Arrived without a reservation, we were offered a choice of tables, served drinks and given a menu. The Staff were attentive and very pleasant, the food was excellent and the service faultless. Little touches like a jug of water and two glasses delivered to the table without us having to ask. Will certainly return in the near future.

Walked in for lunch on a Saturday. The young person (unsure of pronouns) serving at the bar was kind and efficient. There were very few vegan options on the menu and they were all pretty pricey. I opted for the vegan burger at £16, which was described as a mushroom and red pepper burger. I assumed this would be a patty but it was literally two mushrooms and two slices of roasted red pepper in a bun with some melted vegan cheese (which wasn’t listed on the menu and I would’ve opted not to have if given the option). I only had a couple of bites of the not-burger, so essentially ended up paying £16 for a side of chips. Could’ve done with a bit of salad. A disappointing meal and this pub needs to join the 21st century when it comes to plant-based menu items.

Went to this hotel to eat, not expecting much as the outside looks a little time-worn and could do with brightening up with hanging baskets. That is the reason for 4 stars rather than 5. Inside, the hotel is lit in a subdued manner which is oddly welcoming. We were greeted promptly and politely. The menu was pretty extensive but not massively expensive. The food was excellent and served by polite efficient staff. The wine was good too! The food and service was so good we went there twice whilst on a short break in Norfolk. The people, chef and waiters, make this place! Very well worth a visit!

We were touring the area and wanted somewhere to eat and found this establishment. There's a main menu or a two course set menu Mon - Thurs for £15. We chose the latter. We opted for Haddock & Chips. The batter was good, and crunchy, the chips chunky and crisp. I had a delicious Chocolate Bailey creme brulee for afters and my husband had the chocolate brownie. The portions were generous. The staff were welcoming and friendly. There were plenty of tables to choose from. Parking is a bit quirky as it's an odd shaped car park and could be tricky if full.

We popped in rather late on a Sunday hoping for some food and our wishes were met even though the time was almost passed for serving. Thankyou to the staff for that! Food and service was lovely, as it was hot we didn’t fancy a full on roast dinner so settled for ciabatta rolls with roast beef, salad and chips, it was absolutely delicious! The rolls were bursting with tender beef! Not just a single slice as some places serve. The beer garden is extremely spacious with a play area for the children. Both shaded and sunny tables available too. 10/10 will definitely be returning.

Having previously visited when the pub was under different ownership/management my friend and I were keen to give it another go and wowzers what a difference….! Firstly the place looks amazing, tastefully decorated with interesting prints etc on the walls and big leather chairs, I’d imagine it’s super cosy in the winter. The menu was a mix of “pub grub” (with a modern approach) and more refined dishes, all using local produce. My friend and I went all out with 3 courses and none disappointed, delicious from start to finish with generous portion sizes that are beautifully presented and excellent value. The highlight was the lemon curd cheesecake….stunning! My only tiny and it is tiny criticism was the manager, who although very accommodating was at times a bit awkward/defensive. I know they had a big table dining in the garden and perhaps staff were stretched. It really was the only “smudge” on a truly lovely evening and certainly won’t deter a return visit! The Kings Head has certainly has raised its game and put itself into the arena with other local more well known pubs. PS: the gin menu is impressive!!!

