We stopped in for dinner. The food was delicious and the ambiance was cozy and relaxing . We had the Hunter’s Chicken and the Beef and Ale Pie as well as desert. As with most great experiences, it’s the service that makes it and The Bell Hotel staff was courteous and gracious. Sarah was so kind. Thank you for a great memory!

First time visiting as not long moved to the area. Booked a table, was on a date! Not having been before did not know where to go once inside. Went to the bar where was met in an unfriendly and very unhelpful manner. Told restaurant area was closed as catering for a party so could sit in bar area or lounge. No assistance in finding the lounge area. Ambience was non existent and after the greeting decided to leave! Definitely very poor impression given and highly doubt I'll go back again!! Went on to enjoy an amazing meal at another restaurant in the town, staff very attentive, welcoming and friendly!! They saved the night!

We had a poor experience from the moment we walked in. The waitress was rude as we sat down. We didn’t get menus or our drinks order taken for 20 minutes. When our food arrived we instantly realised there were issues. I got the roast turkey but had no roast potatoes. I did flag this and the waitress got me some. My partner ordered beef Bourguinon which was listed as coming with butter mash but it didn’t have any potato on the plate and instead came with roast dinner trimmings. My friends had burgers and chips which looked so sad on the plate. Another waitress who served them even said ‘sorry these don’t look very appealing’! They tasted like a cheap Spoons meal for double the price. We told the original waitress the issues when she came to clear the plates and she didn’t care and didn’t even apologise. Overall it was a really disappointing experience.

Stopped at the bell for many weeks on and of whilst working away from home and must say how homely the staff made our stay feel, a massive thank you to Rachel especially for making us feel so welcomed and relaxed during our stays at the hotel, she truly went above and beyond of us and made sure we were comfortable and happy and couldn’t do enough for us and was always making us laugh and making our time at the bell as enjoyable as possible, shes a star and a true credit to the bell hotel. If you didn’t know any different you would think she was the manager the way she dealt with any queries or problems we had straight away with no hassle or fuss and was happy to do so. Looking forward to our next say at the bell in a couple weeks, many thanks Aaron from Huntapack

The hotel is well positioned in Thetford and easy to get to. Lots of parking. The staff have always been very nice and their breakfast is lovely. The problem for me, and my work colleagues, is the rooms. I have stayed in one of the large rooms with a balcony and a decent TV and that was not too bad. Albeit the bidet was covered in a strange green slime that looked liked years of limescale, and it didn't work. But other than it looking very tired and dated it was not too bad. I have however also stayed in one of the smaller double rooms, and that was terrible. The furniture was out of the 70s, and looked like it was that old, and the room looked like it hasn't seen any decoration for at least 10 years. Paint and paper peeling, mould patches on the wall, even stuck on tiles in the bathroom peeling away. The metal sash style window was open at the top letting in both sounds and cold air. The gap was covered in cobwebs so I assume that it's been like that for some time. I couldn't close it so asked for help from reception. A staff member also had a go but had to leave it in the end. It was stuck solid. So I found some tape in the end to seal it off for the night. The TV was an old basic SD TV which in fact didn't work when I turned it on. I found that the aerial cable was broken and was just hanging from the back of the set. I managed to get it working. The 'Beware Hot Towel Rail' was stone cold, so the bathroom was a bit chilly. The bed was comfy though and there were biscuits provided with the tea and coffee, so that side was okay. The whole building though needs redecorating. I have to wonder how they can charge over £100 a night. The money certainly isn't going into the upkeep of the hotel.

Not worthy of a three star rating. Been in better b and bs for half that price. Place is tired and in need of refresh through out. No restaurant in the evening for the duration of the stay. All these issues have been raised by previous customers going back years in your reviews, and nothing seems to have come of it. If it wasn't for the fact that our group was meeting up and having a pleasant couple of days and evening together this would have overshadowed the weekend. Three weeks have passed since the initial post and no one is either concerned or bothered to reply to my previous comments , this is obviously an indictment of their lack of care , concern or professionalism. .More then two months have past and I still find that no one has yet bothered either to read or respond to me initial and secondary comments. 18 monthes have passed since our group stay,, and I've just checked to see if things have improved, the company must be so proud that my initial comments and supplementary comments months later have pride of place on the view site and have still not after more then 600 days been responded to or challenged. Says it all. A further group reunion is currently in the works and .my hope is we find suitable accomadation elsewhere.

