The Rising Sun in Broadland

A nice location but found the staff not very welcoming with one member being incredibly rude, the food was ok but not brilliant and I thought that the wine was overpriced. I concluded that they are probably complacent, knowing that they have a good location by the river. They get lots of visiting boats during the summer months. So it probably doesn’t matter that none of our party will be revisiting.

Popped here for a drink on Good Friday. Lovely location with seating along the waterfront. Staff friendly and welcoming. We didn’t eat but the food smelt delicious

Spent a night here, great warm welcome, good location, really busy car park. Location is superb with some nice walking for a 1 day stay. The beer choice is limited but the food and choice is excellent, as is breakfast and service in the morning was really good, however we were let down by poor and quite frankly rude service from one individual during our evening meal. Other staff members were fine and working hard but if we weren't staying there I would have walked out. We didn't stay for more drinks after the meal, instead visiting the red lion down the road which was a much better experience.

This pub is just about perfect. We stopped there by boat from Wroxham. The menu is extensive and my Vegan partner was covered with an amazing curry. I had a pizza from their stone oven - brilliant and unexpected,

One of our favourite places to eat out, today was a special occasion for our granddaughter’s 12th birthday. Emailed previous to the dinner to let them know, as they prepare a special plate if you order desert. They did not disappoint, the mains were delicious and the deserts were amazing! All the staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you for making it so special ❤️ A lovely setting right by the river. Would definitely recommend to anyone with a big appetite. The food is top notch. 👌

Review is for Sunday Lunch which was lovely. Perfectly cooked roast beef with all the usual veg etc. Coffee crème brûlée also very good. The restaurant is very busy but the service was good. Reservation is definitely required on a Sunday.

Amazing place to eat, amazing location

Such a lovely place to stay! The team were welcoming, room was very clean and comfortable and the food amazing! The breakfast was so good!

Fab as always. The portion sizes are massive though so do take that into account if you are thinking of ordering side dishes as well as mains. The steak and ale suet pudding I ordered could easily feed 2 or 3 people rather than just one (it was delicious though!)

Visited with a friend for dinner. I chose the buttermilk chicken burger and friend a steak. My chicken burger was greasy as had been deep fried, the buttermilk coating tasteless, there were far too many frozen chips on the plate which was off putting and the plate didm’t look particularly appetising, most of the food was left. Again friend only ate half of her plateful, steak was good but she too felt put off by the endless amounts of cheap tasting frozen chips. Quality over quantity would have been much more preferable.

I was surprised by the quality of the food - really enjoyed my pizza. It has a very family friendly vibe and my dog was welcome inside. Fantastic location by the river that I'm sure is lovely in the summer

Great location. Very cleN and comfortable room. We enjoyed a good evening meal and there is a really varied menu to choose from. Breakfast was delicious and a generous size. All the staff are good too. Thank you Sheila for the warm welcome and excellent service.

Very disappointed. The pizza looked ok but it was cold. The chips were the worst ever, summer trade is guaranteed given its location next to the river but my group of twenty odd wont be coming back any time soon.

Great for a stop off for a pint by the river, also has a nice log burner.

Good food in good surroundings at competitive prices

We had booked a late lunch for my daughter's 20th birthday. Having been numerous times before and enjoyed our meals, we were really looking forward to it, however this time was not so enjoyable. With regards to the food, three of our meals were really good, but the menu didn't have many healthier options. I chose the Butternut Squash Dhansak, which was pretty insipid and too acidic/citrusy. The major reason for only scoring a 3 for service, was the attitude of the male bar staff member, who when asked by my wife to hide the birthday cake said 'We don't keep cake behind the bar, it's against company policy!", then just walked away. If this is "company policy", then fair enough, however he could have said so more sympathetically and politely. That being said, the waitresses we had were really nice and the table service was good.

Generous portions and very tasty.

