The surroundings are lovely, the food was fresh, hot and tasty, albeit the selection was small as was the portion. Nice environment for a special occasion or meeting friends in the area. We walked through the grounds and had lunch at 2:30pm.

We had a wonderful day looking around the house. We stopped for lunch in the Orangery, expecting it to be a nice treat. We had to seek out someone to help us find a table. You then have to go and order and pay for your food at the counter. No table service. Water is available at a station with glasses on your table. We ordered a ciabatta with no butter. It came out with butter. We sent it back and said no spread. It came back with dairy free butter. We said no spread. It came back with margarine!! At that point I said forget it and the waiter said they’d do it with nothing on, so finally it arrived after my husband had finished eating. What a farce! When it did arrive it was only half a baguette - my husband remarked how small it was. There was no mention of where to find salt, sauces etc. We noticed them at a station on our way out of the restaurant! Overall it was very disappointing and such a shame as it could be so much better considering the surroundings

on 28th August 2024, my husband and I visited Burghley House and called in for coffee at the Orangery during our visit. We were sitting not far from the food table where cakes and pastries were on display. We noted that most of the cakes were under glass domes and looked delicious, however at one end of the table there were scones, croissants and sugar topped shortbreads which were not covered. There were several flies landing on these items. I politely, and discreetly, pointed out that this was happening and suggested they might be covered. I must say that the manageress of the Orangery was disinterested and dismissive of my comment and returned to whatever she was doing on her mobile phone. Therefore there was no attempt made to cover the confectionery . An hour and a half later I was extremely disappointed to say that cakes were still exposed to flies (of which there had been an increase in number). Needless to say we did not stay for any further refreshments. I suggest that levels of hygiene, relating to displays should be reviewed by the management of the Orangery...it would not be too much to provide protection from flies to avoid this serious health risk. I would like to point out that the serving staff were very polite during our short visit. I emailed my concerns to the Orangery but have had no acknowledgement or response to my email even though I told them I was awaiting their response.

When we got there the restaurant was empty. We ordered at the till and gave our correct table number. 3 families came in after us and were served before us. After the 3rd family was served I went back up to the till to ask where our food was and if the order had been put through. A staff member went into the kitchen and came back out and said we tried to deliver the food to your table twice but no one was sitting there. I said we haven’t moved the entire time we’ve been waiting - after which they realised they had made a mistake with the table numbers. No apology - nothing offered to us for the pleasure of waiting an hour for our food. Disappointing and tainted an otherwise lovely visit to Burghley House. I’m not one to leave a bad review but I was honestly shocked at how unfriendly and unapologetic the staff were when it was their own error.

The food tasted nice but service wasn't great - for the kind of price and place it is. It felt like it didn't quite get it right. Things they could improve on: * We had reservation but wandered in and couldn't even really see anyone to tell! We just ended up sitting down but still had earlier menus out so had to search for lunch ones. * Small portions - children's meals would only be enough for under 5's or very small appetite and you'd be lucky to have an older kid who would have wanted anything off adult menu! * Partner has a burger for £12 and it didn't even come with chips. He said it was nice but for price expected bigger or more on it. My mum had salmon which was a very small portion for the price. * Not much for fussy eaters - not great for kids or the elderly that like plain pub type grub. * No table service. Again, wouldn't have issue with this but it felt like it didn't really know what it wanted to be or what customer it wanted. I feel it needs to either be more of a cafe with a less posh menu or be posher but then provide better service. It is overpriced for what it is, especially when other options just outside the house that were more appealing.

We had booked a table for four at 12 noon. Ambiance was spectacular. Service was ok… Food was dreadful……….. Two of the guests order a Feather Blade Steak Ciabatta. £11.00 Well…. A single Ciabatta was cut in half, the steak was no more than 6/8 little bits (not that you could put much more on as it was so small!!!) and a few onions/rocket and bacon and onion jam. This was the smallest Ciabatta I have ever seen. ELEVEN POUNDS an absolute rip off.

I can't see how I can give anything other than the stars I have. At 4.48pm earlier this week (we'd checked as knew it was close to closing time) I entered with a friend. I asked a staff member if we could get a quick drink (we'd been on a long walk in the grounds). We were well aware it closed at 5, hence the quick reference. She asked the security guard (there to lock up at 5?) who said they'd stopped serving. And that was that! A suggestion would be to put something on the timings about when orders are accepted until. On reflection, even being offered a takeaway drink would have been something. We felt incredibly unwelcome and were effectively ejected - 12 minutes before it actually closed. Reading the rest of the reviews, this beautiful café should be doing far better.

