Excellent fish and chips. Can get very busy. New owners but not a lot of changes.

Just popped it to grab a large portion of chips. I paid over £4 and honestly it was barely a regular portion. They just lost a customer. I suggest if you go check what you are getting.

Saw Frying Machine was under new ownership as of September and decided to give the place another try. Very impressed with how it has been pulled back around. Menu board was full again with prices displayed. Service was friendly and efficient. Food was very good. Good to see Irish curry sauce on the menu - super tasty.

Excellent as usual ,the only chippy we use , can recommend with out doubt 👍

A decent chippy with all you would expect. I think the prices seem more than other chippies locally but this one is open on days that others are shut. They accept card payments which is always good. The queue was long and it took a long time, but that did mean the chips were freshly done.

Great food, reasonable prices, and relatively a nice place to get some fish n chips.

This used to be well run family business for years!!!, What has happened frying machine??, Rude service,Kids with attitude serving on the counter, almost taking the mick out of customers!!, such a change from last time visited, A real shame. Amazing service from the two older ladies honestly don’t know how they cope with the fast pace queue. I was slightly concerned after reading a couple of bad reviews but the food was very tasty I see a lot of people complaining about bones in their fish I guess some people don’t realise that fish are living creatures and even de boned does not guarantee a bone free piece of fish! Amazing they still smile with some of the cretins they have to serve on the daily. Keep up the good work and tasty chippies. all Staff doing their best. Prices are high but then again everything is going up in cost at the moment.

i cannot explain my disappointment, i visited the frying machine last week and i honestly couldn't believe the rapid decline this business has faced, to start of with, the blonde lady had a very uninviting personality, she made me feel like i was a burden and honestly quite upset me. secondly, the menu, the prices have increased , i get that inflation has risen prices alot but with that much of a dramatic change i think the prices should be more clearly displayed on the menus. lastly and most importantly, i think it is a huge safety hazard to be having literally prices of bone in the fish, i was ready to give this the benefit of the doubt due the fact mistakes happen but after reading some previous reviews i have discovered this is a common occurrence, i cannot explain the shock and horror i went through when i was cutting up a piece of fish for my 3 year old son and i discovered a bone. my child's safety is my number one priority and experiencing this has me absolutely livid as a child's airway can be so easily blocked by even the tiniest of things. will not be visiting this establishment again.

In the past I've driven past this chip shop and it was always looking busy, and quite often queued out if the door,just recently you never see the queues, and after trying it this Fri tea time I can see why, 2 medium middle cod and a large chips £19.70, as a previous review has written the large menu behind the counter which should be in full view to pick and price from has been left blank and replaced by some A4 menu sheets close to the serving tills, what a stroke !!! Now the food... Huh, in general conversation people recommend places and I've always heard good vibes about this place, but I think I can honestly say this is the worst fish & chips I've ever had,so greasy the fish wouldn't even come out of the paper, it had to be scraped of the paper and full of bones, which is very dangerous, but the chips were acceptable, Now for the customer service, this sour faced woman who I got served by,she shouldn't even be serving food in a prison, she obviously thought I had to bring my custom to this shop, but I'll tell ya something I didn't, it was the past recommendations why I tried, but never again, and in my work I speak to a lot of local people and in the whole city too. This chippy will never get recommended by me and I hope the word gets around about my review, this is probably the reason there's no queues anymore

Sign up on wall saying PRICE INCREASES CHECK PRICES but there are NO prices on the display board behind the fryer! Very expensive now, ordered normal meal which was around £15, added a regular cod & chips and a sausage and it was over £30.. Cod was dry too. Have used for 20 years but gone down hill recently.

I should of asked for a smaller overall portion enough chips to sink a ship I'm also not sure if £10 Is normal for 2 person? But it's enough to share for two.

