Hispi in Manchester

Lunchtime for two We treated ourselves to the sirloin sharer for two , which was served medium rare, sliced and served with carrots, potato wedges and gravy As it takes 45 minutes to prepare, we shared Focaccia bread and olives Plus a few soft drinks, this was in total fifty quid each. Bear in mind the usual lunchtime menu is twenty five and the sharer has a fifteen quid extra. I left full and wanting to try more Located in the heart of Didsbury Village in a charming converted building that retains a lot of its original features, set across a few rooms, with a kitchen in the back. I like the calm atmosphere and the very attentive wait staff. The adjacent car park is very conveniently located

Great little restaurant/bistro. We had the autumn bistro menu at lunchtime and it was excellent. Some really nice autumnal flavours and decent portions too. We were going for the three courses for £20 but didn't have room for pud. I'm blaming the truffle fries we had as an extra! We'll be back for pud next time.

I still love Hispi but haven’t been since a disappointing Christmas Day meal last year. Staff absolutely first class. Everything we ate was delicious but portion sizes are down, prices are up and we waited 45 minutes between starter and mains and the restaurant was probably at 40% capacity. Will continue to support as it’s local but probably for lunch or bistro menu offers. Bill was £142 for 2 x 2 main courses, a bottle of white Rioja and a glass of red (including service).

What a shame. The recipes here are great and the concept is super - however to work, the staff need to care. We arrived at 1.15 and yet by 2.30 we still had not received our mains. And our cocktail glasses were still on the table, just by the empty water glasses, on the unwiped table. When the mains did arrive, the cod was overcooked and the sauces were unbalanced. Though luckily not all was lost. The serving staff did have plenty of time for a good chat and catch up their socials as they hung out in the next room, oblivious to their frustrated guests. We didn't even stay for pudding.

Great atmosphere, food, service and ambience, very lovely place, quiet and nice surroundings with nice people. Thank You for the desert gift for my partner and me, anniversary it was quite lovely from you. Much appreciated and Sea You again.

What a fab idea to go to Hispi today for my fella’s birthday. Awesome wines, superb alcohol free Aperol as designated driver. Warm welcome, staff friendly and great service, attentive, perfect timings for ordering, food arriving, waiting for drinks etc. Then the food……..this was THE BEST meal we have had in a really long time. We both had different starters, mains, desserts, sides and in honesty we can’t wait to get back and work our way through the menu. I personally think the cost for the quality and the level of flavour and choice is fantastic. Can’t wait to try Sunday lunch and then the other meals on the Autumn menu Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday……… Thank you all was so good and we loved it. We’ve missed eating in a place that clearly cares so much about what they do! As my other half would say, Quality! In his beautiful Manc accent !

My reviews tend to follow trips away from home, probably because it is when on holiday, I rely on TripAdvisor most. I have a tendency to forget to write a short note when we dine locally, so I thought I would make amends. We have eaten at Hispi several times when we have enjoyed an excellent meal. On Friday we went to one of their themed Wine Nights. On this occasion the menu and wine selection were French. Cuisine and service were first class and we look forward to going again before too long.

My partner and I decided to treat my mum to a birthday lunch at Hispi. We opted for the 2 course fixed price lunch menu ( starter and main) . Staff were friendly and courteous, and checked if we had any allergies etc. Menu is limited , which I expect on a set menu, but i feel there were enough options presented. We had a different starter each crab cake, bacon belly and black pudding and then all had the featherblade beef. The food was very good , chips were a standout. Its only 4 star for me because of Value as with 2 glasses of wine and a soft drink it came to over 110 pounds which for portion size seems a bit expensive although it was as I said very good quality food, and the service and venue were both good

The defining moment of the dinner was having ordered a £65 bottle of their New Zealand Pinot Noir, for it to be served without any offer to taste it and then having it sloshed into the glass if it was cheap plonk. With regard to prices, two of us shared the 19oz sirloin which attracts a £9 supplement pp to the £43 two course menu. Whilst the steak was perfectly cooked, it was hardly a generous portion for two people, but the accompanying chips were outstandingly good. Our son lives in Didsbury and we have wanted to try Hispi for some time. However, like other TripAdvisor reviews of this restaurant we feel the prices are way too high given its lack of sophistication, overall standards and presentation. I doubt another visit is on the cards, albeit very local for our son.

