The food was OK. It didn't appear to be fresh from the kitchen and looked a little dry. I found the portion size and dryness disappointing considering the cost of the dish. There was also a black hair which can be seen beside the gravy jug in the attached photo. The staff didn't seem very positive. It may have been a busy afternoon.

I had the steak and ale pie which was more like fat and ale pie, nice looking pie, almost empty except for gravy and a few pieces of chewy fatty (meat), would not recommend. My son (20) had the burger which he devoured, it looked and tasted great (his words).

Really pleasant staff, great food, lovely interior. I believe there has been a recent makeover and the overall effect is great, very "country pub" by the river on the edge of Norwich. We sat inside at a good sized table with very comfortable chairs, plenty of room for the four of us. Outside there was plenty of seating with tables and a buzzing vibrant atmosphere. Hand battered fish and chips, Duo of chicken, Classic burger and a Crispy chicken burger were chosen and enjoyed. The staff were all very busy but all smiling and ready for a joke/ chat but still professional. We shall definitely return.

I don't have too much to say about this place other than it's now a huge disappointment. I used to like coming here, food used to be decent, and it was an ideal spot by the river to enjoy a cold pint on a hot day. However, over the years, I've found myself visiting less as it just isn’t what it used to be. On my most recent visit, it was nearly empty, but the staff's vibe really made the place feel abandoned, echoing with the silence of once better days. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but as we headed outside to sit down, I noticed the two staff members exchange a look that felt like a mutual, unspoken, "Oh look, another customer... great." It was as if we'd walked into someone's living room uninvited. This time we barely looked over the menu before deciding to leave, probably won't be coming back here again.

Went for early dinner. Beautiful pub right on the river, unfortunately it was raining so we sat inside. Food was good, didn't like the mayonnaise as it was that horrible low calorie stuff that they pass off as mayonnaise. Very good apple tart would have been so much better if the pastry was crispy and not soft and why oh why would you decorate something like that with pea shoots!!!

What a night, we had some lovely food, wonderful service with a single exception but that was soon rectified - the persons frown just needed to be turned upside down and it was with the aid of some kind of comedic genius/ waiting fella. There was a rumour being actively spread in the beer garden (not started by me and my table of course) that another member of the wait staff had eaten a cookie, he claimed innocence as he wiped the crumbs away, or it could have been an itch, but on close up inspection from 15m away, it was most definitely crumbs. The police were called, but on insisting that the FBI were needed not a day to day copper, they hung up. Crimes aside, what a lovely warm atmosphere the staff waiting generated, so lovely and really made our night, I'm fact, had they asked we would have brought them a packet of cookies so they didn't pinch the cookie right from under our noses, because they deserved them. Oh also there was a bloke called Ben, I didn't know his actual role in the evening but he was a chirpy fella and was insistent that we knew his name. Key points Bar lady - smile more, you have a very pretty face and it's a lovely place to be 7/10 The " alleged" cookie monster - friendly and hard working 10/10 Comedic waiting man- ill call you simon 10/10 Bloke called Ben keen to engage but not really sure why you were talking to us 9/10 Thanks all xx

The atmosphere was lovely especially as we went on a warm spring evening. The service was fast and all staff were friendly. My partner love his food and said the meat was cooked perfectly! My burger was incredibly tasty however… When my burger arrived the portion of chips I had was questionable. If I’m paying over £15 for a burger and chips I’m hoping to get a decent portion not a child’s portion. (The photo attached is how my burger came)

It’s such a shame this pub has such a beautiful location but the food is abysmal. Previously went and my mum had the lamb shank shepherds pie. It was mostly a shank bone and a think layer of mash on top. So dry and terrible. Just went again and just had three terrible meals, stingy portions of chips, half of it overcooked. Really disappointing. I have had better meals at Wetherspoons but there at least you’re paying half the price.

I hate writing negative reviews but unfortunately this place totally misses the mark and as a local it’s so disappointing to not have a great local pub and restaurant so close. It’s by the river and on a warm summers day it should be a hot spot. Sure it’s busy, but the location is all it has going for it. Not the first time we’ve tried and we thought we’d give it another go but honestly, it was service without a smile, overpriced drinks (and menu) Food was totally sub par and poor portions. There was even someone else complaining about the food at the the bar at the same time we were ordering and the staff couldnt care less (apart from maybe the manager over hearing the conversation) The burger came with a measly portion of lukewarm warm fries, the burger tasted like it has been sitting in grease and the chefs platter was not tasty. It just feels like a big missed opportunity and another huge chain maximising profits over customer satisfaction. The area is missing a killer pub so it’s a shame. Please do better!

Sadly, third time wasn't a charm. I want to like this pub as it is delightful, however, yet again, the food was pretty awful. Roast vegetable tart served with roast new potatoes and a seasonal salad = soggy bottom pastry case filled with what seemed to be a couple of peas and asparagus slices in thick onion bisto, with a few sunflower seed thrown on top; half a dozen oily, leathery potatoes; two thin slices of cucumber atop a dessert-spoon of rocket garnished with a few radish slices. Gnocchi was off, I'd tried the Garden Medley, and the vegetable Grill, which were both barely adequate, so was hoping for something worth eating. No, not today.

