Momiji Japanese Restaurant and Bar in South Norfolk

Was highly recommended by my Son, The food was unbelievably great 12/10, The niggly bits, my starter came really nice 5 mins later the wife's arrived by this time I had finished mine before it went cold the waiter had forgotten to put the wife's down, main course just so much taste, as others stated the restaurant is a bit bland needs a theme and make it cosy it just doesn't stand out giving you the woow factor, for the quality of food there's noway we wouldn't return, Les Fountain 😀

Fantastic meal, had the pork dumplings, squid, steak and JFC. All very well cooked and well portioned. Wasn't a fan of cold salad with the steak but that's probably personal taste. Second time going and will be back again and again.

Excellent: nice people, great food. Have the Goma Q chicken! Umm, sorry no picture, it did not last long enough. Here is the veggie tempura, which was also good. And I really, really wanted to try the three-flavour mochi too but I was too full 😢 Great treat to come across this place at the end of an exhaustting 20+ mile walk. Looked like I was lucky to get a table even for 1 without a booking on a Saturday evening in October, so clearly they're doing something right! Thanks so much 🇯🇵🙏

Was at Momji last night. Amazingly tasty meal. Service brilliant and great atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back.

This really is a great little place. My initial impression was slightly disappointing. Although I expected there to be a Japanese themed atmosphere here, there isn't and you could be mistaken for being in any English restaurant. The menus looked like a child had designed them. However thats my only slight criticism, its all good from here. The food and service are right up there with the best. The staff were all friendly and extremely efficient. The food, well put simply was amazing. We both agreed it was one of the best meals we had probably ever had. We felt the prices were reasonable for the excellent standard of food. A very enjoyable meal and will definitely be returning.

Very nice, worth a visit for sure

Visiting in the little town of Harleston and stumbled across this little Gem called Momiji. Everything from the starters all the way through the deserts were top notch. Highly recommend and we certainly will be back when in the UK.

What a lovely evening my family had out. The food is beautiful and cooked to the best quality. My family having spent time living in Tokyo said "the food is authentic to what we had in Tokyo". The atmosphere is relaxed but warm and welcoming. The owner charlotte is an excellent host who makes you feel like a family member. We can't wait to return again

We ordered the Sushi platter in advance for 2 people to share as a starter. The food, service and drinks are of a high quality. We have enjoyed the restaurant so much that we have visited 3 times this year and we live in London.

Can not recommend this enough.. Had a fabulous wedding anniversary meal . Cannot praise owner enough spotted there was a big table of guests behind us and offered to move us to a quieter area ..all done with professionalism and tact ...

Although it was my first time visiting, all staff members were friendly and the food was authentic! I also like the relaxed atmosphere, which is the same as Izakaya in Japan. It is definitely one of my favourite Japanese restaurants.

Another amazing meal, literally every time we eat at Momiji everything is perfect. Myself, my 17yo son and his girlfriend and my 14yo, their first time eating here and they all loved every dish. Thanks Charlotte, Taka and team. Absolutely delicious.

4 of us enjoyed a good quality meal the other night. Freshly cooked to order and all the food was excellent. Good Value for money. The menu was heavily based around chicken dishes. Pork, steak, fish and vegetarian options were available. Will go back again

We had a dinner with friends and all foods was very good, even was catered for Vegan and Gluten Free person without any problem! Highly recommended!

My daughter had heard great things about this restaurant so we decided to eat dinner here when we visited her for the weekend. We shared 3 starters between us which we all agreed were fine. For the mains we had the Katsu Curry (which my daughter enjoyed although it had far too much sauce so it looked like a soup ), my wife had Salmon Teriyaki (the salmon was nice but again too much sauce and it certainly didn't go with the salad covered in vinaigrette dressing), and I had the sweet and sour chicken (which was much nicer than the average Chinese version but which chef thought that it went with Tartare sauce on top of it - it doesn't and tasted plain weird and spoilt the dish). We declined the offer of a dessert. The strange accompaniments has resulted in losing a star for this review. Despite what was said in some of the other reviews the service was friendly, attentive, and timely and I would have left a tip if they had given me an option to do so but I was just asked to swipe my card (and no-one from London has cash anymore so I couldn't leave that on the table). The overall cost for 3 , including drinks came to just over £25 pp so very reasonable by London standards. Overall we found it a change from a Chinese restaurant but not good enough for us to return in a hurry but these are always down to personal taste and I recognise that it has had plenty of good reviews elsewhere

