The owners of this tea shop make it very obvious that they're covid sceptics. Shame as it detracts from the pleasant setting. If we'd realised this before we ordered we would have left.

I enjoyed a pleasant visit to Kim's Tea & Coffee House over the Bank Holiday weekend.A lot of people seem very agitated about their position on masks, sanitisers and COVID - although fail to realise this is their business and they can operate it however they want.I don't agree with their position at all - but I stand by their right to express it.The welcome was warm and the coffee was delicious.

Pleasant conversation with Paul and Kim with excellent coffee and bagels served. How can it still be the case that people haven’t done their own research into how small such a pathogen is and how likely it is that a piece of cloth can stop the transport into our airways ? Wake up and think.Enjoy your life, smile at everyone and don’t believe anything you are told unless you can find evidence to back it up.

Would recommend visiting Kim's where they make tea with tea leaves and there are such a variety of teas to choose from. You can also purchase tea and I believe coffee in packets. There is also outside seating overlooking a grassed area. As well as drinks you can purchase cakes, teacakes, etc. A friendly and relaxing place to visit.

Was in Saffron Walden for an event with a lot of friends and other people, we arrived with 5 people including myself, and was promptly told near the entrance (which did have a sign on it) to remove my mask. They also had a chalkboard outside, which I failed to read when entering, when I left I read it and it was advising that if they see anyone using hand sanitizer they would be asked to leave.Inside I noticed a sign that sums up the owner's, I assume she was the owner, paranoia about covid restrictions and somehow there is higher power in control of things. The sign said something like "Freedom is in peril. We must defend our lives" or something like that. It made the visit very very uncomfortable, but I relented and was outside with everyone, as I did not fancy being inside close to everyone.Bagels arrived, I will admit they didn't look great messily placed on a plate however the filling was substantial and there was a nice taste to it, well seasoned, just a bit disappointed with the lack of care when put on a plate. I am sure the locals who were in the establishment were enjoying themselves. We asked why only bagels for lunch and if they could be flexible with something else, and got another paranoia rant about political this and that, we are victims. The décor is very cream and browns, so a warm look, there was a window roof in the middle that let natural light in, which was nice too. But we did go outside for the reasons I gave before. But after about 25 minutes of enjoying their coffee, which was rather nice had a french press style coffee, we had the feeling we were being rushed to leave. After a couple of minutes the uneasy looks from staff turned into a direct question of "are you finished?"Sorry it was such as surreal visit, there was too much paranoia everywhere, not much protection for people who may have vulnerable people at home, it is effectively a high potential for a covid hot spot. And the push attitude to get us out after a while.I would not recommend this establishment, unless you are also anti-vaccine or anti-covid then you will fit right in.

Good produce, aggressive and abusive owner who thinks because she has allergies to masks and hand gel she can shout and scream at customers. whenever she wants.I have been a regular customer at Kim's and have found the gentleman to be very friendly and extremely helpful. He is very knowledgeable on the goods sold at the property and has a fantastic eye for produce. The property has a fantastic range of loose teas and the baked goods are amazing. The cafe offerers an excellent range of alternative milk and the decor is simple, but indeed cosy. The female owner on the other hand not as welcoming.I was disgusted to hear on my partner's recent visit, she felt the need to shout and scream at him as he entered the property. I will make this clear, if I was with my partner, I would have not have left the shop as calmly as he did. In looking through the past reviews a theme emerges of this behaviour being a regular occurrence, before and during Covid ( welcome to Fawlty Towers).Unlike the rest of the planet, poor Kim has had her freedoms and life compromised by Covid? This leading her ( being the only one being impacted by by this pand/shamdemic ) to having a specialist right ( screw the rest of us and our freedoms) to shout at whoever does not fit her political views or values.A shame as the business itself is wonderful.Sadly, it is off-putting that your day could be potentially ruined by one person who deems themselves the centre of the universe. If it was not for this bizarre, self entitled and selfish behaviour, I would have said Kim's is by far the best tearoom in Saffron Walden. Weird and it is a shame.

For me a visit to Saffron Walden always includes a visit to Kim's because of the wide range of teas, cakes and pleasant location. We enjoyed a substantial light lunch which kept us going during our shopping and sightseeing. Kim's is good for the opportunity to sample different kinds of tea and indulge in good quality food and this visit was no exception. What took the edge off slightly was the aggressive anti-covid safety messaging: eviction for using sanitiser and no masks allowed for rather flimsy reasons.