The Kings Head Hotel3nights May 29th to 1st JuneOn arrival to the hotel we were welcomed by a friendly receptionist who checked us in and gave us our room key. We opened our room up and my first impression was how fresh and clean the room was. A huge king-sized bed topped off with a fluffy white cotton covered duvet and a pile of soft white pillows, promised a good night's sleep. The bathroom comprised a modern walk in shower with drench and hand shower, wash hand basin with tasteful illuminated mirror, spotlessly clean basin and stainless mixer tap. Nice clean and modern water closet and a heated towel radiator draped with pure white fluffy cotton towels. Being the hottest May weekend on record, I turned the heated radiator off. Tired from my long journey I made ready for bed. I flicked through a few of the channels on the Blaupunkt TV and then went to sleep. I woke the next morning convinced I had been floating on clouds. One of the best nights sleep I have had in ages. I made good use of the drenching shower as the gratis body and hair shower gel, made loads of foam due to the crystal clear soft water. The taps were easy to control and I was soon dry with the huge white bath sheet. The blackout drapes had done their job well, as I was bathed in bright early morning sunshine when I pulled them back, no need for eye mask in this room. Refreshed and dressed I made my way over to the Hotel dining room. It was magnificent with a high ceiling and plenty socially distanced tables of capacity from two to six seats. I was welcomed and offered the window seated table so I could take in the view of the beer garden and kiddies play area. Breakfast was a choice of continental or full English, I opted for the latter. Fresh coffee brewed in a cafetier at the table, hot toast and real butter. The breakfast platter comprised cured bacon, sausage, baked beans, mushroom (portobello field mushroom) grilled tomato, hash brown and scrambled egg. I was informed that everything on the plate is locally sourced. It was truly scrumptious. A shame to leave the last slice of wholemeal toast, I buttered it up and had blackberry jam. I nearly missed my glass of orange juice, but managed to wash the toast crumbs down. I asked if I might have another cup of coffee and two minutes later I was presented with a second fresh full piping hot cafetiere of coffee. Not being in any rush I sat and enjoyed my coffee while I watched the local bird life in the garden. I wasn't rushed or fussed over with breakfast, it was perfect in presentation and taste. Lucky me I had booked Sunday Lunch, for later in the day. The dining room also shared floor space with the bar, of which there was plenty. Again socially distanced tables. Our meals were cooked to order and each serving was a gourmets delight. My partner chose scallops starter and sea bass main. My parents had kofta lamb kebabab on flatbread with tatziki sauce and a plate of cheesy nachos with guacamole and syracha salsa dips, both followed with roast topside of beef and Yorkshire puddings and a medley of roast vegetables and a cauliflour in white sauce. I settled on a Haddock in beer batter with hand cut chips. It was a generous piece of delicious hot crispy battered fish, enough for two servings. At this time I was too full to engage with the dessert menu, but I have made a mental note to come to the table hungry next time. We stayed till the Bank Holiday traffic was past. I was delighted with my stay here, the ambience, the friendly and obliging staff, the beautiful surroundings and the little piece of heaven sleeping so well in that room in that huge and comfy bed. I have decided to come back again and indulge myself in another stay. Would I recommend? Absolutely

We’ve just returned from three days at The Kings Head having had a fabulous break and excellent service throughout our stay. We were in room 12 across car park not in main building but a lovely modern recently decorated room, with en-suite, good towels and robes etc. We had our first evening meal and subsequently decided to use the restaurant for all three nights, an easy choice and not deterred by what was a limited menu due to limitations of coronavirus pandemic. In this respect high levels of cleanliness, masks and hand sanitation all required and observed. The staff were all courteous and welcoming, the manager at breakfast and Justine whilst serving the meals in the evening and engaging in conversation over the three days. We will certainly return when next visiting Norfolk, and look forward to enjoying a pint of Ghost Ship and a Prosecco or two at this lovely hotel. Lawrence and Suzanne. Hertfordshire

Staff were in close proximity to each other, touching each other and ignoring the one way system. Members of the public were loitering at the bar and standing very close to each other and also ignoring the one way system. We sat down in the ‘waiting area’ and our drinks were served to us.Shortly after our arrival another couple with a 19:30 booking arrived. After about 10 minutes a couple vacated a table and the couple who arrived after us were seated.I then asked for menus so that we could choose our food.At 19:50-19:55 8 further customers arrived - a party of 4 and 2 parties of 2 with 20;00 reservationsI asked when we would be seated and was assured we hadn’t been forgottenHowever, at 20:10 the 2 parties of 2 with 20:00 reservations were seatedIt was obvious we had been forgottenAt this point I left money on the bar to pay for our drinks and we walked outThe poor customer service spoilt what we hoped would be an enjoyable meal out and with no time to eat at another similar restaurant. We stayed in one of the rooms off the main building. The room was fairly small and needed a better clean in my opinion. The Wi-fi didn’t work whilst we were there and if you’re on EE there is no phone signal. We stayed for three days so having none of the above for that length of time was quite a bit of a nightmare. Especially when I needed to make or receive an import call/deal with work related issues. There is nothing nearby either. The staff are all really nice and very helpful and the food is great. Had our monthly lunch meeting friends here yesterday. We had a first class meal, My wife and our lady friend had the Bass. My wife and her friend said it was perfectly cooked, and was absolutely delicious. It was served with Norfolk asparagus and that made a really super lunch. Her only complaint she could have eaten double the amount of Bass it was so good. I had a rump steak which is a real change for me. It was cooked exactly as I like it and it was juicy and delicious. Our male friend had an amazing steak and ale pie. it was full of meat and lots of gravy. All in all this was a very very good meal. We came out of the hotel well satisfied.

I went to this Restaurant twice last week, once in the evening when both chefs had called in sick so the manager was in the kitchen but not cooking for residentsand once at lunchtime when I could only have a sandwich,

Had to stay here for a wedding, the room was nice although the bathroom was left out of the cleaning so we had someone's dirty flannel and hairs in the shower along with toothpaste in the sink, didn't realise the sink was dirty until 10pm and then saw the shower the next morning.

