Food is freshly cooked and you are made aware if there will be a bit of a wait which is fair enough. There are plenty of places that leave you waiting longer without any warning. We were told it would be 15 minutes for 2 veggie breakfasts and served our coffees but I don’t even think it was this long, even though it was a very busy time. Clearly lots of regulars who come here regularly and the coffee was top notch. Any limitations are due to the size of the business but this also has positives as well. Menu not the biggest but you should be able to find something you like. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Food is very well presented.

I’m a regular visitor to this friendly local cafe and judge it to have the finest breakfast in Poulton. At lunchtime Adam produces a delicious home made soup which are always divine. Visitors will see the same locals in day in, day out and there’s good reason for that….

Came here for lunch and left after a warm coffee. The owner who is easily identifiable looked rather unhappy and didn't speak with anyone. The young girls were running around. No menus... We were told to read the walls which was awkward as it was busy. The table hadn't been cleaned and it smelt like fried food in the whole area. It really needs to step up to other places to eat in poulton as it seems to be a haunt for the blue rinse and a pot of tea brigade. Needs an overhaul as it used to be so lovely and friendly here. Off to cube we went 👌

Re the previous post about dogs I am not a dog lover either but unfortunately it seems to be the norm. You did omit to say that dogs were not allowed in the formal seating area at the back of the cafe where the food etc is prepared. They are only allowed in the carpeted area at the front. As for the chairs, i can assure you that they are all wiped down every night, they are meant to look old and battered ((not dirty). I work there from time to time!

The food was very nice and it was obvious that the ingredients were of a good quality. Not really keen on cafes that welcome dogs !! for hygiene reasons and nearly tripped over one large slobbering dog. Not sure who would be libel if I had sustained an injury ? Also a problem with cleanliness of the seating , existing coverings very stained and unsightly. So based on the above reasons would not return.

I have never been here before but my sister kept telling me how good it was and so I decided to have lunch here yesterday with my friend. It was very busy which is always a good sign and was lovely and warm which was very welcoming on a very cold day! We ordered from the menu around the walls and did have to wait a while but that was okay as it was all being freshly cooked. When they came, both our lunches were delicious and were a very reasonable price. We were even given a sample of the soup to try. I will definitely return!

I was made to feel extraordinarily unwelcome when I arrived at 2.30 pm on a Saturday afternoon. The teenagers who were hanging around the kitchen area looked at me as if I had come from Mars. No welcome but a stark warning that they were no longer serving food. I think they were hoping that would be the end of it, but I had the temerity to ask for coffee. Should have just walked out but was given my coffee and then drank it as a waitress began to sweep the floor around the neighbouring table. I think they would rather I had not entered the building at all as it interrupted them not serving food and getting ready to repel all comers. Why not just put CLOSED on the door? The next door café was very lively…… which says it all .

I’m unsure about the concept of the menu being on the walls. Lovely to have the flexibility to adapt the menu I suppose. But yes it’s tricky to see when people are blocking it. It’d be nice to have an idea what’s available from outside also. I had a lovely avocado on ciabatta which they added bacon for me. Oat milk cappuccino was also good. I chatted with the member of staff when I paid. I appreciate that no the staff weren’t spending lots of time chatting but everyone was pleasant and the food came out quickly. It also felt somewhere I could come alone and still feel welcome. I’ll be back!

Not been here for a few years but decided to pop in today. It appeared busy but there were a couple of free tables. I initially looked for a menu but then realised that the menu was written on the walls. I got out of my chair to read the menu but struggled as I couldn't see due to people sitting in front. After deciding what I was ordering I tried to get the attention of a waitress but was ignored. This happened a few times despite appearing over staffed and at least 3 members of the staff just stood by the coffee machine chatting. When I was finally served ( half an hour later). I was then brought a different drink to what I ordered. When I complained about this I was huffed at before it was replaced. I then waited another 45 minutes for my toasted teacake. If this wasn't enough when I went to pay I wasn't asked if everything had been alright and I was told to use the contact less on the machine without even being told how much it was. When I asked about this the older woman just demanded that I use the contact less. It was a horrendous experience from start to finish and I won't be going back.

This place has 0 customer service skills. The owner is the single rudest person I have ever met, her poor manners are clearly rubbing off on the young staff too. We sat for ages before being offered a drink, to the point we were unsure if there was no table service. I could see a few others tables thought the same. There are no menus and when I asked for one she replied “it’s on the walls”, which you can barely see from customer sitting, and asked for sugar to which she just pointed to the table. I asked what was in the breakfast to which she huffed, rubbed her face and I kid you not replied “the usual things” . It is truly mind blowing she has any business at all. I cannot get my head around it. There were some elderly people alone who would have probably appreciate some basic conversation while they ordered, it doesn’t cost much. But there is just such a lack of any politeness here it’s cringey to watch. When I asked for the bill they just pointed to the till where you have to stand and wait for someone to come and take payment, while the staff stand around talking . The food was actually ok but the lack of any basic customer service is enough to put you off. I would rather starve than endure this shocking bad mannered place again. I actually would never write a bad review, but this place we cannot stop talking about for all the wrong reasons. From looking through reviews, the bad manners seem to be a common theme they are not interested in improving Do not go here if you want any customer service, basic conversation or the slightest bit of common courtesy because neither are available. It’s laughable!

