We had a fantastic birthday lunch for my Mum. Staff members Poppy, Nicole, Carolyn and Abbie were very helpful and attentive, which made the visit very enjoyable! I had the signature burger with a side of halloumi fries; both were fantastic. My mum had the steak pie, which you can’t go wrong with, as it comes with a good portion of veg. My dad had the toad in the whole which was from the specials; it does lack veg, however he said it was great. For dessert, we had a sticky toffee pudding and a trio of dessert which we shared among us. They also made a board with a small bit of brownie that said Happy birthday on. Like i have said, the service was great and so was the food!!

I make it back to Norwich from Australia every couple of years, and a Sunday lunch at the Rushcutters has become a bit of a tradition. This time around it was just my father and I, and it didn’t disappoint - from the excellent service by Lucy and Sophie down to the perfect roast beef and cosy table, it was everything that I was looking for. I also loved the ‘mini pudding + coffee’ option for dessert - it was perfectly sized and the best ending to an excellent meal.

Good afternoon. We are long term over 30 years loyal customers of the Rushcutters Norwich. We were so dumfounded to have received this mid week 2 for £20 mains offer from across your menu. Direct from the Rushcutters itself. The Rushcutters is the only C&B in our area. We are pensioners and always look forward to your offers as this enables us to actually get out as well as have an enjoyable meal which we can otherwise not afford to do. We have always enjoyed our visits to this wonderful location all seasons round. We are so dismayed and very surprised that this offer only went live 11/9 and you said nothing about closing the Rushcutters pub for refurbishment. We have attempted to book online since the 11/9 through to when the offer ends. We received an email today saying you are closing the Rushcutters 15/9 for refurbishment. We have also tried booking this offer right up to the end date of the offer. It comes up no availability. Thus you knowingly expect the Rushcutters Norwich to be closed throughout this offer period. Your phones too have only gone to digital assistant these past 2 days. A seemingly planned tactic. Clearly you were expecting a lot of calls from equally loyal and disappointed customers. This is not a good PR move. If you would like to pay a taxi fare we are more than happy to go out of county. Otherwise I feel very strongly you should extend this offer past the date you reopen the Rushcutters Norwich.

Nice river. Unfortunately the worst Sunday roast I’ve eaten in 10 years. Really bad food. The roast at an NHS hospital is 100% better. Beef looked better than the pork. **Review:** I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. My friends and I have tried to dine here twice, and on both occasions, we were turned away with the same excuse: "We only honor bookings due to technical issues in the kitchen." While I understand that issues can arise, it seems like a poor excuse when half of the restaurant is clearly empty. It's obvious that the real problem is a lack of staff and poor management. The fact that this has happened twice now makes it clear that this is not a one-time issue but rather a recurring problem. If they can't handle walk-ins, they should at least be honest about it. We won't be trying to come back a third time. There are plenty of other places that actually appreciate their customers and are honest about their situation. Save yourself the time and avoid this place unless you want to be turned away at the door with a lame excuse.

Great location, miserable staff. The Rushcutters is the closest pub to where we live, and given the location by the beautiful river we’d love to be able to call this place “our local”. But every single time we decide to give it another chance we just wonder why we bother. The staff all seem completely miserable every time. They seem annoyed if you come in for just a drink, rather than ordering food too, yet I have never been advised that it is for diners only. I am shocked at how busy they remain considering the attitude of the staff. Either they’re treating their other, higher paying, customers better or people just put up with the service for the great location. I do usually like to point out the odd staff member that was good when I leave a not so glowing review, but unfortunately after living here for 2 years I haven’t found one. Skip the bad attitudes and head to the River Garden down the road, there you’ll find friendly faces, a lovely spot by the river and great pub food. I just want to say that I honestly feel bad writing such a negative review, but we have given this place so many chances and every single time we’ve been met with the same reception. The three stars I’ve given are based on location, beautiful views and the general aesthetic of the building.

A disappointing dinning experience! Pub is pleasant enough and staff efficient enough. Shown to the table, presented the menu and specials menu to be told there’s only one item available of the specials, ok, not a massive problem. Server came to take are order and one of the party had decide on the mixed grill, oh! sorry that’s not available either. Still serving steaks, chicken, gammon and sausages but not mixed grill!! ok, they picked something else. Two other people then picked the one special that was available. After twenty or so minutes a member of staff then came to advise us they run out of asparagus! Would they accept mixed veg as an alternative. The meals we did get looked ok, portion size a bit on the small size for the money. Specials came with chips, all ‘four’ of them plus a burnt offering which we couldn’t identify what it was. What we did get was cooked well enough in all fairness. Considering the final bill just felt disappointed. Doubt i would go back.

Used to love this place especially on a hot summers day , vibe is good ,staff are nice ,however the food was appalling and very pricey , as it was a warm day ,we wanted a salad , not really much to choose from ,so I opted for a starter salmon slices in abit of rocket lettuce and a small segment of orange , my friends had some sort of brie salad , hardly anything on their plates, they said the croutons tasted stale or not very nice , put them off ,it was also about 15 pounds each for a tiny amount , about the same size as my starter and that was 10 pounds ,and small . we did complain and they did the right thing and didn't charge us for our meals, we went somewhere else to eat .Which is a shame as everything else was good .

