We've eaten and stayed at the Olde Windmill 4 times and love it, its a proper pub, cosy, welcoming and traditional. This time I booked a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast deal, thinking it would be a better price, but I was a bit disappointed to be honest. There isn't really any saving by doing this, so I'm not sure why they offer it. My experience of D,B&B is the deal should at least give you a 2 course meal, with added supplements for the more expensive options, but this deal allows £20pp, which doesn't cover 2 courses unless you are happy with a burger or a salad, otherwise you will struggle to keep to the £20.00. There's no discount, which is a shame. Other than that, we love this place, the room was lovely and we had a great meal (although the red wine and mushroom sauce was a bit watery and tasteless). We will be back, but I certainly wouldn't go for the D,B&B unless it's worth having.

A lovely place, lovely people and dinner. The character of the place is great. Breakfast ok, shower ok but small if you are tall. A fan in the room would be great.

Without a doubt the worst lunch I’ve ever been served. I would have been embarrassed to serve that to someone. Ordered the burger as the menu was so extensive and I couldn’t choose what to have. My teenage son literally creased up with laughter when the waitress put my food on the table. Two burnt patties, no salad, garnish or pickles. The cheese had melted onto the plate. It was so dry. What a shame. I can only think that the chef wasn’t working that day as it really was dusgusting.

Decor is outstanding, service good, food absolutely terrible, over processed, not home made and seemingly microwaved. The kids pizza has never seen the inside of an oven and was as tough as an old boot. Chewy over cooked burger with rubber cheap cheese that you weren’t able to cut with a knife and fork yet the bacon on the burger was under cooked. And side salad with piles of cress circa 1970’s could do with being updated. And please cut the mayo in the coleslaw by half at least Maybe get a cook in to design a cook a menu with 6 mains done brilliantly and not do a the menu (currently 4 pages of options) all done badly

Spent three nights at this inn and what a pleasant choice we made. Peaceful surroundings and very quaint. The inn was spotlessly clean throughout. Made welcome by all members of staff who were polite and friendly. Nice bedroom and the food available from the menus was more than adequate.. A good selection of drinks in the bar and a garden if you fancy it. I would not hesitate to recommend The Olde Windmill Inn

Having visited the Olde Windmill on several occasions over the last 10 years, our most recent visit was very disappointing. The pub itself inside although still charming with all it's nooks & crannies is looking very tired & about time someone updated some of the noticeboards in the hallways that have outdated posters from the height of Covid on. Our meal was mediocre to say the least - 'mashed' potato with great big lumps of potatoes in & extremely heavy on the black pepper! A Beef & Rosemary Pie that was basically beef, mushrooms, carrots in a very thin gravy in a dish with a piece of only just cooked very pale puff pastry jauntily angled over the top - if you're going to essentially 'deconstruct' a pie at least have a decent gravy & a properly cooked pastry lid to it!! Peas that were really hard & tasteless. Hubby's 'mashed' potato was exactly the same - great big lumps of potato, some of it only just cooked & extremely heavy on the black pepper, hard & tasteless peas, hus gravy was at least nice & thick & he said the sausages were ok. Ultimately, it was a very disappointing mediocre meal that was certainly not worth what was charged for it. So disappointing when the food here used to always be so good, we won't be rushing back.

Having visited in a number of occasions over the past thirty years, I recommended this place to friends for a for us meal. The food was average and dare I say tasteless. It was not as flavoursome as in previous visits. We had a sauce and if I didn’t know the flavour before, I’d never have known it when on my food. The service was average but staff were attentive, if a tad forgetful. The place itself was clean and its higgledy piggledy layout of rooms is charming. We only ate in the restaurant so cannot comment of accommodation. Ample parking.

The pub is awesome with all its paintings and old photos showing the history of the area. The food is very nice too. There’s plenty of parking front and rear. The staff are very helpful and pleasant and always there to help. Totally enjoyed our stay here will come again in the future. Prices are very reasonable. A beautiful place to stay and the village is just down the road, lovely surroundings and even children’s play area. It’s got the lot. 🇦🇺

Breakfast was fine, although the coffee could have been a bit better. I would certainly stay here again.