Good but not amazing food. I wouldn't say it was good value for money; £43 £or 2 courses without sides is a bit steep. Chips were £5 and there were 7 , = 3.5 chips each! Good wine selection though and nice atmosphere.

Rather expensive, severe portion control. I question quality control in the kitchen. Staff dealt with food issues. 125ml of wine £11 ?

We had our wedding meal here and the team were amazing. As always the food and wine was delicious, service was brilliant and everyone had a fantastic evening.

The food was absolutely delicious! The Steak with Truffle and Parmesan chips for two was simply heavenly! The service was very attentive, and the high-quality ingredients used made it a reasonably priced meal that was truly memorable. I will definitely be returning again!

It’s okay, little over priced and the service wasn’t brilliant. I thought it was average with an extraordinary price tag. Service charge of around 20% added automatically.

My girlfriend is coeliac and vegan; so not the easiest to cater for. However Clare modified the menu to show everything that was suitable or that could be adapted to make up a lovely gluten free vegan breakfast; including gluten free vegan bread. They also have gluten free oat milk. I had a full English which was incredible; if the thin white bread was swapped out for some nice thick cut soardough bread it would have been a 11/10. Clare was also lovely and attentive; really couldn’t fault her! The bill came to 30 odd quid which I think was reasonable for two breakfasts and two drinks. Thank you so much Clare and team

Can't believe the quality for the price - really delicious food, beautifully presented, friendly and attentive service. Highly recommend!

Nice place and good service but the food was really left wanting. First course crispy carrot thing was nondescript uncrispy and came with a very odd tasting sauce. Mains of hake with mandolin cut courgettes was almost without flavour and bream with aubergine didn't hit the spot. Side order of parmesan chips were very good. Disappointed but try for yourself!

Wanted to visit for a long time after having visited sticky walnut in Chester. Lovely warm greeting and excellent waiting staff. Lovely selection of foods and was all lovely. Nice wine selection and cocktail options.

A really good Sunday lunch at Hispi. The sticky belly bacon starter and fillet of hake main were top notch. All washed down with picpoul de pinet. And a large creme brulee for dessert. Service first rate too.

Wow , what an amazing restaurant, had two wonderful experiences here in the same week on a holiday from Australia recently , took an old friend for lunch and then the friends that hosted me took the family for diner - I’m a vegetarian and the choices were spectacular along with superb wine pairings - the service was fantastic and the whole experiences were outstanding - highly recommended ! Sunday lunch here is superb a little on the pricier side but that said i do not mind paying good money for good food 10/10 from me service is good too

From the moment of stepping into Hispi, we felt like we were in a 5 star Bistro. From the immediate warm welcome, to the tasteful decor. The food was excellent and you'll probably not come close to finding flavours like these in the south of manchester. The service was outstanding and the manager really is an asset to this place, impeccable hospitality and impressive time management skills, getting round to a fairly full room of people and making all in there feel like royals. I would definitely eat here again and would without a doubt recommend to friends and family. A big thank you to Hispi from us.

We had not been back to Hispi for some time! No particular reason just never gotten round to booking. Hispi is one of the very few establishments that I would recommend to people because of its consistency. The service and food was yet again extremely good as we chose from the Sunday menu. Mrs L went for the roast beef myself and Mr Sankey upped the ante somewhat and went for the sirloin sharing platter which is highly recommend. Yorkshire are the best in the business, and the accompanying veg (greens and carrot n swede) not to mention the roasts spuds all first class! The red wine gravy is the finishing touch and all plates were literally clean as a whistle. Ginge opted for a hake dish which she said was sublime. Great food great service and I’d still be recommending this place.