Lovely old fashioned tea shop with amazing range of teas, hot chocolates and a must try.. cinnamon sugar topped tea cakes .. we visit weekly with our table always reserved and a friendly welcome. I’m staggered by the reviews of low stars due to the proprietor asking that people wash their hands rather than use hand sanitiser due to her allergies… The gov directive always was hand washing is best! Went in to buy some of their excellent loose leaf tea today. However, the owner recognised me after I'd posted about their propaganda boards outside.Don't get me wrong, you are guaranteed a warm welcome if you are antimask and anti-vaxx in this tearoom. A wholesome slice of libertarianism with your tea. I, actually, hadn't been particularly rude - just pointed out that - factually - we don't live in a Communist Experiment. This did lead to a lengthy online discussion - with as many supporting the place as agreeing with me. Nevertheless, I was loudly told to "get out" and to "never come back" as well as "you're banned".It's interesting to see that a venue that vehemently demands freedom of speech is so lacking in latitude with those whose speech it doesn't agree with. So, top marks for entertainment but if it's a non-toxic atmosphere you are after - perhaps look elsewhere.

Whilst visiting Saffron Walden with my daughter yesterday, we saw what we thought was a nice cafe. Outside was a sign stating that the lady there has a severe allergy to hand sanitiser and it was not to be used. I genuinely thought poor lady what a shame for her. We entered and i started to explain that I had just used sanitiser in a previous shop and was about to ask if I could wash it off my hands when we were rudely asked to leave. I was utterly astonished and regretted entering as I naively thought I may have risked her health with my sanitised hands so quickly left. On returning home in the evening I read reviews of this cafe and now realise why we we were asked to leave. I now assume to was because we were both wearing masks. I feel it should be clearly stated on the entrance that masks are not permitted to be worn as this would save any misunderstanding or upset.

The location is perfect, and as I am too allergic to sanitiser, the fumes make it difficult for me to breathe, knowing I am not at risk here, makes it even better. One is greeted with a big smile, which one can actually see as none of the staff cover their faces, and I can understand them, having a slight hearing problem. The choice of teas is excellent, I love to try new ones. I like that everything is made on the premises by the proprietor. Certainly better than of those soulless chains!

I found this place on Saturday and I wondered why it was quiet in there when the town was bustling...now I think I know why. I noticed a sign on the door saying no need to wear a mask in the premises. As this is now a personal choice, I thought fair enough. However once I sat down I realised that the owners seem to have a problem with mask wearing, there is a sign which states "mask free zone". As mask wearing is my choice I really object to the owners signage telling me I shouldn't wear one. There's more framed posters about giving up freedoms and not using hand sanitiser as one of the owners is allergic to the "toxic chemicals" in it. I have no objection to being asked not to use sanitiser for a legitimate reason but I feel the owners are going beyond what is acceptable calling it "toxic", pushing their own opinions onto customers who haven't asked for it and who should be free to make their own choices.I found it so uncomfortable that I rushed my tea hoping I wouldn't be spotted in there! I won't be back unless they change their attitude.

We have never visited Saffron Waldon before and just by chance happened upon Kim's. What an incredible find. It was so refreshing to be able to walk in without having to mask up (in masks that don't actually work) and use hideous santiser that strips the skin. At last a common sense approach. There are very clean facilites for you to wash your hands. Friendly staff and as is the point of a cafe, good honest food. We really enjoyed our bagels and drinks, we thought the pricing was fair. A friend recommended Kim’s as a ‘must-see’ when I visited Saffron Walden. She was right! A beacon of sanity in a crazy world – it felt like we were stepping back into 2019.Set in an elegant building, with the outside tables next to the park and the bandstand, the location is glorious. But it is Paul and Kim’s array of teas (more varieties than I have heard of) and home-made cakes and scones that take the biscuit, as it were . We dropped in for a quick lunch, and stayed for three hours, as the chat with the clientele was so interesting – private enterprises like this need all our support, especially in days like these, and Kim’s House deserves it more than most. PS – I am appalled and shocked at the 1-star reviews – clearly some form of concerted campaign – this gives the public even more reason to support an excellent business.

Kim's is one of a small but hopefully increasing number of businesses who have made themselves aware of the law as distinct from the propaganda/guidance - they amount to the same thing - surrounding covid. It is the only place in town in which you are not hassled to cover your face - I assert a legal exemption - or provide personal information. I find it extremely restful and a relief from the stress of asserting that exemption. Paul and Kim are both absolutely charming, extremely well informed and it is good to have a rational conversation rather than listen to someone spouting emotional claptrap. They have my custom.

