The Cottage in Broadland

I ordered the seared chicken breast with thyme sauce, ratatouille, and fondant potato. What I received was a couple of slices of damp reheated chicken, a brown dehydrated lump of potato that tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for days and then reheated for too long, some watery ratatouille (it's really not that difficult to make it decent), no thyme sauce, just everything covered with instant gravy. What sort of chef serves ratatouille with instant gravy? I'm guessing it was to cover up that what lied beneath was not what was described on the menu. The instant gravy didn't even appear to any thyme added to it. I won't be rushing back.

Great family roast lunch menu. Great service as always and delicious food. Alway well looked after here by great staff and Fantastic Ian and Lorainne.

Staff very helpful, food lovely & fresh, plenty of car parking

Having been to the Cottage previously on a few occasions, we thought that it would be a fitting place for a long overdue gathering of Family & Friends. (We actually attempted this a couple of years back but due to last minute illness it never happened) Both F & F were looking forward to sampling what my OH & I had been raving about for the past year or so. We arrived earlier than planned & as our table was ready we were able to be seated straight away. Our server was the lovely “Lilly Alice” & nothing was too much trouble from the start. As it had been a while since all being together we were so busy chatting & catching up that she came to us several times before we had made our minds up of what we were going to have. We ordered food & drinks (eventually) & the banter had started & Lilly was more than happy to join in, (it seems there were a couple of would be comedians in our group!) Drinks arrived & we were more than happy to carry on chatting in the lovely dining area. As we had a Vegan in our party & someone who was a bit particular on food choices, the selection of food was very good indeed. Also we asked if it was possible that once of the meals to be cooked in a particular way, & honestly nothing was to much trouble. Lilly kept us informed thoroughly throughout our time waiting Then the main event, that being that the meals, started to arrive. Then there was a lull on our chat as we started to devour our wonderful meals. Lilly was very attentive & asked on a couple of occasions if everything was ok & to our liking. Nothing was ever too much trouble. From start to finish our visit to The Cottage was perfect. Family from London & friends from Liverpool all thoroughly enjoyed their visit & have already said they’d like to return. Everything was so pleasant from beginning to end. The bar staff, the dining area, & the servers too. Then the cleanliness of the dining area & indeed the rest rooms, this all adds up to a 10/10 visit. Please can we ask that you thank again, on our behalf, the lovely & attentive server to our table that is Lilly Alice. She really is a Gem & I’m sure that you appreciate all her hard work too. (Thank her again for taking some group photos too!) Thank you so much to all the Staff (including the talented Chefs too) for making The Cottage an excellent place to eat. We will be back!!!

I've been in Norwich for five years and this was my first visit to The Cottage, literally a hidden gem with its beautiful location away from the main roads and recommendations from friends and colleagues brought me here on my birthday The staff were friendly and welcoming and the interior was light and spacious. We had generous portions of Chilli con carne which came with light, fluffy basmati rice and tortilla chips with dips on the side, this dish was absolutely spot on, just the right amount of spiciness followed by a gorgeously smooth and refreshing Lemon posset with homemade shortbread, my partner had the raspberry cheesecake which was a good size too Very reasonably priced, great value and quite a few customers throughout our visit, plenty of parking, we will definitely be back soon

Our second time here for lunch. Everything about the cottage is wonderful. The food, staff and the friendliness shown. Will definitely be back soon.

Me and my partner visited here one Tuesday night in July as a spur of the moment date night. We arrived about 5:30pm and the car park was quite empty. We walked in and erte greeted my smiley, helpful staff who found us a table out of the way. The waitress was smart and professional and couldn't do enough for us. We both had different meals and the portion sizes were more than enough. The food was hot and full of flavour. Very reasonable meal in a quiet relaxing atmosphere. Would definitely recommend thankyou.

It's a wonderful pub with the most fabulous food, generous portion sizes with lots of choice and the price very very reasonable. The atmosphere is very inviting. Every time I have been privileged with eating here I've felt welcomed and at home. The staff are friendly, very approachable and are always happy to help. I love it here and I would highly recommend it. X

Pretty decor and very clean throughout, with an expansive seated garden area. The staff were polite and attentive, with great understanding of their menu and happy to advise when asked. The food was delivered quickly despite the restaurant being very busy, and portion size was very generous as well as being delicious. I look forward to future visits to sample more of their menu!

