The best restaurants serving British food in East of England

Superb Thai meal. Service was very good indeed, young staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Food was excellent, fresh and good portions. Good value for money. We could not have enjoyed the experience more. We will be back.

Fantastic authentic village pub. Fantastic staff lead by landlady Sue, buffet food served for family wake exceptional. Highly recommend a visit as offer live music too.. Hidden gem beyond Blackwells cafe with great parking and outdoor seating... Make the effort you won't be disappointed.

Stayed here a couple of times and found it nice enough. However, just had a message from them to say that my booking for July has been cancelled (due to overbooking). However, rooms are still available on their website. So, what they mean is, we've cancelled your cheaper advance booking so that we can make more money from the room. I'll not be staying there again...

Unfortunately this was one of the worst afternoon teas I have ever experienced. We ordered 4 coffees and 4 afternoon teas. 20 mins later out came 3 coffees and 3 afternoon teas. After we questioned it we were told the last one will arrive shortly, another 20 mins and we managed to speak to a lady who said she was the 'acting' manager who rather than apologise, stood there counting the afternoon teas as if we were lying. Eventually the last one came out and plonked on the table. The staff seemed really inexperience and the food was very mediocre. For the price of it, you can get much nicer afternoon teas than this place.

Way back 40 years ago I was a regular Saturday night customer along with my then husband and step-daughter. Jon and his parents ran it and it was excellent. I moved away 19 years ago and came back to try it but the menu was poor and no different to a pub. I have not been back for years. However I returned this week and was not disappointed. My friend had the lamb tagine as she wanted a main meal and I had a jacket potato as I eat a main meal in the evening. Both excellent as was my decaff latte and my friend's G and T. We will return.

Excellent Fish & Chips. No criticism only praise from us. It was cooked well, served hot and well wrapped so it stayed that way until we got to eat at our holiday home.

The swan wonderful place where i married my wife on the 15th of june 2024. One week before the extreamly sad unfair end to a one of braintrees local pubs another sadly lost to rediculous fancy carabian dining we. One of the best friendly enviorments wonderful service respect due to amazing management by landlord ken amazing man with exellent management. Looking forward to see where he goes so will all of his customers will follow. Wonderful memorys. Sad loss butiful memorys. Love adam and wonderful wife serena. We will miss you swan. Loved alway.

Very hit and miss one day could have a very good meal the next it’s stale cold and seems like it’s been sitting there for ages One thing the boy with the nose ring and long hair needs to wear a hair net or at least tie it back and stop playing with it then serve food

Staying here for a valentines treat and decided to try out their Atrium restaurant. It was so lovely. Clean fresh and welcoming, the lights reflecting off the beautiful surroundings of the old priory. The food was amazing, well presented and delicious. The staff were so wonderful, welcoming and very attentive. It was very nice to come somewhere comfortable and enjoyable. The jam pudding was so light and pleasantly sweet, would recommend!! The two lovely staff this evening really make this place special!

Great service and even better food. Came here by chance but would definitely come back. Staff great couldn't do enough for us.

Took my mum here for steak and kidney pudding. This was home cooking at its best. Proper deep filled steak and kidney pudding, freshly prepared vegetables and mashed potatoes. Service was great too. This is a very traditional country village pub. No bells and whistles, just comfortable, warm, open fire, friendly and fabulous food.

I visited this (on my sister's recommendation) and we weren't disappointed. It was a Sunday in December to meet with family for a meal. It was surprisingly quiet considering how good it was. Lovely service, friendly staff and very good food. (Maybe people were recovering from works Xmas parties the night before🤣!) The food was excellent and good value. Lots of fresh veg with Sunday roast (melt in your mouth beef😋) and tasty steak pudding and amazing Yorkshire pudding wrapped around turkey and stuffing😋with all the trimmings..I could go on. The desserts were delicious and good sized portions..not sure how we fitted them in! Would definitely revisit when I'm in the area again.

My wife and I visited this pub twice this weekend and I have to say that this pub was simply put, outstanding. The food was so so good and the Sunday roast was about the best I have ever eaten. My wife loved the food too especially the desert, chocolate brownie with ice cream. the staff were so good and polite. Thank you for a wonderful experience!!! 5 stars all around.