First Japanese restaurant I'd been too, Very impressed! Generously sized portions, Didn't feel hungry afterwards which was unusual, very tasty, not overly pricey & friendly service. Definitely recommend

Overpriced, small portions for the money and not particularly tasty. Cost nearly £50 for a takeaway for 2 and very disappointed.

We shared the tempura mushrooms which came pretty quickly, but waited over an hour for our main course. My partner had a Chicken Katsu Curry and I had the JFC (main size) both dishes were absolutely delicious and we both agreed it was almost worth the wait... Honestly the best Katsu I've tired. Unfortunately this is were things get worse, we wanted desert's but nothing tickled our fancy. There was only a handful of options to be honest, mainly vegan options So we decided to order another starter to share instead. We'd decided on the spicy chicken wings and sesame chicken. Once again unfortunately the wings were unavailable so in a panic we ordered two lots of the sesame chicken thinking it would be sticky bits of chicken like Chopstix or the Chinese with the same name on a bed of avocado and edamame. How wrong I was. This was a salad with some generous slices of avocado and some sad dry rotisserie style plain chicken torn in it with a drizzle of sesame dressing. This was rather disappointing and cost around £13 Over all the mains were delicious and will be going back, just with some research

Went for a valentines night meal, the starters, prawn, tempura squid and pork guoza. Delicious. Mains JFC and rice and another chicken dish with potatoes. Nice atmosphere and a few drinks along with a fair price bill. The portions were of a good size, great flavours. It's our 4th visit and will definitely be back.

We eat here on a regular basis, so it seemed the perfect place to hold my 60th birthday meal - and we invited 22 friends to join us. Charlotte and I had super communication with the planning, and we all had a truly lovely evening. The food was of its usual high standard - everything was served as it should be,and the staff team were great. We clearly caused them a huge amount of work, but it was all done with a smile. For our first experience of Japanese food we asked for some guidance from the waitress, who was great and suggested trying a number of the starter plates with some sticky rice. It turned out to be excellent advice. Pork gyouza(dumplings), chicken kara-agé, tempura king prawns and squid tempura were all beautifully presented and very tasty. And to finish, there was a dessert called mochi. Do try it! Mochi is a chewy paste made from pounded rice. Rolled thinly and wrapped around balls of 3 flavours of very good ice cream, it is delicious. Definitely recommended, great food, friendly service, eat in the lovely restaurant or have a takeaway. Prices very reasonable.

One of my favourite places to eat. We just had the most wonderful meal here with our family, the food was absolutely delicious as always, delightful serving staff and such a nice atmosphere, do try the mochi!

We have meant to come here for a while after a recommendation- finally we made it and certainly worth it - good location, parking, sympathetically redesigned old pub building - welcoming and comfortable choice of tables - great menu with choice for all tastes great starter of chicken and then katsu chicken and chicken noodles - super hot temperature - great flavours- huge portions and served in good time - what a find - why did we leave it so long - lovely service and attentive people serving who genuinely cared if everything was ok - dont miss this place for as long as we did

Absolutely amazing food there's really no comparison, this is the best restaurant for miles! Whenever my family comes to town I always recommend we eat here. Well worth the price for both the food and the exemplary service!

We feel so lucky to have this great , relaxed, and friendly restaurant in our small town . We eat here on a relatively frequent basis and the food is always good - the staff are always lovely and we always feel very welcome. It is my favourite place for a meal! ( closely followed by the lovely Indian restaurant in town!)

I am yet to eat in at Momiji so cannot comment on the service or atmosphere of the place. But I have ordered take away on several occasions. The food is always excellent and on time for collection. It comes in plastic bowls and is presented very well. I highly recommend!

Relaxed meal and good tasty food

We have had several meals and takeaways. Always delicious and faultless meals. Great service every-time, one of our favourites!

