My whitebait starter was OK but my friends who shared the Houmini starter were not very pleased with it. As for the mains, the smoked haddock dish was sad and the chips were hardly edible, the liver and bacon casserole had very little bacon flavour and served with lumpy mash; the chicken dish was dry and as for the peas, which we all had generus helpings of, were hard and left uneaten. Sorry to say we won't be returnng soon, Maybe the chef was having a day off but I hinestly could hav edone abetter job myself especially for over £80,

Absolutely fantastic food. Extensive menu and a great range of daily specials. I had the sea bass and garlic tiger prawns, which was fab. Husband extremely happy with his large plaice, which was, indeed, very large! The chips are amazing! Proper chip shop type chips, but not greasy or fatty. Good range of drinks. Lovely outdoor seating area, next to a field. Very busy, popular with locals and holidaymakers.

A friend treated me to dinner at this restaurant. We'd had a tiring and challenging day at a local event and were feeling quite tired. We needed somewhere quiet so that we could relax, unwind and chat, and the Brick Kilns was perfect for that. My friend had eaten there before and it was his idea for us to go there. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table, which was by a window and so much nicer than having to sit against a wall. I sometimes struggle to find something that I want to eat when I go out, but I was spoiled for choice on Sunday evening. We all chose different meals, and the portion size was very generous. I particularly appreciated the delicious fresh vegetables that were served with my roast pork. I'm not easily impressed when I eat out, but there was absolutely nothing about which I could complain as everything was perfect. The staff were very attentive, even when the pub became busier. I hope to return before very long.

Excellent lunch all four meals were fantastic and lovely ladies serving us. Generous portions the steak in my pie just melted in your mouth. Mixed grill looked great and generous size pieces of meat. Chicken in white wine sauce lovely all served with plenty of veg and chips. Everything was piping hot couldn’t fault it in any way. Desserts were lovely to I had lemon cheesecake again a generous portion as was the syrup sponges and crumble. Will definitely be returning soon.

We stayed in The Brick Kilns for 4 nights. The staff made us feel so welcome and couldn’t have been more friendly. We had a lovely breakfast every morning and had two fantastic meals. On the last day we had to leave really early in the morning and they made us sandwiches for on the way which we thought was a great service. Would definitely recommend it to friends/family and would definitely stay here again.

This was the worst food experience I have had for a very long time. We ordered prawn cocktail and creamy mushrooms. What arrived at our table was very far from what was expected. The prawn cocktail was a pile of very cheap (and slimy) frozen prawns with a dariole mould full of bottled seafood sauce (again very poor quality) and a handful of mixed salad. The bread had the thinnest possible scrapping of butter on it and was obviously from a budget supermarket. The mushrooms were worse. Not button mushrooms,as stated on the menu, but rather old and tough closed cap mushrooms (possibly frozen) and a split and tasteless sauce. The attitude of the staff when I said we weren't happy sealed the deal. We will never go there again, nor will we recommend it to anyone else. My advice is steer well clear!

We went here for Sunday lunch after the nightmare of a stay in Sprowston manor hotel and wow what a difference in customer service. I was greeted by a very pleasant lady who I could see was busy but did explain that there was a table for us but might be a little while for food as they were extremely busy. We didn’t mind this and was shown to a table and ordered drinks whilst we browsed the menu. We chose the Sunday roast my partner had the beef and me the pork that were both delicious and plenty of vegetables and potatoes too, we were so full up so decided to share the lemon cheesecake that was lovely too. If we only knew about this place before as found out they offer accommodation too. will definitely be returning as was very friendly and welcoming.

We were greeted very warmly and sincerely. Our intention was to have lunch if available. There was no problem at all even though we had not booked. The food was beautifully prepared and the portions would satisfy the heartiest of appetites. The quality of meat was excellent. The lamb shanks were so good. The roast pork was tender, moist and delicious. There were plenty of vegetables cooked very nicely. Thank goodness we didn’t have starters, the amount of food was more than generous. No room for dessert but no matter. Thank you all at the Brick Kilns, we had a very positive experience. It was fifty years ago that I last visited and it’s still the Landlord, who incidentally rescues donkeys and horses. We can’t wait to visit again soon.

