The Chequers in Breckland

Lovely location set in the country side and I have to say it was peaceful. We loved sitting outside. Food was nice, I had hunters chicken and my wife had a burger. Both meals were nice. We had a few drinks too. My only observation would be the customer service could be better. We would visit again though.

Handy accommodation for attending a wedding at College Farm. Friendly staff and clean room. The owner is very dedicated, around at all hours and cooks a good breakfast. Great selection of Whisky and there is a wide variety of snacks. We really enjoyed the food. They have a 5* food hygiene rating too! Lots of wildlife in the surrounding fields, watch out for the pheasants!

We went for a lunchtime Easter Sunday meal here and had not been before. Have to admit from the outside you can see desperately needs re thatching but inside it has a lovely oldy worldy feel. The service was brilliant 👏 and the food tasty- would definitely recommend 👌 Prices, well we did 2 courses of a Main and a Desert and they were about £19 (there was choice of having 3 course on there for a bit more) - not sure if this was the set Sunday offering. They do offer a general menu too, various offerings with deserts separate at about £6.95. Average eating out cost we thought so happy 😊 (sure can look online too). Only downside was they could not do pizza on the Sunday for anyone with fussy eaters that only want that... but again maybe check with them before going). I am not sure about wheelchair access so do check with them directly it could be that I did not see, but if you do eat round one side you do need to go over a step or two past a little knook!❤️ The location here for us was perfect as just 15 mins drive from where my mother in law lives, which is why we chose here...win win!

What a quaint little pub. Called in for a beer and some food.had a nice pint of wherry and the food was very nice. Service was 100 % didn't stay in the rooms so can't comment on that side.but lovely place.

Have been back to The Chequers and have to say I was very pleased with my vegetarian lasagne. It was delicious and very big. As usual their beers are delicious.

Wow 👌 Absolutely delicious and the size of the portions are really good. From the starter to the desert we could not stop eating. Everything cooked to perfection 👌 with love and passion. Very friendly local people. We will come back.

Been to the Chequers a few times and have always had a good meal. However today was a big disappointment. My wife ordered the 4onz cheeseburger. When it arrived the bun was far too big for the burger and it was very dry and cold. The burger was hard and the edge was so hard my wife left it. When we said about it, the girl said she would let the chef know but when we paid not a word was said. One more thing, I had the cod and chips with peas but got salad and no peas. Sorry to say this visit was no where near what we expect from this venue.

Me and my work colleagues came to the Chequers for our Christmas work meal. Firstly the food was absolutely lovely and we couldn't fault it! So compliments to the chef. However... That was definitely the worst service we have ever experienced! From the moment we sat down the two young waitresses were rude and we felt like an inconvenience to them. They were sighing constantly and made no effort to be polite and practice good customer service. Towards the end of the meal the waitresses were getting upset due to us ordering more drinks! All they cared about was getting us out the door. We even started giving them banter back, as we couldn't believe the way the two were behaving! I'm sorry but you just don't expect this as a customer in any establishment... especially as a large table paying over £400!

Me and my work colleagues went on our Xmas meal to the chequers this afternoon. The food was brilliant and couldn’t fault it. However.. the two young waitresses were very rude and disrespectful, the waitresses were clearly in a rush to get us out the door as their shift was finishing soon, the constant sighing and sharp attitudes DEFINITELY didn’t go unnoticed. They quickly rushed our food out barely giving us any time in between the courses. We felt like we was in a Karen’s diner! Unfortunately I will not be coming back to the chequers and will advise people that do think about going there to be aware of the rude waitresses. Full credit to the chef though for the excellent food 10/10

Once again the Chequers Inn came up trumps! Cod and chips should be re-named whale and chips! A wicked chocolate sundae topped off a lovely evening. Service could have been faster but it wasn't a concern. Interestingly, Guinness is no longer served due to its price.

This was our first visit to the pub since moving to a nearby village almost three years ago. We wanted to take visiting family to lunch when they visited recently, so with no personal recommendations to go by, decided to try The Chequers. It proved to be a worthwhile find - the service was good and the food excellent, with a good choice of freshly prepared dishes available from both the usual menu and the ‘specials’ board. We’re already looking forward to our next visit, whenever that may be!

