The Rising Sun in Broadland

Lovely location, lovely staff, starters and stone baked pizza's are excellent, on the downside the only steak available was a fillet on the specials menu at £29. Good pint of Doombar though.

Had 2 meals in the Rising Sun when on holiday. Both meals very good and excellent service.

Superb swordfish, marvellous location next to the river bure. Four dined all were delighted with food and service.

They found us a table without a reservation. They were lovely to my mum who's in aax wheelchair. The food was excellent, fish&chips, burgers and the vegan pizza is best that I've ever had. The portions were large, but you could order the children portion.

Uncooked fat chips were a disappointment. Staff were really helpful and smiley

We visited Coltishall today 26th April whilst on a boating holiday and we called into The Rising Sun for a drink then later that evening we had a meal. We can honestly say the experience was absolutely first class, the staff where so friendly and helpful and the food was second to none. We visit The Broads regularly but for the last three years we have not been able to get to Coltishall because of high water levels at Wroxham. This visit to The Rising Sun was well worth the wait. They fit us in with no notice on a Sunday, for the carvery. Everybody pleased with the options, including a brilliant nut roast. No problems with gluten free ordering. Plenty of people, but the service was great and the price was right for the portion sizes. Would recommend, especially if you can bag a table with a view onto the broad running by.

Second time visiting, second time eating in. Food was amazing. Fussy steak eater, but the Swannington steak with peppercorn sauce is seriously recommended! Get loads of food whatever for your money. Right by the river too.

Passing through Coltishall and thought I’d grab a beer at a lovely looking pub on the Broads. I was curtly told by the barman that I had to ‘sit at a table and order’ but I explained that I just wanted a beer and to sit in the bar. This wasn’t possible as he had ‘loads of tickets to do’. Strangest service I’ve ever encountered in a pub so I went next door to The Kings Head and was politely served a nice cold Guinness and was made to feel most welcome, that’s all it took.

Sadly the food was not great! Chips looked awful, that's both thick cut and fries...the burger too bland in all and the chicken nuggets was the same. The fish was ok. Service was excellent, very good thank you.

Friday evening only had to wait 5 minutes and had a table right by the river.Lovely friendly and efficient staff.Food so well presented and delicious and good value. A perfect start to the weekend.

Superb spot on the river. Despite being very busy the service was excellent. All the staff were very aware of any customers needing attention and dealt with them straight away. Nice range of food on the menu, something to suit all tastes. We had the Rack of Ribs and the Monkfish goujons both were spot on.

A lovely location by the river. Lots of outside tables - thankfully many had parasols on a very hot day. The staff were amazing. They were welcoming, attentive, friendly and cheerful . Despite the number of customers the service was very good. Definitely recommend

Waited nearly an hour for pizza… arrived cold and stale. The waitress offered a refund and a free dessert which was fine until Poppy took over… incredibly rude, offensive and unprofessional… don’t visit!

Took 50 mins for our table to be cleaned from previous party and for drinks order to arrive, had to chase this 3 times. When meal arrived we weren't given enough cutlery so had to go and find someone. Worst service received here. No follow up to see if meal was OK, to clear plates or offer dessert. Very disappointed.

Just home after two nights here, room was clean and comfortable and very large, with an amazing view of the river, the pub itself is crazy busy all day, but always managed to get a table, food is excellent, huge portions, great pizza. Sat outside in the sunshine for breakfast, probably the best time of day as the river was quiet and peaceful. You can hire a canoe right next door, a definite do. Will definitely return!

Just a great gastro pub in a perfect location. Food exceptional. Pizzas especially great. One young man behind bar a little short when serving when I went to the bar to get a drink because of slow table service. Plastic cups only and he put me in my "place". Too hot to argue but they do not cope well when busy and have many customers outside.

Terrific location, food was the best ! Very well presented, staff kind and caring. Food is all about looks and flavours, we were not disappointed. Definitely get here early as car park soon gets full. 5 star rating from us.

Party of six all had excellent food and service. Best eating experience of our visit to the broads. Our party had a mixture of Pizza, Fish and Chips, Steak, Fish Pie and Ribs. Highly recommended.

Food is great, the pizza I had was super tasty and one of the best i've had Although service was a little bit slow and it took them a while to take our orders the food absolutely made up for the little wait :) I do wish they listed all the drinks prices on the menu though The location is fantastic too, nice and out of the way of the city alongside a river, perfect little spot to relax and unwind for a while!

Great pub, excellent food! Slow service when busy, understandable, but if waiting a long time for food/drinks bothers you then I wouldn’t head here on a sunny day! It’s a lovely place, ideally located next to the river, with ample parking for the capacity.