A neighbour recommended to come here as I didn’t even know it existed! Glad we came as good was lovely and to have Japanese food in a tiny town like Harleston was a surprise! We had the chicken Karege, salmon teriyaki, chicken katsu curry and mixed tempura. All were presented beautifully and reasonable sized portions. I hope to try it out on a night when they serve sushi.

Eating here is always a treat. I know when I find myself craving for their Katsu curry and tempura sweet potato I need to return. Friendly and efficient staff and quite honestly the finest Japanese food I have come across. Would highly recommend. Compliments to the chef, kitchen and front house team.

A return visit and will definitely be back. The food was delicious and everything that I had expected. Combined with the excellent service and hospitality this would be high to recommend to friends. Mochi is a new staple of any meal, see you soon.

I’d say this is a 4 on the food side, but only really a 2 for service. The team was uncommunicative, reluctant to make eye contact or even to smile, which is such a shame. We would go back, but it just wasn’t quite the evening we hoped for. Hopefully just teething issues with new staff?

After several a few years since eating here, decided to have a change and try Momiji again. Absolutely the right decision, best takeaway l had in years. Fresh, delicious and on a par price wise with the other guys. Well done guys keep up the good work. We'll be back soon.

We were recently in Norfolk for a long weekend and we had the most amazing food at Momiji. It was the best Japanese food we have had in years. Better than the many Japanese restaurants we have been to in London. It was so fresh and authentic. We were really impressed and hope we have an opportunity to eat here again.

Oh my goodness, the food was absolutely delicious! We went on what was a busy night, but the staff were calm, helpful and attentive. We went with our two children; both loved it and are now converts to Japanese food! Lovely fresh restaurant with a nice garden for good weather. I can't recommend it enough.

Thought this would make a nice change wish I’d have read reviews before going. Very small portions curry was in a breakfast bowl and was only curry sauce on breaded chicken bits. The steak was so thin with nothing with it and drowned in soy...

Momiji is in the heart of Harleston. It is a casual place, as the name suggests, with a lovely garden. The food at Momiji is outstanding, with the best ingredients, cooked when ordered. Still, for me, the best part of Momiji is the service. Efficient, fast - and above all, friendly. I recommend Momiji Casual Japanese to anyone living of visiting Harleston.

Great food and a wonderful restaurant

I'm not sure if there was some effect from the recent assassination of the Japanese Ex Premier or it was the water but: the staff never cracked a smile during our whole visit until, guess what: it was time to pay up and the expectation...

What an unexpected find! We stopped in Harleston and saw this restaurant, so we decided to walk down for dinner with the children and our two dogs. We sat in the back garden in the sunshine and the staff brought our food and drinks out...

Great atmosphere, light and airy with really nice food, could do with a couple more veggie options though, think we had every one on the menu 🍻

Well, its taken 67 years for me to visit a Japanese restaurant. On the basis of Momiji it certainly won't be that long again! The restaurant has a decent sized car park at the back. Internally the setting is quite plain. If you are a Sushi fan bear in mind Momiji only serves this once or twice a month. They also offer a takeaway service. The food is very, very good with the majority of the dishes based around chicken. The traditional approach to serving is Izakaya, based on sharing dishes. Momiji will accomodate the 'traditional English' approach of serving if requested. We went for the sharing approach. There were two of us and two starters plus two mains and a medium rice was the right amount of food for two people. Definitely recommend the pork gyouza and the chicken kara agé. There is a small list of desserts. The mango and passionfruit mochi were delicious In terms of drinks there are the usual suspects plus Japanese beers and spirits. It is well worth trying Ume Shu which is a Japanese plum wine served over ice. It manages the trick of first tasting sweet then changing to dry in the mouth. This is certainly a place we will be going back to - SOON!

Relaxed and informal dining, the food was delicious although some of the dishes were rather small and the main menu limited.

We really love the food here, and the laid back atmosphere. Small menu, but everything we have tried has been delicious. The staff are attentive and polite.