Disappointed at the tiny portion on breakfast menu. £7.50 for 2 x poached egg on one very small piece of sourdough toast with small garnish. No accompaniments. Compared to the sausage sandwich which was the same price for two slices of the same toast, two sausages and a ramekin filled with chutney. I asked at the time and was told that’s just how it is. One slice of bread when two would be more suitable! Very unusual and I felt unnecessarily tight-fisted for such a lovely location. And unresolved complaint.

Disappointing - they lost our reservation, you have to order at a counter, and the food was badly hit and miss. My main course caesar salad with chicken for £17.50 consisted of hard overcooked chicken and a *tiny* bit of salad. I decided not to complain as it was a special occasion, but was upset to see two plates of proper full-sized caesar salads with chicken - at least 4 times the size of mine - be taken past to other guests as we were leaving. WTF? There was no wine list - we had to be ask what they had and were hurriedly shown several bottles - and the wine was served in short measures (I saw her struggling with the measure). Having said which, my husband's pork belly dish and the view were great.

Excellent on all accounts. Very professional and efficient team who worked well under pressure. When I visited, it was a busy lunchtime on a sunny scorcher day. Staff coped with the queue and didn't lose their cool, served with smile and grace. Plenty of seats outside in the gardens by the pond. Sloped access for wheelchairs. Lovely presentation of food. Good range of teas and bakes, with vegan and gluten free optionsavailable. I had a pot of tea twist lemongrass and coconut. I had the courgette and lime cake and tried one of the specials - chocolate yoghurt mousse. Would revisit and would recommend. Thank you to all the staff.

My partner and i recently met up here for lunch with other members of our family and we left thoroughly disappointed with both the service and the food, which may i add was very over priced. Considering we had reserved our table we had to queue up to order , when the food did eventually turn up it came in drips and drabs, my partner and i had the leg of lamb which consisted of a couple of slices of tasteless meat and i must mention the vegetables, a long detailed description of this amazing selection... laughable, carrots ?? I had a quarter or ONE yes one and my partner had the quarter of ONE parsnip, this i found was totally unacceptable for the price we paid. Other members of our party too were equally disappointed , the terrine ... salty cat food, was one description, a small plate of pigeon salad, small ? ..micro i would say. i could go on equally about the attitude of the waiter also but i will leave it here, safe to say we won't be returning.

Had to wait over an hour for food, which didn't arrive until we complained to a manager. Previously we were told it would come 'next', but then waited a further 20 mins. We have a 2 year old who was desperately hungry by the time our order arrived. The best bit is it was only 2 small, cold plates and some fish fingers! Would have helped if they had told us the restaurant was in meltdown at the point where we ordered. We wouldn't have bothered. Saw a few more tables getting full refunds while we were there. We were also fully refunded. The food, when it finally came, was pretty good. I wouldn't recommend this place at peak times, or for those with kids.

The cafe's location and atmosphere are the only factors contributing to its popularity. Apart from that, the food isn't particularly noteworthy. I have been there a few times, but I am not sure what to think of it, thus it took me some time to write this review. The cuisine is mediocre. The pastries' presentation was shoddy. I am not sure if this was an isolated event or if it has always been this way. I noticed the same thing both times I have been there. The town has many more lovely cafes. I think this cafe would struggle to attract customers if those were a little closer.

I meet a friend here about once a year as it's roughly halfway between us, and it's the most wonderful spot for a catch up. Last time was on a frosty day in December, and it was magical, like living in a Christmas card... complete with a fun run of Santas! We had brunch and then segued on to lunch and a very good time was had. Plus the gift shops were excellent. Food nice, but I have to say it's the ambience that makes it. One day I must see what else Burghley House has to offer! No rush for that though :D

We were gifted a voucher for afternoon tea for two. Booking was easy online, I added the voucher number to the booking. All ok on arrival although the little 2 seater table felt a bit like we were sat in the aisle. Luckily it wasn’t busy. Decaf coffee was a bit too strong for me. No refills were offered so we weren’t sure if they were included. Food was nice. On leaving we double checked before we left as no one had come back to us. This caused some confusion when our booking was checked, finally the third person we asked said that we owed another £25 as the voucher was afternoon tea for 2 but was only for one person. We obviously paid but wondered if this wasn’t very clear when my son bought it for us. Overall the afternoon tea was fine, but I wouldn’t normally pay £50 for this. I’ve had far better for half the price

