The Bell at Salhouse is a fantastic traditional pub which is very popular with the local people of Salhouse. Jackie and her team always provide this service which is very friendly I recommend this pub for folk who love a traditional pub.

Thought we'd give this place a try for food. We were only 1 of 3 tables eating, not an extensive menu and written on a chalk board so you have to go through and potentially disturb anyone sitting nearby eating. Choices OK as said limited. My partner and I went for the rump steak and requested medium rare however both received a medium to well done! Flavour of steak good. Starters all went for mushrooms however the dips were actually sachets of sauce such as mayo or tomato, not garlic or served with dish, presentation leaves a lot to be desired there with starters. Staff were attentive and polite. A good evening and may consider returning

Popped in to meet up with local friends for a pint and some dinner. Quite full at 7pm on a Friday night, which made for a good atmosphere. An extensive menu quite was surprising. The food was what you would expect for the price and location and with generous portions one couldn't complain, standard pub food, done well, at a reasonable price. What's not to like?

This 400 year old pub is the perfect place to partake of refreshment after walking in Salhouse Broad nature reserve. Your dog is welcome to join you in the bar where you can enjoy a beautifully cooked and presented, pub lunch. We were offered a choice of sandwiches and jacket potatoes with a range of fillings as well as typical pub fare. We chose a jacket potato with tuna which came accompanied by a super salad and sausages and mash with a side dish of perfectly cooked mixed veg. We did not really need a dessert, but who could not be tempted by treacle sponge with custard and white chocolate brownie with ice cream. The food was cooked to order and arrived hot from the oven. The wine was a good temperature and tasted great! We were made to feel welcome and service was cheerful and quick. Free WiFi is available. The building itself is fascinating and has lots of interesting features.

We was on holiday in Norfolk with friends who had previously been to The Bell and said the food was great so we decided to go there and meet up with some old friends of there,s we arrived before the others we then ordered COD and Chips. Salmon.Sausage & Mash + 3 Burgers 2 had pulled pork & 1 had chilli beef toppings when the food arrived 1hr later the Burgers were over cooked the pulled pork was dried out and inedible plus the Burger buns were burnt black or not even cooked when we complained the manager / owner could not see what was wrong when I pointed out the Pulled Pork was dry and unbeatable which I had to spit out into a tissue he said it should have had some sauce on it not that it was dried out which is visible in the photos takenhe offered to replace BUT we did NOT want to wait another hour for replacement food so we declined one burger had wedges they were overcooked and hard all in all the the Burger meals SHOULD NOT have left the kitchen are they professionals or amateurs after a much heated discussion over payment Jason decided to change the previous offer of 50% OFF one burger meal and not charge for the other 2 burger meals to 50% OFF all the food bill hasten to say we accepted but we decided not to wait for desserts. When a party member said about us putting a review on TripAdvisor he not not seem worried only to say we could ruin a small business i am afraid it is your CHEF who is ruining you busines by sending out unsuitable food

We went for a Sunday lunch with a group of friends. We had been asked to "sit down" by 12.30 but they weren't ready for us and things went "downhill" from there with very, very slow service, and when the "mains" started to "drift in" (which was not until after 13.30 - and some orders were as late as 14.05 depending on what you ordered) the vegetables were cold / uncooked. So many issues overall its impossible to cover them all......however, unless we really did suffer a "major one-off problem" (and nobody apologised for anything in particular) then, unfortunately, we would not see them having much of a future

Visited with some friends who were here for a holiday, their treat. Waited over an hour for food to arrive, and it was very very poor. The burger buns were burnt, as were the wedgies, the pulled pork was dry and inedible. One friend had cod and chips which he enjoyed, another had salmon, when it arrived 10 minutes after everyone else’s, again enjoyed, sausage and mash passable, but all three burgers should never have left the kitchen. I ate my burger because I was so hungry!! We asked to see the manager/owner, Jason, he couldn’t really see that food was that bad, after a lengthy discussion he agreed that he would give us a discount, that took some doing, he was not helpful nor seemed genuinely concerned by our complaint. Apparently, Dan the chef was experienced and had been very busy (couldn’t see many other customers eating and we had to wait over an hour). Jason offered to replace meals, it was now 1 1/2 hours after we go there, I was hungry and wanted to go home so declined. Give him his dues, he did eventually give us a 50% discount, but the whole episode should never have happened. I felt so sad for my friends as they had suggested we go there. Jason, you need to learn how to deal with people who’s food is obviously below standard, it’s not hard to miss burnt food, and tell Dan to look at the food before he sends it out. On a good note, the waitress was very pleasant.