We stayed for 3 nights B&B very good value - we ate in the pub on our first night, usual pub food selection, good value and generous portions. Pub is ‘quirky’ lots of memorabilia/old trinkets - seemed to be lots of flys around which were annoying. Rooms were large, bed was lovely and comfy good quality linens and towels. Carpet was stained and grubby but otherwise room seemed reasonably clean, shower worked well. Tea tray/kettle everything we needed - I would say the whole place could do with a bit of an upgrade/decorating/tlc - Staff were all very friendly and welcoming. All in all an enjoyable stay good value for money.

Stayed the the olde windmill for 7 nights. The staff when we checked in were lovely and check in was really easy. Myself and my colleague checked out our rooms, looked at his first, number 11. Lovely! Then mine, number 15, mine was lovely, like a flat, had a kitchen, sitting room, bathroom and large bedroom. We were chuffed there was a fridge and microwave we could share. However…. The floor is very thin and the pub directly below. Tuesday nights are live music night and boy can you hear it! So noisy! I could hear everyone talking in the pub all week and then the next Tuesday night we swapped rooms. If you’re not bothered by loud music or talking then this apartment bit is perfect but I was there for work and was getting grumpier by the day. It’s lovely, a bit tired, curtains falling off the rail and bits and bobs like that. I would stay again but definitely not in that room unfortunately.

I rarely write such critical reviews but we were gobsmacked at just how bad the service here was. I can't really comment on the food because we never received any but from what we saw coming out of the kitchen it looked like quantity over quality. So this review is for the service we received which was frankly awaful. We booked the day before and our booking was confirmed over the phone. Upon arrival we tols them we'd pre-booked and even pointed out that we haven't dined there before so weren't sure of there ordering procedure, etc.... The lady who we spoke to tried to look up our booking but couldn't find it. She then proceeded to repeatedly ask us if we had phoned up earlier that day, to which we repeatedly said no, we phoned up yesterday. The impression we got is that they has perhaps cancelled our booking in error when someone else phoned to cancel their booking, but that is just a guess. She then proceeded to check through a second book and this time found a reference to our booking and commented something along the lines of "oh, it was actually me that you spoke to but somebody hasn't written the booking down".... and from that point on we were just treated like a walk-in customer. Told to find our own table, no effort made to rectify their mistake and allocate a table for us.So we ordered drinks from the bar (large glass of red wine which i think was around £7, far more expensive than most pubs in the area, and a pint of diet coke which was over an inch short of the pint mark).Found ourselves a table....no menu's....but we thought they'd probably be long with them in minute or two...5 minutes later still nothing, totally forgotten about it seems. So I went in search of some menus and fortunately found some up by the bar.We decided what we wanted and again waited for someone to come and take our order...and waited...and waited...and waited...Then we noticed in the small print it said for walk in customers to order at the bar....We assumed as we'd pre-booked that we would get table service, nobody had said otherwise and there was nothing mentioned elsewhere that we could see. We saw another table having an order taken for their dessert so gave them a few more minutes.....still nothing. So i went up to order at the bar only to be told it would be at least a 30 minute wait for food! Bearing in mind we were hungry, had been totally disregarded by the staff and had already been waiting over half an our we decided to cut our losses and leave.. They didn't even offer an apology...Positively the worst establishment we have had the misfotune of visitng! Never again!

Tasteless unseasoned vegtables and listless flavourless meat. The only bright point was the chippolata which tasted lovely. The gravy while was watery and full of vegetable water flecks. Two crumbles were ordered and these were satisfactory but nothing special, the chocolate brownie however was delicious but having to continually swipe away flies really dampened the mood even more. Both cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. We love this place as it’s really nice home cooked food and the atmosphere is exactly that of a village pub. We will definitely return and this time I will book to get a table in the restaurant for a change. Thank you to all your staff for a very chilled enjoyable evening

Went with friends for someone's birthday and as there were 9 of us and Sunday Lunch, the service was slightly slow. The food had good sized portions, lots of choice and quite well cooked. Would like to go again sometime to try more of the menu and get a better idea of what they can offer. The place has character.

This was our first visit and we weren't disappointed. We had researched the pub well and found we had a warm welcome upon arriving. We found the service to be very good. There was no rush with our dining experience and felt we could enjoy our meal. We sat in a quiet area of the pub and this suited our needs as we like to enjoy our meal without too much noise. The food was fantastic and plenty of it, big portions and adequately priced. The whole dining experience was brilliant, polite and helpful staff

We have been visiting The Olde Windmill for over a decade and have never been disappointed. Traditional pub, gorgeous garden, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and fabulous rooms for that well-deserved mini break. The food is absolutely wonderful with incredible vegetarian options. We had our wedding breakfast here after our intimate ceremony and it was just the most perfect afternoon, then we spent our wedding night here in a lovely room with a great breakfast the next morning - we returned for our first anniversary this year and it was every bit as special as we remembered. Amazing place!

