The Dog & Duck in Uttlesford

We had an amazing Sunday roast today at the Dog and Duck, 1 beef and 1 pork. Huge portions, loads of veg, and a great cauliflower cheese thrown in as a bonus, the roast potatoes were spot on too, always a good measure on a roast dinner out! Food and plates were piping hot, bonus points for that too service was great, lovely girls, and a really nice chilled atmosphere. We shared a chocolate fudge cake desert, which was to die for, definitely food coma inducing. The best roast I've had out in a long time, well done ✔️

Nice food, a large portion of fish and chips, however one star less because batter on fish was not crispy and taste bit bland ,not like anywhere in chip shop. Otherwise, it's all perfect. ,, Pet friendly" ❤️🐾 was my main reason for choosing this place

Me and two friends had a wonderful meal here after visiting Mountfitchet castle ,the fod was lovely and locally sourced, the staff were friendly and great to talk to ,i highly recommend this pub if your ever in Stansted Mountfitchet.

Arrived at 12.20 to an empty pub looking for Sunday lunch. Barman and both serving staff didn't have a clue if we could be served. Server went to ask if we could get lunch. They then remembered that table by window wasn't reserved! Beer was great,Sunday lunch was underwhelming. Beef was cut so thin you could see through it, gravy had no flavour and watery! Filled a hole before flight but wouldn't recommend to anyone. When we went to pay staff didn't even ask how it was. Lucky really because I would have told them how I felt. Paid bill with no tip. Basic hospitality from servers was missing. The solitary person sitting at the bar when we were finally offered a table said we could only have beans on toast. I wish I had taken up his suggestion it would have been far more flavoursome than the what we was served as a Sunday lunch! Pity really pub looked like it had great potential.

Great English pub experience close to where we were staying at Stansted airport for an early exit flight. Good pub food, helpful staff and warm atmospherewith local pump beer. Better option than in-house hotel food.

A really nice place to eat and drink. Meals were generously sized and decently priced. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Beef pie was delicious!

Came in for lunch and was warmly welcomed. Food was fantastic (hot and fresh)! The fish and chips was a huge portion. The weather was lovely so we took advantage of the nice rear garden. 10/10 would recommend

What a lovely old English pub . My friends and I had a brilliant evening. Good food good beer , wonderful service and great entertainment with Tony Skeggs ( and friends) Will be there again .

Popped in for a late lunch, was quiet at this time but the service was very friendly and the food was fresh, hot and definatley filled a spot.

The place was empty on a Saturday afternoon.Thats tels you a lot about the place

Lovely pub. Real ale is on form (Timothy Taylor's, abbot ale). Often has some entertainment and all the usual sports available. Nice outside seating areas. Classic pub grub available

thank you for your reply… in fact the dog poo was there for 2 hours after i raised the issue. customers stood in it and had to go home to change their shoes…. you miraculously ‘disappeared’ when we wanted to talk to you and you left it with very junior staff…you did not move your car!…. but we will return as its a nice pub and maybe this was just an unfortunate error on your part… i think you should have come to discuss it yourself and apologise to us and the other customers who were also very unhappy

Best pub and grub in StanstedMountfitchet. Bar staff and owner very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit. We will be going back for sure.

We were made to feel very welcome, we reserved a table for five right next to the bar. The waitress and bar manager service was excellent! We have not had a meal at the dog for a while and the roast was the best yet! Lots of fresh vegetables with cauliflower cheese was superb! The chocolate brownie and the chocolate peacon pie were delicious and all the deserts went down a storm. Please pass on our thanks to the chef best in stansted by far!! Thank you

The only downside was that the table was sticky from the cleaning products

Rang to make a booking and was told they were fully booked, went elsewhere and ended up in the D&D to watch the 6 nations match about an hour later, there was only 6-7 people in the whole pub including the staff

Food I had was so bad sent back Wife enjoyed the pie Staff were OK but the experience left a bad taste

Friends brought us here for dinner on our last night in the UK. We had a lovely meal, great pub food and the service was good, staff very friendly.

A wonderful time had by all. Thank you to all the friendly staff 60th birthday buffet superb. Thoroughly recommended.

