We had a family meal at the Queens Head on Saturday. We wanted a traditional pub and some tasty good food at a reasonable price. The Queens Head did not disappoint, and we all came away saying that we must come back again soon, and so we will!! Thank you Queens Head Team

We had a lovely Sunday lunch, the food was delicious and superbly cooked and incredibly tasty. The starters particularly were absolutely wonderful, the portions weren’t huge, which I feel some places do to cover up bland food. This food was a nice sized portion but the flavour packed a massive punch. The chef adapted a dish for my wife, who can’t have dairy and was hugely accommodating. A lovely meal, at a good price with family friendly service. Will visit again!

Having had an enjoyable day at IWM Duxford, we were looking for somewhere to eat on the way home. Many places we tried were permanently closed, or extortionate gastro pubs. Stumbled across this gem of a pub. I had fish and chips, followed by bread and butter pudding. My partner had sirloin steak (which was superbly cooked), followed by ice cream. The restaurant and toilets were scrupulously clean, and the service very friendly and efficient. Very surprised that the restaurant was so quiet considering the quality of the food.

Today has been wonderful topped by a stunning meal at this lovely old inn near Saffron Walden. The staff has been so special, giving my husband balloons and a birthday card, and treating us with such courtesy. Really helpful emails previously sent made this meal an amazing experience and I can’t thank mother and son enough. The chef deserves a medal.

We walked to this Pub from Saffron Walden for a drink, decided to stay for lunch. It had been very well renovated and had a nice atmosphere. The host was friendly and efficient. They was a good selection of ales to choose from and both sandwich and small plate menus. We chose small plates and the fish & chips and scampi & chips both with very good fluffy chips and mushy peas ( fresh peas) which was a nice change from sweetened processed peas you usually get. The food portion size was good and reasonably priced. Will definitely be returning.

The restaurant/hotel is in a good position, just off the M11 and has lots of parking. What attracted me was the fine building and a sign about home-cooked Sunday lunches. It was not a Sunday, but I was hoping that my meal would be home cooked, which I take to mean prepared from scratch and cooked on the premises. I am pretty sure that this was not the case with my lunch, so it was a disappointment as the quality was not great and the price was highish for what I had. On the plus side the staff were friendly and obliging.

Just had a night here courtesy of a Christmas pressie from our daughter in law. A cold weekend and after sampling the charms of Littlebury, which was picturesque but all the shops are now residences, we returned to the Queens Head for lunch. Sat in the "Snug" in front of a cheerful log fire before going back to our room to freshen up before dinner. A glass of wine, again in front of that fire before eating in the restaurant. A comfortable night's sleep then a short walk into Saffron Walden where we found Molly's coffee shop with its lovely selection of cakes before walking back to the inn Unfortunately we had to leave for home and couldn't stay for lunch which looked to be very popular. A smashing centuries old building, welcoming staff and good food and drink

The chips are amazing - seriously crispy and hot and delicious. The chicken wings were also good, but the price is £6ish and you get 3 chicken wings....very overpriced and needs to be looked at. Overall good and would go here again.

Couple of pints at the bar of which I have to add that the staff were very friendly and efficient. As the hotels/b&b's were full in Saffron Walden we booked to stay 1 night at Queens Head. We stayed in room number 1, what a disapointment. The room was damp, dirty and the bathroom needs a total overhaul as it has areas around the bath that were mouldy and rotten. We were given 2 towels, no bath mat supplied.Breakfast was awful. Food tasted like it had come from a well known frozen food chain. Very bland and minimal. Service was dreadful. Initially served tea/coffee, order was taken, then waited 15/20 minutes before anyone appeared again. On checking out my husband mentioned that room 1 was damp and smelt musty, very little concern was shown. We were charged £75 , way over what this was worth.Would never return or recommend