Best place locally to go for food and super reasonable prices

Been here a few times now, you can't fault the food, very tasty but... Menu now very small. Our dishes didn't come out at the same time, one of friends dishes was a good 5-10 minutes later than the rest of the main meal. No apology. My main meal came out on a stone cold plate, my rice was quite a few minutes later, tried to delay eating, as wanted to eat the main with rice, but feared dish would lose all of its heat! Specifically said to the waitress, onion, garlic and spring onions intolerant, first dish came sprinkled with spring onions! Food as I say, very nice. Although I would say, chicken obviously dark meat, but dish expensive for some chicken and peppers. At £12.95 plus rice at £3. 3/4 the way through our stay, we were to be told our table was due for some more customers. Mmmm not great hey! Go out for evening with friends to be cut short through our visit. No-one had mentioned on booking that there was a time limit on the table. As I say great food, can't fault, other than not taking notice of intolerances, good job I wasn't allergic! Just require some staff training on customer service, or perhaps when busy, try not squeeze everyone in.

A great meal, superbly cooked and service second to none - can really recommend the tempura prawns and the teriyaki salmon, worth the visit for these if nothing else!

Excellent evening as usual. Superb food with attentive staff who were more than helpful. Extensive drinks menu and the Japanese mojitos are amazing! Food was of an extremely high standard and arrived in no time at all. Very enjoyable having many different dishes and sharing...

Had a takeaway from here last night for four adults. Cost of four main meals and a sharing starter came to £50. We all thought this was worth every penny due to the quality of the food which was still hot by the time we got home and the portion size of each meal. Would highly recommend it to others to try if you have not done so already.

Booked on 18th Nov for husband's birthday and had a fabulous meal who is hard to please with food loved it so much. We will be going back again soon.

I’ve eaten at Momiji twice in the last couple of weeks. The building is clean and warm and the staff are friendly and attentive without being OTT. The food is well cooked, and nicely presented (portions are adequate, but not overly large). If I were to be a bit picky I’d say that the menu feels a little limited, and there isn’t much variety of flavour and textures in each dish.

While not providing an abundant range of Japanese cuisine, Momiji nonetheless offered an excellent night out, and good value for money. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and service was prompt and professional. Prior to booking, they had explained that things might be a little slow due to the presence of some larger parties, but neither myself nor my dinner companions were left waiting. The menu itself is more limited than you might be used to. The lack of sushi, ramen, okonomiyaki, yakitori etc. could leave some people disappointed, but the taste and quality of the dishes served was superb. In short, if you read the menu ahead of time, and like what you see, you won't be disappointed with your meal. In particular, the tempura was delicious, and the teriyaki was miles ahead of anything you'll find in a jar at home. Just don't expect to find all the classics present. For an area of the country not known for its Japanese food, Momiji does a great job of offering a warm atmosphere, approachable dishes and good value for money. You'll find very little to dislike here, so it's an easy one to recommend.

Came on a Saturday evening for daughters birthday table booked for 730pm food arrived at 9.10pm!!! Basically they were fully occupied getting take aways out of the door and failed to look after customers in the restaurant who are paying more to eat in ....

Service was good, quiet, atmosphere, food was pretty good, I very much enjoyed the Katsu sauce with my burger, it would have been plain without it. Staff were also friendly. I would probably go back!

Despite only living around the corner, I had never visited Momiji either to dine in or for takeaway. I booked a leaving do for work and they were absolutely fantastic. The food was exceptional as was the service. Just a thoroughly nice place to spend time and with wonderful, friendly staff. Will definitely be returning and would highly recommend.

Well I’ve never had Japanese food before and after today definitely would have it again, food was beautiful and so tasty. We wasn’t sure what to order but all the staff are so helpful and guided us through the night, and couldn’t find a fault...

eventually tiring of my own cooking - which by thr way is not so bad - I tried ordering sushi (available from time to time) from home. Drove into Harlest9on, parked and entered suitably masked, order was nearly ready. Waited a little before it arrived....

It was our first time trying Momiji. We all enjoyed the food. The starters really complemented the mains. We will definitely order again / hopefully go back to eat in once Covid is over. Two suggestions though: maybe more vegetarian options in the main course. A little less salt in the Katsu chicken sauce. But overall, super.
