I recently had my 30th birthday at the Ducie Arms and couldn’t have been happier with the venue, experience, and service. Kevin and Yvonne are friendly and accomodating, and all my friends commented on how nice their service was. The pub has a great open beer garden out the front which we all enjoyed in the sunshine, and inside the pub is a cozy atmosphere with lovely furnishings. Great value for a pint too! All in all it was a perfect venue to book for around 30 people, and I look forward to booking events there in the future.

As part of a university society, we booked the Ducie in December for a raffle event and it was amazing! The staff has been super kind and helpful, giving us the space for displaying the prizes and ensuring a lovely atmosphere throughout the evening! Whether you just want to go for a drink with your friends or you want to organise some fun event, I would 100% recommend the Ducie!

Ideal for The Academy and a pub that's suffered with the new WFH arrangements of many businesses. Called in hoping to for food but it was just so quiet and really not worth their while. Had some drinks and chatted with one of the owners, really nice chap. I fear for all the great British pubs like this one and I wish them all the best for the future.

After a recent nostalgic stroll around the campus it was a bonus to discover that the Ducie was still a tradtional pub serving real ale & cider. Long may it continue! Happy to raise a glass to Yvonne for all her hard work during very difficult times. Looking forward to my next visit in september.

Have visited Ducies for the occasional after work pint for years, always good beer. I noticed a sign that said they opened weekends for private bookings so I booked out the place for my 40th birthday. Kevin and Yvonne were excellent communicating before the event and did a sterling job single handed serving and keeping everyone happy on the night. Since the pandemic their kitchen is closed to no food available but they suggested I could order in some pizzas to soak up the birthday party drinks, also happy to let me play my own playlist via their speaker all night. There’s not as many cask ales on as there used to be pre 2020 but Kevin checked in with me what type of cask I’d like on for the party which was ace. Everyone has a great time, we were lucky with the weather and it was possible to use some of the outdoor tables (which was handy as inside seating is limited). I’d definitely recommend for a private event if you want you very own, classic pub. Also great for an after-work drink in you;re in the university campus area weekday evenings.

My friends and I discovered the Ducie on our search for a local pub and what a find it turned out to be. With a large open outside seating area that would satisfy anybody strictly adhering to social distancing. The service was incredibly friendly where we engaged in lovely conversation throughout each transaction, I can only hope that anybody frequenting the Ducie has the chance to meet the absolutely adorable and incredibly affectionate dogs. The Ducie was such a nice experience the first night, that we found ourselves returning the next evening where we had a similarly delightful experience. We would absolutely recommend the Ducie to anybody in the Manchester area looking for a good pub.

Unsure as to how this pub is so highly rated. You're looking at £4.50 pints of ale, £7 burgers which have come straight out of the freezer. Much better walking over to Krobar or the Manchester students Union, where the food is much nicer, cheaper and there are often deals on. Not to mention a much wider selection of pints to chose from. Edit: the price of an ale is apparently £4 rather than £4.50. however, this means the price of a pint of shipyard must be well over £4 as two pints of ale and a shipyard was almost £14. After leaving the review the owner tried to message me on LinkedIn and facebook which is an extremely perculiar thing to do, and even attempted to insult me for my aparent frequenting of wetherspoons. So watch out all naysayers, because he will find you.

The Ducie Arms is a gem of a pub hidden away between the University and the Science Park - with very few other buildings of its age surviving in this area it is full of character. The pub is run by Kevin & Yvonne who are very friendly owners and ensure a warm welcome. We regularly frequent at lunch time - excellent menu - the Ducie is especially well known for its speciality burgers which regularly change, but the standards such as the chicken burger and lamb & mint burger are equally as good. Other items on the blackboard menu also regularly change - such as the sausages and the fishcakes. There is also the main menu - I especially recommend the steak pudding if you are peckish! The pub is cosy inside in the Winter and the beer garden an excellent sun trap in the summer! After lunching here for many years I finally got round to popping over in the evening for the all-important sampling of the ales. An excellent Boondoggle was one of two options on cask last Friday - very nice indeed. I look forward one day to finally making it into the mystical "snug" that is the roped off front room - a life's ambition!

My colleagues and I often visit The Ducie at lunchtimes, it takes about 10 minutes to walk there but it is a far better option than other more local venues. The food is always good, with a diverse yet satisfying menu... I am particularly fond of their exotic 'guest' burgers. The kangaroo & jalapeno is a particular favourite! An excellent selection of drinks are available, unfortunately we don't often get the opportunity to enjoy them during lunch - very tempting though! The most enjoyable part of visiting is definitely the staff. They are professional and courteous, yet ALWAYS make time to engage in pleasant conversation - it appears they genuinely give a damn about us having a good time whilst there. I look forward to my next trip!

After reading the previous reviews for The Ducie Arms I was slightly sceptical about visiting. Although upon arrival, I didn't get the unwanted atmosphere that some people seem to say they have received. In fact it was quite a pleasant, warm and welcoming pub. Food was impeccable for the price, a good selection of beer was available although the beer prices weren't cheap but the food made up for that. I had the Lamb and Mint burger which really hit the spot. So juicy. So tender. As Arnold Schwarzenegger once said, "I'll be back!"

I can only assume that this pub is used to catering to students, as I would definitely not rate the food as excellent! I ordered the spicy chicken burger, which looked and tasted like a Bird's Eye chicken fillet tossed in a deep fat fryer. It was served plain in a rather squashed brioche bun, with a side of chips (that tasted like supermarket oven chips), and a token side salad. It was cheap and edible, but I've eaten far better, even as a student.

