The best restaurants serving British food in East of England

Th staff are lovely and helpful, the place itself is very nice but I remember now why I don’t call in, the time it takes to serve and the cost. Apart from one other person the bar / restaurant was empty. So not rush off one’s feet. The cost was, in my humble opinion, far too much. For what I had, breakfast with a coffee, it was twice as much as a local competitor but not twice the value. All very nice but if you are in a rush and/or watching the purse strings, I would go elsewhere.

We called on the off chance for a family Sunday lunch. We were told they’d tables early or late so without any thought we drove straight to Clare and settled down with a well poured pint for a Sunday lunch! The vibe is friendly and relaxed with lots of smiling waiting staff. It’s perfect for families of all ages and they’ve clearly put their stamp on this lovely village pub. The garden will be useful when the weather improves too. We went for the sharing roast and a tray arrived with quality, perfectly cooked lamb, roast beef and probably half a chicken. Generous amounts of roasted and green veg plus a cheesy leek/vegetable dish, plus pigs and blankets, excellent roast potatoes and Yorkshires with a jug of rich, home made gravy. It was just like a roast you’d have at home (if you had the time to prepare). We managed nearly all the meat but had to leave some of the vegetables, so the servings are certainly generous. Unfortunately we’d no room for any puddings. But we’ve vowed to come back for some of the special events and our only advice would be to book to ensure you get a table. In all a lovely addition to Clare with perfectly cooked food and friendly service.

Ordered kebabs online chased up over an hour later to be told they forgot to do it and couldn’t give a delivery time. In the end collected my order got no delivery charge refund,no apology and when got home found the portions were tiny and no rice - rang to complain was told they’d run out of rice and forgot to tell me also that the portions were tiny size. Was normal - we’ve previously had great food and service from here and recommended to friends however we will never return and will not recommend after this rubbish experience

Great evening spent at The White Horse, which was packed and had a wonderful atmosphere. Group of 8 of us. Service was excellent and lady was very amicable. Food was extremely good we tried every starter, main and dessert all of which we found to be excellent quality. Great portion sizes and fair pricing. Would definitely recommend and return. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Visited the Secret Thai Garden in Coach and Horses, recommended by friends. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and very reasonably priced. The waiter who served us was lovely . He even walked us to the car with an umbrella because of the heavy rain. Unfortunately it is closing end of November but there is another Secret Thai Garden in Potters Bar which we intend to visit. I can recommend the Green Curry and my friend loves the duck in pancakes

Rude staff. More interested in talking to each other than serving customers. I was waiting at the bar to be served money in hand and the guy behind the bar looked at me several times, then another guy stood next to me came and stood next to me the barman came over and said usual to the guy next to me. It’s clear they only want you in the pub if you are a regular.

The fish was bony and the batter soggy would not recommend. And had to wait for it to be cooked .

I was booked in here with the rest of my family for the 2 nights either side of my son's wedding. The accommodation is situated in the car park with the beer garden opposite. This made it too noisy for me to get an early night on the Friday as there were cars driving right past my room and a very noisy party in the beer garden. The person in the room above made a telephone call and I heard most of his side of that too. It finally quietened down around midnight. Saturday we were too busy partying elsewhere and when we got back at half midnight everything was quiet. The bed however was one of the comfiest I've ever slept on! I did struggle with the room being very hot as there was only 1 small opening window and I couldn't really sleep with the door open! As the website says it provides Bed and Breakfast, I was looking forward to a cooked breakfast. Sadly the reason there is a fridge in your room, is because you get presented with a small carton of milk and there is a small pack of cornflakes in your room, plus a cereal bar. Not what any of my family were expecting!

So quiet, staff are lovely, menu is great. Amazing place if you want a quiet meal

Absolutely beautiful gem of a place you won't be disappointed. Friendly professional and staff who are simply wonderful. Just had a delicious cheese and tomato sandwich with side salad. That was perfect. They have a good and varied menu but pleased they have traditional snacks as well. The garden area is beautiful and so peaceful too. Friendly locals and huge car park.

We visited prior to booking to check that the menu was suitable for our dietary needs and tastes. As it is a busy holiday area and the weather was good we made a reservation for Friday 26th July. On arrival we were taken aback that the restaurant area was not set up. Just tables in disarray on a filthy dirty carpet. The bar server was pleasant and swiftly got our drinks. After that everything went downhill. We ordered Lamb chops but were told they were out of stock. Therefore the second choice of mixed grill was also not available.we then tried Chicken and Leek pie - none. In exasperation we said OK Fish and Chips - sorry none! How can a pub with food not have stock of basics at the start of probably one of the weekends that would be the busiest, especially as we had booked? We asked twice for the manager "Kim" to come and talk to us and said we were prepared to wait but twice she refused. Absolutely disgraceful way to treat customers and terrible to leave her staff to deal with her inadequacy. Never ever will we go again.

Super pub! Loads of great local entertainment, landlord and landlady couldn’t do enough for us! 100% reccomend and will be returning when in the area!

Popped in for a bite to eat and a few drinks this evening and had a lovely time. Edward took amazing care of us, and the food was delicious!

from the point of ordering via Just Eat to my front door it took TWO HOURS!! Absolutely ridiculous!! I could have already made my own meal myself! I'M NEVER ordering from this place EVER AGAIN!!!!