Went here for lunch. Lovely setting inside….but the food was terrible (and expensive). Absolutely do not get the French onion soup unless you like a very thick gravy and onion soup (think bisto and onions). The Ceaser salad was mostly bacon, croutons, and over cooked chicken with a few pieces of lettuce COVERED in dressing….we didn’t even eat it. Fish and chips were ok….wouldn’t go back to get them though. But if you’re in the area and craving some mulled wine and mushy peas this is the place to go! Also if you have little ones ours love the pizza and the chips….don’t order the kids burger.

Great food and prompt service, ideal location by the river

£18 for a burger and it wasn't anything special. However their coffee creme brulee was a spectacular end to a meal.

Went for a work Christmas lunch. Huge portions of good quality. I was late arriving but they had boxed up my pre-ordered starter for me, which was nice. Car park can get very busy. Excellent service and pleasant ambience.

The team at The Rising Sun always make sure you're looked after. The portions are of course massive, they're known for it, but that doesn't mean the food isn't good in it's own right. We had the Christmas menu with family who were staying there and then were kindly allowed to join them for breakfast the following morning. The Full English was ridiculously big, but I finished it with pleasure! The Christmas menu has good choice and is good value. The Turkey roast is the best I've had so far this season and I'm 5 dinners in! I love a Yorkshire with any roast so I'm glad the Sun see it the same way. They continue to do what they know best, any time of the year.

Lovely pub right on the river. Good roasts including Turkey! Friendly staff, good value. Xmas pud was not on the menu but when asked they said they could find some - top marks.

Lovely location but beware do not order the cottage pie it's awful. Nothing like a traditional dish and had long pieces of stringy meat which seemed neverending and very difficult to eat. Some of it was dry and burnt on to the dish. Not much flavour either. It was very expensive too. I think I made a bad choice but you wouldn't think you could go far wrong choosing cottage pie . Never again!

Varied menu, including some unusual fusion options. Pizza's & traditional Sunday roasts. All very tasty & well presented. A bit pricey though.

Friendly , helpful staff, they couldn't have done more to make us and everyone else there welcome. The food was good but the staff were excellent.

We came here for our works Xmas meal, and it did not disappointing. The food was excellent. Staff went above and beyond for someone in our party with allergies and nothing was too much effort. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable despite being really busy. Service was quick too which was surprising as it was packed! Only thing we had issues with was the parking, bit other wise highly recommend the rising sun.

We booked a room at The Rising Sun for a Friday and Saturday night, and booked here as the rooms were dog friendly. We arrived later than anticipated on the Friday evening and concerned that we might not be able to order food, but the staff couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating. The pub and restaurant were warm and friendly, on a very cold winters evening. The restaurant itself was busy and lively on the Friday evening, which is always a good sign. We had a fantastic meal and considering we had our large pup with us, nothing was too much trouble. We checked into our room, which was nicely decorated and spacious. It was very clean and we were very happy with the standard of our room. We had lovely dog walks along the river both mornings, were there is public footpaths along the riverside. The setting is beautiful and we would highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Norfolk near the river, in particular if travelling with a pup.

Fabulous 👌 pub on the Broads. It is very popular in good weather and you can't book in summer. Only in winter. Starters around 7 quid. Mains around 15-20 quid. Both starters and mains portion sizes are enormous. Staff are numerous and very quick to bring your drinks and food. Highly recommended the mussels.

Excellent sunday roast. Generous portion and beef is cooked to perfect. Pork belly is also great, comes with nice cracking. Asian fusion dish such as Teriyaki Salmon with soba noodles and crispy salmon balls is also delicious. Andy and his team are welcoming and attentive. Thanks

We were visiting family in Norfolk and we went as a party of 7 on Friday evening, easily booked a table on the phone Friday morning. We got there around 7pm and parked up, as the car park is used by 2 pubs, I bet in high season the car park is packed. We got our table and ordered drinks, which came promptly. We ordered and the food came, everything from fantastic starters such coconut prawns, chicken wings and crab cakes. Then amazing pizzas, to the “best fish and chips” someone had ever had! All throughout our stay the service was top notch, attentive but not intrusive. The waiter updated us on the status of our food throughout. The Primitivo was to die for! Well done to everyone, an amazing experience with amazing people – thank you!