Good portions. Nice chips and good batter on everything. Speedy service. Has 2 servers on so gets the queue down fast. Card payments accepted. Parking is relatively easy too

£12.80 for a medium cod and chips and a bottle of Dr Pepper is far to steep won’t be returning. Hardly any flavour within the fish and the batter was drier than the Sahara desert

Used to be a big fan, feel it has dropped standards recently. Poor chips. Fish with bones (all the time) soggy battered sausage. Will give another chance because I'm local. Hopefully was just a couple bad days

I went on Saturday evening, the food was solid not spectacular. The shop was busy with a regular flow of customers. I suspect the popularity is partly due to the fact there are limited fish and chip options this side of Norwich. The fish and chips are rather expensive although portions generous, quality passable. The staff are great and very attentive and friendly, I have had fish and chips before where you go wow but this is more meh, so so.

Ordered 2 extra large cod and feel that the size of it was more like a medium, More batter than actual fish by far, Chips were also poor. Disappointed

This takeaway produced excellent 2 portions of large tail-end cod fried to perfection, chips were lovely . Great meal . Thoroughly enjoyed

I do not recommend getting fish here as it will be full of bones.

Not nice to eat as Fish is full of bones, therfore not an enjoyable meal as you are constantly worried in case you choke on a fish bone, Thorpe fish bar in our opinion so much nicer as fish is bone free.

Very quick service, but 4.10 for some scraggy chips, and small battered sausage, must have been the last bits before new ones were cooked, I haven't had chippy in years, but decided to have some tonight....the chips that were chips and not bits were nice, but they were mainly bits, bit disappointed really

The fastest and most efficient service I've ever had in a fish and chip shop. Other chip shops could learn from here, various meals for 8 people served and wrapped within 5 minutes. And good food as well. Shame its 80 miles from home.

First time using this chip shop as I’ve currently moved into the area and it’s my local, however the service was wonderful .. I was really enjoying my chips .. lovley new potatoes however soon came to a stop when I found a blonde hair in my food … me and my partner both have dark hair so however isn’t from our household ? This certainly made me come to a stop and feel sick !! However wonderful and great service just made some hair nets to be in place :)

Couldn't believe how much the portions had reduced and the price had gone up 2 50 for a few chips is daylight robbery we have been going there for many years but I am afraid they have lost our custom

After using this shop for 30 years, its now time to find another one. For me 2.50 for a kiddies portion of chips in a polystyrene holder that isn't even full is scandalous. I spent £5 for 2 portion s of chips that didn't even make 1 of the old portions, and for first time I was hungry after eating from here. Now I know why 5.30 on a Saturday there was no queue

Feeling very disappointed We’ve been using the frying machine for many many years because it was the best around , definitely more expensive than others but we didn’t mind paying extra for what we had , But they have changed drastically , you don’t have a choice of chip portion size any more it’s now a so called 6oz portion for £2:50 , but we had to have 3 portions for 2 people but it still wasn’t enough & will add they were all different sizes ( so not so called 6oz) We also paid £17:50 for 2 large cod tail it is expensive but it is what it is at the moment , but £7:50 for chips is just a rip off ! ,,, ( we know potatoes have gone up but this is just per greed ) . there was an atmosphere with the staff because nearly all customers were moaning at them, but obviously it’s not them pick the prices but you can tell they don’t agree & are uncomfortable with it . The frying machine has now out priced themselves for families, it’s just ridiculous, We won’t now use it for a while hoping they will realise this just isn’t acceptable

What a meal I have bought from this fish shop before and it was ok but thought we tried it tonight as my brother is over from Thailand . We had 3xCod and chips and it was awful I’ve only rated it two stars the batter on the top of the fish was hard and dry as was the of the fish we had so many bones in it I counted 10 bones in a piece it put me of as I have a problem with my swallowing and was worried In case I got one stuck in my throat. Now for the chips a lot of them were hard and dry it was such a shame our meal was not nice and so disappointing and for the price we had to pay I would e speck to have a better me than what I bought who ever makes the batter need to change there recipe . The batter normally falls of the fish but this today didn’t

Ha ha, OMG, have you seen the portion size change for the chips. Absolutely crazy. Feel for the staff having to explain that one 🤣. Shame, been coming for years, but definitely won't be any longer.

