First time visiting, very unique and cosy place, so large too. Had lasagna, but it felt too fatty and my stomach didn't like it. Other people ordered mixed grill and steak, which they were ok with is, just steak seemed chewy. Dessert was definitely best thing.

Don’t go here, would give zero stars. Summary: Poor table service Uncooperative staff Bad bar service Genuinely poor food Tiny servings for full price Waited to be seated for a long time. Friend booked for 9 people got a table for 8 Pushed to order drinks immediately even as people were sitting down. I ordered a bitter shandy as I thought we were having an early lunch. My bitter shandy arrived as just bitter. One taste confirmed they needed to clean the lines. Sent it back, Lemonade Syrup in the shandy clearly off. Bitter shandy is usually sweet and refreshingly bubbly this was flat and tasted odd. Our unexpected extra guests weren’t handled well at all they had to sit at the bar despite dozens of empty tables. Our main party hadn’t even taken off their coats or sat down before being rudely hassled for a food order. Told we had to order fast because breakfast had ended, so why accept the table booking minutes before breakfast service ended? When asked if we could order lunch instead, we were told “no, you have a breakfast booking”. We ordered breakfast. What arrived was not as advertised, farmers breakfast wouldn’t have filled the farmers dog let alone the farmer! A small pile of soggy eggs, potato, beans and cheese lumps arrived in a small dish. Half a plate of cold food for £8.50! My fiancés “avocado toast” was half a browning avocado, on ONE piece of stale cheap bread. Where’s the rest of the avocado? Where is the fresh sourdough? Could have at least been two pieces of stale bread and a whole browning avocado! Needless to say we didn’t give a tip. Just go to a greasy spoon for breakfast instead there you will be served fast by friendly staff and get large plates of good food at a reasonable price.

Really really poor. My family has come here for years but to say the service was bad is an understatement. Shocking in fact. We were made to feel like we should leave the entire time. We were there for a birthday celebration and their service made it an awful experience. Luckily the company was great which made up for it. As a previous worker in hospitality I like to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt but that was some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. 3 male middle-aged waiters were particularly rude and impersonal. Maybe training for the staff would be beneficial as they should remember they could be/are a part of someone else’s special day. Food was below average and I was left still hungry. I was going to have a dessert but after the way we were treated we just wanted to get out of there. Disgraceful.

A visit to the Rushcutters yesterday as we have on many occasions. Service was fabulous as usual, thank you..! A review for this visit as the food wasn't its usual standard - Steak and ale pie quality really wasn't great this time, chips were undercooked by a mile so had to leave these, the accompanying veg was hard...and the gravy jug was so small, well you couldn't have found a smaller one...We were asked if everything was O.K. with the food, and being British, smiled and said all was fine - Will we go again, yes we'll have another go later on as hopefully this was a one off..!

Have visited The Rushcutters many times previously but feel quality of food has dropped ! I chose lasagne & my husband had Pork belly off the Specials menu. We waited 25-30 minutes for our food to arrive & when it did my lasagne looked like it should have come out of oven 5-10 minutes earlier!! I spoke to waitress about it as top was quite black & her words were “ they often catch on the edges “ Husband’s pork he said was very greasy unfortunately. I don’t think we will be returning.

Staff woefully unprofessional, very rude to us. I strongly recommend steering well clear of this place if you value good service and a friendly atmosphere. The bar staff in particular set new standards for how poor “service” can get. Just a shame google reviews make me give them one star as they did nothing to deserve it. There are numerous very friendly pleasant welcoming places nearby, do yourselves a favour and pick those instead.

The camambere sharer starter, best I have ever had. Love the additional bits of cucumber, ham terrine, onion marmalade chicken gousions Amazing, slight downside (so not perfect), The rocket was very wilted, and crouton slices not many of them, I had steak, rib eye which unfortunately was quite tough. My partner had chicken pie which he loved. My sessert was mini and hot drink, small piece cheesecake and coffee - perfect. Setting of this pub, right by the river, Amazing. Service was fast and spot on. Thank you xx

I've been to this pub several times in the past and have always been happy with everything and the food has always been very good and tasty Yesterday's visit just wasn't up to normal standards primarily because there seemed to be less food on my plate than you would normally get with the pork belly, even though it was very tasty. If it wasn't for my partner giving me some of her food, I would have left feeling hungry. Could have been a one off, but I'm a bit reluctant to go again now.