This is a home-style Pub who provide great service and large portions oftasty food; there are no frills here. The menu is still large despitelockdown restrictions and the vegetarian section is particularlychoice-full. I went for whitebait to start and turkey pie for mains. Thewhitebait was perfectly fried, accompanied by bread and butter. Too manyreally on the plate for an appetiser. The mains consisted of a slab ofpastry pie top with lashings of home-cooked succulent turkey pieces, leeksand mushrooms, in a creamy sauce. The chips were chip-shop quality. Again, half a portion would have been plenty. They had a 25% off promotion running, but we didn't get anywhere near 25% offour food which was rather naughty - I should have checked the bill more closely while on-site. If you're hungry, head to the Bick Kilns, you certainly wont leave hungry!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Stopped by at the Brick Kilns on a Monday evening after a very wet days walking, for something to eat. The pub itself is very cosy in a traditional style (which my companion referred to as akin to "being in your grandmother's living room"), and warm with multiple fires burning to add to the relaxed ambience. Utterly ravenous, we opted to share three starters between the two of us: Smoked Salmon, deep fried brie wedges and garlic mushrooms. All three came in generous portions, accompanied by sliced, buttered bread and salad garnish, and were very tasty. The smoked salmon in particular, was excellent. Interestingly, the brie was coated in a light batter (as opposed to the more prevalent breadcrumbs), but was perfectly cooked and quite lovely. For main course, my companion had the steak and ale pie: a huge portion which she enjoyed, although the pastry crust was pretty sturdy. I opted for the fillet steak, which was definitely not the best piece of fillet I've eaten: quite thin and lacking taste, but was perfectly cooked as requested. To finish we shared a piece of warm chocolate fudge cake with ice cream, which was a little disappointing as it was a little dry and definitely not home made. The restaurant is advertising 25% off of lunch and evening main meals, with the exception of steaks. On the face of it this looks like a great deal, and our very helpful waitress went to the trouble to stress that the steak wasn't included in the offer, both when she brought the menus and when we ordered. Which is, of course, fine. However what we should have realised, but didn't, was that this offer didn't include starters. Again: it's my fault entirely for not clocking this, and as a result I was quite surprised when the bill was only reduced by just over £3. It took me a moment to work out that it was because it was only the steak & ale pie that qualified for the discount. Caveat emptor etc...The bill in total (including the above, plus a sparkling water and two pints of Aspalls) rolled in at pennies under £75, which just felt a *little bit* pricey for a pub meal. A special mention must go to our fabulous waitress Michelle, who was friendly and attentive, and happily accomodated our requests for slight changes (e.g. mash rather than chips with the pie and onion rings rather than peas with the steak). It's also probably also worth mentioning that the restaurant has an extensive vegetarian menu, which whilst not of particular interest to meat-eaters should definitely be explored by those of you who follow a meat free diet. So to summarise, food is generally pretty good (starters especially), with a warm and welcoming environment and fantastic staff. I'd happily return.

Hopefully the service problems have been sorted now as the pub deserves customers during this difficult time. Would certainly revisit if I lived locally.

After asking a local to reccomend somewhere for a meal and was told about this place we rang to book in for a table for 4 adults. The lady said we are almost fully booked but have a table in front of the bar so we accepted. On arrival we said we had booked and gave our name and 2 mature ladies seemed very confused with our booking.so i helped out by saying you booked us a table in front of the bar .. they had put 4 adults on a small table fit for 2 .. ridiculous and impossible to fit four plates on .. alarm bells rang telling me maybe we should leave but thought we'd stay and give it a chance. It was like a circus from start to finish. The team seemed very confused and unorganised and flustered all night as we sat listening to other tables arrive. When the meals came out to us .. omg over cooked beef poor excuse for roast potatoes .. .. what a disappointment. Definately wouldn't give it a 2nd chance. Sorry guys. In my opinion maybe dont over book more than you can manage cos less customers coming in may prove better service and better food resulting in people wanting to come back. This place was recommended as having a wide variety of vegetarian meals so we thought we would give it a go. Sat in the conservatory which was smoky from the open fire. Every time the front door opened, smoke billowed into the room. Service was quick, but the food was odd. Nut roast had an underlying cheesy taste (very unpleasant) and was covered in tinned chopped tomatoes and then served with gravy!! Kids had veggie toad in the hole, but the Yorkshire puds were cold and rubbery. Husband who isn’t veggie had braised steak and whilst it was lean it was rather dry for something which was meant to be braised. Pudding was better but the custard had an odd grainy texture. Best part of £70 parted with for microwaved, unpleasant tasting food. Not a place we will come back to I’m afraid. Shame as has such potential.