However clever you are dont bother going to the pub quiz here on a Wednesday evening. The quiz is usually won by a team ironically called " We are cheating " ( we thought they were joking ) Last night we witnessed them blatantly cheating, using their mobiles, being helped by the bar staff and condoned by the quizmaster. They are basically stealing honest pub quizzers money each week. Its a shame really because apart from that its a really nice pub. I hope the landlord dont miss too much the £250 we normally spend there each month.

We popped into The Bell on a Friday evening to eat with family. It was lovely to see the place so busy - obviously a good recommendation. We were cheerfully greeted and received really attentive service all evening, not so much so that it was intrusive, but an appropriate level at the right time. Two of us had mains from the regular menu and two had 'Beef stew and dumplings' from the Specials Board. They were all delicious. The 4 sweets that we had were also well received and 4 very clean plates were the result. The portion sizes were extremely good, as an example, the chocolate brownie enjoyed by one of us consisted of two brownies, where the usual portion is just one. Needless to say it too was delicious. We also enjoyed the local ales, brewed less than a mile from the pub we were told by a regular - whose recommendations were gratefully received. I can not over exaggerate how happy we all were with the quality of the food and service and all for, what we considered, to be excellent value. The icing on the cake for us was that dogs are allowed in the bar, which was a real bonus and our young Labrador, who was also made very welcome. The restaurant is understandably dog free. We shall most definitely return, soon!

Passed this inn on many occasions but was closed / shut until the new owner purchased some months ago. Thought it would be good to try it out on route back to London. A good atmosphere was definitely here but I believevthatvwas due to England's 6 - 1 win. Must try the inn on a non-footy day. Nevertheless I would consider the atmosphere would be similar. A nice clean establishment with what I could see on the day was a full range of ales, lagers and wines. We, my son, grandchild 5 and myself dined. The wait to my mind was unacceptable although it was Sunday! The food was acceptable but I could see others eating well overdone "Yorkshire puds". I consider the kitchen staff should tidy up their act. Maybe the premises, staff and management need to grow and manage the business a bit better especially in the area of dining.

We (5 of us) headed for the Bell on Monday evening hoping for a meal. We hadn't been on the Broads for several years but had fond memories of the Bell. It's about a 25 minute walk from the moorings so I was slowing down! My athletic son forged ahead to get a table and found to his dismay that the pub does not serve meals on a Monday. The fantastic new landlady who was about to go to her Pilates class offered us a lift to a nearby pub which does serve food on Mondays. I live locally and have used the pub a few times to drink and all seemed ok, however when we ate there it was a different story...We've eaten twice this summer and Food seems to be over cooked in general terms, first time not as bad as second. My Steak was shallow fried so soggy and limp, flavour all gone. A decent grill pan is all it takes! All other food seems freezer to table or made in advance and badly stored and reheated. It's so sad as communities need village pubs and village pubs need the community but without more effort it maybe a familiar tale...

As we weren't that hungry we thought it would be just enough, but we were wrong as it was not small at all. The steaks were cooked to perfection and were really juicy and tender. The decor is looking a bit tired, but it is a lovely village pub with a nice garden. If is good food you're after then you can't get much better in my opinion.

We were on holiday on the norfolk broads and had moored up at salhouse broad , as a chef myself I'm very critical about the food I eat , however I could not fault this place . We walked in to the bell and were greeted by a lovely barmaid who was happy and bubbly , we were offered a table in the bar or resturant or the lovely well kept garden , we chose to sit in the garden and were given a menu with a large selection of a variety of pub food to suit everybody , I chose the lamb steaks they were absolutely fantastic and cooked to perfection , I asked if I could have chips instead of mash which the chef was more than happy to do for me , my husband chose the sirloin steak which he wanted cooked medium rare and he said it was cooked to perfection and melted in his mouth , it was very reasonable priced , and my daughter had fish fingers of the children's menu she ate the lot , I didn't have room for a pudding but my husband had a treacle sponge pudding and said it was lovely , if we haven't been moving on the next day we would defiantly come back , all I can say is lucky salhouse for having such a reasonable priced excellent food pub as there local , I would defiantly recommend this place , and I would return tomorrow

Stopped on our way back to our hotel for a drink. Landlord was very friendly, served a lovely pint and sat in a well maintained garden. We did not eat as we had already been elsewhere. Well worth a visit, imagine lovely and cosy in the winter.