We stopped to have some refreshments before heading to the airport. Cocacolas are quite watery. We didn't understand the bar man's jokes xDD

Must of got the pub on a day off got about a friendly reception as a fart in a space suite from the bar when we tried for drinks and lunch decided it was best to drink up and get on our way :-) Waiting stage were lovely though had a chat think they must have just been busy with Christmas went down to the other end of town and ate there, shame it did look lovely oak beams and a good roast :-( Probably best to book rather than just turn up

Lovely welcoming staff. Good food. But 2 Vegetarians had no choice of main & didn't enjoy their meal. Great having a room to ourselves - 14 of us - was good ( we had 2 little ones with us) We hope to return.

I don't think I was treated with respect. They are not interested in clients. They were busy to touch about their personal issues, and everything was dirty, including the table.

Booked sunday lunch for four after travelling from the midlands prior to flying from stansted airport and all i can say is we loved it with all empty plates which if you knew how fussy the wives are speaks volumes ,will definitely return as we seem to fly from stansted often, only shame was we were all too full for desserts which looked superb

After reading reviews on here my son and I decided to visit on our way home. Really lovely old pub. It was a very, very hot day but the inside of the pub remained cool. The staff were amazing - incredibly friendly and helpful. Food was great - we opted for the Sunday 3 course menu. Starter - Prawn Cocktail - stunning. Really different presentation and lots of it. Son had breaded mushrooms - again very fresh and tasty. We both had roast - good sized portions and fresh not frozen veg. Cauliflower cheese very tasty. Desserts we had were chocolate fudge cake and waffles. The waffles were listed as with caramel sauce but had the extra addition of strawberries which made them lovely. Ice cream and cream Again great presentation.

Cozy place with a nice garden in the back and the sweetest staff they where a so helpful and nice, really recommend a visit

Came here with my Wife and my two collies. Fantastic place to go and eat and drink, especially if you have dogs. My two collies were off lead wandering around the pub. Our food was absolutely spot on as well. Thank you so much! We will come back again.

Just had the most tasty burger for lunch. The home made slaw and the fries were rather delicious too. Other half was rather taken with the Neck Oil ale (Beavertown Brewery) Friendly staff, great service... we'll be back 👍

The Dog & Duck brought back memories of eating at my grandma's house, with the thick place mats that are laid out when you order. The food was nothing like hers though... Far more up to date and adventurous! Loved the chips that came with my burger, and there was a local but friendly atmosphere to the place

Lovely pub with a country feel.

Waiting nearly an hour for our starters despite the pub not being busy. Got our drinks order wrong twice. The food was awful. Tasted like the deep fried mushrooms were cooked in old fat and the sausage and mash made me feel ill. Sausages burnt and mash swimming in button. Onion gravy was so bad I think I would have thrown up if I had poured it over my dinner. A two course meal took over two hours. Couldn’t wait for dessert. Paid the bill and told them how awful the food was but they just couldn’t care less.

We booked the place last minute and we couldn’t be more pleased. The food was exceptional and so delicious. The chef made sure of our dietary preferences. We enjoyed our starters and main courses and hopefully we will have opportunity to come back in the future.

I enjoyed a Saturday evening at the Dog & Duck watching the British Lions rugby while tucking into a sumptuous burger and chips. Great atmosphere, friendly locals, excellent food and drink, highly recommended.

Went to the dog & duck for Sunday lunch today and OMG it was amazing, a perfect home cooked roast beef dinner, and the portions were very generous, followed by a perfect, light as a feather chocolate fudge cake, good service and a lovely chilled atmosphere, we will definitely go back and can't recommend it highly enough well done and thank you.

Nice pub food a bit disappointing

Not much selection when it comes to beer, even when compared to other Green King pubs. Ordered the burger. The patty was good but rather small in comparison to the size of the bun. The presence of vegetables in the bun was noteworthy. The seasoning of the burger itself could have been better. The onion rings were too greasy.

Food was excellent but service could be looked at. The online menu for the day showed little resemblance to what was on offer. But what was available looked good and tasted better

Really enjoyed our lunch the food was tasty and we were made very welcome they even offered us a blanket if we felt cold there were 3 little pods which will be open on the 17th may with their own heaters and fairy lights I will definitely try one of those it was very well thought out well done.

Picked the Dog and Duck to meet our family for the first time in 14 months. Made very welcome and looked after safely. Nice people and the food was great. Will come again.