Very friendly and efficient. Relaxed service. Nice beer. Good food well priced. Recommend home made tartare sauce. Nachos starter very nice and large! Comfortable rooms (we were in 9). Guest WiFi actually works even in the loft and the front beer garden. Ignore old reviews. Recommend

Very good restaurant at very reasonable prices. Staff very friendly and efficient. Each night there were 'specials' available. A good range of gluten free meals were also available each night.

The room was very comfortable, clean and tidy. The staff are friendly, plenty of parking and well placed for visiting North Norfolk. Breakfast is good with choice of full English and/or continental style. The restaurant is good, serving a variety of choices.

I was staying in the hotel and chose to eat in the restaurant. Service was very friendly. A wide range of choices available on the menu. I chose the pie from the specials board which came with four different vegetables and chips. Very tasty and I would definitely return if staying in the area again.

Since writing my last review about the Elmham Kings Head which was far from a good one the place has changed hands so I thought it only fair to write another review. We visited for dinner on a mid week day so as expected it was rather quiet and lacked a little atmosphere, I guess its far better on a weekend. Lovely woodburner chugging away gave the room a nice warm feeling. My partner and I both had different dishes and both were lovely. The staff are very friendly and chatty and I have to say that I'm glad to be able to change my opinion and give a good review of the place.

Met with ten friends for Christmas lunch. Roast turkey main served on cold plates but warned to be careful as they were very hot. Meat and roast potatoes served lukewarm but sausage was hot! Sprouts, carrots and red cabbage all lukewarm. Please - if food is supposed to be hot, please serve it so!

Not the first time witha group for our festive meal. Disappointed both with the food and the service this time. Smaller portions. The roast potatoes weren't cooked. The miniscule pieces of parsnip were like rubber or burnt to a crisp. Previous years plates etc. have been cleared and the next course brought immediately, but this year we waited quite a while. This could have been because there wer none of the old waitresses on duty. I understand the business has changed hands this year. A pity standards have dropped.

We were staying in accommodation close by and the owners had provided us with a menu from the Kings Head. The choices looked great so we booked a table. However, when we arrived, which was Friday night at 7.00, the dining room was empty and there were only four people sitting at the dining tables in the bar area. Being empty with quite bare dark furnishings there was no atmosphere at all. The pleasant waitress gave us the menu but, unfortunately, it was totally different from the one we had seen. We were told it had changed the previous Monday. The choice was disappointing and not to our taste so we left without eating.

I’m local to the kings Head and I have been a regular in the pub for a number of years now and have seen lots of great changes to the pub. The food has always been really good and I have eaten in the restaurant a number of times. Home cooked, fresh and of good quality. The Atmosphere of the place is where the problem is. Some staff are rude not only to each other (in-front of customers) but to the customers themselves, I must say this isn’t everyone that works there as most of the staff are friendly it’s down to a few individuals. It is common knowledge within the village that this is the reason a large number prefer to use the other pub because of the attitude and actions of certain members of staff, myself included. It’s a real shame that a great pub with lots of potential can let itself down with such a glaring problem.

Very good service, attentive but not a pest. Carvery was excellent, veg wasn't mush, good choices available. All starters were very good. 4 starters and carvery, two beers, premium lager, large merlot and a g&t; £68. Very enjoyable experience, we'll go again 👍

Sunday Lunch for 5 as a last minute idea, we decided to go local. Despite living less than 10 miles from Great Hockham, I had never been to the village and a charming place it turned out to be. The food was traditional pub grub and the portions huge. Service was great and friendly and the meals fantastic. Unfortunately due to a upcoming holiday to Portugal we were all not drinking bar one of our number but we will make up for that at our next visit as there was a good choice of ale, which the locals seemed happy with! Well worth a look!

It was probably my first visit to a UK pub or restaurant in over 20 years & also in my 1970s home village. Table booked by a Norfolk friend, purely based on Google recommendation, to follow a burial service in village church. It was midday Wednesday & only two people, so booking was not necessary. Entire experience was 1st class. Ver friendly, just right degree of service perfectly judging the time but also very honest on recommendations for food & drink, both of which were excellent & for reasonable prices. After the meal, invited to sit in the comfortable sofas around the fire next to the bar. Being a quiet, mid-week day, which though suited us well, I can't judge the atmosphere too well, but having been taken on a quick tour of the building, I can imagine it's a fabulous place when full of life. Highly recommended & big Dankeschön for brightening up an otherwise sombre day. Maybe I'll be back next year to try out the Biergarten! Prost🍺
