Had a delicious meal this evening in Isot with my mum and sister. It’s an unassuming restaurant from the outside but the inside is nice, food is delicious and portions are a very good size. They make their own baklava and it’s so good that even my sister liked it and she never likes baklava! It’s on the quiet side so lacking atmosphere which is a shame but the owner, Mertz, and his son were both so nice and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Will definitely be going back.

Third time for me at this restaurant, and sadly, there will not be a fourth. Four of us visited, and it was in the middle of the week; only two other tables during our time there. The waitress was very slow to ask to take our drinks order and even slower to receive them, hate to see what the wait could be like if it had been busy! I have to say the main meals we had were all very nice, however, portion sizes were smaller than previously, there wasn't any bread and dips offered, coffees were lukewarm, and again took a long time to be served. Service charge was included in the bill, which I think should be discretionary, as the service wasn't great at all.
In comparison to other Turkish restaurants we could have visited in the area, this was poor.
Really friendly and welcoming. They heated my pain au raisin in the microwave! which I’m not sure did it any favours. But they were trying to go the extra mile which was very much appreciated and I will definitely return and would recommend others to try this little personable cafe out.
We’ve visited The Punch Bowl many times, as it’s just 10 minutes away from us, and it’s always been a nice pub in the past. Unfortunately, something has changed, and it’s not for the better. Upon arrival, we were met with stares from the locals, almost as if we were being judged on whether we were ‘worthy’ of being there.
Despite having made a reservation, we were seated at a cramped table in the corner, right by the serving door, which was kicked open into my chair. The table had originally been set for three, but it was hard to see how it would’ve worked comfortably for any diner being so close to the door. There were other tables available, including one with just young children at it, so it felt unnecessary to place us where we were.
The food was okay, but it no longer felt like good value for the price. Additionally, we were charged for a drink we didn’t order, though it was promptly removed when we pointed it out. All in all, this community pub no longer lives up to what it once was.
Our first but not last visit.
Great ambiance with owner playing vinyl LPs.
My choice was the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, Jo’s choice kedgeree.
Both were presented well and tasted even better.