Sadly, I will not be coming back to the Dog and Duck - it was a real disappointment which was only saved by the glorious weather. My friend and I booked for 2pm Sunday afternoon. The service was extremely slow and, nice as the 2 young servers were, it was clear they were very inexperienced. Had to ask for a menu which they then couldn’t answer some questions about, we had to keep calling them back to ask for sauces and salt and pepper, they clearly weren’t working in sections so had both of them asking us the same questions, plus also saw them take the orders of 2 tables that came in after us before us for no apparent reason other than being disorganised. We waited half an hour to have our order taken (fish and chips and veggie burger) and it then took an hour for it to arrive. It really wasn’t that busy, though they said they’d had a rush of orders all at the same time. Ok. I flagged that our table seemed reserved for another booking for 4pm and it was already 3:15 and we didn’t have our food - they did manage to move that booking so we weren’t rushed, which we appreciated. When the food finally came, I was disappointed to find the £13 fish and chips was a very small portion- so much so that I asked for extra chips (which they were going to charge me £6 for until I complained about the quality). I shouldn’t have bothered - can’t remember the last time I had chips so bad. Greasy and not crispy and a real disappointment after waiting so long. I ate some of them because I was hungry after such a long wait but they weren’t enjoyable. The pub also didn’t have in a stock a lot of what we would’ve liked to order - no magners, no veggie option for the roast dinner, ran out of chocolate fudge cake. I appreciate after lockdown it’s probably hard to gage how much to order in, but it was still disappointing. So, to sum up in the word I’ve used throughout: disappointing.

I visited yesterday with my 4 year daughter for a roast dinner and was not disappointed. The staff were lovely on arrival, had a Covid safe kids pack for my daughter- which was brilliant and kept her occupied! The food was great and the staff were very attentive! Recommend, we will definitely be back 😊

Having eaten at The Dog & Duck many times, I wanted to write a review to recognise the high quality of food and service they have continued to deliver since re-opening after lockdown.Service is strictly table service, inside & out, staff wear masks / visors, and the pub is spotless.It remains brilliant value for money, lovely food, friendly and welcoming.Massive well done to the whole team.

Had a takeaway for my father in-laws 80th birthday. Food was superb, very fresh and good value. Really enjoyed and please pass on our thanks to the Chef and the team 😀

Just had take away roast dinner for mothers day...... It was absolutely amazing, plenty of food that was hot and tasty, we will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the take away menu to support this lovely pub during difficult times x

Tasty food, well presented with a Continental flair. Very fast service. A large jug of water provided immediately with cucumber. So RARE these days of greed when most places want you to start drinking as soon as you sit.I had sea bass with green beans and boiled/toasted potatoes. Delicious. The meal for two came to only £26 plus tip.It's my third visit here and it won't be the last! If you visit, say Hi to Rafa from the "Mexican!"

The pub is ok, the ambience ok, the service ok. Just don’t eat here! We had two incredibly lacklustre cheese & pickle baguettes. No effort in their preparation. Small supermarket baguettes with tasteless cheese and a tiny bit of Branston Pickle. Really disappointing - I’ve had far better baguettes taken away from Tesco’s, so save yourself some money. This pub really needs to up its game.

We stopped here on a Monday evening, 20th Jan as we were looking for some dinner. Really glad we found this pub as the food is excellent. I had sausages with bubble and squeak which was really tasty, my partner had a grilled salmon fillet which was also excellent. Both were generous portions and good value for money. Friendly owners too. Would definitely recommend this pub

What a great pub! We are from Australia and flew into Stansted tonight from Europe, we found this place by chance. The service was amazing - I’ve never seen such service in a Pub - thanks Patsy! The food was amazing - it was the best meal we’ve had in our six weeks. The steak was incredible!!! Very family friendly and our 3 kids were made to feel very welcome. Thank you!!

We were staying overnight at Stansted and rather than the culinary delights of the Terminal opted to cab it to Stansted Mountfichet (£11 going/£14 back). Decent pub grub - I had a well executed rump steak with a Stilton sauce and good handcut chips and veg. My wife had a decent chilli and my daughter enjoyed the fish and chips. Friendly staff - the chef checked in on us at various stages. Good, home made puddings. All served in a friendly local in a pretty little village. Much better than some anonymous chain.