If you want to experience the best food, service, location you must visit the Rising Sun. Andy the Manager is just fantastic at his job and his staff reflect this. The food is awesome with good portions and nothing is enough trouble. Highly highly recommend.

I had lunch there today with some friends. I had the Smoked Haddock pie and it was utterly delicious the best fish pie I ever had. Light mash with a bit of crab, lovely prawns and haddock in a rich sauce.

Only give it a three star as they tried to charge us for food and drink we didn't have, but they were quite happy to refund the difference.

Very nice burgers , loved the menu , and a great setting too , was very busy but the wait time was fine , staff were friendly , will definitely be back

Such a lovely pub on the river. But, had a pretty disappointing meal here yesterday. I had a Greek salad which was around £15 & definitely not worth that. It came on a v small plate (which made it rly hard to eat also) and had no dressing on at all! Not even a bit of olive oil. My partner also had a vegan burger which he said was quite dry & had no sauce in at all. Shame cause the food here used to be really good!

We popped in for a drink. The lady serving started to serve and halfway through just walked away saying to her colleague that work was calling her mobile. Wasn’t she at work? Drinks were very pricey.

Amazing food, tasty and big portions! The pizzas are to die for! Great river side location and a nice outdoor seating area! Staff are very attentive, a must visit for lunch or dinner if in the broads

Lovely restaurant, great service and food

Went in a just over week ago now. It's not like it was. Soon as I got to the bar the 1st question with out any welcome was are we eating. We did decide to eat and I have to say it was nowhere near as good as it use to be.1st off I think it's expensive,we got placed to a table but the staff took ages to come and see what we wanted even though it wasn't busy,i had to send two glasses back due to them being filthy from the dishwasher so i had to clean the third glass myself ( never serve an empty dirty pint glass) the food took ages,which was ok. The waitresses was friendly though when I spoke to them. Also the noise made from setting up tables wasn't ideal while I was eating with the wife. I have to say it's not what it used to be and I won't be eating in there anymore.

Stopped by for a drink. An offhand barman interrogated us as to whether we wanted to eat. He then switched modes when I ordered a pint of Woodforde Volt, extolling the virtues of this 'lovely pint, fresh on'. I suspected it was being oversold and sure enough it was massively below par. The unappealing interior was busy with families having lunch. It would be a nice spot on the river to sit outside on a warm day, but this wasn't one so we moved on...

Food 100% Excellent and allergen support was exemplary. Made me feel more welcome than i have ever felt. More places need to take tips for allergen handling from this place. Mother in law's birthday was celebrated without request with a drawing on a dessert place after just a mention of the occasion. Shows real compassion and care for their customers. Rare to see these days

Food was okay with variety of dishes to choose from, but the latte was a disappointment - more like warm milk

Lovely location but was really unimpressed with the food. Paid £20 a head for beef roast dinners. Food was brought out within 5 minutes of placing our order and was lukewarm on arrival. Beef was tough and overdone despite being described as being served pink on the menu. Couldn’t fault the potatoes they were really good, but the Yorkshire puddings were dry and the veg was just boiled, would expect better for the price! I would likely go again just as the other dishes I saw people having looked really good but I wouldn’t bother again with a roast from here!

A nice location but found the staff not very welcoming with one member being incredibly rude, the food was ok but not brilliant and I thought that the wine was overpriced. I concluded that they are probably complacent, knowing that they have a good location by the river. They get lots of visiting boats during the summer months. So it probably doesn’t matter that none of our party will be revisiting.

Popped here for a drink on Good Friday. Lovely location with seating along the waterfront. Staff friendly and welcoming. We didn’t eat but the food smelt delicious

Spent a night here, great warm welcome, good location, really busy car park. Location is superb with some nice walking for a 1 day stay. The beer choice is limited but the food and choice is excellent, as is breakfast and service in the morning was really good, however we were let down by poor and quite frankly rude service from one individual during our evening meal. Other staff members were fine and working hard but if we weren't staying there I would have walked out. We didn't stay for more drinks after the meal, instead visiting the red lion down the road which was a much better experience.

This pub is just about perfect. We stopped there by boat from Wroxham. The menu is extensive and my Vegan partner was covered with an amazing curry. I had a pizza from their stone oven - brilliant and unexpected,

One of our favourite places to eat out, today was a special occasion for our granddaughter’s 12th birthday. Emailed previous to the dinner to let them know, as they prepare a special plate if you order desert. They did not disappoint, the mains were delicious and the deserts were amazing! All the staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you for making it so special ❤️ A lovely setting right by the river. Would definitely recommend to anyone with a big appetite. The food is top notch. 👌

Review is for Sunday Lunch which was lovely. Perfectly cooked roast beef with all the usual veg etc. Coffee crème brûlée also very good. The restaurant is very busy but the service was good. Reservation is definitely required on a Sunday.

