As you walk into the pub, there is no signs or notices saying please wait here to be seater or anything. We waited 5 minutes and managed to call over one of the incredibly busy waiting staff, who told us sit anywhere. Looking around the pub, all the staff were extremely stretched and were at their capacity. We sit Down at a table, read the menus then after watching we see that you need to go up and order at the bar. The queue was to the main entrance. Two people serving. When standing in the queue, some guest when ordering were told at the bar it's a 30 minute wait for food, and others were not. We ordered at 6.25pm, lasagne, Hunters chicken and 8oz rump. Our food arrived at 7.10pm, we had to take back the 8pz rump at is was dry and extremely overcooked for a medium rare. A new serving was promptly brought out and this was cooked as requested. The food itself was OK, lovely chips, meet cooked fine, but we all found ourselves still feeling hungry, as portion sizes are on the smaller side. Some tables around us were still awaiting there food and they ordered over 1hour20 minutes. One table had a refund due to the time waiting and no food did arrive. Drinks were expensive. We decided not to have dessert as we didn't feel it was fair adding to the long list of orders and the waiting staff were extremely pushed and short staffed. We came to the restaurant purely due to getting a 30% off voucher though the post. Sadly due to the long service time I don't think we will be making another visit anytime soon!

Overall our experience at the Marsh Harrier was terrible. As soon as we walked in our booked table was being used, so we had to be sat somewhere else. Drinks took 15 minutes after my wife chased for them and the Moretti was not nice. Food was below average. Clearly microwaved food, at a cost for fresh. My "roast" potatoes was what looked like boiled and oiled and missed the oven. I couldn't eat them. Atmosphere was dire, carpets wasn't hoovered (how hard is that?) We was there at midday and it wasn't busy, so hadn't got dirty, was just uncleaned. Had to dig through the cuttelry to find clean knives and forks. Second drinks had to be chased, and the beer I ordered wasn't avaliable, or my second choice, so ended up with another Moretti, which was cheaper than the beer I ordered but the difference wasn't refunded. I won't even talk about the staff because I don't want to be rude. There's much nicer places to eat that are actually cheaper. Avoid

Just awful. We booked a table as know it can get busy on a Sunday. When we arrived we were shoved in the corner and the waiter didn’t even speak to us at all. He then came over to tell us there are no toasts, no pizzas and no jacket potatoes which left us with quiet limited options. We ordered via the app, drinks came quickly. 40 minutes later I went to the bar to check we they hadn’t forgotten our food and was greeted by a man who appeared to be the manager who just looked at me blankley when I repeated the question he said yea we will serve the table next to you then it’s you. The table next to us arrived 20 minutes after us, ate their food and left before we even got ours. They continued to serve other tables when the waiter came over and asked if we were ready for our food….. erm yea for the last 45 minutes!! 1 hour and 30 minutes from the order being placed the food arrived and what a state it was. We had to find our own cutlery and napkins and sauces. By this point we would of eaten anything but the steak was chewy and hard to eat, the burgers were dry and the chips undercooked. We were never asked how it was or an apology made dfor the wait times. Do not go here u til it changes hands it’s just awful and actually quite stressful. Other groups of people were complaining about wait times and poor food to and they seemed to just be making mistakes after mistake. Needs a serious rework or they will close down.

We booked a table for 12pm today and when we arrived our table already had a couple sitting down. So we had to be sat somewhere else! We sat down and ordered our drinks on the app. I went to the bar and mentioned its been 15 minutes since we ordered our drinks. They said they will be with us in a second, 5 minutes later we had our drinks. My husbands moretti didn't taste nice at all, he forced himself to drink it as it was £6. They didnt have no levelhead or peroni! The vodka & coke was absolutely fine. We ordered a roast dinner, a lasagna & our son had a chicken burger. The wait for the food was 30 minutes, so not ideal as it wasn't busy. The food it self wasn't great, especially my husbands roast. The potato's weren't roasted and the carrots still had skin on along with an off colour look. They didn't look fresh. The lasagna was okay but didn't taste great, definitely microwave food unfortunately. The garlic bread could have been cooked longer as there was no colour to it. My son's burger no complaints. I got up to get cutlery as we wasn't given any, some of the knives still had food on them. I asked for napkins, 15 minutes later still no napkins. I went to the bar and asked again, the man said "let me see if I can find them" No apologies were given, no one asked us how the food was. None of the staff smiled, they weren't professional at all!! The carpet was dirty and there was food on the floor as well as dirty tables. One staff member looked a bit scruffy and both shoes were untied. No proper uniform! We spent nearly £50 and none of it was worth it, we will not be returning.