I visited there today for the first time and they had a great selection of teas and cafetière coffees and lattes, capuccinos etc with some really interesting flavours. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to try something special for their tea or coffee but I won’t be going back there again because tea and coffee is only half the deal. They informed us that they don’t serve anything gluten free. In other words it wasn’t just that they had sold out. If you are coeliac go to Cafe Coucou instead. My family and I have been using Kim’s for many, many years and to suggest that it is not Covid safe is simply ridiculous. In all the years we have been using Kim’s ‘Coffee and Tea House’ the level of hygiene and cleanliness has always been beyond reproach. You are never invited to sit down at a dirty or unclean table and the cutlery, plates, cups and saucers are always immaculate, as are the toilets. If only all caterers could follow their example and high standards! The owners work incredibly hard to maintain these high standards and should be congratulated on maintaining these standards over so many years. They have always run their business with the highest standards of care, attention and professionalism. The food has always been excellent, generous and wholesome and along with the finest selection of teas and coffees available in the area It is the finest tea shop to visit in Saffron Walden. Went here just after lockdown started to ease, and we were met by an elderly man, possibly the owner, who was quite curt in telling us they had no tables. No problem, I'm an understanding guy and people were still a little uptight after lockdown, so prepared to give the benefit of the doubt. However, on Saturday, 22nd August, my wife and I walked in, at 14.05 to be told by the same man, that they had stopped serving lunch. 14.05 on a Saturday? Seriously? That was it, he turned his back on us and walked off. We hadn't even had the chance to speak, let alone be given the option of just teas or coffees. If the owner thinks, in his own words '...but there are some (very vocal) visitors who do not appreciate our way of doing things' then I don't appreciate rudeness, especially to a lady. You are in the hospitality business and if you don't understand that, you are in the wrong business...so save your response, I've seen how you have responded to other negative (similar issues) reviews and I'm not interested unless preceded by a serious apology. I won't be troubling this establishment again. And advice for anyone in the vicinity looking for a bit of lunch, there is a fantastic sandwich shop across the road, get a takeaway from there and enjoy your lunch on one of the benches in the Jubilee Gardens without having to put up with anyone's rudeness.

We have used Kim’s for a few years. Reading through some of the past reviews, most 4-5 years old, I thought it appropriate to comment.Yes this is a different experience. It is small and does not have the space for pushchairs and feeding mums or for gaggles of young mums who want to chat, laugh and make a noise for ages and not care about disturbing anyone else. However, it does cater extremely well for a more mature clientele. Food and drink quality is second to none. Requests to modify the menu choices are usually accommodated. “Regulars” are warmly welcomed with the normal question “the usual”. Long may it continue to give a quality and peaceful service - far away from the brash “Barista “ flash culture.

I went there today for the first time with a friend for lunch . We ordered two toasted sandwiches from the lunch meal. The order arrive with only the toasted sandwiches. There was no salad and crisps on the plates. I don’t know how they can justify what they charge as one was £7 and the other £6 for just that .I will definitely not be going there again ! Rip off

3 times weve been here now, we have hot chocolate, americano with cream, cheese and onion sandwich and saffron walden ice cream tub. sandwich was packed with a creamy mature chedder, the hot chocolate was thick and proper chocolate heaven. we sit outside when the weather allows us and the surroundings are a joy. the staff are efficient and polite and there to do a job and they do there job very well and do not skimp on the quality of food or beverages. we enjoy going here and speak as we find.

We discovered Kim's by chance and sat in the garden in bright sunshine. Our perfectly toasted sandwiches arrived swiftly and were filled with generous amounts of ham and Ementhal cheese. Three types of bread offered. A pot of tea from a wide selection of leaf teas.

We came in Saturday 3rd August, when we arrived none of the staff acknowledged our existence or welcomed us. We sat down and waited around 10 minutes for someone to take our order or come say hello. No one came over or looked at us so we got up and left. Terrible customer service. Won't be coming back again.

I regularly visit this amazing tea room in Saffron Walden and not only do my family and I love the generous sandwich fillings but they are always fresh and arrive quickly at the table. The owner has been cited as being ‘less than friendly’ but he and his wife have an incredibly stressful and busy job to run their impeccable, very busy tea room. They are never rude and always perfectly civil.I LOVE the fact that you can have a peaceful lunch or coffee without children running around. We take our children in and when inside they behave in the manner all people should - sitting down, quiet chatter and polite manners. Paul and Kim have only ever been polite and always address the boys personally.Thank you for providing such great food and efficient service.