I've visited the Ducie Arms numerous times in the past and have had a thoroughly enjoyable experience each time. The Landlord and Landlady are both very welcoming and you can tell they take pride in the pub. They've always been happy to help and are extremely accommodating whenever I've come in as part of a large (or small!) group. The food and drink (both have always been very nice) are well priced and a lot better value than can be found at a couple of the nearby establishments. If you're visiting the University for an Open Day or Graduation ceremony then the Ducie is ideally located, just behind the Mansfield Copper building and Main Library. I've been in after both of my graduation ceremonies because I know it won't let me down on a special day.

The Ducie is a great pub which I have been going to for ten years now whilst working at a local office. I have never had a bad meal there. Food is exceptionally priced and really good quality, and is home made. Love the home made burgers, they've done some less exotic ones recently, they used to do all sorts...kangaroo, zebra etc but now usually beef, pork or lamb the last times I've been, really love the kangaroo burgers (please bring them back). Had a lamb and mint burger today and that was exceptional quality, really tender meat. I don't get to go as often now as don't work for the same company but still occasionally meet colleagues from my old company and the standard is still always very good, and the owners are still as warm and friendly as ever. Love summer days when you can sit outside with a cold cider. The owners are always helpful and the draught beer selection is always good. It's a really cosy, traditional pub which I would recommend. Card payments are accepted but cost 50p so try to have the cash. The only down-side is that sometimes you can feel forced into sitting at a particular table, but that is a minor issue and as it is small, when it gets packed, it really gets packed, but adds to the atmosphere in my opinion. Very budget-friendly and excellent pub-grub with all the traditional fayre on the menu.

I have been coming to the Ducie for about 30 years. As the locals moved out it is the only remaining real pub around the University. It has had several managers since the days when it was an Irish pub run by Mary. The latest encumbant, Kevin, continues the tradition of the pub and is ensuring that it doesn't close. Security and Safety I would trust Yvonne and Kevin not only with my bag but with my safety, they are amazing.I have never felt more safe in a bar in Manchester than i do at the Ducie. 2. The food- Absolutely homemade and i've never had a better burger, and i know burgers. The chilli, and curry and everything else they offer is amazing food. I visited the Ducie Arms last night with a friend and work colleague after finishing a long day in work. It was a lovely summers evening and we chose to sit in the beer garden, which was very busy. We sat at a table which was empty. Shortly after sitting down the landlord told us that the table was reserved and we would have to move. This was done in a very aggressive manner. We explained to the landlord that the table was empty and did not have any signage on it to say it was reserved. He then became even more aggressive and tried to tip the table up by grabbing hold of one end and raising it. Myself and my work colleague felt threatened and intimidated and decided to leave quickly as we both felt threatened for our safety. We will never return to this establishment and will not recommend to any of our friends and colleagues. I'm considering contacting Manchester licencing department to raise my concerns about this establishment.

Internally this pub appears quite dated but i think it gives the pub some character which is sadly lacking in a lot of pubs nowadays. The pub has a tasteful low gated beer garden which is fairly large with some good wooden bench seating and is a nice place to sit with a drink in the sunshine. I have had the pleasure of visiting this pub on more than one occasion. On the quiet days service is friendly and very good. On the busy times the level of service appears to drop a little. I guess if you are understaffed there can sometimes be a drop in service to a degree. i can recommend the lamb burger and chips which was excellent.

I have been visiting this Pub for years, while working in Manchester. I love the atmosphere and the food is very good (especially the burgers). I would definitely make a trip up from London, just for this pub. The Ducie also has a great outdoor area when the weather is good.

Our university club has just stopped going here due to a change of our session times. It's a huge shame as its a fantastic pub so close to Uni. A friendly landlord with great food, ale and even a great cider.

The Ducie Arms, close to where I work, is an old favourite of mine. The food never disappoints and the service is friendly and efficient - even when the place is packed, food is served quickly (important if you're on a strict hour's lunch break). I'm a creature of habit and tend to order the curry of the day, although the chicken and vegetable curries on the regular menu are equally delicious. If curry isn't your thing, then I would recommend one of the burgers, while the steak pudding is also a joy if you're particularly peckish. This is a traditional public house, with guest ales and a range of bottled and draft lagers and ciders. The decor was looking a bit drab but, over Christmas, the owners have invested in a much-needed makeover and the place looks as great as the food. If you've not been to the Ducie for a while, take a look. You'll be impressed. Couple of tips: The Ducie is a traditional pub, so no children (or dogs); it closes between 2pm and 4pm each day (last food orders 1.30pm); the pub is closed at weekends and on Bank Holidays; and if you're paying by card there is a 50p charge for orders under a certain amount, so if you're in a group, get one person to put it on their card and give them your cash (especially if you're tight like me!) Pubs like this are becoming few and far between, so I'm pleased to see the Ducie going from strength to strength. Great outdoor space too when Spring/Summer arrives.

Totally love this laid back little quaint pub just behind Oxford Road. It's perfect for a few drinks after work, and when it's sunny the outdoor area is so pretty with the bright planters. It has a really rustic friendly atmosphere as most people are professionals from the nearby universities, hospitals and offices. The drinks selection for real ale is very good I am told but I don't drink beer. The snacks and food looks really good too. The staff are so welcoming and they accept card payments. Highly recommend this place xxx