What a way to end your Anniversary. Go out for a meal and wait 10 mins to be seated at a booked table. 10 mins for a drink, 20 mins for the starter. Chicken wings over cooked and crunchy smothered in BBQ sauce. Prawn cocktail with bread not buttered. To top that off ask a waiter how long the mains will be? As we had been waiting now for 40 mins He said he will find out and never came back to us even though he walked past our table 3 times. Then asked another waiter who then spoke to the manager that came over to our table and said it will be about 7 mins longer So I gave him 5 mins. During that time the manager came back offering a full refund as our mains hadn't even been started. UnHappy anniversary meal at the Marsh Harrier St Ives Never go there again.

What can I say terrible service not enough staff. cock the drinks up more than once took ages to get served and as the meal well it was crap 1 of us order rump steak & 2 Sirloin Steaks medium rare well, we needed a chain saw to cut it not sure which part of medium rare they did not under stand and as for the cowboy burger that was cook by the cowboy tough as hell & miss the peas off kid meal so we gave him some of ours. We were going to have desserts after waiting at the bar for 10min we did not bother it would have been quicker to go to MD across the road. When did complain was told staff training & new staff not good enough March Harrier had not been in there for 2 years & we will not be eating in your pub again marks out of 10 - 0

Pleasant enough. Friendly service, but drinks and food expensive. Took over 45 minutes for pizza to arrive, which seems excessive.

Went here for lunch, they have a great menu, I chose the steak that was cooked to my liking. Also had a dessert was amazing. Staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.

Really impressed with customer service. Walked in and we were helped straight away by a guy who was totally natural, super helpful and just really easy to deal with. His name was Billy and turned out he was part of the kitchen team-so even more impressed by his front of house skills

A very pleasant atmosphere with plenty of space between tables. Food quality was very good, hot and pleasing to the eye. The staff especially Hayley were very helpful and helped make the visit enjoyable, I would happily return.

Staff were friendly and welcoming, it was busy but expected that it was a sunday lunchtime food was a little of a wait but again expected it. The only downside was no cask ales which was very disappointing can understand running out of one but all!

Large car park. They are now doing their meal deal which is a different meal option on a different night ( Monday to Friday). This includes two meals plus drinks. Outside seating available. Disabled parking and toilets.

Lovely staff who are always so welcoming when we have our work team get togethers - they have no problem with us working here and using their Wi-Fi. Always great food!

Trying to be kind re this review as the staff had worked their socks off but the food was pretty bad. Dry burger and even dryer Bun. The curry looked and tasted like a microwave meal.

The atmosphere is always welcoming and relaxing, visiting often 💛Overall experience was really good as usual, good customer service and the food was amazing-last review. This times review my only complaint is I had a 30% voucher via email and the Manager wouldn't put it through and we visit regularly and he said 'I don't know why they have sent you that, the offer had finished on the 10th November' then you now have a post on Facebook with 30% off through November with exactly the same code I had on my email, thanks

We went for a Saturday lunchtime meal. We waited at least 45 minutes for our meals to be brought out. They were ok. This is an absolutely average plastic menu chain pub. There are better places to go nearby for similar prices.

He told me to say he was really handsome - who can argue with that lol. But seriously, service was great and staff are always very friendly.

