A simple but well executed menu. Good choice of beers and attentive and friendly service. Highly recommend this establishment.

Lovely food... really nice, but just missing ambience. Sat in the back room with a working fireplace that wasn't roaring 🤯 The room was cold. The junior staff were lovely and assured us they would find out how to make our experience warmer....the result was a builders air blower. When you are charging £22 for 1 course Sunday roast.. which was lovely.....call me old fashioned but a warm toasty room is kind of what a Sunday roast is all about? Hats off to the kitchen, hats off to the table servers.....but I think the purse string people are missing the point of what they are trying to achieve. Warm room...open fire 🔥. Simple.

Wonderful experience We visited on a Friday night as a group of 8. The staff were lovely and friendly. The restaurant / venue is spotlessly clean and airy. Service was quick and the food was great with generous sized portions and a good selection of wines. Looking forward to my next visit Thankyou

Went for Sunday Roast which was quite simply the Best I have had. Had chat with Head chef no surprise he was trained personally by Gordon Ramsay and had been head at several Michelin Starred restaurants for him. The beef was from Turner and George which i reguarly buy from and is best in UK IMO. Overall exceptional and will be a regualr

This is a local, and much about it to praise including the wine list and service and cleanliness. However, the second time I’ve eaten there and just not impressed. Tonight I ordered bolognaise arancini. Half way through I realised I wasn’t tasting bolognaise and found peas (which I hate) in there. Complained and turned out the chef had made ham and pea arancini … served without informing me so a good job I don’t have food allergies/ religious objections to pork. Rice was also over cooked for arancini. Very disappointing. Service staff were very good, and crediting us the money next time but seems slack of the chef. Previously have had pizza which lacked flavour, and a friend had carbonara which was scrambled. Unless the cooking improves I will only use it as a drinking pub from now on.

Went to try the new Italian in the Swan, wow food was delicious, pizza bases were amazingly light and made on site, the risotto was packed full of seafood and very creamy, a beautiful dish. Portion sizes were large, Highly recommended.

Great Experience from start to finish, Waiting staff were all very well dressed in a nice uniform, and all very officiant and polite, accommodated my food allergies as I can not eat gluten and dairy, and I ate an amazing roast dinner, will definitely be returning. We visited The Swan Inn yesterday with our four children and the roast dinner was outstanding. Perfectly cooked beef, crispy roast potatoes but fluffy on the inside and all the trimmings. We will definitely be back. A lovely family pub/restaurant with excellent food and service!

We had a fabulous Sunday roast at the Swan Inn yesterday! What a lovely place - full of atmosphere, modern and yet cosy, and so welcoming. The staff are all young, smiley and full of good cheer! The food was really delicious, and we loved our table in the bar area. Our dog was made very welcome too - essential for us now! I really wish the restaurant all the best of luck with its new venture, and hope that we can visit again soon! Thanks again for a great experience.

The Swan Inn was located in an idealistic setting of the peaceful, picturesque village of Felstead. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the food was served in a pleasant atmosphere. I ordered a main course of roast dinner with beef which was really well presented and tasted absolutely delicious! An amazing meal, served by lovely people! The best roast dinner I've had Iin a long time! Thank you guys! I will definitely be returning soon!

First time here since it reopened. Food very nice and great service. Beers a bit expensive. Only real complaint is the noise. When we arrived, the place was reasonably busy. The room has wooden flooring, no curtains of soft furnishings to dampen the sound so noise just bounces around. Even the waitress was having difficulty conversing with us at times. Once it emptied out a bit it got a bit quieter. I will probably avoid until this issue is sorted which is a shame because I really enjoyed the food.

First day of the Swan Inn new Sunday roast, and whilst there were a couple of teething issues, the food was very good. We had the scallops starter and then the rib eye beef roast. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, especially the Beef. Personally, I’d say, less meat more roasties and some green veg would be nice. Please be aware Roast dinner little veg no cauliflower cheese very disappointed you have to pay extra for roast potatoes £4 for 4 wine watch out £11 a class Sauvignon unacceptable you can get a bottle for 7.50 I get the same class Stock ingatestone for 7.50 apart from that Staff lovely and friendly but unfortunately I could get a nicer roast in Stock Harvard Inn I won’t be returning to Swam Inn Feltstad Essex overpriced