Go every birthday for my dad and step mum and my husband and I, always a great tasty meal, we all have our favourites, great value and never go anywhere else now as we know what we are getting. Pet friendly in certain parts too, lovely staff.

A very nice establishment, bags of room throughout. The staff are helpful and very friendly. The meals are to die for......and very plentiful! It's my first meal here and I certainly will not hesitate to return.

Lovely pub ,lively food and good for parties

As part of a large party of around 15 people, I want to say how lovely I find your restaurant. Been many a time and would always give it top marks but today I had the Calcutta beef curry you were offering from the specials menu. For the fair price of £15, a huge portion of beef curry, rice, popodum, and naan, it was simply out of this world. Please do quote me here but it was genuinely the nicest beef curry I have ever had and I have been to many authentic Indian restaurants. This topped all of those by miles. Huge shout-out to the chef who made this. Staff brilliant as always too.

Met up with friends for lunch all meals looked and tasted good. GF available, plenty of parking.

Been several times now, great food, beer and service. Keep up the good work. :) Update: we've been a loyal customer for years now, however the recent price increases cannot justify a visit anymore. Appreciate times our tough for customers and businesses but the prices are now unaffordable unless for the rare occasion.

Went to party in side room and was lovely atmosphere

First visit for a Sunday roast although they seemed to have lots on the menu it isn't just roasts... Overall very pleased it is a lovely place, uncomplicated good food... The service was quick and the staff very friendly despite being extremely busy.... We booked a table over the phone and turned up half an hour later. There were a number of larger family groups, it seemed that they could accommodate larger groups, there was plenty of room .. In my opinion good value for money.... It has a carpark too and if it's busy the streets surrounding it seem to be able to accommodate the odd extra car so you shouldn't have a problem.... Dogs were in the pub it simply said well behaved dogs on leads welcome...

This place is amazing, can't keep away. Food is amazing, staff are amazing, place is always clean & always busy.

We came here for a Funeral Wake on April 26th 2024, but we were in the Function room next door to the pub. It was a very nice room and the Bar Staff were great. Everything went to plan. We did sit in the pub itself and it looked nice inside.

Went with children and grandparents. Well priced, generous portions and really good quality, tasty food (the ribs and chicken is definitely for you if you've got eyes bigger than your belly!). Will definitely be coming again when we're in the area 👍

Very good food. Huge portions. There is a limited choice of ales, generally all mainstream stuff, Neck Oil etc, these are quite pricey too. However if you're into your food and don't mind drinking something mainstream then it's a good pub.

I booked a room for a Wake. the staff were very friendly and sociable. Food was very good. I was pleased with everything. would highly recommend it in every way.

We live 5 doors away from this place which is lethal as we love the food, drink and staff so much! Definitely couldn't recommend enough and if you can get down there for Thursday night curry you're in for a cheap but tasty treat.

We love The Cottage. To be fair it is our local, so it is very convenient for us, but the food and staff are great. There’s always a welcoming vibe whenever we go.

We had our Bowls Club Christmas Dinner at the Cottage, the staff were excellent , friendly and very attentive. The food was awesome, clearly very fresh ingredients and piping hot which makes a change from other places. Vegetables were offered in abundance and anything requested was provided with no hesitation. Very satisfying meal, great atmosphere and lovely staff. We will happily return!

Our first visit to this pub/restaurant and it was excellent. We went for a late Sunday lunch and the food was great - very generous portions. Vegan options available - the nut roast was very tasty. Staff attentive and very friendly.