I don’t normally write reviews but was extremely disappointed with the Frying Machine. have been buying my chips from the frying machine for 20 years and whilst it’s always been a little more expensive than the rest it’s been good quality. However, now they have decided to only offer one portion size for chips, calling it regular. 6oz for £2.50. But the portion size is pathetic even my young children were still hungry after eating it. This is plain greedy. The cost is too high for the portion size. I expect footfall will reduce if this will be the norm moving forward.

Best chip shop in Norwich in my opinion. I used to use every Friday when living in Norwich. Now when ever I am in the area I try and visit.

Friendly and efficient service and the food was lovely. The place always looks clean and tidy, always a good sign.

You can always see if a place is popular with the amount of people in the queue, and this is one of them places, great fish & chips plenty more choices and great staff for plenty of banter. O yeah and everything taste great.

Love the staff here especially two of the ladies and one of the fryer guys.... Always friendly, always asking me how my day was and remembering where i worked. A great variety of yummy food and always willing to cook to order... A pleasure to visit every time...

Our first time trying the food at Ghe Flying Machine. It was busy which was a good sign. We really enjoyed the food. Cod was nice, chips were excellent, battered sausage really good and pineapple rings were great. We will be going back.

My first visit to this place a couple of weeks ago and ordered cod only to find some six 3" bones in the cod which ended up in my mouth. When I went back this week to tell them about it I was told I had not ordered the middle part of the cod with no bones. No where did it say to order a certain cut of cod. NEVER been in a fish and chip shop where you had to order a certain part of the cod. Every one I have been in over many years always have boned cod. So quite a shock to find all the bones. So this week decided to ask for plaice. I asked if there would be bones and I was told there might be round the edge. Chips very greasy. I certainly will not be going back.

Ordered 2 lots of fish and chips yesterday and my partner has been violently sick ever since! Everything was dripping in grease and the fish was slimy and inedible. £20 wasted and a days wage lost.

Awesome food, very friendly staff. Had a small meal from there once or twice and I can say that it is very much worth it.

This was okay but not special. Chips pale and undercooked. There were bones left in the fish which I think is unacceptable nowadays. The fish also did not have crispy batter which was disappointing. The battered sausages and pies were fine which has saved a 3rd star. Will be going back to Bishop Bridge in the future.

Long queue at 5.20pm on Friday, about 20 people. Queue moved quickly. No customers are allowed inside must order through a hatch and then pick up the food from another hatch. Customers can pay in cash although contactless payment is preferred and encouraged where possible. Cod and chips was delicious - worth standing in the dark and cold for! Several bones but that is expected. Large portions of chips, my mum and I shared a large. Was enough!

This used to be a good Chippie, but the owners insist that customers wait outside to be served, in all weathers. Even though all shops now operating normally, the gullible owners of this shop want this situation to remain outside, despite factually, there is no need to operate like this. Many go elsewhere or will whenever they can. The owners here need to get a grip....disgusting treatment o customewrs.

Really annoyed at the chip shop before 8 pm on a Friday night large que waiting to be told 1portion of chips left then they are closing after we’ve been waiting & the website says they are open til 9pm & no prewiring they are closing so we are not queuing for nothing! Very poor!

Ordered cod and chips x 3, the 3 pieces of cod were full of bones, none of us could eat it. Chips were lovely but £20 for what turned out to be 3 portions of chips because we couldn't eat the fish was very expensive. Disappointing food from the local chip shop. Lots of loyal customers are going elsewhere and we will be joining them.

Got really expensive smothered in grease.

Got our order wrong,asked 4 times at window if they had the things I wanted, was assured yes,(kept asking as packets looked tiny)got home and sure as eggs are eggs no they did not have it correct!!! Rang them to say,and it was our fault,we asked for them wrong!!!! Food was delicious shame about the attitudes!!!

Expensive sausage and chips at £4.60. Chips were not fresh/hot. The queue moved quite quick though. Nothing offered for vegetarian as everything cooked in beef fat apparently.