We visited recently with some friends & sadly had a lacklustre dinner. Good things: It was clean & has nice décor. Areas lacking: Painfully slow service /inadequately trained staff. Not their fault but it really impacts the overall dinning experience. We asked for table water three times, waited for wine to arrive, encouraged them to take the empty glasses back, I'd nearly finished my pasta before parmesan arrived. (Having requested it twice) We were overcharged on the bill (Drinks that we didn't have) & it's expensive (Even without the bill error) It felt fresh in the room (It wasn't particularly cold outside) & the lit fireplace nearby was neglected until we tended it/ got it going again. My arrabbiata lacked seasoning (spice) & there wasn't any salt & pepper on the table to help remedy it. Overall disappointing but with some training & some tweaks it could easily be substantially better.

Wonderful food. A genuine carbonara - which is rare to find.

We had lunch and there were 8 of us including 3 children, 2 of whom had allergies. The food was very tasty, great portions..we had the sea food risotto and sea food linguine and they were generous with the seafood. The service was very good! We will definitely be back!

This was the first time at the Swan since the change in management. Whilst the drinks took a while, the serving staff were exceptionally polite. The starters were really good, we ranged from bruschetta to prawns. The mains were mixed. Great pizzas and kids pasta. Ribs average and the risotto whilst initially good, one of the guests found some grit - which they bit into. We fed this back and the chef insisted it was a peppercorn! It was definitely not a peppercorn. Many of us know what that tastes like!! We didn’t make an issue as another family member was paying - but personally felt the chef should have been honest about it! Something to reflect on I think.

The food is not bad at all but I'm giving 2 stars due to the 35 minute wait for starters with no explanation, no apology, no offer of bread & butter a la table, basically poor communication. It's not as if they were busy either. The mains followed on with only a slightly longer than usual wait. Also the phone call only 1 hour prior to the booking, moving us back by half an hour, the explanation being that they had taken our booking for half an hour before they actually open!? Sort yourselves out!

This was our first time back in the swan under new ownership and must say we were very impressed. Great atmosphere, extremely attentive staff and the food was delicious! This place has been turned around exceptionally. Well done!

Honestly I was apuled with the state of this establishment I went in to be ignored for a large amount of time by the man behind the bar. After we had eaten our food was delicious and the service for waiting was lovely and truly took care of us but then we were wrongly spoken to by the manager who told us we needed to leave as we had been there to long and in a very nasty manner we then continued to speak to our waiter who tried to plead his case and apologies on his behalf however I do not believe that anyone should be spoken to anyone like that it was honestly disrespectful shall never be returning

Excellent food, variety AND portions - keep that standard up. Young waiting staff - give them a chance, they’re polite and courteous. However… did not appreciate paying the bill, with still full glasses - to be basically be told to move on- that they’d failed to add to their booking form online that the table was at all time limited regardless of the £250 bill we paid!

I moved to the local area not long before lockdown and had some thoroughly enjoyable visits with my friends so I was gutted to see the lockdown begin as the staff, atmosphere and owners were all excellent and I am very happy that the pub is now back open! This is not a welcoming bar, the staff were not engaging, scruffy looking and just didn't want to be there. The actual pub is shoddy and very expensive, £16 for one glass of wine, a pint of beer and bag of doritios! It has no atmosphere And welcomes groups of 20 yr old Towie wannabes, not a family welcoming pub as advertised... This is my 3rd attempt of visiting in a desperate bid to like my local and it was sadly my last.

Stumbled upon this lovely pub in Felsted when out walking our dogs and popped in for a light bite.. we expected tasty traditional pub fare but what we got was far better! There is an extensive and well thought out menu which you wouldn't find in most pub restaurants and several fish specials. I had the best fish dish I've ever had - a generous portion with enormous king prawns and my partner could not finish his burger which came with all the trimmings. We were very pleasantly surprised to find a pub with great food that also accepts dogs, and will be returning with friends for a more formal dinner in a couple of weeks - the pub is separated with a more formal dining room to one side of the bar so doggies are welcome in the bar and lounge area. The decoration is very warm, as you'd want from a pub situated in a village as quaint as Felsted, and the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. Delighted to have found this little gem and look forward to our next visit!