I took 4 pensioners for a roast dinner , far to much meat that was very tough .... was goin to ask for a steak knife . I wanted a roast so asked for veggie option and was told the veggie Sunday roast was lasagne !! The Yorkshire pud were brittle , not nice at all . the cauliflower cheese , carrots and mashed swede all came in the same dish and was swimming in milky water and the green beans were stringyThe sweets were lovely but one if the apple pies looked like it had been thrown on the plate . I'm sad to say all this as its a great pub , so I'm sorry we won't be going back for a roast

Had a meet up with friends this week. The young bar/waitress was lovely and smiley. However the food served was dire. We had a starter to share swimming in oil. 3 of us ordered the steak & ale pie with veg. When it arrived I said what is that, to be told the steak & ale pie It was just a beef casserole served in a small gratin dish and a piece of pastry flung across the dish and not even length ways to cover the gratin dish. It was no more a pie than fly in the air.The veg served on the side must have been re-heated more times than I care to think about. The new potatoes were waterlogged. I only ate half of my meal and did make a comment to the waitress/bar lady. However I did not make a fuss as I felt sad for her and I was in group and the others having the same meal said leave it we will not come back again. I think the chef needs to go back to catering college. G

Seven of us visited Salhouse Bell for lunch. The service was very good, she was extremely helpful (even when we wanted to re-arrange the table!) and the food was excellent. Will definitely visit again. We sat indoors so cannot comment on outside eating facilities.

We went here for a meal and I have to say it was the worst pub meal I have ever had ( and we eat out a lot). I live locally and my previous experiences of this pub haven't been good although I've never eaten there before. I thought I'd give it another go. Staff were lovely - really friendly but the food was just swimming in fat and had no taste at all. Needless to say I won't be going back to eat and I won't be recommending it either. A great shame

Decided to go for the weekday special, and you got plenty of it; Pate & toast for starters, steak (about 1.5" thick!) and home made rhubarb crumble with cream. My b/f had already been here with my daughter back in November and said how lush it was. Only thing he said was different was the chips he had back in November were home made, not packet chips like he had this time. Place wasn't busy so didn't have to book. Only think I would say is wear long sleeves as I found it a little on the chilly side in the pub. Apart from that HATS OFF TO THE CHEF; will definately be recommending this place to friends, and will be eating there again; maybe try something from the specials board.

Helen is a star land lady, always very welcoming and helpful. The Bell is a traditional local pub which nowadays is lovely as its got that welcoming feel to it when you enter. The food, well where do I start. Good choice of menu and if you like steak, take their steak challenge its good value for money. Tues - Thurs they have a special 3 course set menu of pate and toast or soup, 6oz steak, chips, peas, onion rings and mushroom, chocolate fudge cake or apple pie all for £14.95 for two people, great value. Sunday lunch is also very good, again either 2 or 3 courses. We eat here once or twice a week and were also there when the customers had the burnt pies and I remember it was only the crust that was burnt not the inside as the customers ate the meat, and didnt immediately complain. The Bell also serve guest beers, well worth a visit.

Table of 8 on a Friday evening and five weren't satisfied with their main meals,Thai green curry had absolutely no taste and definitely wasn't a green Thai curry! Others were greasy and one had whole rack of ribs which he couldn't cut and it should have fell off the bone. No we didn't say anything because they were so busy with Xmas etc and it would have taken too long to sort out five meals, but it's a shame because we probably won't go back now. However staff all polite.

Wow, what a find. We popped in here for a Sunday roast, we hadn't booked but the staff were very accommodating and put us on a reserved table that was saved for about an hour and a half later, as we had no intention of staying that long, we were just eating and running! We opted for a roast at £6.95 my brother and I had lamb, my son had pork, the plates arrived with the meat, a good sized portion, 3 large roast potatoes and a large Yorkshire, and the veg came out on a serving dish which consisted of green beans, carrots, cabbage and cauliflower cheese, the veg were cooked beautifully, as I hate hard veg, but they were most definitely not over cooked . A really hearty meal, I don't know how they do it for the price, a 3 course meal was only £10.95. The pub had it's Christmas decorations up, some of the steps, ie into the pub and into the toilet may be a bit high for some elderly folk but only to be expected in a building so old, I loved it's character. I also loved the fact that dogs were welcome in one bar, so for me that was an added bonus, although on this occasion we didn't have our dog with us, handy to know for the future. There was also posters around advertising great value for money on steak meals on a tues, wed and Thursday evening, will definitely be trying those sometime!

We are local and decided to take my elderly mum for a nice meal, we know the bell well and have seen changes of management through the years. I am sorry to say that improvement is needed. Firstly the decor is tasteless and shabby, the Christmas decs need taking down and re done with some pound land stuff. As for the meal the pie was sent out by chef completely burnt, this was obvious to the chef so why send it out, needless to say I told the waitress who offered another meal with a wait, clearly not acceptable as we had an older lady with us and my husband had half eaten his. We left our meals and were given a refund of the 2 burned ones. For the sake of your locals and your pub please sort this out. Yes this is harsh but needs to be said!

Lovely christmas meal at The Bell last evening, part of a group of fifteen and all served quickly and efficiently. Well cooked tasty food which was really good value, 3 courses with coffee and mints for £14.95. £1.50 supplement for the steak. Had not been before but will go again, open fire, friendly staff and good food is surely all you want from a village pub, seemed to be good for locals but also didn't feel like they would be anything but welcoming to new faces, which can sometimes be the case with village pubs.

