The best restaurants serving British food in North West

We had the afternoon tea in celebration of my late mother 90 th birthday, she loved going to the houghwood with my late father. As per usual excellent food and service.

Second visit here and it didn't disappoint! Loved the carrot, celery and apple soup and the egg mayonnaise sandwiches. Such a friendly, cosy cafe.

Superb white fish beautifully cooked and a large portion Perfect chips Curry sauce sharp enough to be interesting without being to savage. We ate on a sunny day when the picnic tables were most welcome.

What an amazing place to take our mum for a birthday afternoon teas. This was our first visit here, but after reading lots of positive reviews we had to give this place a chance. We each compliment the staff and the way they present themselves. Then the little china cups and Saucers and side plates gave the place some quirkiness. Sandwiches were soft and fluffy, I hadn't had bread so soft like this, yummy fillings, lots of flavours. Amazing little selection of cream cakes, choc brownies, fresh scones and clotted cream yum yum! When you order tea you are brought a large teapot for yourself, drink as much as like. Very pleasant and welcoming. Thank you to the lovely staff for the amazing experience today.

So glad we have this local coffee shop! Food 10/10, I had a vegan breakfast, it was a very good sized serving, lovely and hot, you can add on extras if needed. They have a few other vegan options too which is great. The staff are lovely, and the dining area is very clean. Would highly recommend!

Such a wonderful time spent here- the owners are so present and welcoming it just feels like the place to be. The breakfast service is excellent and delicious. We reached quite early and it was just me and my child - they offered to have our suitcases while we loitered in the town centre and enjoyed our suitcase free time. We came back to an upgrade a beautifully relaxing room with balcony and sea view. It was nice to watch the glitter globe- glittering from our room. The room is in itself so perfect - just everything you expect from a hotel room - soft fluffy robes, clean and crisp linen- feathery pillows - every nook and corner of the room makes sure you are relaxing.

Been twice now. First time we came in for a Saturday breakfast and we had 4 perfect poached eggs and I thought 'this suggests they can cook' (you should see mine)... so we booked for a jazz night and had a fantastic Christmas dinner. Everything was truly beautifully cooked. Service is lovely and friendly and it's a really nice environment. Highly recommend Barbetta's.

We just had a lunch which was very reasonably priced but delicious.

Would not recommend. Terrible service, expensive prices and extremely rude staff. Stressful when taking dogs as you are crammed in on bar stool tables in the corner. Stressful environment. Out of a lot of items on the menu. Food nice but nothing to rave about. Looks the part, but unfortunately did not meet expectations. Avoid!

I recently had my 30th birthday at the Ducie Arms and couldn’t have been happier with the venue, experience, and service. Kevin and Yvonne are friendly and accomodating, and all my friends commented on how nice their service was. The pub has a great open beer garden out the front which we all enjoyed in the sunshine, and inside the pub is a cozy atmosphere with lovely furnishings. Great value for a pint too! All in all it was a perfect venue to book for around 30 people, and I look forward to booking events there in the future.

Llegué a la caja, el chef, que era agradable en realidad salió a preguntarme lo que quería y me dijo que había una mesa lista que aprecio. La mujer, por otro lado, ni siquiera me miró, sino que empezó a escribir mi pedido. Cuando me distraje momentáneamente, ella ni siquiera tenía los modales de decir: "Disculpe amor/señor, pero eso son seis libras por favor", en cambio me repitieron "seis libras" tres veces de una manera agresiva y rápida. De todas formas, me senté a esperar el desayuno y seguro que la mujer sale de la cocina con la comida; antes de que recibiera el plato, simplemente se calienta. Por el contrario, ella podría haber dicho cortésmente "Cuidado amor / señor, la comida está bastante caliente", o algo dicho de una manera que demuestra que en realidad quería que me quedara a comer.

Perfect little cafe. All day breakfast is cooked perfectly and incredibly tasty. The orange cheesecake is to die for, so full of flavour. Worth every penny. A must visit