A large group of us came here between a rehearsal and concert at the nearby school. We were quite limited on time so I was only able to have a main course. I had a chicken Kiev and chips with salad, the chips were lovely but unfortunately the Kiev had virtually no garlic butter in it which was a shame. The pub seemed busy and had a nice atmosphere and they did their best to get us served in a short time. The food overall was enjoyed by my fellow diners, good average pub fayre.

Been taken over by a lovely welcoming couple, which had brought such a great atmosphere and given the pub a new lease of life. Ordered some food and it didn’t disappoint, top quality and above average pub and would definitely be coming again. Well worth the trip.

Met new owner, seems very nice but only first visit, appears to have a good insight into the pubs clientele, log fire needs to go on to 'warm the atmosphere albeit there was no one in that bar, all in the original bar.hopefully will do well.

Change of landlord. Change of menu with no choice. Service is diabolical ... That's when the kitchen is open! A regular local that who will not be returning.

Let's not gloss it, the previous landlords drove everyone away. Shirty service, overpriced drink, and massively overpriced food. The new management is something else. They care about their customers and staff. It feels like a different pub. They have genuine expertise with Italian food – their freshly cooked pasta meals are excellent. I've had the lasagne and the meatballs and will be coming back for more. Oh, and finally, properly-cooked pizza. I can't speak for the non-Italian menu except to say the burgers coming out of the kitchen look great. It's just a shame this management is temporary, but if it carries on as is, The Swan is now the best place in Felsted to eat or drink – by a mile.

A great evening left to outr own devices, beers in the garden, meal for 10, quick polite service. Meals received within a good time and if excellent quality. Just perfect 👍

Came here for a catch up lunch with a friend, picked this place as it had a vegan menu. The menu was amazing, there was a great selection for all courses, it was really nice to not have to eat the one vegan option on the menu, the pub is very nice inside and has a garden area too. The staff were brilliant, happy, friendly and very very helpful, they were very busy as there was a function on at the time we were there and nothing seemed too much trouble. 5 stars and will return next time I'm in the area.

Had booked a hot air balloon flight nearby and needed to get a quick meal and drink before we took off. Unfortunately we was running a little late when we found The Swan. They couldn’t have been more helpful when we explained we didn’t have long (one hour) The gentleman behind the bar told us the kitchen was about to open and suggested the Chicken sharer meal. It came out in ten minutes was very tasty and exactly what we wanted, we had drinks and coffees and was out in time for our flight. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back, with more time to enjoy the pub. Thanks for making a great day even better.

Food was fantastic, table service excellent but the manager was miserable and seemingly intent on ruining the experience. We as a table got a lecture for booking two tables (for 6 and 4) online instead of calling for one of 10. Sometimes people can’t call (we are holidaying from abroad and without mobile coverage)....in any case isn’t that what online booking is for? Surely if you want to communicate something like this with your customers, you would include this in the messaging within the booking app, rather than speaking to us patronisingly and making us feel uncomfortable. Later on I informed the same manager that the men’s toilets had run out of both soap and hand towel, to which she replied, ‘they were stocked earlier, it’s been a busy day’. Tip: I wasn’t looking for excuses, just letting you know so they could be restocked. A real shame this person ruined our visit, as the food was delicious and good value for money, while the wait staff were polite, patient and most helpful. Hopefully patrons will continue to visit and get a better experience, without the negative interactions

Came for a drink and a quiet moment to read my book with my husband and was pleasantly surprised by the new layout. So warm, and welcoming, air conditioned!, nice comfy seats just what you want on a afternoon away from the kids. Definitely worth a visit. Haven’t tried the food this time, but will definitely be returning.

So, as a family and occasionally as a couple we stop by fairly regularly for a drink or a meal. We have found that the food is always of a good standard and enjoy eating there. Children are well catered for too. Based on food alone my review would probably hit a 5. However, we are really unsure about the new layout of the restaurant/bar. It really has changed the ambience of the place, and not for the better. It feels a little disjointed. And the new bar area whilst larger does not give the friendly cosy warmth the former bar area had, which is a shame. The outdoor barn area and bar is a great little spot on a warm summer day, and their hog roasts, bbqs and street food outside is delicious - more of those would be great!

My wife and I both had turkey, roast potatoes and vegetables and finished with ice creams and sorbets.An enjoyable meal. The music on the television was a bit distracting for our tastes.