Having not had great experiences in the distant past, we thought it was about time we gave this restaurant another chance as it’s local and we didn’t fancy cooking. Arrived at 1.30pm on Sunday lunchtime. Was immediately informed that they had run out of roasts (they advertise food until 9pm!!). It transpired that a number of other menu items were also unavailable so we ordered from the limited options. The only ale on offer was Marston’s Pedigree, which is usually a decent beer and in a Marston’s pub would expect it to be. It was undrinkable and tasted like it had been passed through a dirty dishcloth. Perhaps the pipes needed a good clean? After what appeared to be an eternity, the starters appeared which I can agree were edible and as described, but wholly uninspiring! A further eternity passed and the mains eventually arrived. Mine was perhaps the driest sirloin steak I’ve ever chewed through and the accompaniments best described as “sad.” The hunger from the wait perhaps the only reason we got through the meals. It would have been faster, less expensive and certainly tastier had we not turned into the car park, headed to Morrisons, bought the ingredients and cooked at home.

We always keep our eyes open looking for a place to eat, and often Google 'places to eat near me'. Inevitably, we nearly always end up at The Marsh Harrier, St Ives. A tried and trusted venue. Would definitely recommend to would-be diners.

The steak and ale pie had hardly any meat in and when I pointed it out to the staff I was told it is the same with the chicken pie, not sure if that's what I wanted to hear. We have been there several times but won't be going back

Restaurant was a mess. Tables not cleared or cleaned. Used the app starter arrived burnt after 20mins. Had to ask for our drinks. Waited a tiaras of an hour for food even though restaurant was empty. When asked if there was a problem we were fed a pack of lies.

Food very basic had a chicken sharer. Served in a metal pan with a sheet of paper small amount of sauce. No garnish just didn't look great. So left with out getting mains. Place its self felt cold looked empty with no brick or brack any where felt like a canteen. No ales on no pub feel really if I'm honest. For a marstons I'm surprised that the feeling of being in a pub just is not there. Staff look demoralised but I get that they might of had a hard Christmas. But still didn't have that welcoming touch when guests entered the so called pub. Such a shame will not be returning. And am now hesitant about the marstons chain.

An excellent alternative to using service stations! Not far off the A14, better food and facilities, with a much cheaper Morrisons petrol station and supermarket right next door. The gammon was beautifully cooked and delicious, the chairs were comfortable and all-in a much better alternative to service stations.

Service was on the slow side, website was very easy to use to order food/drinks. Children's area kept little one busy whilst waiting for food so was pleased with that. all staff looked well presented and pleasant when delivering the food and checking to make sure everything was ok. Food was well presented and worth the money. I would return.

The last time I came was about 5 years ago and was not impressed with it. i came on monday and it was great food lovely service was fab .will be coming back again

Booked to have Christmas dinner with my elderly father as we live 100 miles away from him. There were 7 of us eating. We booked and paid a deposit for the festive menu. Unfortunately the restaurant was cold and most of us kept our coats on, the fairy lights weren’t switched on and we feel we weren’t really attended to. A gentleman asked if everything was ok but he wasn’t in a uniform (was actually dressed quite scruffily) but had a lanyard on and went behind the bar so guessed he was on duty. Food came out together and hot and tasty but the experience was underwhelming

Went as a family of four for lunch on a Sunday, roast turkey. Came out with no cranberry sauce, the gravy was literally chicken flavoured water. The drinks were ordered with the food, had to chase them as meals came out 20mins after ordering. They ended up on the table next to us after we chased where they were after eating our meal. Pretty disappointing, won't be going again.

Really disappointed that I have emailed and Facebook messaged and still haven't had a response from anyone. We visited for lunch on Tuesday 10th December placing our order at 12.40 which included 2 main meals and a dessert. We waited an hour for our mains (we were not told there was a longer wait) we then waited 25 minutes for our dessert which never arrived. We went to the bar to say please could we cancel the dessert as we needed to leave, they said they would put in a box for us. We waited another 15 minutes at the bar, we then saw our dessert go to our table we had been sitting and go back into the kitchen. When asked about this there had been a mix up in the kitchen. We then had to leave and didn't get a refund or anything as we had to go to go and fetch our children from school. This is such a disappointment which completely ruined what was supposed to be a nice lunch out. Their were complaints coming from all tables. We regularly come here but will not be coming back any time soon.

