Marsh Harrier in Huntingdonshire

We always keep our eyes open looking for a place to eat, and often Google 'places to eat near me'. Inevitably, we nearly always end up at The Marsh Harrier, St Ives. A tried and trusted venue. Would definitely recommend to would-be diners.

The steak and ale pie had hardly any meat in and when I pointed it out to the staff I was told it is the same with the chicken pie, not sure if that's what I wanted to hear. We have been there several times but won't be going back

Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good.

Restaurant was a mess. Tables not cleared or cleaned. Used the app starter arrived burnt after 20mins. Had to ask for our drinks. Waited a tiaras of an hour for food even though restaurant was empty. When asked if there was a problem we were fed a pack of lies.

Food very basic had a chicken sharer. Served in a metal pan with a sheet of paper small amount of sauce. No garnish just didn't look great. So left with out getting mains. Place its self felt cold looked empty with no brick or brack any where felt like a canteen. No ales on no pub feel really if I'm honest. For a marstons I'm surprised that the feeling of being in a pub just is not there. Staff look demoralised but I get that they might of had a hard Christmas. But still didn't have that welcoming touch when guests entered the so called pub. Such a shame will not be returning. And am now hesitant about the marstons chain.

An excellent alternative to using service stations! Not far off the A14, better food and facilities, with a much cheaper Morrisons petrol station and supermarket right next door. The gammon was beautifully cooked and delicious, the chairs were comfortable and all-in a much better alternative to service stations.

Service was on the slow side, website was very easy to use to order food/drinks. Children's area kept little one busy whilst waiting for food so was pleased with that. all staff looked well presented and pleasant when delivering the food and checking to make sure everything was ok. Food was well presented and worth the money. I would return.

The last time I came was about 5 years ago and was not impressed with it. i came on monday and it was great food lovely service was fab .will be coming back again

Had our works christmas meal there tonight and we had a great evening lovely food and great service shout out to Liam (AM) Josh (chef) and Dan (American bar man) all very welcoming and attentive 😊

Booked to have Christmas dinner with my elderly father as we live 100 miles away from him. There were 7 of us eating. We booked and paid a deposit for the festive menu. Unfortunately the restaurant was cold and most of us kept our coats on, the fairy lights weren’t switched on and we feel we weren’t really attended to. A gentleman asked if everything was ok but he wasn’t in a uniform (was actually dressed quite scruffily) but had a lanyard on and went behind the bar so guessed he was on duty. Food came out together and hot and tasty but the experience was underwhelming

Shared nachos with pulled pork starter. My friend had rump steak & I had chicken kebab. Good value, staff friendly & helpful

Went as a family of four for lunch on a Sunday, roast turkey. Came out with no cranberry sauce, the gravy was literally chicken flavoured water. The drinks were ordered with the food, had to chase them as meals came out 20mins after ordering. They ended up on the table next to us after we chased where they were after eating our meal. Pretty disappointing, won't be going again.

Really disappointed that I have emailed and Facebook messaged and still haven't had a response from anyone. We visited for lunch on Tuesday 10th December placing our order at 12.40 which included 2 main meals and a dessert. We waited an hour for our mains (we were not told there was a longer wait) we then waited 25 minutes for our dessert which never arrived. We went to the bar to say please could we cancel the dessert as we needed to leave, they said they would put in a box for us. We waited another 15 minutes at the bar, we then saw our dessert go to our table we had been sitting and go back into the kitchen. When asked about this there had been a mix up in the kitchen. We then had to leave and didn't get a refund or anything as we had to go to go and fetch our children from school. This is such a disappointment which completely ruined what was supposed to be a nice lunch out. Their were complaints coming from all tables. We regularly come here but will not be coming back any time soon.

Nice relaxed lunch, prices very reasonable & all staff were friendly and welcoming. Rebecca asked about any food allergies etc before we ordered, and Liam checked we were happy with everything & advised on dessert options. Will definitely visit again.

Had a great meal, very clean and tidy place, good staff,nice and polite.

Was busy. But the meal was very nice. Use this restaurant quite a lot. They are doing their 30 per cent off menu at the moment. They still have a deal for a meal where you get a curry on a Wednesday plus a drink for £11.95. Also other days they different offers except Frisays and weekends. Starting to advertise their Christmas Menu.

All staff were really lovely and welcoming. Billy went above and beyond for us!

After a bad experience at another Marston’s I was a bit apprehensive but I am very impressed. Easily one of the nicest burgers I have had in a restaurant in years. Team were really welcoming. Well worth a visit!