I booked afternoon tea for a party of 20 ladies to celebrate 50 years since leaving school and still remaining friends. Right from the beginning of considering the venue Megan Powell the Restaurant and Events Manager was so helpful and accommodating. Megan provided suggestions for layout and drinks on arrival. The afternoon tea was amazing value at £17.25pp which was the price for groups of 10 or more. The food was so fresh and delicious, everyone enjoyed the variety provided and all dietary requirements were catered for. Each person had their own afternoon tea stand and did not have to share. We had dedicated staff for the afternoon who were amazing so we didn't have to go to the normal pay point for any extras. The whole event ran smoothly and was enjoyed by all who attended which was down to Megan and her team. Nothing was too much trouble. Afternoon tea was booked for 3.00pm but we had our table from 12.00 midday. I would thoroughly recommend the Orangery for any gathering. 5 stars for everything.

We have eaten at the Orangery before and thoroughly enjoyed it so did not hesitate to book again for a celebratory meal. We arrived at about 12:45 having booked a table (lunch served 12-14:30). when we went to order our main course we were told that neither of our choices were available - these were the only meat dishes on the main menu. I said I thought this was not acceptable given that we were not at the end of the lunch period. Eventually we were told that the kitchen could provide our choice but there would be a 30 minute wait - not too serious given that we had a lovely situation looking out onto the garden. When the food finally arrived, it was good! Went to order desserts and again told that one of our choices was no longer available! So made an alternative order. waited 25mins and nothing was forthcoming so went to the counter again to be told that our food would be plated up soon! So conclusion for my review is that if they have the food you order, it is very good - BUT the service left much to be desired.

Lovely restaurant at Burghley House, Lincolnshire. Once you're done visiting the spectacular palatial mansion that is Burghley House you might want to relax at The Orangery, especially in the picturesque outside seating area. You order your food at the desk, it will be brought to you (So, do memorize your table number!). Full lunches and light bites are available. I just had a fruit scone with jam and clotted cream, which was lovely. Alas, for us beer drinkers the selection is limited to ONE beer, the dreaded Sharpe`s Doom Bar. Anyway, the ambience is wonderful, and the prices, while elevated, aren't a rip-off.

We used to love to come here. We visit every year for my Mum's birthday. It still has nice room and garden to sit in. But the menu, coffee, and quality of service has diminished which is a shame. I would still say its a nice place to visit but it used to be lovely - on the pricey side- but a nice treat. Now, it's expensive and OK but if I were going again, I would probably have lunch in Stamford instead, or bring a picnic. In the Orangery, you used to get a lovely cafetiere of coffee, now it's depressingly out of a machine - prices on par with a motorway services Starbucks. The staff were struggling with how busy the place was. It was the day of Battle of the Proms so they may have had more visitors than normal. We waited for a table which was fine. However once sat we found the menu has been cut down. We were too late for brunch, to early for afternoon tea. Lunch was pork belly hot sandwich, or lamb meatballs or cod loin. All over twelve pounds in price. I think the quality of food is still good but not the choice. We went for chips....as didn't fancy pork belly, lamb or cod. They were ok but delivered in silver buckets which held about 10 chips. No bowl or plate with them either. The lad brought the 3 bucket miniatures out with them clutched to his chest...I guess the kitchen had no trays. The girl on the till went to replace scones, which were out of a packet (I thought they may have been homemade....alas not). She dropped lid covering cakes and replaced it after it had been on the floor. I'm not fussy but....yeah....not what I would expect really. The staff looked sad and stressed. So ....go to Orangery if you are gasping for a drink on your visit to Burghley. You may have to book table beforehand, expect it to cost you, be busy, staff grumpy and it will be like most places just ok....not as special as it once was.

Disappointing deli brunch sausage sandwich This sandwich came with doorstep thick brown toasted bread. It was unyielding to the touch and would be impossible to get your mouth wide enough to bite into it. And as the crust was rock hard that would add to the difficulty. I opened my sandwich to dismantle it to try to eat it. The sausage inside had been split open to cook it and it was over cooked and dried out. The exciting sounding relish - wasn’t! Hugely disappointing for £9 and if I had served this at hime I would feel duty bound to apologise - but then I would have cooked it properly! Over priced and under delivered!!