Staff were cold and unfriendly. We felt unwelcome. Staff need basic customer service training. It is a shame as it seemed like a nice cafe. The food was okay but we had to panic order as we had no idea what was on the menu as they were on the walls and difficult to read and there was no introduction/explanation from the waiting staff. Some more veggie friendly options would be great. I wouldn't return based on the grumpiness of the staff!

I came in today to treat myself to a solo lunch. I have been dealing with an enormous amount of stress recently, as my sister was taken into hospital and has been very poorly. I asked for a diet coke with ice, they don't have ice, so I asked if they could pop it in the freezer for 5 mins as I like my coke very cold. Which they did. Started ordering and there was no help, no warmth, just I'll have to write this down, wandered off and never came back! My coffee arrived with no spoon or offer of sugar, asked for sweetener twice and eventually received 10 mins after my coffee. My vegetarian breakfast was ok, my poached eggs were wet on the plate and I wasn't offered condiments. The service is really lacking, I don't want people to do cartwheels but just basic pleasant customer service would suffice. You never know what a bit of kindness does to a person's day.. All in all, not the treat I had been looking forward to. Positives: the coffee is good and they have a good selection of greetings cards..

After hearing plenty of positive reviews me and my partner decided to give this place a try for lunch. We got a seat outside and I headed in to find a menu, I stood around looking lost for a moment as no staff member even acknowledge me. Eventually, I managed to find my own from a spare table.I believe table service was in operation but after a wait I decided to try and order at the til. Me and another customer waited over 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us or even arrive at the til. We placed a rather simple order of a prawn sandwich and a BLT.Now, this cafe has no more than 20/30 seats available so isn’t overly busy yet we waited 25 minutes, not for our food, but to be told they had no bacon left for our BLT.At this point I had had enough and told the waitress that we were just going to leave and couldn’t wait any longer, to my amazement she replied: “it’s not our fault we’re busy”.No apology, no owning the issue, we were made to feel like it was our fault. I won’t be returning.

I visited this cafe today and was appalled by the service and ignorance of the waitress (owner). Her manners or lack of were disgusting. From taking our order to serving us she did not utter a word. When serving us she made no eye contact whatsoever not helped by the fact that her long lank hair was hanging over her face. Hair such as hers should surely be tied back or in a net when serving food. On a plus note the food and coffee is very good but I definitely will not be returning after receiving such rude service.

If you want fresh home cooked food for breakfast/lunch/brunch then Tinderbox is just the loveliest place to go. Beautiful homemade soup, the freshest bread for fabulous door stop sandwiches (though very happy to slice the bread thinner for those who want a smaller portion), a gorgeous daily special and the loveliest homemade cakes. A menu with just enough choice that decisions are easy to make and staff who are more than happy to accommodate any special dietary requirements wherever possible. Bear in mind that as the food is so nice on very busy days your favourites might sell out quickly. The problem is that always going for a sandwich they are so filling I have never had the opportunity to try one of he rather tempting looking home made cakes. Service slightly slow but worth the wait

A place to be visited! This cafe really stands out amongst all the others! I think the last reviewer was the grumpy one! This is a lovely family run business, all home made food cooked with loving care. Fantastic interior, great atmosphere, friendly chatty staff and great fast service! Nice gifts to purchase too! Love, love, love it!

The doorstep toasties are still fab but of late the cakes have been less than fresh and I'm charged differing prices ( for the same items) every time I visit! The staff used to be chatty, welcoming and on the ball but recently orders are slow in being taken by grumpy faced staff. C'mon Tinderbox folks you have a wonderful cafe here but you need to stay focused on your customers :-)

Love love love tinderbox, the rustic cool decor is fab, the staff are exceptional and food is fresh, tasty and always offering something you can't say no to. The cakes are homemade to perfection and the carrot cake is the best I have ever tasted...anywhere! I love escaping here for coffee and cake and a bit of me time.

We decided to try lunch here after we couldn't get in the corn mill and we're glad we did...it was delicious! The set up is lovely, the staff are friendly and the food was tasty and fresh. We had soup and a sandwich, the soup was homemade and very tasty, our sandwiches were on doorstop bread which was so fresh. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would most definitely visit again.