My sister and I often eat here and can't fault the food especially the jam sponge and custard.🙂

Took my mum for a mother daughter lunch. Was greeted by Beth with a friendly face and eager to help. Slight mishap with our food, but she rectified this instantly. Thoughourly enjoyed our pudding. We will be visiting again.

The food, staff and service are always great. The atmosphere is always welcoming and relaxing, visiting often 💛Overall experience was really good as usual, good customer service and the food was amazing-last review. This times review my only complaint is I had a 30% voucher via email and the Manager wouldn't put it through and we visit regularly and he said 'I don't know why they have sent you that, the offer had finished on the 10th November' then you now have a post on Facebook with 30% off through November with exactly the same code I had on my email, thanks

The food was so bad - it came out luke warn and everything on my place had turned. The jacket potato was old, i couldn’t eat it. The chilli and even the salad looked nice but it all made me gag as soon as if hit my mouth. The staff working in the kitchen need to small and taste food they are preparing. They would have known this should not have been served to anyone

The pub was reasonably busy when we arrived at 6pm, ensuring we were on time due to the threatening email we received when we booked. Plenty of seats available and by 7pm it felt almost empty. Maybe everyone else felt under time pressure to eat up as we were allocated a table for only 90 mins. We were greeted at the door with a list of what was not available, which is at least an improvement on the previous Marston's pub we visited (The Hatfields, Doncaster) where ordering food and drink became a version of the Monty Python 'Cheese Shop' sketch. We ordered one starter between us, a main each and a dessert between us. The starter arrived promptly and was good (BBQ cauliflower wings). The mains were Mac and Cheese, with pulled pork topping, and a rump steak with peppercorn sauce. The Mac and cheese included garlic bread, which is too much carbs but carbs are cheap to include. The steak was ordered medium, but was quite chewy. I originally intended to have Surf and Turf, but the pub had run out of scampi. Dessert was chocolate fudge cake, which was OK. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Probably a Sunday evening is not the best time to visit, but there again at Doncaster it was a Thursday evening and had the same lack of customers and lack of items. Luckily we got out just as our allotted 90 mins was up. Not sure what would have happened if we had gone over the time limit. Maybe the table would have been removed and we would have been thrown out?? The UK hospitality industry is facing many challenges. Hospitality seems to be one of them.

Long wait for food especially with children, they were however very busy.

45-minute wait for food (we were warned of this, but the place was nearly empty 🤷‍♂️). Food and service were OK but nothing special. Staff were pleasant, although one was working in an outdoor coat??? Bizarre

Food was much better than last time we visited, which was a couple of years ago. Curry was very good and so was steak and ale pie

Excellent front of house staff. Food really let it down. Sausage and mash was like having charcoal soup.. burnt sausages, tasteless mash and watery gravy. I’m sure the other food is good but this specific main was the worst I’ve had.

We were seated promptly, ordered our meal at the bar and our starters came out 15 mins later which is about average in most pubs. The main took 1hr 20mins but 10 mins before this turned up we were told there was no veggie strips for the burger and due to the lack of options for vegetarians my wife ended up with just the extra chips she had ordered. When the food arrived it was almost cold and the chips tasted like cardboard, the burger had been massively overcooked. Generally it was very poor food which did not warrant the price we had paid, the manager tried to offer us desserts for free but we had already been in the pub for over 2 hrs we were not going to risk it and the quality so far did not bode well. We have eaten at many Marstons before and always been happy with the service and food quality, this branch needs much improvement!

My dad didn't get his dinner we had to wait an hour for our food and when my dad got his food he got a chicken burger he's vegertarian😡

We have returned to The Marsh Harrier this year, to find that it is much less busy than years ago, therefore the service is quicker, friendly and helpful. The food is nice, with a good choice selection. The 2 real ales on pump are well kept, with a good selection of other drinks. It has certainly become a nice place for a meal again. Plus, there are carpeted areas, so less discomfort for hearing aid users, and they kindly reduced the volume of the speaker at our table when we asked.

Updated: Having had a bad experience here previously, we dared to go back and try our luck and I'm pleased to say was delighted with the result. Food was served promptly, and with generous portions. The pub boasts a nice atmosphere, accompanied by friendly staff.

Excellent service bar staff and waiting staff excellent. Goodness me the food was really lovely and a very good amount too. We also had yummy pudding and honestly felt so welcome by all the staff we are planning a return trip next month. My father in law is elderly wears hearing aids and so the kind staff turned music down slightly so he could talk to us. It’s these small touches all made such a huge difference thank you. Your lady behind the bar she was particularly attentive and kind. No idea who she was but thank you.

