Went for a roast dinner, after an hour of waiting we asked where our food was, to be told that our order never went through so they said to wait another 5 minutes. Food came out cold, the meat was cut so thick. Food sent back and money refunded. Table next to use also got a refund. Their till system is awful, no cash pub even though they have a fruit machine and pool table that require cash. Always having to wait ages for a drink as they seem to serve the restaurant side more than the bar side. No smoking shelter so have to stand out in the cold and rain. Yet they do let you vape inside the pub. Gender neutral toilets in the bar area which are awkward and disgusting. The atmosphere is great, just a shame the pub isn’t run very well.

We visited Sunday lunchtime, even though they were very busy we were seen quickly. We both had the roast beef with a side of cauliflower cheese. This was one of the best roasts I have had. You could tell it was fresh and homemade. Beef was a nice portion and the honey roasted carrots and parsnips were lovely. Everything was cooked to perfection. Will definitely return and will recommend to friends and family.

I went for lunch at the White Heron recently, with a couple of family members. We placed our orders with a member of staff and, after about 15 -20 minutes, were told that 2 of our choices for main course were no longer available. We chose something else and it took perhaps another 40 minutes to be served. The food was OK, but the wait was quite a lot longer than expected. It would have been helpful if the serving staff knew that some dishes were not available at the time of ordering.

Lots of food was off the menu, apparently due to Christmas but it was 4 days after Christmas Day. Ordered 3 Caesar Salads and they were the size of starters with measly pieces of chicken. Not impressed. Our friends had fish and chips which looked lovely and were a decent size.

Sadly this will be a poor review. I feel the waiting staff deserve much more as they were polite and kind at all times. First we were warned there was a 5-10 minutes delay, this was on top of normal time, hence we waited about 40 minutes. The sausages were pink and undercooked, mash and carrots cold and the broccoli very hard. Then waited another half hour for Christmas Crumble and cream. It came with custard so was sent back and we waited another 10 minutes for replacement. It was tastless, undercooked and stodgy. The cost if one meal was deducted from our bill but I'm afraid that didn't change our decision not to return. Such a pity as this used to be a lovely place to eat.

Came here on a cold rainy day with a close friend. I hadn’t been to the heron in a few months and was surprised to see the new additions to its interior decor. It’s done a complete 360 for its character and charm. I feel like the pub is finally coming into its own now it’s settled in since the refurbishment last year. A beautiful contrast of modern chic with antique ‘yare’ memorabilia. What a cosy place to have lunch ! Something that never changed about this place is the staff and how welcoming & warm they are. I had the ‘Swiss Toni’ burger which has to be in the top 5 burgers I’ve ever had and I’ve had a fair few in my lifetime I can tell you 😂 bacon, cheese, American mustard. Beef burger that melts in the mouth at first bite.. delicious. Broom & white heron staff have clearly put their heads together the last few months to make this place blossom into what is becoming a brilliant riverside pub! Glad to call this my local and will now be coming back a lot more frequently ! From my perspective the white heron should take a video panning around the whole pub, proving to people that may not have been in a while how it’s transformed and bringing more people in through that door ! Well done Broom/ White heron 🙏

My family and I have been visiting this pub for years, but with regret I cannot bring my self to go there anymore. The service is beyond description!!!, We have complained many times to the so called manager, who has the title but is totally out of his depth and has no Idea of service, the palace opens and shuts when it want to, last Sat night refused to be served at 10.50pm ?? told by a female bar person that we had missed last orders , then asked to see the manager, and not for the first time, and guess what, no manager on site. The staff turnover must be incredible, because there is no support or guidance for such an inexperienced team, they simply just stumble through their shifts, Someone needs to get hold of this business and run it properly, what a shame the Brooms name is attached to this. hope the review reaches someone that cares.

I’m not sure where to start… We’ve given this place so many chances. We want to support local businesses like this and thought over time, the problems would be ironed out and things would improve. I think we were wrong. Bar service always seems to be slow, food service generally even slower. We’ve had incorrect food turn up - when it’s finally turned up! We’ve had burgers at full price turn up wrapped in tin foil without any accompaniments. We’ve had apologies so many times. We’ve had refunds - on one occasion we were actually refunded for someone else’s order; such is the level of incompetence. Still, we decide to give things another go but to end up with a fairly large piece of plastic wrapping in my roast dinner is just about the end for me. Run out of energy for complaining - no-one came to clear our plates that had been sitting in front of us for a good 30 minutes anyway. Don’t think we’ll bother any more.

My wife ordered the prawn bruschetta which consisted of half a peice of toasted bread with 4 prawns on all for £7.50. Be both had to eat again when we got home. The menu "looks" great, there is a nice selection of drinks available and is a very clean public house. That's as good as the positives are going to get unfortunately. I ordered a rack of hickory bourbon ribs with chips and corn on the cob. The plate was a very nice size for a meal but, for what was paid (14.95), there was barely enough for a small child and could of done better if I had gone to the coop a bought myself a large rack and some oven chips. If it was a child's portion the youngling would of had serious trouble enjoying the rack as it was not cooked as described. The meat was very tough to cut even if a chain saw was available. The chips arrived within a small dip pot and the cob was the only half decent thing on the plate. I do find the atmosphere to be somewhat hard to enjoy, very clicky. The noise bounces off all the walls causing ears to ache. Whilst one does enjoy looking at the water, one is stuck at the end of a dyke looking at day boats and a huge workshop and gantry crane. This is a card/contactless pub only, so no cash. Even the jukebox is cashless/contactless. I find the method of transactions highly offensive for those that enjoy paying by cash. Cash is king.

On arrival the nicely decorated interior was pleasant and bar looking great. Acoustically the dining area was quite noisy although not many people in there. There was quite a few fly's noticeable in that area which set me off a bit not keen on fly's especially in food areas . We were seated quickly but were not informed to order at the bar until about 30mins although we were busy talking. After deciding what to have off the good menu we went to order at the bar , although a few staff it seemed only one was taking bar and food orders so a further 20 minute wait . I was starting to get a bit hangry but kept the smiley face on ,as you don't mess with people who serve you food 😅. After another 25 minutes food arrived , now I like fries and fries ain't chips so I was disappointed also the coleslaw was not looking good. But my fellow diners had beautiful salads and chips as they certainly weren't fries . It's a card only payment but as we didn't want to pay as one we sorted it out amongst are self's . The card machine was a bit temperamental also signal down there for internet is poor but they provide free unsecured WiFi which was a bit choppy . Would I go again probably not but that's just me and your not me so your choice.
