The best chip shop around - and I don't say that lightly. The queues on a Friday tell you all you need to know. There is a small garden area so you can it the food at it's freshest (if we ever get a sunmer)

How on earth can they charge £5.00 for a fish that was hard batter not nice is beyond me. ..it's highly over rated ...it's the only one in the village and is busy but that's because it's a convenience. ..myself and my neighbours will not be going again ...

Possibly the best fish and chips in the UK... We come here pretty once a week and the fish and chips are consistently superb. We always look out for a highly rated chippy when we away on holiday but they very rarely come up to the standard of Westhead.

Perfectly cooked fish and chips. Batter not to thick nicely coated and the fish is fresh and melts in your mouth. Chips are really tasty and cooked properly. We had peas they are so nice i could eat pots of them on their own. Never fails to disappoint us . Best chppy around .Been going for 11 years and long may they continue to provide brilliant fish and chips.

Best fish and chips in the North west

We've been coming here for years but sad to say that we've noticed a decline over the last few visits. The fish, although fresh, is getting smaller and smaller. However, tonight was the first time we've ever had less than perfect batter, that horrible undercooked layer of mush between the fish and the batter. There was also another first.......they had run out of mushy peas!!! on a Saturday night with more than an hour until closing? Never thought we'd say it, but there are now better fish and chips to be had in the area.

Great biker stop. Picnic tables to the side and Tea/Coffee. Cash only.

Fair food, fair price, lovely people

I’ve been going to this Westhead Fish and Chips since I moved here 6 years ago and it never fails to be absolutely amazing! I just had some last week and it was just a great! Fantastic and I definitely recommend it!

Without doubt, best chips around. The fish is fresh and not heavily battered. We have bought food from this establishment, and long may it reign.

Way too over priced for what it is the curry sauce is watery and in a tiny pot

Call regularly when going through Croston on our way to Southport. Always good food. Short opening at lunch time. 11.30 to 13.15. Worth a visit.

I have visited this chippy every week for 30 years and i am currently fed up n looking for an alternative. The quality has nosedived. Stale fish chips nt fully cooked

having moved from the midlands, I have yet to find a chipshop, that provides good quality food and variety of food. I have tried all within my new area, and am seriously disappointed. Am plagued with under done greasy chips, fish that is under done. Peas , gravy and curry sauces are supplied in ridiculously small portions.

THE best chippy in the area with Ray and Shirley always welcoming!! Chips and fish are good portions and service is always spot on. Well priced and very clean too. We take all our friends there and can't get enough.

Excellent as always. I grew up in Croston, Fish and Chips was the best treat ever, and Westhead Fish and Chips were the best. (I'll not Mention Hitchens! but those who know will remember Eddie. And the ironic sign "Enjoy the rest as you eat the best") Joe Duffell was the proprietor and his standards were excellent. My Mother lived in Croston until her sad passing in March 2020, and whenever I'd visit a trip (or two) to the chippy was inevitable. I'm glad to say even under new ownership it's still very, very good.

Not been for ages. And new owners. But still good standard of fish and chips. Would recommend as a good friday night supper

Having lived as a youth and older in a “chippy” in Preston, I do have a professional experience on what should be on offer. This excellent chippy came u to standard on all counts. Quantity, quality, service with a smile. A little pricier than normal but a good full menu. Opening times a little odd T.W.T.F. LUNCH AND DINNER. Overall nothing really to pick on, a good quality product if just a tad more expensive than other local places.

We went to Westheads chippy tonight for tea he got battered sausage n chips , I got fish n chips ,my fish was burnt and was inedible totally disappointed as we go there quite a lot.

These chips are well good I would recommend the steak pie and chips as it is well good. The gravy is also the best in Britain

You can tell the quality of a chippy by the length of the tea-time queue, although the queue moves very quickly due to the way orders are processed. . The food? don't ask. It is PERFECT

Great Fish & Chips, staff are brilliant.

Alway queued out of the door which guarantees freshly cooked fish and chips.

Food not bad but over priced. They also charge for every little thing like a plastic fork or sachet of ketchup. Most chippys these days don't charge for plastic forks and if they sell burgers etc they don't charge for ketchup either. I think this place would charge you for the salt and vinegar if they could. I am also disappointed they don't have pies already hot in the range they are only heated up to order presumably by throwing them in the microwave which causes them to be all soggy and of course you can always buy these Holland's pies in ASDA Tesco etc often on offer at 50p and put them in your own microwave so why pay three or more times the price. I presume the problem here is the owners are so tight or money grabbers that they can't bare to have waste a pie or two when they shut up for the night. Also I have never seen a chip shop range to have frosted glass in it. Maybe if they had the frosted glass changed to clear then they could have the pies displayed along with sausages chicken fish scallops chop suey rolls etc etc and they might sell a bit more. I often go in a chippy and look in the range and will impulse buy or even buy more than I really should. Like one day I might just fancy chips but end up buying sausage chips and gravy or I might want fish chips peas but will have a pie to eat while waiting for the fish to be cooked and who knows maybe a chop suey roll to eat on the way home. I think this place is a rip off but not saying I wouldn't go there again but if another chippy opened locally I would probably go there instead as surely they would be a more traditional chippy and wouldn't rip their customers off

Good quality, just a bit pricey. If you are going to order any chicken stuff ask for it as soon as you go in the door, even if there is a queue.

5 star fish and chips as always ray and Shirley have maintained the high standards from chippy Joe and his wife.....this place is part of the fixtures of croston. 👍

In my opinion the best Fish and Chips in the area. Consistantly high standard everytime. Staff are friendly and extremely hardworking.

Have visited the Westhead many times over the years. Fish and Chip supper consistently excellent with beautifully light batter and always non-greasy. Have rarely found better around the UK.

Good chips, but often large queues.

I visit weekly for great traditional fish and chips. Always fresh, excellent haddock. They do good steak pudding, pies etc. All very nicely prepared. Can genuinely recommend. Not the cheapest but I think the best. I do a 15 mile round trip to go there from Chorley each week. We don't have a chippy as good.

Always excellent freshly cooked Fish and Chips just occasional customers, if we are passing through Croston on the way home, it is always a case of one of us saying "lets get Fish & Chips instead of cooking at home" aand we are never disappointed.

The fish and chips are excellent cooked fresh so you may have to wait a short time to get them (but well worth the wait) very friendly staff, the food is very well packed for travelling home.