Tinderbox has struck the perfect balance between style and substance. Unpretentious yet super stylish with a warm and friendly environment. The menu is small, simple and delicious, made by people that obviously love food. The main menu consists of breakfasts such as full English, eggy bread, homemade scotch pancakes and bacon (delicious), then doorstop toasties (my fave) and sandwiches.the simple menu is supplemented by the daily specials, homemade soup and new and interesting options. Then there's the cakes! All made by them, all delicious, no pre packaged wholesale cakes, proper homemade cake!I wish more places in PLF would take a leaf out of Tinderbox's book, good honest food done well. The gift shop is a delight too :-)

Went to Poulton to meet a friend for lunch and wandered into the Tinderbox. It was a lovely atmosphere, with friendly staff. The soup was delicious and the toasties divine, would recommend this little gem for sure. Will certainly return.

We were shopping in Poulton yesterday and called in for tea. The home made cakes were delicious. We had Victoria sandwich and Lemon drizzle cake - very generous portions too! We loved the atmosphere which was really welcoming and friendly. The decor is lovely with a rustic and cosy feel and pretty twinkly lights. Lovely scarfs, jewellery and lots more. We will call in again to buy our cards and sample the lunch menu!Keri and Daryl

I've been here quite a few times and it's always fab!! The gifts are lovely and jewellery is always tempting me over. The staff are quick to attend you and I'm always greated with a friendly and accommodating smile. It's very child friendly which is pleasing. Not a massive menu, but all made to a high standard and the daily specials are mouth watering!! And the cake....oh the cake. All made by the owner/chef and all totally amazing, it's so hard to choose. I would highly recommend a visit.

We visited here on Valentines day for some brunch before our train. The place itself is lovely, a really nice setting. The menu/food was also very good. My only niggles really were the service and the actual atmosphere. They fry all the food in the main room itself and there's no industrial extractor fan, just a standard kitchen extractor. Therefore the air smelt strongly of fat and there was a haze in the room from the fat in the air too! When we left our clothes smelt of fat. Obviously this could be easily rectified if they cooked the fried food in the back kitchen instead of the main room. The only other niggle was the service was very slow and the young waitress was very forgetful, there didn't seem to be any one in charge ensuring the waiting staff were on the ball. As a result we didn't know whether to sit down or wait to be seated. We waited 5 minutes for a menu and then waited a long time for our drinks. Again, a lot of the issues re the service are easily sorted. So basically I'm reviewing as I really liked the place, and I enjoyed the food etc and it's got bags of potential so I hope it continues to do well and can improve a little!

This place was recommended to us by a friend. Took my wife and Mum in for a coffee and a spot of lunch. The decor was different and brilliant. The lighting was excellent piece of work. Service was very friendly and personal. Coffees served in lovely big bright mugs and the food was equally as nice. Big chunks of bread really well filled with excellent produce and topped off with a lovely salad. Not to mention that the toilets were given the all clear by my wife !!Will definitely be going back for a relaxing coffee or two.Great place.

I visited Tinderbox after a reccomendation from a friend and I was very pleased with this little gem in the middle of Poluton. The gift shop has a lovely collection of gifts and cards that I have not seen anywhere else, very modern and different. The little cafe at the back is wonderful with its old benches and comfy seating. I had a delicous hot chocolate which tasted as though it was made with dark chocolate, very rich and yummy. I was dissapointed that there was no gluten free cake and it didn't look like they were very adaptable for people who require gluten free food. I would visit again and fingers crossed they might have something I can eat. Even a pre packed gluten free cake would be ok so that I would not feel left out when friends are having a nibble on something (the food did look delicious)

Adam the Chef has created his own version of pancakes they are absolutely delicious especially with maple syrup yum yum you get 6 pancakes for the princely sum of £3.95p and for an extra £1.50 you can have slices of crisp bacon.Adam has also created a fantastic range of cakes, bake well tart with nice succulent cherries, fruit cakes and scones. His home made soups are very tasty and the helpings are generous. The service at this café is first rate and obviously most of the patrons think so too because the tips tin is full to flowing with expensive coins of the realm. juicy cherries

In a former market town that has an abundance of cafes, the Tinderbox is a refreshingly basic cafe situated at the rear of a gift shop. Basic wooden tables and a variety of wooden chairs, even a 'coffee table ' made from an overturned cable reel, complement the unusual decor featuring tea chest and coffee sack designs. Muted background music and lighting add to the ambiance.Serving breakfasts and light meals, there is plenty to whet the appetite. I selected 'pigs in blankets' with caramelised onion served on a fresh bun - a tasty treat accompanied by a nice large latte served in a bright red cup. Service is spot on as are the very reasonable prices. The gift shop has some really nice quality gifts, some of which are quite unusual. Seating is fairly limited and it does get busy at peak times.

Popped in 4 a light lunch again today, still no dairy alternatives to milk or butter, it is so surprising in this day and age that this is not offered, do we take our own, prices r reasonable but not cheap. Good toilets though and lots of room between the tables.

The staff here no matter what are always just hiding In the kitchen avoiding serving and if they do it’s as if I’ve put them out … moody and unhelpful. I stopped eating in here a long time ago because the food was always disappointing but the staff last night was the cherry to never going in again. Bye cube x