We haven’t been to the Marsh Harrier for a number of years since we moved out of Needingworth and decided to go back for Sunday lunch, it was well worth it, all the food was cooked to perfection and we couldn’t fault any of it. It was well worth the visit and we will definitely be going back, better than a lot of places we’ve been to

Popped in on a Sunday evening and was greeted with a friendly welcome. Being a solo diner here I felt comfortable (some places you feel awkward). Didn't take long for my starters to arrive and the main came with my steak cooked just how I like it. I didn't have room for a dessert, but there are lots of delicious sounding choices on the menu. I will definitely be back. Thanks to the team for their quick, friendly service.

Food was excellent and delivered in a very reasonable time. All staff were friendly and polite but a mention definitely goes to Guido who really looked after us and made sure all our needs were met. Would definitely recommend a visit to this pub.

Superb pub brilliant atmosphere food and service highly recommend

The service was slow we waited 45mins for our food, when it arrived it had clearly been microwaved to an inch of its life and the order was also wrong, the steak was over cooked and very tough!

We always receive wonderful tea and coffee service when we gather on a Friday for our Weight Watchers meeting. A very happy place to come to, decorated for every event.

Please don't go to the marsh Harriot at St Ives poor service rude staff .took over a hour to get food lasagne no meat all sauce .it was this Friday night no mixed grill no fish and chips no rice . We paid £50 for 4 main meals will defo not going back would not recommend to eat yet better serve at greggs

Called last Friday, wife had lasagna came with chips salad etc , I had Sirloin steak all the trimmings , garlic bread with cheese+ a sausage for our dog and what a lovely meal , service was excellent nice friendly people we will be back this week ( good offer on drinks too)

Just had lunch at this lovely pub and was once again reminded that I need to make this my regular spot. As per usual, the staff were friendly and helpful, the food was delicious and on time and we never felt rushed off our table even though we chatted for quite a while.

We walked in late on Sunday just as they were about to shut the kitchen, Billy the chef was brilliant he was happy to cook for us, let me tell you the food was delicious. It was served in great time and looked amazing. Thanks for the great experience we will be back soon!

Absolutely scrumptious vegetarian food

We arrived to find that a table had not been reserved for us. The waiter looked at a table which stated reserved but came back to us to say that the table was already reserved for someone arriving at 1.30 we had booked for 1.00. My wife asked if we could have that table and was told no in an angry manner. He then tried to sit us in a doorway with the door open and on high chairs which my wife told him she couldn't manage and didn't want to sit in a drafty door way. This seemed to make him even more angry. The waiter then went off to prepare another table for us. Two couples came in who hadn't booked and were told to take any table they liked that didn't state reserved. A colleague of the waiter dealing with us a young lady asked if everything was okay. my wife explained what was going on, the lady showed my wife some other tables which were perfectly and the lady said she couldn't' understand the waiter. We were then shown to a freshly wiped table which we sat down at but by this time we felt totally uncomfortable and could not consider staying and therefore we got up and left. If this is how you treat your customers you won't have many returning. We certainly wont be returning and I wont be promoting your restaurant.

Food and service was excellent. We all cleared our plates including an excellent vegetarian dish. Friendly staff and a lovely play area for children.

Whilst experience at The Marsh Harrier previously has been positive, i was met with refussal to accept blue light discount for our order, which would have been a significant discount. I showed my Bluelight discount to the cashier, but was advised i needed to show the phone app code, of which i did not have access to. I was more than happy to provide ID, my blue light card and number and any other identification needed. Once ordered, without the blue light discount, our meals took over an hour to be brought to the table, with no communication regarding the delay in our food. I had to chase 3 times to ask when the meals would be ready, and had 3 children within the group who became increasingly irritable (our table was booked for 6.45pm). Once the meals were brought to the table the 'medium rare' steak as part of the surf and turf meal was well done, infact was overdone and dry. A replacement was cooked and brought to the table, however by this point, the rest of the meal had gone cold. The restaurant manager offered 3 childrens desserts as compensation. It was a dissapointing experience, and one that has led to us avoiding a further booking this bank holiday weekend just gone, of which we would have likely returned had we not experienced such poor service on this visit.

Always so friendly and welcoming to me and my family. Have young children that are always happy with the children menu and their dinner and I'm happy with the price of the kids menu. Had good deals over the school holidays. Always helpful with our needs thank you.

Staff mostly sitting around chatting to each other, food was average to below average quality although steaks cooked very well. Every time I’m visited invlusive of this one at least one thing we have ordered has been unavailable or out of stock. Overall poor impression

We made a booking, were shown to a table and left wondering whether we were going to be served or not. After getting up to ask, turns out you have to go to the bar to place an order, would have been nice to have been told that when shown to the table. Food arrives, pretty average Sunday roast with soggy old Yorkshire pudding, bit disappointing and won't be returning.