Love this pub/restaurant by the river. So nice to sit by the water on a sunny or even overcast day and an added bonus - the food is very good! We enjoyed the pizza's and loaded fries on a couple of occasions on our holiday to Norfolk this year, we visit the area a lot and always make sure we get here at least once. The service is always good and the staff helpful and friendly.

Haven't visited for a long time, but thought in a hot summers day we would chance it - wow! The food blew me away - massive portion but sooo tasty! Had parmignan chicken and will have to have it again when we return. Service great as well.

Very disappointed we stayed for four nights, room was OK very basic and bathroom could have done with a better clean. Our first night we ate in the pub there was a large selection of food but no simple dishes also very dark in there could do with lighter coloured walls. Breakfast was OK but no side table with yoghurt, fruit, cereal, juice or toast. One morning the cleaner had cleaned the toilets left the door propped open and we had a lovely smell of bleach with our breakfast.

Last visited a long while ago but this place appears to have been taken over by the Recruiting Sergeant crew, as it was their cut-down menu. That meant the food quality was excellent. I chose a 12" meat pizza, which came with a good deal of meat and cheese topping, but the bottom was very burnt which made the dish taste bitter. Inside, the pub needs a good clean; the floor was dirty, the window so dirty that we couldn't see the lovely river out of it and the decoration in the toilets needs updating. Hopefully the new owners will bring the place up to standard as it's a nice spot in which to enjoy their lovely food.

Really impressive Sunday lunch with family. No booking only walk in’s but staff are busy, on the ball, courteous and professional. Food was excellent, one of the best roasts we’ve had and reasonably priced. Given the number of covers this place has it bears great testament to the management and staff team that they can maintain consistently high standards under pressure.

Best get there early for lunchtime as parking tight. Food and service excellent. You will be acknowledged and get served promptly. Ploughman’s delicious but friends food also good - chicken arrabbiata. Will definitely return

This is really a very very busy pub but the staff were remarkable in keeping it all under control. It is, perhaps, a bit mass-market, but acceptable nevertheless. The outdoor seating by the river is very pleasant, especially as it was a hot sunny day. Food is reasonably priced, portions are very good, and quality is ok. My only complaint was the chips which were not of good quality.

Amazing location, right on the river. Made for relaxing with a glass of cold wine and spend time people watching. All sorts going on, paddle boarders falling in, lovely boats and patient fisherman. Having said that it's still very relaxing and classy. Table service for drinks on the patio- nice move. Didn't eat, but everything looked good.

You have a prime position that any other chain would cherish ,its Old grubby and dated , very poor lighting .needs a complete refit in keeping with your other pubs in your chain . the restaurant toilets are a disgrace , tell your useless cleaner to clean behind the door (floor and wall and door ) no loo roll .the toilets the bar end can be smelt as you walk-in the front door .!! Why ?? Overpriced food , stained cutlery and wine glass (not polished, that’s bad ) a load of soil under our the table , should have been checked before we where seated Saying that , the young lady who served was knowledgeable and very pleasant . Will not return

we have used the pub 3 times this month and each time has been great. Service was friendly and quick. All the team were fun and mace the time there a good experience. Food really good and loads of it!

This pub has it all. A great location right on the river with an extension menu that we did our best to work through over 3 evenings!! Service is top draw and we would highly recommend it if you are anywhere in the area.

Tasty food but portions much too large, we were all pensioners, could not and did not want to fight our way through portions big enough for two. It is just absurd to make portions so large, even if they are interesting and tasty. No wonder...

Despite continually giving the Rising Sun another chance over the last couple of years, sadly we continue to be disappointed by the unreliable quality of the food and drink and poor service. As locals, we really want to support this pub especially during the winter...