Breakfast was really special. I had a fried potatoes with bacon jam which is kind of like a bacon ragu, absolutely delicious and a generous portion. Lovely Bloody Mary too, lovely staff. Gorgeous light in and great seating too. X

I’ve eaten at Hispi many times now and it’s one of the best restaurants in Didsbury. They cater very well for coeliacs and even have a dedicated gluten free menu. The food is delicious, the staff are lovely and the general vibe of the place is relaxing and not at all stuffy. The food is well priced for the quality and the honeycomb desert is an absolute must! They update their menus fairly regularly so there’s always variation and it keeps things interesting. Definitely check this place out!

Great vegetarian foods, and the creme brulee dessert was probably the best I've ever had!

lovely bistro! we had torched garlic and lemon sea bream, fillet of hake, truffle and parmesan chips (delish) & vanilla creme brulee.

We went to the Friday wine night, a set menu with matched glasses of wine. We thought the food was excellent and just the right amount. We liked the way the dishes flowed, there was a pea theme which really worked. The wines were excellent and the matching worked. I’d say the price was pitched right for what we experienced. Well done Hispi.

The food and the atmosphere was great, and the staff were really welcoming. I ordered the featherblade of beef and my partner ordered the sea bass. I knew the prices (£43 for two courses) beforehand but left feeling like it was not worth the money at all. Don't get me wrong, the food was very nice, just perhaps worth £25-£30 rather than £43

We attended this restaurant for the lunch menu special which is a really good deal. It’s £15 for two courses and £20 for three courses. Would it be an early lunch time we arrived? The restaurant was not very busy. The lady who was serving us was absolutely lovely though very friendly and very attentive. It’s probably not the best place to go if you are vegetarian as there is only one option for the mains. There is the option of the more expensive menu which we were not inclined to pay for lunchtime treat. Quality of the food was incredible. It was all very fresh locally. I would happily recommend this restaurant to anybody else.

I was recommended by people regarding this establishment and their food and choice in menu. I can sadly say one of the most disappointing experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. The pricing is made so unclear and when asked to clarify was fobbed off by the manager. Not to mention the food I had - literally got my stomach in bits over the weekend. Overpriced and unsatisfying food.. would not recommend at all.

Overpriced. One thin sliver roast beef. Saturated with. gravy. 36 sterling for 2 course which included the above and coconut ice cream with a chocolate pour in a small glass - again disappointing.

Had the steak for 2. It was dry aged. Feel like it was a bit tough. But it had good flavour. I didn't pay for it so don't know howbm8ch it cost. Then had sticky toffee pudding. I absolutely love sticky toffee putting. This one was really good. Though felt it was really sweet. Great staff. The olives were outstanding. Perhaps the best I have tasted

Had a very nice lunch today at Hispi. Attentive service, hearty bistro dishes with lots of flavour and plenty of options. Very good value too, and a notably broad selection of drinks. Thankyou will be back.

Best Sunday Roast Menu in Didsbury!

Smashing Sunday lunch during a busy service. Claire, the manager, was a star.

Really good neighbourhood bistro. Perfect place to take 4-5 friends for a nice meal. Everything tasted great and the staff were very friendly. I'd expect a little bit more creativity for the price though.

6 of us had Sunday Lunch. We all loved all 3 of our courses - amazing presentation and flavours. Great service and atmosphere (and thanks for being so accommodating of our numbers and time changing). My visiting friends were very, very impressed.

Great value off-peak lunch/dinner menus for £15-£20 and lovely staff. If we lived here we would be back every month to try the different menus 😋

Very good restaurant chain - serving a range of well prepared and presented food. Great staff and service good selection of wine. Slow cooked beef a delight and so was the cod. Unfortunately the side dish of broccoli was very poor - over cooked and cold. This was disappointing. Deserts were great - mint chocolate and the rhubarb.

This place exceeded all expectations! The food was exquisitely fancy, especially for the special Valentine's Day dinner. What impressed me most was their exceptional accommodation of my dietary needs, because I'm on a low salt diet, and they adjusted their dishes accordingly without compromising on taste or presentation. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience. Also, the manager, Clare I think her name is, kindness and welcoming demeanor made our experience great. She's a key reason why we keep returning! (and the food as well of course)

Very tasty three course dinner but a bit over-priced / over-hyped. Trout starter so thin, the sauces etc over-powered the taste of the fish. Tasty venison but tiny portion.