Visited with a friend for a Sunday lunch - she had booked but given most of the other reviews, we must have drawn the short straw. We were put at a table just inside the door that was not the best location nor very comfortable but a good view of the bar and comings and goings. We both ordered roast. On top of, and covering the whole plate sat half of a huge carrot and half of a huge parsnip, underneath was lamb, so-called roast potatoes and soggy Yorkshire pudding all sitting in gravy. Somewhere amongst this insipid pile was white cabbage (no sign of fine green beans as described on the menu). It looked totally unappealing and did not taste much better. I ate half to be polite even though had been saving myself for a nice roast; I couldn't face eating any more. Price point probably was indicative of quality at £9.95 (Sunday roast). Soft drinks, 1 tea and 1 cappucino that looked more like an instant coffee with a bit of froth bobbing on the top. A couple next to us came and went and then I saw a "cloth" being pulled out from behind the bar to wipe the table. Not sure what it had been used for but I was pretty horrified. I didn't think the place generally had a particularly clean and hygenic feel to it aside of it being dark and oldy-worldy/chabby chic inside. The small outside seating area backed onto the car park and was popular with smokers. Upside was staff were friendly and accommodating but unfortunately I will not return on that basis.Littlebury itself is a small village/road just outside Saffron Walden - a nice church and setting but really nothing in particular to stop for - except for this pub that happens to serve food.

I've been to the Queens Head a couple of times. One Sunday we had the Sunday lunch special and I wasn't bowled over by it. My whole plate was saturated in gravy which made everything soggy. I would have preferred the gravy on the side. The next time I went I had dinner there which was a very tasty beef & wine pie with gorgeous creamy mash & perfectly cooked green beans. Plus some gravy 'on the side'. I was impressed. My husband's Goan Curry was awesome and the children's meals went down very well! Plenty fish fingers on my daughter's plate and a lovely big burger on my son's! My only little quibble was the plethora of stingy nettles in the children's outdoor play area. I would personally get rid of then .

Sunday lunch visit - Good range of beer and wine, friendly service. Sunday roast was perfectly acceptable with the common issue of it being a late sitting so stuff had obviously been around a while. I had chicken and ham pie, my partner had steak and Merlot pie. The pies were homemade with pastry all round rather than just in a pot and topped with pastry. They were the best pies I've ever eaten. Well not at the Queens head, maybe because the owners have a child themselves they understood. We were given a family room which was ample for us all... as we are used to travelling so always have our travel cot with us however once the owners saw we had a baby an they kindly put a travel cot up in the room for us .. which saved me having to unpack my car and a lot of faffing :) ... considering its a small village hotel didn't think this would be something they would offer... especially as I hadn’t mentioned it when booking. We were made to feel very welcome, the garden is huge and has a great climbing frame (which my son just loved).. Popped into the Queens Head Inn on our way back from seeing some friends near Stansted and were welcomed by the landlord as soon as we sat down at the bar! The place was lively with lots of people eating in the restaurant area and quite a few tables occupied in the bar too! Alovely quaint village pub - so lovely to see such a happy team working too! (We later found out it is a family run business - landlord and his wife and his son too!). Such a shame that some of these inns are having to close their doors to the public, however, I do not think this will be one of them anytime soon. We didn't realise that there were rooms at first (according to my girlfriend, I couldn't miss the sign advertising the fact but hey ho!), but the landlords wife asked us if we would like to see 2 of the rooms in case we were ever passing that way again and would fancy stopping over! What a lovely touch!. She explained they were in the process of refurbishing areas of the inn and that there were activities like open air concerts etc. that took place in the village from time to time that may be of interest. The rooms once again had a quaint appeal and had en suite facilities as well as breakfast included in the rate of £85 which I felt was good value for money. It will definitely be a place we will stay at on our next visit to Stansted so we can enjoy the atmosphere and save ourselves the long drive home in the wee small hours.

Server came back to say there were no curry's available, so changed the order to 3 fish n chips , 1 burger meal. Then we waited and waited for the food to come, probably around fifty minutes to an hour from first ordering! The food was quite okay when it arrived, but not cheap (£11.00 for fish n chips in a country pub at lunchtime) Overall we were left with the feeling that customers were not that important to them, I have since had other people also telling me food is served very slowly there so won't be going back.