After a bad experience at another Marston’s I was a bit apprehensive but I am very impressed. Easily one of the nicest burgers I have had in a restaurant in years. Team were really welcoming. Well worth a visit!

My sister and I often eat here and can't fault the food especially the jam sponge and custard.🙂

Took my mum for a mother daughter lunch. Was greeted by Beth with a friendly face and eager to help. Slight mishap with our food, but she rectified this instantly. Thoughourly enjoyed our pudding. We will be visiting again.

Excellent service, the food was lovely I had the southern fried chicken burger and it was cooked to perfection, easy ordering and informed us of any wait times and things they didn’t have in stock. Would definitely recommend.

The food was so bad - it came out luke warn and everything on my place had turned. The jacket potato was old, i couldn’t eat it. The chilli and even the salad looked nice but it all made me gag as soon as if hit my mouth. The staff working in the kitchen need to small and taste food they are preparing. They would have known this should not have been served to anyone

The pub was reasonably busy when we arrived at 6pm, ensuring we were on time due to the threatening email we received when we booked. Plenty of seats available and by 7pm it felt almost empty. Maybe everyone else felt under time pressure to eat up as we were allocated a table for only 90 mins. We were greeted at the door with a list of what was not available, which is at least an improvement on the previous Marston's pub we visited (The Hatfields, Doncaster) where ordering food and drink became a version of the Monty Python 'Cheese Shop' sketch. We ordered one starter between us, a main each and a dessert between us. The starter arrived promptly and was good (BBQ cauliflower wings). The mains were Mac and Cheese, with pulled pork topping, and a rump steak with peppercorn sauce. The Mac and cheese included garlic bread, which is too much carbs but carbs are cheap to include. The steak was ordered medium, but was quite chewy. I originally intended to have Surf and Turf, but the pub had run out of scampi. Dessert was chocolate fudge cake, which was OK. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Probably a Sunday evening is not the best time to visit, but there again at Doncaster it was a Thursday evening and had the same lack of customers and lack of items. Luckily we got out just as our allotted 90 mins was up. Not sure what would have happened if we had gone over the time limit. Maybe the table would have been removed and we would have been thrown out?? The UK hospitality industry is facing many challenges. Hospitality seems to be one of them.

Long wait for food especially with children, they were however very busy.

45-minute wait for food (we were warned of this, but the place was nearly empty 🤷‍♂️). Food and service were OK but nothing special. Staff were pleasant, although one was working in an outdoor coat??? Bizarre

Food was much better than last time we visited, which was a couple of years ago. Curry was very good and so was steak and ale pie

Excellent front of house staff. Food really let it down. Sausage and mash was like having charcoal soup.. burnt sausages, tasteless mash and watery gravy. I’m sure the other food is good but this specific main was the worst I’ve had.

We were seated promptly, ordered our meal at the bar and our starters came out 15 mins later which is about average in most pubs. The main took 1hr 20mins but 10 mins before this turned up we were told there was no veggie strips for the burger and due to the lack of options for vegetarians my wife ended up with just the extra chips she had ordered. When the food arrived it was almost cold and the chips tasted like cardboard, the burger had been massively overcooked. Generally it was very poor food which did not warrant the price we had paid, the manager tried to offer us desserts for free but we had already been in the pub for over 2 hrs we were not going to risk it and the quality so far did not bode well. We have eaten at many Marstons before and always been happy with the service and food quality, this branch needs much improvement!

My dad didn't get his dinner we had to wait an hour for our food and when my dad got his food he got a chicken burger he's vegertarian😡

Updated: Having had a bad experience here previously, we dared to go back and try our luck and I'm pleased to say was delighted with the result. Food was served promptly, and with generous portions. The pub boasts a nice atmosphere, accompanied by friendly staff.

We have returned to The Marsh Harrier this year, to find that it is much less busy than years ago, therefore the service is quicker, friendly and helpful. The food is nice, with a good choice selection. The 2 real ales on pump are well kept, with a good selection of other drinks. It has certainly become a nice place for a meal again. Plus, there are carpeted areas, so less discomfort for hearing aid users, and they kindly reduced the volume of the speaker at our table when we asked.