Exceptional food and extremely welcoming from the moment we entered we were greeted with a huge smile and happy welcome which continued throughout, the food was excellent every course didn’t disappoint, it was delicious we will definitely return when back in didsbury, this is an absolute must try if you’re looking for exceptional food relaxed atmosphere with a warm feel

This is one of the best restaurants in didsbury and the staff are very good too. We've eaten here a few times and never had a bad meal, it's always been great.

Venue was in good location, directly across the road from Didsbury Village tram station. Makes access to Didsbury far easier than ever before, especially from South Manchester & Altrincham. Unfortunately there are only bottled beers which was slightly disappointing but has an extensive wine list chosen for best pairings for the meals on offer. Has an extensive menu with a choice of meat, fish & vegetarian which meets everyone's preferences but does not provide an extensive choice of meat, again acceptable for the small restaurant. There were four of us and we all chose the two course Sunday meal and ended up all having the three courses for £32 each, an extra £4.50 for the dessert or cheeses. Very friendly waiting staff who all knew the menu well enough to chat freely with us throughout the experience, this always gives a good impression to the diners.

My first time here tonight but my partner has been before. We went initially for the cheaper fixed price menu but ended up going for the higher priced one which was still amazing value for money! For starters the service was excellent. Attentive but still super relaxed we felt so comfortable with the ladies that served us and honestly service was impeccable. The food was perfect! We had he pork cheek and Jerusalem artichoke Welsh rarebit to start. Both were delicious and perfectly balanced. We had a bottle of Montepulciano with it and it was lovely. I had the confit duck leg (on the recommendation of one of the lovely ladies who served us) which was beautifully cooked and well paired with the parsnip puree. My partner had the venison with celeriac puree which was also banging!!! We were too full to order dessert but will definitely go again as the whole dining experience was excellent. Please go here it’s ace!!!!

Had a really good Sunday roast, beer carved a little on the thin side but nice and pink, amazing fluffy Yorkshire pud and good roasties. Service could be a little sharper, e.g. plates sat finished for a long time and saw one member of the serving staff chewing but otherwise nice place and pleasant atmosphere so will be back to try the rest of the menu.

Been here a few times and always good thought we’d try the January special 2 courses £28 and 3 £35 to celebrate my husbands birthday. Expected the portions etc to be the same as the normal menu but felt they were smaller to allow for the price reduction. I had the cod main and it was very bland and the mashed potato had disappeared amongst all the sauce. The sticky toffee pudding was good though. None of the usuals special touches either ie the complimentary garlic focaccia to start or birthday fudge. So overall disappointing given it’s still an expensive meal with drinks. My husband was still hungry when we came home and ended up having a sandwich later.

A group of us (5) went here for a post Xmas work celebration. The place has potential. The prices are good, the service was excellent and the ambience is good. However, the food was not great. Very, very small portion sizes and every dish served was tepid at best. The only thing served at a decent temperature was my sticky toffee pudding.

Luckily able to get a table as a walk in after a sore of the moment decision to dine at Hispi. After many visits the foods has never failed, pig cheek to start was delicious, had the halibut for the main which was cooked perfectly and the broth it came with just fit perfectly. I am not a big mushroom fan, but always happy.to push my boundaries here as I know the ingredients are good and it will be cooked perfectly. No dessert this time, if the custard tart was on then I would have been all over that. But the Christmas over indulgence meant we were sensible and skipped it this time.

A return visit to one of Didsbury’s best restaurants. We all enjoyed a “Sunday” roast followed by stick toffee pudding. The food was excellent and especially the gravy jus- Devine. Our lovely server (student zoologist) was delightful, friendly, charming and engaging. All in all a lovely way to spend the first day of 2024 Happy to recommend

This place has a huge attention to detail, taste and service when it comes to food and drinks. The mix of flavours is great. Choices are very wide for veg and non-veg options. I highly recommend this place!

Another great meal at Hispi. We eat there regularly when we’re biding our son woks at University. It’s always consistently good. One of the best Sunday lunches out there.

