Disappointed with lunch. Scampi tasted old, tasteless & chips were undercooked. Dessert was lovely. Fresh plaice didn't taste like plaice & had a source over disguising it.

Delightful pub slightly off the beaten track. Greated by very friendly staff even though it was near the end of lunch they took our order and provided us with a sumptuous couple of home made lasagne. Plenty of salad and a whole garlic baguette each. Well stuffed after an eight mile walk around the pingo trail.

Have been hoping to dine at the pub for a few years and finally got around to going but we were most disappointed so won’t be returning. We came for a meal and ordered our meals three were ok (but not great for the price) the fourth (beef lasagne with a whole garlic bread baguette that was not pleasantly presented) was not, it didn’t look or taste right (we all tasted it) it just seemed to very wet and full of liquid (possible cream). So we got it sent back and then were rushed into selecting another meal the Chequers roast chicken salad. Which just turned out very badly presented with full (not cut up) lettuce leaves and chicken on the born mixed in the the salad like it was from another meal. We then gave up and when the waitress returned we complained and then the chef/owner came out with a attitude saying that was how salads were done and no details on the menu suggested it was bornless chicken. He walked off and when asked if we get any reduction his reply was “no you will pay the full bill” The bill then had additional chargers for the omelette fillings that were not stated on the menu. After further complaints, the chef/owner removed these charges but no additional reductions are offered. For most restaurants/pubs/cafes where I have received one poor meal I would try again however I will not be returning ever again as we all were most disappointed and shocked by the service and very rude chef/owner.

Dined at the Chequers: the Steak & Ale pie can be recommended. The beer was well kept too, and with the attentive service it all made for a great night. We went for a lunchtime Easter Sunday meal here and had not been before. Have to admit from the outside you can see desperately needs re thatching but inside it has a lovely oldy worldy feel. The service was brilliant 👏 and the food tasty- would definitely recommend 👌 Prices, well we did 2 courses of a Main and a Desert and they were about £19 (there was choice of having 3 course on there for a bit more) - not sure if this was the set Sunday offering. They do offer a general menu too, various offerings with deserts separate at about £6.95. Average eating out cost we thought so happy 😊 (sure can look online too). Only downside was they could not do pizza on the Sunday for anyone with fussy eaters that only want that... but again maybe check with them before going). I am not sure about wheelchair access so do check with them directly it could be that I did not see, but if you do eat round one side you do need to go over a step or two past a little knook!❤️ The location here for us was perfect as just 15 mins drive from where my mother in law lives, which is why we chose here...win win!

Been to the Chequers a few times and have always had a good meal. However today was a big disappointment. My wife ordered the 4onz cheeseburger. When it arrived the bun was far too big for the burger and it was very dry and cold. The burger was hard and the edge was so hard my wife left it. When we said about it, the girl said she would let the chef know but when we paid not a word was said. One more thing, I had the cod and chips with peas but got salad and no peas. Sorry to say this visit was no where near what we expect from this venue.

Me and my work colleagues went on our Xmas meal to the chequers this afternoon. The food was brilliant and couldn’t fault it. However.. the two young waitresses were very rude and disrespectful, the waitresses were clearly in a rush to get us out the door as their shift was finishing soon, the constant sighing and sharp attitudes DEFINITELY didn’t go unnoticed. They quickly rushed our food out barely giving us any time in between the courses. We felt like we was in a Karen’s diner! Unfortunately I will not be coming back to the chequers and will advise people that do think about going there to be aware of the rude waitresses. Full credit to the chef though for the excellent food 10/10

Me and my work colleagues came to the Chequers for our Christmas work meal. Firstly the food was absolutely lovely and we couldn't fault it! So compliments to the chef. However... That was definitely the worst service we have ever experienced! From the moment we sat down the two young waitresses were rude and we felt like an inconvenience to them. They were sighing constantly and made no effort to be polite and practice good customer service. Towards the end of the meal the waitresses were getting upset due to us ordering more drinks! All they cared about was getting us out the door. We even started giving them banter back, as we couldn't believe the way the two were behaving! I'm sorry but you just don't expect this as a customer in any establishment... especially as a large table paying over £400!

Once again the Chequers Inn came up trumps! Cod and chips should be re-named whale and chips! A wicked chocolate sundae topped off a lovely evening. Service could have been faster but it wasn't a concern. Interestingly, Guinness is no longer served due to its price.

This was our first visit to the pub since moving to a nearby village almost three years ago. We wanted to take visiting family to lunch when they visited recently, so with no personal recommendations to go by, decided to try The Chequers. It proved to be a worthwhile find - the service was good and the food excellent, with a good choice of freshly prepared dishes available from both the usual menu and the ‘specials’ board. We’re already looking forward to our next visit, whenever that may be!

Found this little country pub whilst visiting family in the area, as didn’t want the standard Brake Brothers rubbish you get in your usual Wetherspoons. Safe to say we were far by disappointed with the selection of drinks and food at lunch, despite arriving just before they closed the kitchen at 2pm. We ordered the hunters chicken and fish & chips as they’d sold out of their pies as they’re ever so popular, to which the portion sizes for the price were a steal! The fish came out and was massive, covered in a light beer batter that wasn’t heavy at all and was told that it is home made so was unique. Hunters chicken was lovely, massive chicken breast covered in loads of bacon along with bbq sauce then a side of chips & salad which was nice. Highly recommend going here if in the area, lovely seating area outside albeit 5 tables but they also host guests in their b&b attached.

It was probably my first visit to a UK pub or restaurant in over 20 years & also in my 1970s home village. Table booked by a Norfolk friend, purely based on Google recommendation, to follow a burial service in village church. It was midday Wednesday & only two people, so booking was not necessary. Entire experience was 1st class. Ver friendly, just right degree of service perfectly judging the time but also very honest on recommendations for food & drink, both of which were excellent & for reasonable prices. After the meal, invited to sit in the comfortable sofas around the fire next to the bar. Being a quiet, mid-week day, which though suited us well, I can't judge the atmosphere too well, but having been taken on a quick tour of the building, I can imagine it's a fabulous place when full of life. Highly recommended & big Dankeschön for brightening up an otherwise sombre day. Maybe I'll be back next year to try out the Biergarten! Prost🍺

Sunday Lunch for 5 as a last minute idea, we decided to go local. Despite living less than 10 miles from Great Hockham, I had never been to the village and a charming place it turned out to be. The food was traditional pub grub and the portions huge. Service was great and friendly and the meals fantastic. Unfortunately due to a upcoming holiday to Portugal we were all not drinking bar one of our number but we will make up for that at our next visit as there was a good choice of ale, which the locals seemed happy with! Well worth a look!