This lovely Inn was a terrific find. We really enjoyed our visit. It was HOMELY and had a traditional Inn feel to it. It was clean and well presented. We felt at home in this warm and relaxed atmosphere from the start. The STAFF were warm, friendly and helpful throughout our visit. They took our food allergies seriously and advised us accordingly. There was also a bold and laminated card propped up on the table asking diners with ALLERGIES to notify staff. A plentiful selection of VEGAN AND VEGETARIAN dishes formed a substantial part of the menu. All dishes appeared to be HOMEMADE and our Spinach Pie, with wholemeal pastry certainly was. It was a huge piece of pie and tasted delicious. Our Chilli Chick Pea dish had just the right amount of chilli and was very tasty. There was an irresistible choice of dessert. We chose a Vegan Fruit Cake and chocolate Cheese Cake both with ice cream. Both were gorgeous. So much so that we were tempted to buy another portion of cake to take home! What a fabulous model for modern menu choices this Inn provided. We felt that it demonstrated a flexibility and imagination that’s sadly, not often seen in other establishments but which would be so beneficial for diners with diverse dietary needs; particularly when groups of people get together. We gave a personal score of 10/10 to this wonderful Inn. We found it suitable for disabled people who require a level floor; for those with allergies, as well as those with a wide range of dietary needs.

We walked to this pub for an early evening drink on new year's eve. A good number of people were there, but staff were friendly. Our dog was welcome in the bar area on his lead. The beer (Adams) was in excellent condition. We were glad we visited as it started off our celebrations in a good way.

This is our second visit here and as before it did not disappoint! Had a small wait on arrival, but the staff were lovely. We ordered our drinks at the bar and was shown a table. The menu choices were fabulous, I was impressed by the number of veggie options. (My sister who is a veggie will be very happy when we bring her here). Food order was taken promptly and it arrived in adequate time. Children’s portions were a good size and plenty of vegetables served. Taste wise, hubby said his turkey roast was a little bland, but the children and I found our fish beautiful. Will definitely be back.

Been to the Brick Kilns twice now with a year in between and both times had a nice evening with decent beer, good house wine and a good meal. It's not a "top end gastropub", it's a country pub that does food well and at a reasonable price. The menu is good and varied with lots of fish, meat and a HUGE veggie menu. The staff were very welcoming. All in all a nice evening out with freinds.

Extensive vegetarian menu really impressed me. I opted for the nut roast. Efficient waitresses however the nut roast was a thick nut omelette with absolutely no seasoning. The tomato sauce with it was fried onion and a tin of plum tomatoes and once again no seasoning or herbs. I told the waitress and no-one came back so we paid at the bar as we left. Asked how the meal was I said that I found it bland. She apologised and said that she has a lot of chefs. i guess i must of got the cleaner! She continued with the payment. When she handed my card back she asked if I'd eaten it all and I said "no, I'd left most it." She then said "Oh if I'd known I wouldn't have charged you" Appalling customer service.

My daughter & I arrived to a full carpark."This looks good " she said happily..(since it was her treat to me).Inside also appeared good, tables full, buzz of conversation. We stood at the bar & waited ages to be attended to.Indiscriminate attention to those waiting-then--to access our room we had to wait whilst a table of diners interrupted their meal to allow us access to the door.Same on re-entering restaurant to eat.The service was ok. The soup was nice,The main course virtually inedible,L's was veggie..also inedible.Safe icecream dessert. We accessed our room feeling disappointed. The loo was down steps and had a key.We retired and L turned over & bed collapsed! I was in shock as she lay there jammed right down in the wood, worried in case of injury. One Staff eventually found & apologised but simply put slats back in.No room for mattress on floor. My bed creaked...could not risk it..No other rooms. We decided to go.Drove looking for other accommodation...none so had to drive back home.Horrible horrible place.I believe L got a refund for the nigh'ts stay.It still wasn't worth it!!!!!

Stopped here for a quick bite in the evening whilst passing through. Limited menu, I had pie and chips. It was hot and tasty so no complaints. I sat at a small corner table and when I went to put my bag on the floor my elbow got caught up in a whole nest of cobwebs that ran floor to ceiling. Moved to a different table and when I looked at the carpet it was glistening with slug slime! Yes you read that right!! Trails and trails of slug slime all over the carpet. I went to put my bag on the chair next to me. The chairs are covered with faded pink felt like fabric that would have been all the rage in the 70s but it was thick with long hairs all trapped in the fabric. The window sills were covered with dead flies. The bar man - am I allowed to say man in these politically correct times?? The bar person / server was however very friendly, welcoming and polite. Very depressing place, definitely needs a clean and makeover.

We had a spontaneous trip out and stopped at the Maltsters Pub , we were hungry so decided to order the Roast Beef. Oh my God was it good, the Beef melted in the mouth and it looked as good as it tasted. Staff were friendly and did their very best to look after us while we were there.