Tried to get a table with my son. Lovely place from the outset, but we were treated rather disrespectful by the presumably supervisor, a young brown haired girl, as she was greeting me, saying, "What's up?" Even the tone was so disrespectful not mentioning the fact of the age difference between the two of us. The waitress was warmly welcoming us, even when I noticed that the place closed for service. She was doing the right thing, which I can't say the same about the "supervisor" My suggestion is to train your people in charge, not to be arrogant with potential customers. Wanted to try the place for a long time, but this incident absolutely changed my mind.

Excellent lunch for our French group today. Represents real value for money. Yes, the portions on the Bistro menu are smaller but were totally delicious and were completely appropriate for a lunch. Thank you for another great meal, Hispi.

Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. I had the turkey which I have to say was amazing. Really enjoyed. My friends had the fish which they did feedback was a bit bland but everything else they enjoyed.

Nice place good vibes great food lost a star because I was hungry and the food was beautiful but I could have done with slightly bigger portions TBF they were good but portions but not quite enough for me today. Service was good, the atmosphere was great for a family catch up.

Had an incredible meal here- everything was fantastic. We had one of the special cocktails to start which was lovely and then ate from the bistro menu which was brilliant food and great value too. The soup was one of the best soups I’ve ever had and the pork with the butter beans was beautiful. Will definitely be back to try the other menu

This was a Christmas lunch with a group of friends. We thought the set menu for £47 was a bit pricey, but decided to treat ourselves. The food was delicious, the staff attentive, but the mark up on alcohol is outrageous. £38 for a bottle of Prosecco! I have never, ever paid so much for a meal out. I have decided that the extra cost is really not worth it and will not be returning.

A very pleasant experience at this lovely restaurant and the food was superb. The lady who welcomed us into the restaurant was very welcoming and very knowledgeable about the menu. Everyone’s meal was first class from starters to the main course and the desserts were a delight with enough time taken in between courses to make it really enjoyable. We also had with us our very young grandson and the were also very accommodating with him and provided a high chair. We will definitely be going back to this restaurant the next time we visit our son so keep up the good work.

As always, Hispi offers a well constructed set menu, priced at £48 for three courses. That’s quite a bit more than you’d pay at a couple of other “Modern British” bistro type places in South Manchester that we also go to. Quite a bit more even than the “city centre prices” of a similar sort of place in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. But, as always, there’s lots we’d be happy to eat but I do start to question whether the extra cost is really worth it A long braised pig cheek was delicious and fell apart at the touch of the fork. There’s a little apple puree and a dressing incorporating capers and a crunch from hazelnuts. The other starter saw a piece of toasted brioche topped with roasted Jerusalem artichoke, covered in Welsh rarebit. Alongside, a spoonful of chutney – fruitiness from pear with a little background zing from horseradish. We both went with the same very seasonal main course – Hispi’s take on a traditional Christmas lunch. So, there’s slices of turkey, of course, and lovely crisp roast potatoes. A “hockey puck” of pork, apricot and hazelnut stuffing may have been the tastiest thing on the plate, with a topping of cranberry relish. Parsnip puree was a bit wet and a bit of roasted parsnip would have been better but shredded sprouts mixed with bacon were really nice (and I say that as someone not usually keen on sprouts). A red wine sauce set it all off. We didn’t fancy a dessert but espresso was pretty decent.

Fabulous roast, delicious cauliflower cheese, dessert, oh my!!! Baked yoghurt with apple compote, what a beautiful and unusual combination and amazing way to finish a super meal! Thank you to All (although our waitress struggled a bit, kept forgetting things, misordered items, it may have been her 1st or 2nd shift, so we’ll let her off!!)

