A quaint olde inn full of character. We stayed here for one night whilst visiting our daughter nearby. The double room was clean with a comfortable bed. The shower was very good. Breakfast was well cooked and substantial. All staff were friendly and welcoming. Would definitely stay again.

Terrible food (defrosted frozen fish, chips were not like proper chips - maybe oven. CHips deep fried, burgers were unappetising, and we were told they were running out of ketchup and couldn’t give us anymore sachets! So we went to the local shop (2 min walk away) and bought our own ketchup which we shared with other disgruntled customers! ! In addition we waited 40 mins for the “meal”! Pity a lovely village like Houghton doesn’t have a decent pub! Never going back!

We stayed here and it was lovely - Thanks to Cathy and her husband (and staff) for making us feel very welcome. The food was lovely - both dinner and breakfast. Our room was quaint (this is a 17th Century building) even if the ceiling was a little low. The bed was very comfortable and it was very quiet so we had a good night's sleep. There is a lovely beer garden too.

Came for a drink and the very popular Sunday Carvery. First impressions was how clean the establishment was! Staff very welcoming and accommodating. The Carvery was phenomenal, fresh, tasty, and cooked to perfection. Had Aperol Spritz from the summer treats board, which was a little jug of heaven, Aperol,Prosecco and Soda, perfect for a sunny afternoon. This pub is a gem! If you in St Ives or surrounding areas, highly recommend you visit.

Well, what can I say. Me and my wife had the sharing platter and it was amazing. Just enough for two. It was cooked to perfection. The staff are very friendly. Great pub. This is why we keep coming back when we can which, to be honest is not often enough. I would highly recommend this gorgeous little pub.

The welcome was not cordial more hostile, the ordering was chaotic and not all that was asked for got delivered although to be fair missing item was not charged. Meals were not expensive but we're not particularly appealing and poorly presented. All in all it felt like we were an inconvenience despite having previously notified of our attendance

The decline in this place over the past year has been staggering. We used to be regulars, and we’d always pick this place for a birthday meal or a Sunday lunch. Sadly, this is no longer the case. The drop off in standards has been steep. The only thing that hasn’t dropped off is the price. Small steps like taking the mini quails eggs and pickled onions from the fish & chips has now trickled down into the quality of the food, which, despite the pretensions of the menu, has gone downhill rapidly. Steak, always great, is now ordinary at best. Even when cooked correctly, the meat is poor quality. This is down to one thing - cost cutting. Sunday lunch is no better than an average pub. Trouble is, it’s twice the price. Service is friendly but amateurish and disorganised. Bar service is the slowest I’ve experienced in a long while. Frankly, when you’re dropping £200 plus for a meal for two and wine, you need to do better.