Lovely food and drink in a beautiful location - sadly let down by extremely disorganized service. We arrived on time for our afternoon tea reservation but after asking to be shown to our table we then had to wait before we were even offered a tea or coffee. I went and asked if we needed to order at the till after 30 minutes - the tea didn't come for a further 15 minutes after that. In total we waited for 55-60 minutes after our arrival before the food arrived. We'd been forgotten about. The manager was lovely and apologetic - this wasn't her fault - she seemed to be the only one checking on tables and keeping an eye on which orders were actually being completed - the rest of the waiting staff seemed to not know which tables were which, forgot who had and hadn't been served, did not check the tables (we had no sugar) and spent a lot of time talking between each other at the tills, but didn't have a single word to say to customers. We had to remind the staff we were there twice - once when I went to go and see if we needed to order at the till, then again 10 minutes after this when we had still not even been served drinks. The food was delicious when it arrived and nicely presented - the menu wasn't entirely accurate (the jam is not "homemade" but is tiptrees in mini jars) and there were no options to choose what you would prefer on your tea service. Although the location and food were lovely, this was not at all the level of service you would expect for the price, thoroughly disappointing and ended my girlfriend's birthday outing on a very sour note.

It’s not often I’m left upset and angry when met with terrible service but this one feels like an exception. Took my mother and my wife here for afternoon tea as I bought it as a Christmas gift. We pre booked a table for 3pm and even followed up with an email acknowledging the booking and the ability to use our gift vouchers. Arrived on the day after viewing Burghley house (which is great by the way, you should check it out). It wasn’t too busy overall. However we struggled to get any member of staff to acknowledge us and when we finally did, the person I assume to be the manager was rude, sarcastic and far too flappy for my liking. The table wasn’t even ready and we had to stand around looking a little bit lost while it was prepared. Once the table was ready we had to show ourselves to it after being left standing around like idiots (I assume the table we sat at was the correct one anyway, no one told us) We were asked what we’d like to drink…seeing as we were there for afternoon tea…we all chose…you guessed it! TEA! Eventually some time in the distant future the tea finally arrived although you can tell the young boy wasn’t too happy about it. I think we lost half the pot to the tray he was carrying it on. Doesn’t matter though as we didn’t drink any of it due to what was clearly an unwashed teapot and a milk jug with some kind of crusty gravy looking stuff all over it. Another 10 minutes passed, my wife decided to ask about the situation. Do we order at the till? Do we wait longer for someone to come? How do we use the vouchers? Was anyone even aware of what we were there for based on our table booking? Even now I’m unsure! My wife was greeted by the same rudeness, the same sarcastic nature of the assumed to be manager who was still flapping around as if there were hundreds of people about (hardly) In the end we stood up and left. Shocking service. And questionable hygiene.

Burghley House is one of the very best stately homes in the country - in every aspect. Its treasures are better than so many of its peers and there's barely a square inch that's not adorned with some treasure. The condition of the estate, both inside the house and outside, is superb and the staff are so very knowledgeable. Even the products in the shop are excellent and fairly priced. So does this extend to the quality of the fare in the main restaurant - the Orangery? The answer is yes. The ultimate test of the kitchen and the chef has to be the freshness of fish. One item that we ordered was the cod loin, which I am so pleased to say, was cooked to perfection. You'd expect that in a fine dining restaurant in central London but it's particularly satisfying that this was also the case at the Orangery because it really did square the circle given how great the rest of Burghly House is.

Disappointing Again. Stopped off for coffee as I'm local to the area. Warm day so decided to sit outside in the beautiful garden (you have to get a table before ordering). On ordering my coffee, I was greeted by unenthusiastic staff. I asked for an extra hot cappuccino with skimmed milk and no chocolate sprinkles and was told 'yes, okay'. You guessed it, first the coffee arrived it had chocolate on it, second time it was luke warm and didn't appear to have skimmed milk in it! All catering at Burleigh House is run by Absolute Taste, which has a very good reputation so I'm very surprised by the poor service at Burleigh. The only saving grace is sitting outside in the garden, that's why I give it a high mark for atmosphere.