It had been far too long since my last visit here. When I was asked where I wanted to eat on my birthday I had no hesitation in requesting Hispi! My previous memories had all been superb, tasty food, great service, good atmosphere and excellent value. I’m happy to report nothing has changed and it was as good as ever, a rarity these days as so many restaurants start great only to go down hill fast, fade and fold. Hispi is without doubt doing things in the right way and thriving. Whilst I’ve eaten here a la carte my favourite is the Sunday roast. Choices were sumptuous pork, beef, a vegetarian option and if you are celebrating as we were a 15 day old sirloin of beef for two people and boy did this hit the spot. Served with fabulous roast potatoes, kale, carrot, a gigantic home made Yorkshire pudding & finished with a first rate gravy. Granted there was a supplement for the sirloin but it was well worth it. A terrific sticky toffee topped off a splendid meal and I can highly recommend the crunchie ice cream. Staff were very attentive and looked after our very need I can highly recommend Hispi, it’s stood the test of time because it consistently delivers.

The vibe was lovely and desserts very good especially the crème brûlée. The bass main was well cooked but pretty bland. I could not get any of the flavours mentioned on the menu. We ordered two glasses of the Riesling which was very sweet. When we asked the waitress about this to enquire if it was the right one, she very condescendingly told us Riesling is always sweet. Which I know for a fact is false, especially a Riesling from Alsace. She then told us she could help us choose the next one, again which came across pretty condescending. We dropped the issue pretty quickly as it was clear we were being labelled as stupid. It may be worth asking to see the bottle or trying the wine before getting a full glass as to me it tasted and looked like a Semillon not a Riesling! We didn’t feel welcome back to be honest and I probably wouldn’t go back

Each course was an absolute delight and perfectly well matched with an excellent choice of wines by your sommelier. The service was excellent and each course on the menu was described and explained to us by your pleasant front of house team. A delightful experience that we hope to repeat in the very near future. Had dinner with friends last night, and everything was delicious. I particularly recommend the dates wrapped in smoky bacon and the honeycomb ice cream. I ordered from the excellent value bistro menu and my friends from the main menu. Everything was tasty and freshly made,...

The best place to eat in Didsbury with delicious food, great wine and the most attentive lovely staff serving you and going the extra mile

Haven't been in a long time. We went for our anniversary. Would say the starters were on the small side and for their prices, lacked flavour. We had the lamb breast and crab cakes. The mains were delicious. We had the duck and chicken schnitzel....

Fabulous Sunday lunch not cheap but definitely good quality and worth the extra.

We recently had lunch as a large group at Hispi following our wedding ceremony. We couldn't have asked for a better experience for such a special occasion. The staff went above and beyond, with the perfect balance between attentiveness and giving us privacy to celebrate. We had a separate space off the main restaurant which was ideal for our group and celebrations. The food was delicious, everyone enjoyed their meal and all dietary requirements were catered for with no trouble. We've been to Hispi a few times over the years and couldn't recommend them more highly.

Had a lovely afternoon celebrating 2 birthdays. The stuffed belly pork was probably the best I have ever had! Everything was delicious and the staff were wonderful. Thanks so much! Have been a few times, never disappoint!.👏👏👏

We went here for our anniversary and we did have a lovely time. The service and atmosphere was was lovely - the staff were extremely kind and helpful. However we were a bit disappointed by the food. It had a lot of potential - the dishes all sounded amazing and were presented well but they lacked a bit of flavour.

The waiter was really nice and told us about updates to the menu. Service was quick and the food was really fresh and good value. We literally had the restaurant to ourselves on a Tuesday lunch time.

Really nice food. Service was ok but should have been better. I also asked for a glass of champagne upon arrival and they couldn't supply me with a champagne glass which I thought was a little strange.

My first visit was excellent, and the service and food were very good, a good atmosphere helped the evening go very well.

Went here recently for my birthday. The food was amazing ,we especially loved the parmesan and truffle fries . Staff were lovely and service was great . Definitely visiting again soon

We visited from Montreal and were delighted with our meal. Great selection, fantastic vegetarian options, lovely steak with peppercorn sauce, delicious side of roasted carrots, finished up with a great selection of British cheese. Fantastic service. We will definitely come back

A very nice place to have a good food. We were sitting at a big table and it feelt like were are in a living room of a nice uk house with view to the kitchen. The food is good and the wine was fine. The service was great. We will come back as soon as we are again in greater Manchester. It was a very nice evening.