We stopped here on our way back to Hertfordshire, we thought the place was very charming, with lots of character. The staff were both welcoming and friendly. I just had ham egg and chips but it was great, good quality ingredients. My girlfriend had the steak hoagie and it was huge!! Was all quality though, the meat was very tender. Our only regret is neither of us could manage a desert!!!

We stopped at this pub on our travels and had a very friendly reception. We enquired as to whether they were dog friendly and were told where all the dog friendly areas where. The landlady was very chatty and helpful and told us about the daily specials. I had the steak hoagie which was huge and so tasty and my parter had the ham, egg and chips. The eggs must have been very local and were a beautiful colour. Defiantly not supermarket eggs and it made a simple dish really yummy. Would certainly recommend this place.

We have recently moved into the area and visited the Olde Windmill Inn on a Saturday afternoon in the hope of finding a lovely gastro pub that we could adopt as a local. The inn was very busy and the food looked to be reasonable. However, after ordering drinks at the bar, I found some seating in the snug and was told in no uncertain terms that the seating was reserved for regulars only. There was no-one else in the snug except for the barman!! The theory I understand, but there was no excuse for delivering the message in such a rude manner. I will not be visiting again.

Unfortunately we only stayed for one night so only had a evening meal and breakfast. I am looking forward to going back later in the year. We had a starter from the specials menu and a main from the usual menu. Both were very enjoyable, as was the wine. the service was swift without being rushed and the staff were very friendly and polite. I would happily eat here everyday but my waist line would not enjoy it. Too many delicious dishes makes for difficult choices but what a problem to have. Delightful. Many thanks

A great building with a great garden and spacious car car park. A cosy pub bar area with numerous great beers on tap, we have been here twice now over the 2017/2018 period for dinner. The food is varied, well priced, very much up to spec and the portions generous. The staff are friendly, engaging and attentive. I can not recommend this pub enough!

Stayed at one of the two small caravan sites adjoining this lovely pub. Service is superb and staff are very attentive and responsive. Food is very good with plenty of local touches. Drinks are well kept and the great range of real ales and malts! No wonder it attracts people from the wider local area!

We were invited here for a big family celebration. There were approx 20 of us including small children. The decor is old fashioned cozy country pub, with a burning fire near the bar. The menu had a huge selection to choose from. The service was very good, all orders taken and head count was done several times then all food came out within in 5 minutes of each others. I have been places where you had to wait longer for a table of 4! Everyone was very impressed with the food and quality of service. I would highly recommend trying this pub. There are quiet little nooks if you just want to go there for a drink.

Visited recently for the first time in a couple of years. Friendly family pub which has been revamped since my last visit with a new conservatory. Good selection of beers as always. Service was also attentive and friendly. Was a bit disappointed with the food however. Although there was a lot of it the batter on my fish was a bit overcooked for my liking. Perhaps their menu is just a bit too big.

To celebrate our civil partnership and my 85th birthday we invited 28 friends from our village to a buffet evening at the George Hotel. They deserve praise for the wonderful selection of food, reasonably priced, the service by the staff and the help and professionalism of Roxi the General Manager. Thanks to them it was an evening to remember forever.

Went as a group of 6 for a carvery lunch. The carvery was terrible, shrivelled up dry meat, everything was cold. When complained told I had no right too because someone else on the table had finished theirs and that I should of complained at the start even though I hadnt eaten it. Will definitely give this place a wide berth in future

We had a poor experience from the moment we walked in. The waitress was rude as we sat down. We didn’t get menus or our drinks order taken for 20 minutes. When our food arrived we instantly realised there were issues. I got the roast turkey but had no roast potatoes. I did flag this and the waitress got me some. My partner ordered beef Bourguinon which was listed as coming with butter mash but it didn’t have any potato on the plate and instead came with roast dinner trimmings. My friends had burgers and chips which looked so sad on the plate. Another waitress who served them even said ‘sorry these don’t look very appealing’! They tasted like a cheap Spoons meal for double the price. We told the original waitress the issues when she came to clear the plates and she didn’t care and didn’t even apologise. Overall it was a really disappointing experience.