Quirky, homely and warm little pub/restaurant. Just love the decor with the old gas lamps, low ceilings and big wooden beams. Food was gorgeous, large portions and very good value for money. Staff were friendly and good fun, knew how to have a laugh which was good when there was 5 lads in there for a meal. Would definitely return again if in the area.

Had an amazing meal this evening. staff are lovely and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. Great value. Will definitely be back soon .

Visited as our bike group previously based weekend trips nearby. Food is very good. Staff are first class. Amazing inside tge building, very olde world quirky.

Two servers, one underage so could not service the bar drinks. My Wing of Skate was overcooked with the edges burnt. Told the waitress, but no response from the Chef.

Quiet location at edge of village overlooking fields and trees. Warm welcoming host and pub with well-stocked bar and excellent food. In the 3 nights there, we tried the traditional fish and chips through the gourmet chicken stuffed with salmon in cheese sauce with cream and wine. Every dish exceptional! Comfortable spacious bungalow complete with tea, fresh fruit, and chocolate biscuits! Best place to return to after walking the Pingo trail! Absolutely great old pub probably a bit tricky to find if you don't know the area but the food is absolutely fantastic. We just called in on a Sunday afternoon,the staff were really friendly and very efficient. If you like a good pie then this is definitely the place to go. I had a stuffed chicken breast with new potatoes and veg and again a massive portion. I couldn't fault anything it was all cooked to perfection. We would certainly recommend and certainly visit again.

We recently visited the restaurant to celebrate our Mother's 90th birthday. With a variety of dietary requirements, we have often been disappointed with the food that we have been served in other restaurants. However, at The Chequers Inn, the Chef took it upon himself to make sure that we were all completely happy with our meals. The food was fantastic and the service exceptional, the Chef even came out during our meal to make sure that we were happy. We shall be returning. Well done and thank you.

A fantastic hidden gem food is amazing I hope your hungry as the potions are big we sat in the snug as we had our dog and if your talking your 4 legged friend I would book in advance.

Found this little country pub whilst visiting family in the area, as didn’t want the standard Brake Brothers rubbish you get in your usual Wetherspoons. Safe to say we were far by disappointed with the selection of drinks and food at lunch, despite arriving just before they closed the kitchen at 2pm. We ordered the hunters chicken and fish & chips as they’d sold out of their pies as they’re ever so popular, to which the portion sizes for the price were a steal! The fish came out and was massive, covered in a light beer batter that wasn’t heavy at all and was told that it is home made so was unique. Hunters chicken was lovely, massive chicken breast covered in loads of bacon along with bbq sauce then a side of chips & salad which was nice. Highly recommend going here if in the area, lovely seating area outside albeit 5 tables but they also host guests in their b&b attached.

Had to revisit due to birthday venue was unexpectedly closed. The drinks fine the food was good what we had as it appeared from me giving my order to waitress to telling the chef Parton my meal never appeared, asked what veg bowl contained I said only broccoli please but dinner arrives no potatoes yes with a few bits of broccoli, when asked waitress said I think it my fault. When we paid no concession on price despite a large part of meal missing.

We had a beautiful meal and two pints of Greene King IPA. Located in Thompson, Norfolk the meals are lovely - we had the Vegetable Curry with naan and rice and the Salmon stuffed Chicken Breast in cheese sauce with vegetables. The late summer evening favoured sitting outside. Highly recommended.

We stopped in for a lunch. The food was absolutely amazing, the service was efficient, available and not intrusive. The interior of the pub is a beautiful, Tudor look. Heartily recommended and I will definitely return when in the area.

I can say without any hesitation that thier steak pie is absolutely amazing. That along with a nice stout in an old pub... Perfect.

Had a lovely meal, with fab company - my sister and eldest daughter. We all said how good the meal was and very good value too. Service excellent followed by a lovely chat with Richard the landlord/chef.

HAD LUNCH AT THE CHEQUERS. MEAL WAS SUPERB. BEEF CURRY FROM THE SPECIALS BOARD WITH BASMATTI RICE, NAAN BREAD, POPPADOM, ONION BHAJI WITH SALAD AND SOUR CREAM DRESSING. JUST AN EXCELLENT PLATE OF FOOD. I BELIEVE IT WAS AROUND £15. GREAT VALUE AND ACCOMPANIED BY AN EXCELLENT ALE. MUST DO THIS MORE OFTEN.

