Worst food I have had in a long time. I don’t even know what we ate but it certainly wasn’t fresh.

This cafe is in a lovely location, it’s a cute building and has convenient parking but sadly that’s where the positives end. This place used to be run by people who come across proud of their cafe and the food that they served. fresh hand cut chips, home made pies, salads, home made daily specials and all the usual stuff like a hot breakfast, even a vegetarian breakfast. All done right, to the standard you expect. I used to go to this place with my partner once a week and we loved it. The cheese and onion pie with chips and gravy was up there with the best. the workers were happy and very competent at running a busy cafe that served up a variety of fresh food. Anyway this last time that we went, we couldn’t believe the change in the place, No chips, no salad available, when we asked for a salad we were told ‘we only have tomatoes and onion,. He won’t let us get lettuce incase we don’t sell it and it goes off’. This ‘He’ must be the owner, and i’m pretty sure it’s a different owner than the one who owned it 3-4 years ago. here are a few things about my most recent experience: the Place is cold the menu is tiny they don’t do chips the jacket potatoe and beans is microwaved to order, potato not cooked through and some cheap tasteless beans on top. no butter in the potatoe either. I assume ‘He’ won’t allow it Cheese pie isn’t the same as it used to be and it’s microwaved to order. i believe the insides have been reformulated so that it’s cheaper to make. no gravy any more. I assume He won’t allow gravy either it’s an absolute joke the place was freezing. i assume because there isn’t an oven or a hob in use at all ever. the coffee in all honesty has always been rubbish and it still is, boiling hot and barely any taste. but we didn’t go there for coffee so we didn’t care. the food was bang on every time The salt and petter shakers had 3 holes on the top, 2 of them were sellotaped over, i assume to save money as it wouldn’t come out as fast. there was a sign telling customers to only take one serviette per customer. can you believe it. Pay 6.50 for a microwaved potato that’s still hard and lumpy with no butter and some cheap beans, and ‘He’ is trying to stop me from getting too much salt and pepper and telling me i can only have one napkin. unbelievable! the number of staff was less than before, the place felt like a business on the edge of closing down, maybe this penny pinching miser of an owner is raking it in through his cost cutting measures and increased prices that he charges for rubbish food and drink. but how this model gets any repeat business at all is beyond me. so a message to whoever ‘He’ is. This place used to be fantastic, and now it’s a scam. There is no sense of pride and as a customer you don’t go there feeling like your going to get something nice for dinner, you feel like your just going there to line the owners pockets. rubbish!

We had an excellent lunch having walked from NT Quarry Bank (only 15 minutes). We both ordered the soup of the day; cauliflower, chickpea and ginger soup. We had a little chuckle with the lady about '2 soups' (a Julie Walters/ Victoria Wood sketch). It was delicious with just enough 'kick' to it and served with crusty chunky seeded bread 😋. Nice crafty items for sale in the little village shop. Excellent community cafe, highly recommend.

We have literally just left. We try to support independent Liverpool businesses and attempted to try Calisa today. 3 tables were in use, so there may have been 4 empty. The man behind the counter looked at us and put his hands on his face as though being presented with a conundrum. He very hesitantly announced that he would have to put 2 tables together, as though it was an extreme difficulty, rather than a daily occurrence for a cafe. Then he said how he wouldn’t be able to clear the tables until he had completed a drinks order. We said this was fine and went to sit down but he asked us to sit outside. He finished the drinks order and again walked over to the tables (one empty one clean) with a puzzled expression and his hands on his face, similar to Munch’s ‘The Scream’. My sister then popped her head in as he said ‘it is just cake and coffee you want isn’t it? The kitchens closed’. It was what we wanted, but we took the hint and said we would leave, he said “yes” as he had obviously achieved his aim. Either this is a “local place for local people’ or that is the worst welcome I have ever had.

Ordered a latte, I was watching the extraction time of the single shot, it was running far too long & then the staff member pressed it again. This wasn't barista quality. I couldn't even taste the coffee.

The food was very bland and over-priced, some of the staff were good, however they treated some of their staff pretty badly.