What a disappointing meal with friends. There were six of us in total & we were sat at a table that 4 would sit on, we asked if we could have a bigger table & were told ‘they cram you in like this so more people come’ we weren’t impressed to say the least. Our food arrived 3 of us had curry with the extras, the other 3 ate off of the main menu but every dish came with a side which was impossible to fit it all on the small table, we had to move stuff off the table & put on the floor, even our drinks which isn’t the ideal thing. One had the pork curry which was very dry with no sauce, 2 had the Thai green curry, bland with not much flavour & onion bhaji’s were very greasy, at least the other. 3 people had no complaints about their food. One of us had the Bakewell slice for dessert, again disappointing burnt on the top & was very dry so couldn’t eat, we did mention this to the waitress but again it fell on deaf ears, not an enjoyable evening & when you spend £120 you expect to enjoy it

Fancied a Sunday lunch, too much hard work to cook for one, so had one delivered from The Cottage. absolutely scrumptious. Plenty of Turkey, stuffing, sausage and huge Yorkshire pudding. Vegetables, roast potatoes and mash, loads of gravy. One disappointment I couldn’t eat it all lol . 😋😋😋 but won’t go to waste! Why cook? 😁 well worth the money.

Sorry but this is a hygiene “ NO No” Using the same glass again Customers walking back to the bar with their glasses and the staff reusing them . The beer spout lays on the inside of the glass where people saliva has sat . Not good practice Yuk Plus all the locals stand up the bar and you have to fight your way in ! Why do that . Make the bar area free , less intimidating . Under control Staff were very polite though 👍

What a find!! Excellent food and lovely friendly staff. Never been here before but we’ll definitely be returning. We all had something different to eat and all our meals were extremely tasty and there was loads of it! Brilliant.

We hosted a baby shower here today and it was truly amazing. Ian was very helpful and flexible with all the planning, our afternoon tea was incredibly delicious. Holly, their waitress even helped us setup a balloon arch! Thank you for making this day so special for everyone 💗

Local pub off the main road in some gardens. The pub has a main bar area, dining room and large outdoor area. Small selection of beers including 3 real ales on hand pump. The food is outstanding: one of the best places in Norwich for British pub food.

I went for afternoon tea for my birthday treat with 5 friends. I am a vegan. The food given to me had no thought out into it at all the amount of food was pitiful and a 5 year old could have done it. 4 tiny cheese and tomato sandwiches, 3 tiny vegan sausage rolls 2 chocolates and a 55p nomo chocolate bar. My friends food was a smorgasbord of delights. 5 choices of cakes cheese and fruit scones. Jam cream huge sausage rolls and 5 different types of cakes. To make matters worse I emailed a complaint and was totally ignored. I didn't complain on the day as it was my birthday treat.

As always had a great meal in our local. Surf and turf burger with loads of prawns on top. Great quality food and a friendly service. Not expensive either. Well worth a visit.

Had a do here on the 8th of august for my sons funeral. We arrived here at about 1 to 1.30 . After having a very emotional funeral. The food we ordered did not come out till 3 to 3.30 . Some people had left so had not had even a sandwich. Food when came out was not the best . Lots of food left over because of late delivery . I have always liked this place but feel let down . Have used them on 4 other occasions and it’s been good . This time I can say it was bad . Think it could only be not enough staff or they just wanted to make money on the bar . Definitely will not use them again not on that service . Emailed them had no answers as yet

So pleased to have excellent local pub close by. The service is always extremely friendly and efficient, lovely food at reasonable prices, definitely worth booking a table as they often are booked which can only be a positive thing.

Have only visited The Cottage as part of a wedding reception so couldn't comment on individual meals, but the buffet was very good, generous sized portions. The onion bhajis were excellent as were the meaty sausage rolls. Staff were welcoming and cheerful and very helpful.

Drinks pricey 11.80 for 2 pints . Food looked good

Visited here on a Tuesday evening for a family birthday meal. There were 11 adults and 2 children and we each had different meals. Large variety of meals on the menu and all food was served to us quickly and piping hot. Staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Meals were fantastically portioned best we've had out in a while and very well presented. Will definitely be returning here. Thankyou all so much.

We have bought Take away Sunday roasts from here. They are reasonable quality and value. They are always, however, let down by the roast potatoes.

Visited the cottage last night and received the warmest greeting and service from all staff visiting our table. The food is plentiful and very tasty - good home cooked food. I live locally and after several disappointing visits to other pubs in TSA will not go anywhere else. Well done the Cottage team - we love you x

An excellent Green Thai curry this Thurs - The Cottage weekly curry night (a choice of 4!) The usual high class friendly service you can always expect from The Cottage!