Went for lunch with two friends and my 9month old twins, sat in garden on beautiful sunny day. Asked for Diet Coke, was told rather rudely that they don’t serve Diet Coke, my other friend asked if there was anything gluten free on the menu, again guy was very rude and said they didn’t do gluten free options. One of my twins was holding the menu, just to clarify holding not bending or chewing, he snatched it out of my sons hand! Should of walked out there and then. Unbelievable you can offer this as customer service. Won’t be going back.

Nice sandwich. I would say that it would be nice if the sandwich was dressed a little better with a few salad leaves or crisps to the side. Main complaint is the poor service. The older gentleman seems fed up and a little curt when I came to pay. Nice location but don't think I'll be going back because of the poor service.

We came to beautiful Saffron Walden for the day and decided to pop into Kim’s Tea & Coffee House for lunch. The staff were attentive and efficient. The coffee and chocolate were excellent and the choice of sandwiches and bread were extensive. The quality of the sandwich was superb and I would definitely recommend Kim’s to you when visiting the town. My only constructive criticism would be that there was no garnish to accompany the sandwich. I would have expected a few crisps or a bit of side salad.

If there was a possibility to put a 0 Rating I would. 4 of us went to find a table, we asked for a wheelchair access as my Grandad is a wheelchair user and we were left felt very unwelcome and shocked by the rudeness of the staff, an older man, who told us we couldn’t come in as there is no space for wheelchair user, they cannot accommodate us. Whilst I can understand access can be tricky we could have made it work but we were literally refused entry. Very rude people. Would not recommend at all, absolutely no customer service skills at all. We therefore went to Tea Amo and they were much more accommodating, nothing was too much trouble for them and the food is out this world.

Visiting an old friend in Saffron Walden today and popped in here for a light lunch. Lovely, characterful tea room with pleasant, attentive staff. I hate cafes and restaurants where tables are crammed in very close to each other so that you almost feel you are dining out with the people you don't even know on the next table. That is definitely NOT the case here, plenty of space around each table for a private dining experience. Comprehensive and varied menu with great selection of speciality teas. Coffee was also great. Service was very quick and food portions very generous and nicely presented. My friend had a prawn sandwich, busting with juicy prawns, I had the toasted bagel with cream cheese, salt beef and dill pickles. Absolutely delicious. For dessert my friend had the Tiffin and I had the buttered, toasted tea cake which was huge and tasty. Very enjoyable, will certainly be back next time I'm in Saffron Walden. Thank you.

I walked in with my wife I asked are you still serving. My reply was a sharp bark back YES! we sat there for about ten minutes without being served the only kept huffing and tutting looking at us like we were in his way and were dirt. Then he and a woman who was with him kept talking about how the previous people who had children with them how badly behaved the children were. Making the atmosphere horrible and uncomfortable the owner looked over shoke his head. We got up and walked out. The worst social skillers and customer service

This is the first time we have visited Kim's and I feel sure it will not be the last!!! It was a lovely day so chose to sit outside which was perfect. Although we thought the food was a little expensive it could not be faulted for quantity and more importantly quality. I had the tuna, mayo and cucumber sandwich which was fresh and jam-packed with tuna whilst my better half had a toasted cheese, tomato and pesto toastie which was also most pleasing. Staff were very polite and prompt. Thoroughly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Visited on Wednesday 18th August with my Mother, we ordered a toasted sandwich to share as we were eating out that evening. It was a hot day so we sat outside, our sandwich was brought to us on two plates, I cut mine in half picked one piece up and a very graesy insect (obviously from the cheese) crawled out from underneath! I went and discreetly told the owner who instantly told me it must have flown on to my plate!!! I must have attracted the only flying insect in that area on that day also a very clever one as it was able to fly right under a toasted sandwich!!! The owner very generously charged for HALF the sandwich, ok half was eaten nut I think some customer care would not have gone amiss!!! Needless to say I would find it hard to recommend this tea shop and we will certainly NOT be returning!!!

Food was not good, and we waited a long time for it. Chips tasted ‘old’, frozen veg very hard, liver mushy and not edible. Steak and burgers looked ‘broiled’ as no searing at all. Requests for no ice