So here I go again..firstly, even if you have a wedding party, let your paying guests know that youre not serving lunch, a simple email or even a text would do..to save us driving a further 3 miles to get lunch.. Then theres the ridiculous check-in time of 4pm..even though the confirmation email states 2pm ! .who wants to check in at 4pm?..apparently its so people can check out later..why anyone would want to stay here longer than 11am I don't know! ( We left as soon as possible after the revolting breakfast )Room:..small, small bed, sink in room not in what is laughingly called an "en suite"..really?.The smallest TV ive ever seen, put behind the bed, unless you sit on the floor, you cant see it..but because the bed is so short you just might !. Breakfast...dangerously undercooked bacon, revolting coffee..broken glass on the floor was there before breakfast, and still there on check-out. Overall a very nasty little place. How they can justify £85 a night is beyond me..I would not pay any more than £30..and I look forward to the managers response to this. An awful pub, in a lovely village..shame. Has put me off going to anymore events at Audley End. So DO NOT stay here if youre attending one if these! Good beer, fairly extensive menu. I had ham ,egg and chips (an uninspiring choice) and my colleague a fish soup. Both were judged to be good. We went into the Queens Head Littlebury today for Sunday lunch. It was advertised as Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. When I went to order I was told there was no roast beef only pork, chicken and a nut roast. We ordered two roast chicken. We waited 45 minutes before the meal arrived which was a surprise as there weren't many people in the pub. The meal consisted of a very small half chicken which was very dry and overcooked, one quarter of a roast potato, two small slices of carrot and a portion of cabbage which was nearly raw topped with gravy. There were no traditional Sunday roast trimmings such as stuffing and Yorkshire pudding. After the meal I was asked by the waitress if the meal was OK. I said how disappointed we were with the quality of the meal and the lack of the advertised trimmings. She just stood there and looked blank. We won't be going there again.

Very slow service, has to ask for menus, then before we had chosen we were asked for our menus as they didn't have enough for other tables. The menu was sparse. Three of the four of us wanted the handmade burgers but then we were told there was only one. Starters were good but the portions were small. The menu was confusing and when we ordered something incorrectly no one said anything until it came, even the waiter admitted it was misleading. Soup was served in a pasta bowl and was asmall amount. When the mains came out the bread on the only burger was mouldy, they offered a replacement dish but that only arrived 25 minutes after the rest of us had finished our mains. By this time we just wanted the bill. I was given the bill, got my card out and put it on the plate with the bill. 10 minutes later I was told there was no wireless card machine and I needed to pay at the bar, I did and we left, never to return!

Popped into the Queen's Head for Sunday lunch before going to Audley End house. Nice tasty food for a decent price, with a bouncy castle to keep the kids happy. Prompt and friendly staff. I will definitely be going back.

While taking a circular walk around the Audley End estate, instead of starting at Saffron Walden, we planned to set out from Littlebury, Essex. As we were running a little late, we decided to eat before our hike, so tried the Queens Head Inn. It was exactly the right choice. The inn has been under new management for the past 11 weeks and the new tenants are putting a great deal of effort into making it something special. The first special feature was the roaring, open fire ( a real one not a gas substitute) with a range of seating from sofas to upright chairs. We sat in one corner near the fire and ordered the pie of the day and a Caesar salad for main course, with coffee and walnut ice cream from the local Saffron Walden maker. All the food was excellent. With a large glass of wine each, the total bill including a tip was £35.00. After the completion of the walk, we stopped in for tea and cake. A thoroughly pleasant experience, with very friendly and cheerful hosts.

We stopped into the Queen's Head for lunch after touring the area. The dining area is very clean, as well as the washrooms. Atmosphere is delightful. Both my spouse and I had the Littlebur(y)ger and it was absolutely excellent. Under the bun was a generous offering of cheese, carmelized onions and fresh sweet peppers. Yum. Service was courteous, prompt and very pleasant. A wonderful place to have a good meal at a great value. Highly recomment.

We went to the queens head inn after a visit to audley end house which is just up the road. we stayed at the pub recently and were happy with the quality of food so decided to try their carvery. I have to say my wife was blown away by the food and commented that it was as good as she would cook at home. There was a choice of four meats which surprised us and the potatoes were real! The veg was cooked to perfection too. Will visit again.

The food was freshly prepared, and locally sourced where possible. The fish was prepared with a light batter, the fries cooked till golden brown, both had the right amount of crunch. Whilst Paul recommended an ale to go with the meal.

Stopped here on way through to Cambridge on a Saturday lunch time.Land lord welcoming and there was a reasonably priced and diverse lunch menu. Bar and restaurant area had nice atmosphere. Two outside sitting areas as well to enjoy the sunshine. Good sized car park. The pub has rooms as well but can not comment on these. Will definitely pay a return visit :-)

Thought we would try the carvery as its a very local pub for us. Well we were very dissapointed. Food was cold, a choice of only 3 veg. My daughter needs Gluten free and they had put flour in the braised red cabbage! why? the other was cauliflower cheese and carrots which had little flavour. Dissapointingly underseasoned. We took our own gravy which was lucky. Its a shame, but neither of the people in the pub asked if we had enjoyed our meal. I would have said something if they had. Unlikely to return.