We arrived on a Sunday evening to be told we have no beef or turkey which was very disappointing ,so we looked through the very limited Sunday menu and decided on the beef and ale pie. The waitress came back to us a few minutes later to tell us there was only one pie left which my husband had. I picked the roast pork dinner which I can only describe as basic, the roast potatoes were from the freezer the swede and carrot mash was very sparse, I think I got a teaspoon full so on the whole a very disappointing meal.

AWFUL food!! Literally the worst Sunday roast I've ever had, I almost thought it was a joke when the waiter (who looked embarrassed to serve it) brought it over. Literally a teaspoon of Sweden mash, 2 tiny dried up slices of beef, dried up pieces of rock hard roast potatoes, and some very aneamic looking sausages which were meant to pass for pigs in blankets... all for the low low price of 17 pounds a head!!. I had heard good things about this place and was very much looking forward to it... now I'll be looking for somewhere else to go on a Sunday instead. Very disappointing, and unfortunately I will be telling people not to bother to come here.

Last night we went for a meal at the NEW Rushcutters. Underwhelming was perhaps the best word to use to describe the experience. Five people in the party two of which had birthdays and each member, without prompting, said they would not return. The Chefs Board tasted of grease and very little else. The Garden Medley as a main course looked more like a starter portion and whilst my partner's sisters Steak & Ale Pie was huge it was mostly gravy and pastry, she also said it tasted of Bisto and was convinced the accompanying potato was powdered. All the chips and onion rings were luke warm on the dishes. At no point did anyone check how our food was. Two hours later and all I could still taste was grease. We paid the bill and left. It's a shame..........

When the food came we ordered more drinks. There was no sign of drinks 20 minutes later. The young waitress was saying she’s the only one who works around here and she’d see what she could do? Got fed up waiting so I went to the bar where there were 3 people not doing much? We eventually got our drinks but it ruined our visit. Unfortunately this time my partner had the mixed grill which was barely warm ,actually the steak I tried was cold ! Unable to get the attention of the very busy staff meant him eating a cold dinner and no opportunity to be able to do anything because he would then be eating alone , not ideal for a romantic dinner together, my food was good but i felt frustrated for him . Just returned from the Rush cutter following a very poor meal. My daughter had a chicken fillet in a burger which was wafer thin, and the sauce which was supposed to be with was missing, my so called Lamb shank shepherds pie was basically a shank pushed into a watery mash and then burnt, it arrived black. I did say to the server that I was surprised the chef put it on the pass, and even more surprised that the manager brought it to the table without any comment. They were both returned, as was not edible, they removed both from our bill, but meant I went home hungry, and it spoilt our visit. More effort should be taken to provide well cooked tasty food. Will not be rushing back, not for some time.

Great evening at the town house. Food was lovely and the staff are so friendly and helpful especially Mark, he went out of his way to make it a lovely birthday meal, when a rendition of Happy birthday was had. He helped with my mums food by cooking something off the menu to satisfy her needs. Entertained the kids with colouring books and pens and an asset to the town house.

The Cottage Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience overall, with some minor but notable areas for improvement. The standout positives were the quality of the food and the exceptional service. Our server was incredibly polite and friendly, making us feel welcome and attended to throughout our meal. The food itself was also fantastic; each dish was well-prepared and delicious, showcasing the kitchen's skill and attention to detail. However, the restaurant's bar area needs some attention. There appears to be no formal queuing system, which led to a frustrating free-for-all where patrons pushed in front of others. Implementing a clear queuing system would greatly improve the customer experience in this area. Additionally, I have a small suggestion regarding the prawn baguette. While the filling was delicious, cutting the baguette completely in half caused the sauce to spill out, making it quite messy to eat. Perhaps cutting it partially or serving it whole would prevent this issue. Despite these minor drawbacks, I would still recommend The Cottage Restaurant for its excellent food and service. Addressing the bar's queuing issue and modifying the baguette presentation would elevate the experience from very good to truly outstanding. I look forward to returning and hope to see these improvements implemented.

Stopped here for a quick bite in the evening whilst passing through. Limited menu, I had pie and chips. It was hot and tasty so no complaints. I sat at a small corner table and when I went to put my bag on the floor my elbow got caught up in a whole nest of cobwebs that ran floor to ceiling. Moved to a different table and when I looked at the carpet it was glistening with slug slime! Yes you read that right!! Trails and trails of slug slime all over the carpet. I went to put my bag on the chair next to me. The chairs are covered with faded pink felt like fabric that would have been all the rage in the 70s but it was thick with long hairs all trapped in the fabric. The window sills were covered with dead flies. The bar man - am I allowed to say man in these politically correct times?? The bar person / server was however very friendly, welcoming and polite. Very depressing place, definitely needs a clean and makeover.