Such a lovely place to stay! The team were welcoming, room was very clean and comfortable and the food amazing! The breakfast was so good!

Fab as always. The portion sizes are massive though so do take that into account if you are thinking of ordering side dishes as well as mains. The steak and ale suet pudding I ordered could easily feed 2 or 3 people rather than just one (it was delicious though!)

Amazing place to eat, amazing location

Visited with a friend for dinner. I chose the buttermilk chicken burger and friend a steak. My chicken burger was greasy as had been deep fried, the buttermilk coating tasteless, there were far too many frozen chips on the plate which was off putting and the plate didm’t look particularly appetising, most of the food was left. Again friend only ate half of her plateful, steak was good but she too felt put off by the endless amounts of cheap tasting frozen chips. Quality over quantity would have been much more preferable.

I was surprised by the quality of the food - really enjoyed my pizza. It has a very family friendly vibe and my dog was welcome inside. Fantastic location by the river that I'm sure is lovely in the summer

Great location. Very cleN and comfortable room. We enjoyed a good evening meal and there is a really varied menu to choose from. Breakfast was delicious and a generous size. All the staff are good too. Thank you Sheila for the warm welcome and excellent service.

Very disappointed. The pizza looked ok but it was cold. The chips were the worst ever, summer trade is guaranteed given its location next to the river but my group of twenty odd wont be coming back any time soon.

Great for a stop off for a pint by the river, also has a nice log burner.

Good food in good surroundings at competitive prices

We had booked a late lunch for my daughter's 20th birthday. Having been numerous times before and enjoyed our meals, we were really looking forward to it, however this time was not so enjoyable. With regards to the food, three of our meals were really good, but the menu didn't have many healthier options. I chose the Butternut Squash Dhansak, which was pretty insipid and too acidic/citrusy. The major reason for only scoring a 3 for service, was the attitude of the male bar staff member, who when asked by my wife to hide the birthday cake said 'We don't keep cake behind the bar, it's against company policy!", then just walked away. If this is "company policy", then fair enough, however he could have said so more sympathetically and politely. That being said, the waitresses we had were really nice and the table service was good.

Generous portions and very tasty.

Went here for lunch. Lovely setting inside….but the food was terrible (and expensive). Absolutely do not get the French onion soup unless you like a very thick gravy and onion soup (think bisto and onions). The Ceaser salad was mostly bacon, croutons, and over cooked chicken with a few pieces of lettuce COVERED in dressing….we didn’t even eat it. Fish and chips were ok….wouldn’t go back to get them though. But if you’re in the area and craving some mulled wine and mushy peas this is the place to go! Also if you have little ones ours love the pizza and the chips….don’t order the kids burger.

Great food and prompt service, ideal location by the river

£18 for a burger and it wasn't anything special. However their coffee creme brulee was a spectacular end to a meal.

Went for a work Christmas lunch. Huge portions of good quality. I was late arriving but they had boxed up my pre-ordered starter for me, which was nice. Car park can get very busy. Excellent service and pleasant ambience.

The team at The Rising Sun always make sure you're looked after. The portions are of course massive, they're known for it, but that doesn't mean the food isn't good in it's own right. We had the Christmas menu with family who were staying there and then were kindly allowed to join them for breakfast the following morning. The Full English was ridiculously big, but I finished it with pleasure! The Christmas menu has good choice and is good value. The Turkey roast is the best I've had so far this season and I'm 5 dinners in! I love a Yorkshire with any roast so I'm glad the Sun see it the same way. They continue to do what they know best, any time of the year.

Lovely pub right on the river. Good roasts including Turkey! Friendly staff, good value. Xmas pud was not on the menu but when asked they said they could find some - top marks.

Lovely location but beware do not order the cottage pie it's awful. Nothing like a traditional dish and had long pieces of stringy meat which seemed neverending and very difficult to eat. Some of it was dry and burnt on to the dish. Not much flavour either. It was very expensive too. I think I made a bad choice but you wouldn't think you could go far wrong choosing cottage pie . Never again!

Been here 4 times this year. Cannot fault the service. Will be back next year.

Varied menu, including some unusual fusion options. Pizza's & traditional Sunday roasts. All very tasty & well presented. A bit pricey though.

We came here for our works Xmas meal, and it did not disappointing. The food was excellent. Staff went above and beyond for someone in our party with allergies and nothing was too much effort. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable despite being really busy. Service was quick too which was surprising as it was packed! Only thing we had issues with was the parking, bit other wise highly recommend the rising sun.

Friendly , helpful staff, they couldn't have done more to make us and everyone else there welcome. The food was good but the staff were excellent.