Had a 3 course meal with my step-daughter. Portions very big, cooked to perfection and landlady very welcoming. Atmosphere very relaxing in a traditional country style pub. They also do 3 course meals for under £15 for 2 people! Can't go wrong with that and probably won't get this kind of value for money anywhere else. Well done the Bell, I shall be returning before Xmas.

Last day of holiday we found the bell. It was nice and quiet as weekday lunchtime. The landlady was so friendly and helpful. We tried the surf and turf and I nearly fell off my seat with the size of huge plateful. It certainly didn't disappoint. Beer great, pulled just right. Just wish we had found the bell earlier in the week. Next hold we'll be back.

WOW......Having walked from 1 pub(the fur and feather)to the bell a quick march I must say, For a bite to eat...fur and feather Very over priced....we were told that the kitchen was shut, feeling rather hungry we told the bar staff our plight, who then suggested that we can use there phone to call for a take a away and eat it there....now their arnt too many pubs that would do this. So with is in mind we returned to the bell for our last night on the broads, and had an amazing meal,24oz steak £14.00 cant grumble at that.A VERY warm welcome from staff and landlady.

We arrived at Salhouse Broad on the last day of our boating holiday in the pouring rain. We walked to the Bell and were not disappointed. We had a lovely lunch, the food was freshly cooked and the portions were very generous. The landlady was very welcoming and we were even offered a lift back to Salhouse Broad. This pub certainly goes the extra mile - I wish more pubs on The Broads gave the same customer service and quality of food! Thank you for such a warm welcome.

Just come back from lunch at the bell, it has a lovely atmosphere and should imagine in the winter is very cosy. The staff were very friendly and helpful when I asked about how old the pub was it dates back to the 17th century!! The menu consists of light bites, pub classics like fish and chips, bangers and mash, steaks, lasagne, grills, and burgers, a kiddies menu and a specials board. If that doesn't fill you up there is a good dessert menu to tempt those of you with a sweet tooth! The bell offers free WiFi and has a beer garden at the rear. I must say the hanging baskets at the front are to be proud of and I am told are done by a local in the village. I am not a beer or Ale drinker but they do offer a variety of Ales posted up on the black board which I presume are local. We had two lunches which come to just over £12 you cant argue with that!!! So if you want a relaxed lunch which wont break the bank, in friendly surroundings give it a go....

Having read the reviews already posted about The Bell, I was very disappointed with the food, the furnishings and even the staff. We went there for Sunday lunch and the car park was reasonably full....a good sign I thought. However once inside, the place was empty and the alarm bells started to ring. Didn't find the staff particularly welcoming. Food order taken and didn't have to wait too long for the food. Portion size...too big. Far too many chips. Veg...soggy and over cooked. Onion rings...soggy and not crispy. Roast beef....really dry round edges. I understand the pub has been taken over in April but it seriously needs money spent on it. If a pub is going to do well, it needs a good restaurant and this just does not cut it. I'm by no means a snob but sticky tables and old fashioned place mats? No thanks...we won't be back...sorry!

We had a spontaneous trip out and stopped at the Maltsters Pub , we were hungry so decided to order the Roast Beef. Oh my God was it good, the Beef melted in the mouth and it looked as good as it tasted. Staff were friendly and did their very best to look after us while we were there. We will be coming back to try more, my waistline may not thank me though. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos of my food as I was hungry and tucked in!

Stopped here for a quick bite in the evening whilst passing through. Limited menu, I had pie and chips. It was hot and tasty so no complaints. I sat at a small corner table and when I went to put my bag on the floor my elbow got caught up in a whole nest of cobwebs that ran floor to ceiling. Moved to a different table and when I looked at the carpet it was glistening with slug slime! Yes you read that right!! Trails and trails of slug slime all over the carpet. I went to put my bag on the chair next to me. The chairs are covered with faded pink felt like fabric that would have been all the rage in the 70s but it was thick with long hairs all trapped in the fabric. The window sills were covered with dead flies. The bar man - am I allowed to say man in these politically correct times?? The bar person / server was however very friendly, welcoming and polite. Very depressing place, definitely needs a clean and makeover.

We had a fantastic birthday lunch for my Mum. Staff members Poppy, Nicole, Carolyn and Abbie were very helpful and attentive, which made the visit very enjoyable! I had the signature burger with a side of halloumi fries; both were fantastic. My mum had the steak pie, which you can’t go wrong with, as it comes with a good portion of veg. My dad had the toad in the whole which was from the specials; it does lack veg, however he said it was great. For dessert, we had a sticky toffee pudding and a trio of dessert which we shared among us. They also made a board with a small bit of brownie that said Happy birthday on. Like i have said, the service was great and so was the food!!
