The Regal - Wetherspoons in Cambridge

One star customer service Visited this spoons and ordered the Sticky Korean Chicken with fruit coolers. The drinks came out very quickly, the waitress didn’t even say anything just put them on the table and walked off. Around 15mins later our food arrived, again plonked on the table with not a word said, one of the dishes was cold. I went upto the bar, the barmaid ignored me so I had to say “excuse me this food we have been served is cold” her response “cold is it …!” Whilst rolling her eyes, I asked if I could have an apology the waitress said “sure” in a sarcastic reluctant tone and walked off. I complained to the deputy shift manager who was very apologetic and replaced the food and offered a complimentary dish on the house. Unfortunately the experience of this delightful waitress has put us off this spoons. Not 5* expected but manners cost nothing, it’s understandable sometimes food gets cold and things happen but to be so abruptly sarcastic and rude has put me off. Other reviews very similar.

Absolutely appalling. We went for breakfast & straight away things were not good. I had to force a good morning from the person taking orders behind the bar. Then the breakfast came out the toast was warm bread with no colour & the breakfast itself was cold as cold as the plate. Other members of our group had stomach pains afterwards. Service were clearly unhappy to be there.

This is a below average Spoons, we only popped in for a drink (Vodka and Cokes), staff were absolutely fine, but the mixer was poor quality, very weak and no fizz. Didn't eat here so can't comment on food. Biggest issue was the place stunk of smoke, so wherever the smoking area is it needs to be moved or at least make sure doors are closed. Roll on banning smoking in pub gardens.

Visiting a mate at the Cambridge Uni, never been to Cambridge before but there's ALWAYS a 'Spoons. Proceeded to use the app to order my usual (pint and a burger meal deal) I placed the order but needed to use the loo, I informed one of the servers behind the bar that I'd placed an order for my table and if the pint and or food arrived and I wasn't there, I was in the loo. (At this time it wasn't busy and it never got any more busier than when I first entered.) Got back from the loo and the table had been filled (4 top), went to the bar to let them know someone had sat on my table and if I could change my table and have my food sent there from the kitchen. The barman that served me (who also happened to be the same one I informed I'd placed an order but was about to use the loo) was quite churlish and moody, he seemed to be OK serving guests he served before and after me, though. He had to be reminded that he needed to pour me a pint to go with my meal, almost gave me a pint that had been started and sat by the taps for a good 5 minutes and then the pint he DID bring had been sat on the bar since I'd placed the order, (10+ minutes?) surely it should have been a fresh pint? He was also quite indignant in asking to see a receipt for the order placed though I think this more from a personal than professional place. I placed my order via the app at 13:24 as of writing this review I'd waited almost an hour for my meal and no sign of it. I'm from Leeds, originally and I've been frequenting Wetherspoon pubs almost as long as I've been a chef, just about 30 years. This is without a doubt the WORST service I've ever had in a Wetherspoon's pub. And so to compound and finish off the UKs best review of a Spoons Iwent to the bar to request a refund for the burger I didn't receive after waiting for an hour to be told (by someone that's was obviously a supervisor and not management), that I couldn't/wouldn't receive a refund because the burger had been sent out and returned while I was waiting in a queue to tell the server behind that bar that I was no longer at my table. He begrudgingly agreed to send out a fresh burger, rather than my receiving the burger originally ordered over an hour ago, and then to add insult to injury the burger STILL went to the wrong table when it eventually came out. If I'd been a mystery/secret shopper, this would have been low marks across the board, and that's before we even get into the state of some of the cubicles in the toilets so early on the day on a Sunday. I should make it VERY clear, I have no qualms about 'Spoons or the food, it is what it is, 2 stars is a standard. But it truly is some of the worst service I've ever received in a pub and I've spent a good 12 of my 30 years as a chef working in Gastropubs in London.

the place is comfortable and the food apcettable acceptable but the personal is rude and aggressive five guys is 10 times better dont recommend to my worst enemy

Is it worth reviewing a Spoon's? Aren't they all the same? No. They should be, but some branches deliver better than others. For me, on first visit, the Regal was one of the best I've been in. Despite being busy, the service was fast and friendly. They seemed fully staffed; and the tables were being cleared and cleaned quickly. The whole large venue seemed well cleaned. Wetherspoon, you have a good crew here!

Say what you will 'Widderspins' as my partner calls it is a winner. The Regal is a particularly big one and placed next to the Picturehouse is an ideal place for a drink or meal before or after a film. Service is fine and hey prices are very competitive. For example any two large glasses of wine here for the same price as one small one in the cinema. And there are plenty of deals on food. We are fans

Quite a large Wetherspoons so plenty of seats and you get a bit of space around you. Service at bar was a bit slow but had the pizza meal deal and it was good value for the money as always.