Green King you really should not be letting rooms in the state that they are regardless of price. The Bell promises so much..a 15 century coaching that should ooze character and charm. But instead you are directed to an ugly 1970s extension where the rooms have changed little since the 70s. Bathroom from that era. Windows not closing, handles missing. A bath so stained I wouldn't want to wash my feet in. This is hostel standard and you are doing your business no favours by offering this. See photos. You need to start investing Green King to bring things up to a half decent standard.

One month later we have recied a parking fine for £100! So please be careful if anyone is in the area or staying in this hotel and is intending to use this carpark. Very disappointed!

There isn't a lot that's unique about this pub inside a hotel, though the food is fine and the decor is authentic. 30th Novemeber '23 on Google it said £80 for a room. When I got there it was £99. It was early evening and I was hungry so I reluctantly agreed believing that a fairly luxurious room in a hotel would compensate for the high price tag I was paying on a work day. The room was like an early-1980s council flat. A broken, ill-fitting single pain window with a single panel radiator left the pokey, tired-looking room freezing cold. Everything was yellow and brown and smelled stale. The worst thing was the bathroom (see photos). A grubby shower curtain hanging from a rusty pole protected the tiny bathroom from the so-called shower - a cheap dirty hose barely clinging on to the wall by a couple of screws, hanging over a thin, dated bath. The water ran warm for about two minutes and then ran freezing cold. The pressure wasn't even enough to project the water from the hoze (see video). I had a freezing cold shower and went downstairs to complain. The huge queue at reception resigned me to complain by email to Greene King instead. I sent an email to Greene King over a month ago and they haven't even bothered to reply. I would never stay at this hotel or any Greene King hotel again. Total rip-off.

We went to the bell for our new years eve meal. Firstly, it's all very unorganised when we got there, with where we had to go, ended up going back and forth. When we arrived in the restaurant, again very unorganised, nothing to say 'please wait here to be seated' and none of the waiting staff paid much attention, till eventually I managed to catch someone. They then just casually pointed the direction of our table, NOT even showing us to our table. We sat down and within a few mins our starter was put infront of us - no asking if we were ready...no asking if we wanted a drink. After the starter we then queried about the 'welcome processco' in which was advised with the NYE meal...we then got told that would be at midnight - which is ridiculous, as it was called a 'welcome processco', and people who had earlier tables booked, surely would not be hanging around till midnight? As some tables were for 5 and 6 o clock - even like ourselves at 8:30, we were not going to be sitting there till midnight - the waitress then spoke to a manager and we did get our processco, after politely complaining. All of it was very unorganised, and the customer service was not good. The restraunt also did not look like it was for a new years eve meal, nothing special in the decoration. The crackers and poppers etc were a nice touch, and some good music. Some of the food was lovely and very good but the evening was not worth what we paid. The experience ruined our new years eve, and we won't be coming back, which is a shame as we are local. And to top it off, I have emailed The Bell directly about our experience, but I've had no response.

Although the decor has perhaps seen better days, the food was superb. First visit for Sunday lunch and was amazed to find the restaurant virtually empty, and it stayed that way. We had tried to book our usual haunts but they were full. I can honestly say that the food was a mile better for a tiny amount more. Rachel was great, even when left with sweetcorn strewn across the carpet by our toddler ( we did ask for a dustpan and brush but she said she would take care of it). Upon arrival we was wondering where the restaurant was, I asked a member of Staff who took us to a table for two, the table had only one chair, so I had to fund another in the restaurant. Once we finally managed to seat ourselves, a member of staff presented us with two sheets of A4 paper with the menu printed on, we chose our meal after being told what we couldn't have from the menu, so orded the prawncocktail each , but when it arrivescomparedto the other table that had the prawncocktail ours eas noticeablysmaller, turns out they ran out of prawns. . So both chose the trio of roasts at £15.50 in honesty I found the dinner OK, we also asked for two more drinks, we waited half an hour for the drinks to arrive, so I went up and asked the staff team if we could have our drinks and was told quite abruptly, they are on the way. So wait another ten minutes then the drinks turned up. All in all for £75 I don't think it's worth it, the furniture is tired and dated . Staff polite ish but service very slow and and with no urgency, we even had to go up and ask for our bill , as was left just sitting there with finished plates . Would I go again NO, which is a shame as i was expecting good things from the restaurant. Hope this review helps someone who is looking for a meal, and for the price I give it 4/10

