The best restaurants serving British food in East of England

We went for drinks with our family, were only told after we purchased the drinks that children age 13 were not allowed in the bar area.?? The bar area only had handful people in it?? We were told one figure when paying, but on checking bank when we returned home, found more money was taken Also found the bar person cold in their welcome, not what you expect from staff working in a pub Shan’t be back

great food but wont let my kids in the soft play even when it is open. its an outrage they even removed the outdoor playground so there is no entertainment what so ever. its a joke why cant they just let kids have fun in this sad twisted world.

I spent 2 nights at the brick kilns as I was working close by and I have to say that the place is lovely and the staff and the food is absolutely amazing

Good environment and very good food. Staff was very welcoming and kind. Good options of food and drinks. Definitely enjoyed this place.

Booked a table in the restaurant, note restaurant, not cafe, for lunch. On arrival although there was a “wait here to be seated” sign, no staff were around. After waiting a while being totally ignored I walked up towards the till and spoke to a young lady, I said we have a table booked, she said “ask her” gesturing to the lady on the till. So I joined the queue. Then a guy came out and I said “excuse me, we have a table booked”, he checked and showed us to a table and then said “when you’re ready,order at the till”! No table service that you would expect in a restaurant. So having waited at the door, queued to actually tell someone we had a table booked and then realising we had to queue again to order food, we walked out, as did two other couples. This place is absolutely chaotic, if you advertise yourselves as a restaurant most people would expect table service. Won’t be returning and most definately would not recommend, lousy customer service.

Visited here the other week for a sunday roast and it did not disappoint. Lovely big homemade Yorkshire pudding, crispy roast potatoes and tender roast beef. Great atmosphere.

Stopped to charge the car, and popped in for a drink and snack while we waited. Left after only using the toilet. Horrible experience wouldn't have used but I was desperate. Glad my husband had not yet ordered anything as hygiene is clearly not a priority, noted some unclean tables on way out. Not as if they were that busy. Come on ....wake up, you can do better

Superb atmosphere. Friendly, local pub feel alongside warmth of reception by staff & all visitors to pub & dining too. Food of excellent quality too, Treated so wonderfully & could relax and feel ready to chat & laugh & enjoy our time we spent there. It’s once again a truly huge Thank you and praise to everyone as this is the 6th time visited and will keep on returning. We left with an incredible uplift to “our spirits and our tummies too”

Great place to go. I come here all the time and there’s no where better to go in saffron Walden then here. Nice priced drinks and food. Also the food is delicious. Will always recommend

We’d both just like to thank you for a great few days. You have a lovely place, our room was very comfortable and clean and had all we required. The kings head itself is a real gem, it was like stepping back in time. We were made to feel very welcome which helped to make our visit to Suffolk so enjoyable. The breakfasts were perfect and the evening meals were more than we could have hoped for, absolutely delicious. You are both excellent hosts and obviously work extremely hard to give your guests a very pleasant experience. Best regards Stephen and Carole Wilden

A quaint olde inn full of character. We stayed here for one night whilst visiting our daughter nearby. The double room was clean with a comfortable bed. The shower was very good. Breakfast was well cooked and substantial. All staff were friendly and welcoming. Would definitely stay again.
