1665 Brasserie in Richmond upon Thames

Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at 1665 Brasserie. The setting with the river view was fantastic, after a walk along the towpath by Hampton Court and in Home Park. Food was delicious and friendly service.

We had an amazing Sunday lunch for my Husbands birthday, couldn’t fault any of it. Wonderful staff, that made us feel very welcome and well looked after. The food was incredible and we can’t wait to go back!

Food was good and staff were attentive but I would never go again at the weekend - event on in next room and blasting YMCA etc ( mid volume with occasional blast when door opened) which totally ruined the atmosphere. Put in an extra door guys!

Absolutely fabulous food … opted for the lunchtime Prix Fixe menu which was very good value. The service was prompt and efficient - particular shout out for Carla , friendly and accommodating.

We arrived shortly after the kitchen closed. The waiter could see our kids were exhausted so asked the kitchen staff to accommodate which they did. We very much appreciated this and had a lovely meal, with excellent service in a perfect setting over seeing the river. Many thanks

We each had two courses and of those we had one good starter, the cured salmon, and one good main, the sirloin steak. Having said that, the peppercorn sauce was sent back and asked to be taken off the bill for being really quite unpleasant and unlike any other peppercorn sauce we’d had before. The other starter - the cheese soufflé, had not risen at all should not have been sent from the kitchen like that. The other main was the pork belly. The small pork cheek on the plate was delicious but the pork belly itself was completely undercooked. It was a solid lump of meat and I literally couldn’t get my knife through it. At no time were we asked how our food was, in fact the serving staff seemed to be actively avoiding our table having sent the sauce back. Nobody came to pour wine after the first glass, we were left to our own devices. When the server collected the plates I was not asked if my meal had been OK, bearing in mind I was sending back the biggest component on the plate, pretty much untouched. The prices being charged are comparable to very decent restaurants but the service and quality of cooking were far below the standards expected for the prices charged.

Been here a few times, always prefer the terrace seating outside. We both had a good meal but I do think the whispering angels is far too overpriced. Why pay £55 for a normal bottle when you can buy it from a shop for £20? Food was decent, the cauliflower popcorn is always a 10/10. Shoutout to our waitress Darcy who was very friendly and fast.

We arrived early, we had extra people and one of our party had serious mobility issues. It was an extremely busy Sunday lunchtime and everything was handled calmly and cheerfully. Very impressive. As was the dining room and the food. Couldn’t fault it. Well done.

Do not recommend the gnocchi, unless you like paying £19 to eat a bowl of oil with some gnocchi in it. The brasserie seemed very expensive for what it was. Lunch for two where we shared one starter and didn’t have dessert or wine was over £80 and not all of the cutlery and glasses were actually clean. Disappointing.

The food was exceptional, tasty and fresh. The service was fantastic and I highly recommend. Steak tartare was the best I have ever had.

Mediocre at best. Service was awful. Starter delivered without the wine we ordered. When I went to bar to see where it was, I was told not to make a scene? Didn’t raise my voice or anything so odd response. Rump steak for just under £30 was a minute steak that was way overcooked. Would have had a better meal at the local Beefeater. Lovely setting to be fair and quite a good atmosphere but could be so much better for the price

Wish I'd popped on her to read reviews before going and we'd just have gone for drinks or maybe afternoon tea. A very kind friend had given me a voucher for my birthday to spend at the Mitre, so I booked a terrace table a month or so in advance, hoping the weather would be nice in early July. I couldn't find my email confirmation of the booking, so rang just to double check I had booked 5 days beforehand and reconfirmed a terrace booking too as the weather was forecast to be hot and sunny. Then I rang again on the day as it was due to be 28'C and sunny and wanted to reconfirm we'd be on the terrace ahead of some walk in from the HCP Flower Show, I was told it was fine we would be. We got there a few minutes early for our table (so they can't use the excuse we were late for our table) and were put inside on the table nearest the kitchen (there were several loud crashes of glass during our meal) and between the bar where all the drinks orders were collected. When I said I'd booked the terrace, they said sorry it was full ... even more annoyingly giving the last table on the terrace to two women who walked in front of us as we were waiting to be seated (I hadn't worried at that particular moment as I'd thought my outdoor booking was safe). I suppose I should have stood my ground and said we'd wait for a table to come up, but we had to get home at some point for the babysitter and there was no indication one might come free soon. I was so disappointed, as I couldn't believe my luck when the weather had been so lovely that day for a booking made for an outdoor terrace a month in advance in the UK(!) and had spent the whole day looking forward to an evening in the open air (even under the covered terrace would have been better) for a rare date night with hubby. The food was distinctly average and I can think of plenty of places locally we'd have had a better night for a quarter of the cost. This is the second disappointing dinner we've had there (first was Apr 22), so after a magical morning yoga session on the terrace with friends and brunch after which made me love the terrace, the dinners have put me off ever returning again. Will leave it to the tourists and the flower show visitors, who are happy to pay their inflated prices due to location, because I can't see their repeat business being high.

Great location limited menu mediocre food. Aviator salad starter was half a huge lettuce sprinkled with parmisan croutons and a couple of anchovies. Lamb main was OK. My wife's sole en papillote was small overcooked dry and stuck to the paper. Service was slow and we didn't stay for desert. Very poor value for money.

Booked a table for my wife's special birthday around a month in advance. We are local and have enjoyed the restaurant many times before. It is quite strict on booking details and asks for a card to be reserved and charged if a no show or notice not given in advance of cancellation. Despite this they called me to say that my reservation was being cancelled, a wedding had been booked and had not been updated in the system. There was little empathy or no sorry given. Why they waited almost a month to communicate this I have no idea. Given the short notice I was unable to book another table at one of my partners other favoured restaurants in time, really spoiling the surprise. This was the second time an error with a booking had been made, previously we had booked on the terrace, only to be told that we had a table inside, after a while the truth emerged and surprise we had a table on the terrace. We will never return to the 1665 Brasserie, incredibly poor service, showing on two separate occasions they really do not care for their customers.

We are so disappointed, I rang to book a table for a late lunch and was told that I could have a table at 3.45. Unfortunately we were delayed by 10 minutes and when we arrived we were told our table had been allocated to another party. We were served our drinks and then informed the kitchen was closed for an hour to give the staff a break. Why did they book our table at that time when they must have known that the kitchen was closed??? We were so disappointed, and left very hungry. Do not come here. Its such a shame because the setting is beautiful.
