Food was great, everything was fresh and the mains were lovely. We came for a birthday meal, there were 7 of us, the service was very slow but staff were friendly enough to begin with. There was live music playing (which we weren’t informed of when booking) and the speaker was just behind us and we could barely hear each other talk which was frustrating. The main issue we had was with the bill, we didn’t feel (given the slow service) that they deserved the full service charge (that they automatically put on the bill) but given there were 7 of us, we still tipped £20. They were initially fine with this and no questions were asked until one of the servers came over (fairly disgruntled) and said that ‘you know we didn’t charge you for bringing the cake out’. Never in my life have I experienced a restaurant charging for a cake but he obviously felt the need to make a dig because we didn’t pay the full ‘optional’ tip. It’s a real shame this happened, as the food was great. Because of our experience of this, I wouldn’t return.

Recently attended this establishment whilst in holiday to watch a football match which was live. Whilst there i read the special board and so took family there the following day (9 of us).
The service on both occasions was fantastic from all of the staff and the food...... yummy! The facilities are great and there is ample on site parking.
Warm welcoming, friendly manner service of staff
Lovely mixtured atmosphere British n Japanese.
All the dishes are delicious, we all enjoyed them. Deep-fried authentic Japanese disjes are mainly available.
We're hopimg to go back for Sushi night which needs to sign up in advance and happens occasionally.
Thank you so much, I had an amazing experience for my family birthday celebration. 😄
Well, not often I'm leaving a review about food, but I have ordered the pork belly and WOW!
João the chef deserves 6*!
Thank you 🙏, just perfect and juicy!
The carvery was excellent just like old times with plenty of everything and good service. There were different of us and we did not have to wait would recommend.

The starters were underwhelming — the garlic tomato bread lacked flavour, and the fried Brie was overcooked and dry.
The main issue, however, was the carbonara my partner ordered. It arrived congealed, overcooked, and was frankly inedible. He’s never returned a dish in a restaurant before, so this says a lot. When he politely raised it with the server (who we believe may have been the manager), the response was quite dismissive. She offered no apology, gave a disapproving look, and said it was likely due to the “authentic” use of egg. My partner explained he’s had plenty of authentic carbonaras before and this wasn’t the issue.
Rather than engaging further, she took the plate without a word. When he said kindly that he didn’t want a replacement, she replied curtly, “Don’t worry, I wasn’t going to get you one anyway.” While the item was removed from the bill, no alternative was offered, nor was there any gesture of goodwill — and overall, the service felt unwelcoming and unaccommodating.
Unfortunately, we won’t be returning,
Lovely treat to go to the Red lion. Always lovely food and a nice cozy atmosphere. Try and come a couple times a year and always consistently good and recommend as best place to eat in Soham area.
My husband and myself have visited many times having both breakfasts and lunches. As I am gluten intolerant it is lovely to find a cafe that understands and gives gluten free options for the whole menu. The ladies there are so friendly and of course the food is top quality. We have never been disappointed with the breakfasts, lunches or just coffee & cake
I recently had a gluten free chocolate birthday cake from there (ordered for collection) which was so good. My grandsons enjoyed it which is a real compliment from teenagers.