The service was not good. A long wait to get served and a long while before the food come out and the food was disappointing as we have eaten there before and the service and food was very good. It may have just been an off night. But we won’t be rushing back.

Pleasant staff, found a suitable table for my elderly relative. Good choice of lunchtime menu. Good wholesome cooking well presented. Salmon with a good sauce, well cooked veggies. Veggie lasagne also very tasty. Eton mess enormous, but delicious, not overly sweet which was most acceptable, with real whipped cream and chewy meringue and good berries. Excellent value for money and good attentive service. Thank you.

We had family visiting and I didn’t want to cook so decided to book The Chequers Inn for Sunday lunch. The pub was extremely busy but front of house were absolutely on point. We were sat at our table and drinks arrived promptly. Staff were extremely attentive and the food was wonderful. I have finally found somewhere that serves a decent homely roast just like I would make. Nothing fancy, just very tasty meat, veg, yorkies and gravy. Definitely will be my go to when I can’t be bothered to cook.

A really nice pub and good food but the service was very slow even though it was not overly busy.

Lovely start to the day with a cooked breakfast at a local Inn 😋, 18 of us at the same time and it all came together nicely.

We had a family lunch at The Chequers Inn today to celebrate Dad's birthday. Very good choice - warm welcome and fabulous service from Jules. Menu choices were good quality and very reasonably priced. Added bonus that it's dog friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Normally love the Chequers. Had a vegetarian lasagne there not so long ago and it was lovely. Had the same meal at lunch time today and I couldn’t eat it - way too dry. Chips were not cooked for long enough and were hard inside. When the waitress cleared away our plates her comment was “have we defeated you”. I explained about the lasagne and got no apology. 😫

Gorgeous local pub who were incredibly welcoming to outsiders like ourselves visiting for the weekend. The food was delicious and portioned on the generous side with a cheesecake to die for! Definitely go if you're in the area.

Two cheeseburger meals, again very large portions . Chicken stuffed with salmon was delicious as were the vegetables that accompanied it . Stopped here after reading reviews on the way to Norwich. Tiny bar with friendly staff and local. They had space in the restaurant, had a great Sunday lunch, massive portions of good quality food. Couldn’t finish my main as the portions were so big. Would happily visit again

We returned to this pub after too many years of not visiting. There is a good choice of food which turned out to be really tasty. Between six of us we ordered steak and ale pie, cod and burgers. All very tasty. The pub was busy and had a good atmosphere. The only criticism was it was a bit chilly in there. There was an open fire/wood burner in the room we ate in but sadly it wasn't lit. Overall really good and would recommend.

Excellent food, hot and fresh, staff very kind

We popped into the Chequers after doing a nice walk, with the dog. The building is amazing, so much character and a delight. The staff were exceptionally friendly. We just wanted to have a drink and lunch before heading back home to London. The food was really nice, the starter, mushrooms was the best dish, it was delicious, my partner had scampi, and it is what it is, you know what you are getting. I had the fish and chips and it was very tasty, the batter was nice but i felt it could have been drained a bit as it was quite oily, chips were great. We wold definitely return.

Lovely pub and great menu and ambience.Really good value for money too.But unfortunately enjoyment was spoiled by having a curry that was described as mildly the order taker but was in fact hot so I couldn't eat more than a few mouthfuls.My partner enjoyed his meal though fewer mou few

Beautiful food, Beautiful pub! Now returned to stay the night too and the rooms are great, clean well decorated and scenic view out the back into a meadow.

Staying locally and the only local pub we found this pub just on the fringe of Thompson. The sign on the road could do with a refresh and I doubt it’s lit at night so could be easy to drive past A single story, thatched pub with a smallish and simple but a decent choice of draft to be had. Various seating options immediately including what look like a restaurant beyond. A few outside seats out the front and plenty more to the rear Food was a good choice and quality choice. As we was eating later we chose sandwiches/omelettes and a pizza. Myself crossing the pizza. A home made base from what I could tell a large choice of quality toppings not shredded water ham, not pepperoni slices but real meats and prawns etc and laid on thickly!!! Probably one of the best pizza I’ve had, dare I say it, ever! My friends eating various Brie sandwiches and omelettes offered the same compliments to their choices too.
