The best restaurants serving British food in London

Terrible customer service. Food was nice but we had snacks and cocktails. Staff member asked us to Leave after we had been there for less than 2 hrs. Seemed more interested in the teenagers smoking shisha than adults who went for food and drinks. Wasn’t happy at all.

Went here for a coffee. Stood at till to be served. Two staff at till. One showing the other something on till. Stood for ages to be served not one of them said sorry to keep you waiting or even noted that I was there. Then someone came behind me in queue someone from the back appeared and served him.i am still waiting. I left without being served. Staff very rude. Won't go back here.

We had an amazing Sunday lunch for my Husbands birthday, couldn’t fault any of it. Wonderful staff, that made us feel very welcome and well looked after. The food was incredible and we can’t wait to go back!

Llegamos a tomar una copa y un aperitivo después de visitar el teatro y quedamos muy decepcionados. Si bien el lugar era encantador, el tiempo que pasaba esperando una pequeña porción de chips era ridículo. 4 por unos 12 chips pequeños fue muy decepcionante. Cuando preguntamos si la pequeña porción era normal, simplemente nos dijeron "sí". No volveremos de nuevo!

Me apareció en un café y un pastel mientras volvía caminando de la estación de metro de Clapham South hasta el apartamento de mi amigo. Pequeño establecimiento tipo de café muy popular con la gente para un café y un pastel. Una razonable variedad de cosas de comer y beber, y tiene un set fuera de las mesas. Algunos críticos anteriores deben ser confuso este lugar en Balham con otros lugares de un nombre similar en otra parte de Londres. Vale la pena visitar si estás en la zona.

I wasn't expecting much and wasn't disappointed. To be fair it was cheap (ish) at just over £80 for the night. No staff visible. I spoke to the barman in the adjacent pub who helped out. No toilet roll. Was I meant to take my own? No soap for hand washing. Hand basin tap was extremely wonky and loose. Broken toilet flush button, but it worked. Very strong smell of cannabis on entering the hotel. Retired police officer so yes, it was cannabis. Bare light fittings on the stairs which were very grubby. The door has a push button manual code lock. No handle on the outside and where it had been was simply stuffed with tissue paper to block the hole. Not additionally lockable from the inside that I could figure out so I blocked the door with the chair and luggage just in case. Room was simple and clean, sheets and towels were clean. I didn't know they made televisions that small but that was fine - I didn't need or use it. Area isn't the most salubrious. No table for the side lamp which was so high I could barely reach it anyway.

We travelled from Norfolk to visit family in Essex, and one of the things we were most excited about was a good old-fashioned pie and mash meal. We placed a big order for delivery (14 pies, with mash and liquor!), intending to bring some of it back to Norfolk with us, and honestly, there are no words but WOW! The service was outstanding—our delivery arrived perfectly on time, and the whole experience felt like they went above and beyond. And the food? Simply the best pie and mash I’ve had in ages! The pies were delicious, the mash was perfect, and the liquor was spot-on. This place truly knows how to deliver quality and taste. We’ve already decided—anytime we’re back in Essex, this will be our first stop! Highly recommend it to anyone craving authentic pie and mash.

We paid £12 each for tickets to see the firelight event . Completely ruined by the rude staff at The Green Cafe. We were there at the start cold ,hungry and needing some drinks and food we headed straight to the indoor cafe at the event. There were only a few people in front of us but the pace was astonishingly slow. Finally when it was our turn to get served by someone called Jo we asked about Vegan food. Apparently there was some being made. I wanted a menu or list to order seeing as I'd waited so long to get served but no list looking around stressed Jo eventually said "list over there" no indication where over there was so had to leave my place in queue and hunt around. Finally went outside and there was a specials notice not a list of food you could order as only mentioned one vegan option and not the things that were in the oven. Stressed out I asked someone called John who then basically said "We are here to have a good time!" and that I was "Wasting his!" . I couldn't belive the attitude after they had already ruined the evenings event. I then asked for a manager and she came over and literally grabbed my arm and told me to start again as if she couldn't understand what I was saying? I told her to not touch me and she literally flounced off! I was left there with still no food, no drinks no menu and and another queue had formed. In tears I left the event after only visiting the cafe but as I walked out the gate in tears and shocked at the treatment the events organiser who I said I'd never come back again too was lovely and really great and convinced us to stay as they had fire eaters to watch and it had only started. We ended up going to a food stall instead and it costs £15 for 2 truly awful veggie burgers and fries (only they were not fries they were Potato Wedges) My elderly mother went back in cafe as we needed wines it was that much of an ordeal. I waited and waited . To my complete shock when I finally went looking for her she was still at the back of the queue a small queue ! I've never seen anything like this!!! as a result we missed the fire eaters which was only event we were there for! There was only music so this was only event worth seeing and we missed the whole thing waiting on 2 drinks in cafe so £12 each completely wasted !!!! It was absolutely horrendous and I'd never ever go back. The prices for everything were a rip off. I basically spent £45 for wines and footstall food and to be treated so appallingly simply because the cafe can't give a list actually serve anything in a reasonable time and thinks gaslighting you for it is a service. I'd never step foot in forty hall again as that's the only cafe I could see and it ruined what could have been a good night. I'm mean completely ruined.!!! I'm still extremely livid on writing this review the following morning. I have mental health issues and my mother is a pensioner so we don't go out much and after this experience and the way I was spoken to and left treated I doubt we will again.