We will not be returning. I have written a good review previously for The Bell's restaurant, but after our experience this week, I need to write another, but to complain about the tardiness of the service. In the end we asked for a refund as our mains arrived over an hour after ordering the meal and then my dish was not what I had asked for. We were the only people eating there and it took over an hour for our mains to arrive because the kitchen were preparing a buffet for a corporate!! Why could not the buffet have been prepared in advance and why keep the only two customers in the restaurant waiting for so very long? Says it all. What must be going on in the kitchen? Lauren behind the bar was on her own. She disappeared for long periods so that customers who wished for a drink could not order. One person stood there for about 15 minutes. I would have walked out. The whole episode was an absolute farce and in the end we walked out too.

We stopped for a meal on our way home from Norfolk. Some items were not available which was understandable on Bank Holiday Monday evening, however, what we had was not worth the money and did not live up to the menu’s description. Firstly, I had king prawn and avocado cocktail with Bloody Mary sauce; the prawns were cold, flabby and tasteless. Really not sure why this should be served with toasted sourdough (with no butter). The very friendly waitress came to let me know that scallops, which were to be in my risotto, were unavailable and would I like prawns as a substitute. To this I replied no because the ones I was eating were tasteless. She kindly offered to get me something else so I had breaded mushrooms-these were very hard on the outside and rather puny on the inside. The substitute for the risotto an “award winning’ pie with mash and seasonal veg had, I believe, been microwaved as it was tough, rather like cardboard, on the outside and soggy on the inside. The mash was solid which left the veg being the best part of the plate. I don’t expect cordon bleu dining from a ‘pub’ meal but I do expect it to be palatable and worth the money. My suggestion would be to reduce the choice of items on the menu so that relief kitchen staff can thoroughly know what they are producing. Sorry Bell we won’t be back to eat. Full marks to your waiting staff, though.

We visited The Bell Hotel for an evening meal because my stepson and his partner had a dog so we needed somewhere dog-friendly. We called in earlier in the day to enquire about dogs and they couldn't have been more helpful. We actually sat outside in the garden area in the evening. They were very busy so we had to wait to place our food order but, once ordered, it seemed no time at all until the food arrived - and it was very, very nice indeed! I and my stepson had Hunter's Chicken and salad and it was cooked to perfection. They also had Old Speckled Hen on draught so my husband was happy! A very nice meal and an enjoyable evening. We would certainly go to The Bell Hotel again.

I was so looking forward to having Christmas dinner with my family. The starter was dried out salmon with burnt bubble and squeak. We had to wait an hour for the main which was unrecognised as food, swamped in a disgusting gravy and another hour...

Went to the pub area for lunch today. Vinny was lovely, as indeed were the two other members of staff with whom we spoke. It wasn't at all busy, which is a shame, but understandable with the recent Omicron variant and new rules for wearing...

Went in on a Tuesday night, very quiet. They didn’t have everything on the menu but what we did have was nice. Server Vinny was very nice and managed the room on her own.

This place had really nice staff, food looked great but as our stay was aimed at going to the Spa at centre parcs we missed due to timings. This is literally a 5 min drive to Centre parcs so great for a weekend getaway or a Nice Stay over if you're doing a long trip. I highly recommend this place.

Sunday Lunch for 5 as a last minute idea, we decided to go local. Despite living less than 10 miles from Great Hockham, I had never been to the village and a charming place it turned out to be. The food was traditional pub grub and the portions huge. Service was great and friendly and the meals fantastic. Unfortunately due to a upcoming holiday to Portugal we were all not drinking bar one of our number but we will make up for that at our next visit as there was a good choice of ale, which the locals seemed happy with! Well worth a look!

Arrived without a reservation, we were offered a choice of tables, served drinks and given a menu. The Staff were attentive and very pleasant, the food was excellent and the service faultless. Little touches like a jug of water and two glasses delivered to the table without us having to ask. Will certainly return in the near future.

Really cosy village pub with great hospitality and service. The food was presented excellently. Small portion of pitta served with the hummus starter which was noted by server when some was left over and offered to get some more. Duck Liver starter could have also done with an extra slice of bread due to the generous serving. Overall wonderful and would happily return.