It’s just really bad. I had a steak and it was truly dreadful, as if they were following (or had even written) the 101 of how not to cook a steak. Unseasoned, unrested (which meant blood spilled all over my plate), over cooked and very chewy. It was only 20 quid so you can’t expect much but I would have hoped for better. There was no point in feeding back to the staff and they all looked very uninterested and unengaged. I could have sent it back but was short on time and didn’t really want to have a new plate of rubbish. On a positive note the grilled tomato was quite nice, at least it tasted of tomato. Plenty of far better places for less money.

My kids also enjoyed their meals just as much as I. I will definitely go there again when I visit Norwich again next week. On a busy sunny weekend you'd expect a bar this size, next to a river, to have more than one member of staff on the bar. You'd probably also expect someone to collect glasses for them. All the staff here were absolutely slammed busy with no support. Took nearly 20 minutes to order food and food was really wetherspoony in its presentation and flavour but pretty premium in price. If this bar doesn't start supporting it's front of house workers through the summertime they are going to leave for some other place that does. For somewhere held in such high regard, I sense the Rushcutters is resting on its laurels right now. Must improve.

I have been three times in the past three weeks to use up vouchers. The first time I ordered fish and a white wine sauce which was supposed to be served with seasonal Asparagus and Buttered new potatoes. It was actually served with over cook roasted new potatoes that look like they had been cooked and reheated, alongside that was one tiny sprig of hard brocolli, mainly stem. The sauce could have barely been a dessert spoonful. £18.99 My friend had the pie and said it was okay, so dont know if she was being polite. The second time with another friend, I warned her to probably go for steak as the meals hadnt been too good. We both had the sirloin, one medium rare and one medium. Both blue/rare. Trying to ask for the steaks to be cooked a little more was a no go. We were just ignored. £18.99 I think Third time was with my Son, He had a ciabatta which was alrightish he said. I had a small salmon fish cake topped with an exploded, no yoke left, (microwaved?) poached egg. Tiny bit of salad and mayo. £10.99!!!! Again, couldnt get any attention.... Never again!!! It was very expensive and the food was ruined. The only part of the food that was edible and okay was the white fish.....

Did not disappoint! Another lovely meal with my son when he came back from deployment. As usual he did not pay, but still lovely to see him!! Food was lovely, new menu so lots of new dishes to try.

From time to time we try the Rushcutters again, in the hope that it has improved. Unfortunately, we were disappointed again, after arriving at 7.00pm, we finally had our order taken at 7.30, with a 30 minute wait for food, which for one of our party was inedible (how can you go so wrong with cod and chips? It was extremely overcooked, and very little cod left in the middle). This was promptly replaced, and was taken off the bill without us having to ask (thank you for that). Sadly, as others have commented, with such a historic building in a beautiful setting, this should be so much better than we have experienced it to be. We had to prompt staff to come and serve us, and while some of the service was good, it is lacking that warm welcome and attention to detail that many other places can offer.

The fish was bony and the batter soggy would not recommend. And had to wait for it to be cooked .

Stopped here for a quick bite in the evening whilst passing through. Limited menu, I had pie and chips. It was hot and tasty so no complaints. I sat at a small corner table and when I went to put my bag on the floor my elbow got caught up in a whole nest of cobwebs that ran floor to ceiling. Moved to a different table and when I looked at the carpet it was glistening with slug slime! Yes you read that right!! Trails and trails of slug slime all over the carpet. I went to put my bag on the chair next to me. The chairs are covered with faded pink felt like fabric that would have been all the rage in the 70s but it was thick with long hairs all trapped in the fabric. The window sills were covered with dead flies. The bar man - am I allowed to say man in these politically correct times?? The bar person / server was however very friendly, welcoming and polite. Very depressing place, definitely needs a clean and makeover.

We had a spontaneous trip out and stopped at the Maltsters Pub , we were hungry so decided to order the Roast Beef. Oh my God was it good, the Beef melted in the mouth and it looked as good as it tasted. Staff were friendly and did their very best to look after us while we were there. We will be coming back to try more, my waistline may not thank me though. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos of my food as I was hungry and tucked in!

We have used Honningham Buck regularly over the past 30 years and seen many people come and go. Very few were bad. However our last 3 visits have left us disappointed and after tonight’s visit it is unlikely we will return for the foreseeable! The choice on menu is very poor. Everything on offer is over exaggerated basic food! The starter, scotch egg with piccalilli was the best offering, but no where near as good as it used to be? Our main meal sounded great on the menu, but in actual fact consisted of piece of chicken in breadcrumbs on a flatbread with some shriveled mushroom, fermented cabbage, and a chopped up chilli. The quality was poor, and the flavour very unpleasant! Dessert, I chose a Bakewell and pistachio tart with mascarpone and I requested ice cream instead of sorbet. Thank goodness I did! The tart was tasteless and the mascarpone was laughable…it looked like the top of a baby gem!! Literally a teaspoon! What’s happened to the delicious food that used to be on offer here? There is no quality to the food served. It’s certainly not what it used to be!