To say that this pub has been quite a special place for our family over a few decades, my Dad was a boatbuilder at an old, now gone, boat yard. We spent many occasions there. Even family friends ran the pub for many years. Seen changes happen there, but always felt like it was a place to reflect on happy memories. So, I feel saddened to write this review. It was our daughter's birthday and she had asked specifically to go there to celebrate. I have mobility issues and had recently upped my medication. On arrival I actually felt a bit unwell due to this and felt really hot. It didn't help that we were seated near a radiator. We asked if the three of us could move. No was the answer but they did turn the radiator down. There was an empty six seater table next to us. Later it only had three people sat there. The waiting staff did seem flustered and rushing about, didn't seem organised. There wasn't any charisma at all from anyone. It felt chaotic. There wasn't much choice on the menu for us. We are pescetarians. We did make a mistake of not realising the Sunday menu would be different. My daughter and I had the sea bass with scallops pea and mint risotto. Scallops seemed raw, Sea bass wasn't cooked well and the skin wasn't crispy. My husband had a veg burger with two slimey onions rings and a handful of limp fries. Deserts were better, although I did say twice it is my daughter's birthday can you do something with her dessert, alot of places would have put a candle in or sing happy birthday or something, But nothing.. What I did witness when the table of six which was three, left, an older gentleman came to clean and reset the table with cutlery. He handled every fork by the prongs and knives by the blade and on two occasions he picked bits off the forks wiped with his fingers and placed on the table ready for the unknowing customer to use. This made me feel sick 🤢 I was glad to leave. Will not be going back in a hurry. The only thing it has going for it; is the pretty building with a beautiful setting shame that's not reflected by the staff, service and food. We all had a bit of a dodgy tummy the next day Tried to call but you get Claire an automated person. She seemed friendly enough. 🙏🏽🤦♀️🤣 Come on get your act together.

I booked a table for three on Christmas Eve and we were hoping for a good evening prior to Christmas. Unfortunately this was not to be. We ordered three sirloin steaks. Two out of three were cooked incorrectly. My steak was of poor quality and inedible. To top it all off all the food was cold. None of us enjoyed our meals. I think the staff were embarrassed to serve the food. I have no complaints about the service staff who were as always friendly. Whilst the steaks were deducted from the bill our evening was ruined, and not the happy start to Christmas that we expected. We bought a Chinese meal on the way home and wished we had done this in the first place. Other family members have told me that they had also complained about food quality recently. As a local family we have noticed that the food standards have dropped over recent months. We will not be eating at the Rushcutters anytime in the near future.

Christmas dinner was revolting! I had goats tart for a starter. The pastry wasn’t cooked! It’s sad state of affairs when they can’t even cook a simple roast dinner correctly! And served it cold! Been here a twice in the past month and I wanted to try food a second time before leaving a review in the hopes that is was a one off, but the food again, wasn't great. To start with the positives, I do love the location. It has a very nice feel to it, along with a lovely outside area and view. The staff are always friendly but I would probably say just friendly is about as far as that goes. Not complaining at all, I just find the service never particularly stands out. The food however is just not great. First meal we had was a roast and the only way I can describe it is 'school dinner'. The meat was tough and over cooked. I am not a fan of the vegetable selection that goes with it either, but that is probably just personal preference. The roast potatoes weren't at all crispy and quite hard on the inside which was very disappointing. Hardly any gravy, the gravy we did have was extremely watery. It was all edible though and I was super hungry so I did eat a good amount of it. I've got to say, the cauliflower cheese was really nice and the crackle was pretty good too. Second time we went I had the Salmon Florentine. The salmon was so overcooked. I don't normally judge too much on this as I find its quite often the case when eating out as people worry too much about undercooking, but this was very overcooked. The skin wasn't crispy in the slightest. The hollandaise sauce was actually really nice other and the poached egg was perfectly runny. This made the salmon decent to eat. The roasted baby potatoes were soooo hard and just not great. My boyfriend had a steak which he asked for medium rare, but came out well done. I did suggest asking for a new one but he said to leave it as we had a lot to do, so I am not really complaining too much on this as I'm sure they might have given him a new one. We had a side of halloumi fries both times which were really nice and the cheesy garlic bread was decent too. I will definitely come back and try the food again as I do love the location and there has been a couple of parts of the meal that I have really enjoyed both times.