Incomprensiblemente s / hite. Imagínese esto: esperé 10 - 15 minutos en el bar para que me pidieran mi pedido, mientras que literalmente solo había 3 de nosotros en el bar en total. ¡Resultado! PAGO por el Old Fashioned y me dijeron que lo iban a llevar a mi mesa. Todo bien. Pasó el tiempo y me compraron una bebida. Admito que no pensé que pareciera un Old Fashioned estándar, pero no soy un experto en cócteles y este lugar parecía un poco extraño de todos modos, así que bebí un sorbo. No, definitivamente no es un Old Fashioned. Lo habían echado a perder y me habían regalado una Margarita. Me quejo . . . No, a regañadientes sigo bebiendo. . . No vale la pena quejarse y esperar otros 20 minutos intentando tomar una copa. El alcohol sigue siendo el alcohol ¿verdad? La gente comete errores. Es genial. No te preocupes por las cosas pequeñas. . . ! El tiempo pasa. No pasó mucho tiempo antes de que el barman estuviera de pie gesticulando en la Margarita y me preguntó si había ordenado un Old Fashioned. "Bueno sí. . Ordené un anticuado ”dije. Entonces él, sin ningún sentimiento de vergüenza, dice que necesitaría pagar 8 adicionales. 50 para la Margarita también y me culpó por tomar un sorbo de ella. Como bien me dio un saque. Dijo que debería haber sabido que no era lo que pedí antes de tomar un sorbo. Literalmente dijo que estas cosas son caras y que a otro cliente ahora le falta su bebida. Lo siento WTF? ! ¿Estas loco? ! ¿Qué tipo de negocio es este? Estos chicos rellenaron mi pedido, me trajeron la bebida equivocada. . y luego, si eso no es lo suficientemente aficionado, dame el descaro absoluto a BLAME ME por tomar un sorbo de la bebida que me entregaron y me dijo que también le debía el costo de la Margarita. ! Este lugar está más allá de la comprensión.

Arrived at 11.20 for brunch. It’s been refurbished since we last went and has lost its farm feel and the farm shop is minuscule. We’re asked if we wanted to sit outside or in - replied outside and we’re told to take any table we wanted. Couldn’t find a free table outside so we’re then showed to a table inside. Given menus etc. waited 5 mins for someone to take our order. When she arrived she said they’d stopped serving breakfast, it stopped at 11.30. It was 11.33. We asked if the kitchen would still serve us as we had arrived before 11,30. She went away and came back and said no. Pizzas only. We left. Absolute joke. Won’t be going back.

This cafe used to be a nice place to pop in for a coffee or a meal. I popped in for the first since December 2019, I used to go fairly regularly. What a disappointment. Service was poor, staff didn't know what "half" meant but was fully ready to charge me for a pint and did so with no apology. Returned to my table to tell me that the chef had just started cooking for the day and the squid that I had ordered wasn't available and that I should come to the bar for refund. I wasn't offered an apology and when I asked whether it might be considerate to offer me an alternative, she looked at me like I was weird and yes she would do so but " you need to get a refund first". Upon receiving my refund another member of staff ( the manger I think) asked if I wanted anything else, I declined and explained that my vibe had been broken and he wasn't particularly bothered as to why. Three issues with my order, charged for a pint, when I clearly asked for a half. Rough staff service and less than considerate customer care. As I have said, I have been to this establishment many times so I feel that I am in a position to judge. I given a two star rating because the chips I eat there didn't give me stomach ache...

We have never been here before but will return. It is clean, the pasties were delicious and the staff were lovely and friendly.

Just had a medium Cod which was cooked to perfection and skin removed which I don't mind either way. They do what looks like a very nice pie & mash Wed thru Sat and must go back to give this a try. Great staff and a great experience as always.