Very poor quality of food especially both the vegetarian dishes. In the name of mushroom meat balls, dish was served with 6 button mushrooms dripping in oil. Beetroot spread dry without anything to eat just for crazy decor. Dish described totally different to what was served. The cabbage rolls were some soggy cabbage leaves stuffed with rice served with cold noodles. Again dish not same as described Both dishes expensive and not worth the price. Total waste of money on food. Will never eat food at this restaurant. Possibly only worth tea and case. Even for that the service very slow.

I had afternoon tea at the Orangery with a big group of friends to celebrate a special birthday. The food was delicious and the staff went ‘above and beyond’ to make sure we had everything we needed, especially Siobhan and Miki. We even received takeaway boxes without asking for them. The highlight was being in a beautiful setting in the grounds of Burghley Estate.

Beautiful building and setting . Really poor service .Attended restaurant today with family .Ordered hot soup ,2 hot chocolates ,1 coffee and 2 pieces carrot cake . Restaurant Was not busy .Was told to take a table .Soup came within 10 minutes, nicely presented but tepid to the taste .Soup finished but coffee ,hot chocolate and carrot cakes not arrived . Meanwhile, 4 'posh' young staff members seemed to be having a good ol' chat at the counter .I returned to counter 25 minutes after placing order and reminded them of our drinks and cake .30 minutes later our drinks and cake eventually arrived . A very nice older lady served us with our coffees and she was most apologetic . Very disappointing visit .

Tried the sunday lunch. Young man who served it had no idea where to take it, then was rude and aloof when he found us. Seeing as we booked this should not have been difficult. Food was poor. Veg was not family service, even though 3 of us having roast dinner. Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes could shatter teeth. But the small amount of cold congealed gravy was the best. Menu is trying too hard, and the execution is laughable. On a brighter note, the cakes are lovely.

Had an afternoon tea booked via the website for a birthday. Arrived on the day to a very disappointing welcome. No staff to greet or welcome but had to join a busy queue at the counter. Had airport cafe vibes. Then noticed a reserved table right by the chaotic queue with our name on. We left knowing the service would be average and not special.

We always enjoy our visits to Burghley House. Unfortunately the service in the Orangery today was well below expected, apart from the young boy and girl serving our food. The rest of the staff behind the counter were obnoxious and very slow. Many tables around us felt the same way.

Unfortunately I can only offer 3 stars at this time because the experience was less than great. We felt rather unwelcome after heading to the coffee style bar to view cakes with the intention of picking them there, along with drinks and returning to our table. The manager was rather rude and flippant with us about us ordering at the cafe counter and honestly if I wasn't with a larger party I would've walked out then and there. The elderly waitress who served us was an absolute delight and I couldn't fault the food. A quiet little location, comfortable and cosy with expensive products that seems to want to choose its clientele.

Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Price For Food: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall the price of the food/drinks at The Orangery was good. Reasonably priced and the location given to us for the price was fantastic. Speed of Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ On this particular day the speed of service was fine. The main Front of House was fantastic in the way she seated us and the banter my party had with her flowed really well. However the wait for drinks was a little long and we had to ask 3 times to receive our jugs of water. Food Quality: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall quality of my food was extremely good. Receiving a little 3 tower for my afternoon tea was very good. My first experience of receiving one each was very much appreciated. Nice variety of flavours and combination of foods was amazing. Restaraunt Cleanliness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The overall cleanliness of the store was good. We sat outside but from what I saw when entering to pay was very hygienic and clean. AOB- I have no other business to add.

This pub has come a long way. It's a traditional pub which does some food but it is not the modern-day theme pub that is ‘dressed up to the nines’ and tries to be everything to everyone. A good selection of beers at reasonable prices and personable staff all helps. The atmosphere is positive and traditional and the two lads who run the pub work hard to keep it clean. The downside is not being able to take your dog into the pub now the autumn has arrived and the chain has stopped selling peanuts, a good seller I understand. Keep up the good work.

Four of us ate here in the restaurant. Starters wild mushrooms in cream/garlic on bread. Mains - gammon, braised beef, pork belly and fish and chips. Desserts apple and rhubarb crumble. The service was excellent and food hot and tasty. Excellent portions and well priced. Only one suggestion- the crumble top needed cooking/browning more. it was pale and tasted floury. Also be nice to have some background music as only a couple of tables occupied.
