An excellent experience with good service, good atmosphere, good staff and exceptional food. The food was varied and we’re delighted with the care and consideration to the young members of our group and the readiness to have meals etc.. Will definitely return.

We ate here as a party of seven and we all agreed the food was very good. Service was friendly and efficient. I will definitely come back again.

You know, when you want to eat alone with the person you love most, this is the place, or with your family, in short, this place is very good, I think the hygiene rules are at the highest level, the work of the staff is a work of art, this is the best place in this region for me.

I dined here with 2 friends and absolutely enjoyed it. We enjoyed the Barroccio Sicilian wine with Pork and Veggies. Goat pie, guinea fowl, crab pate with more wine; Cotes Du Rhone! The crab pate was delicious. I loved the pea & mint soup too. The food and wine here is of good quality. We ate so much, we didn't have room in our bellies for dessert! Chef Nikita has done an excellent job. We met her, and waitress Emily and Manageress Donna - all very friendly and charming. I would highly recommend those visiting Soham to dine at this pub/restaurant. Trust me, you will enjoy it. There's an outdoor dining area too.

This is a beautiful place to eat!

Not only do we treat ourselves to a meal at the Red Lion every now and then, we also celebrated and had our wedding reception here back in March. The food and menu selection is of the highest quality and the staff are amazing. We cannot recommend the Red Lion enough and look forward to dining here again in the very near future!

Have previously enjoyed dining here but this time round the food quality was very much lacking with very little flavour - though the seasonal veg was very nice - and poor presentation. Cheese board was extremely poor. Hopefully just an off night. Wine was good, service was okay, atmosphere was fine given England were playing. I know the Red Lion can do better so we will want to dine here again in the future. Overall, on balance for this evening, 2.5 out of 5.

Amazing lunch today at the Red Lion. Incredible food, wonderful service. I won't list everyone's food but I had pea soup, an aubergine main (SO delicious!!!) and apricot and almond crumble. I can never normally eat 3 courses but I didn't even leave a mouthful of food. Just yummy!!

We love the Red Lion. We've been for food a few times and the staff are great. Atmosphere is cosy and friendly and the food is always amazing. We called in for a drink and sat in the bar area by the fire and were made to feel very welcome by the staff. 100% reccomend a visit.

Another terrific meal at the Red Lion. We’re fortunate that this lovely restaurant survived the results of Brexit & the pandemic. It hasn’t been easy. It’s consistently excellent cooking. Congratulations.

Went for Sunday lunch. We both had 3 courses which is £38 per person plus an additional £5.00 if you choose beef. We had a goat cheese salad with quince and walnuts. The dressing was lovely. However, there was only a few tiny pieces of cheese, 1 small piece of quince smaller than a dice and loads of walnuts. It should have been called a walnut salad! I had crab mayonnaise which was really wet, barely any crab to the amount of mayonnaise! Also should have been called mayo flavoured with crab. We both had beef. Beef was very tender but comes on small plates. Yorkshire pudding was very small, about cupcake size, we got 2 small pieces of carrot each. The size of the prongs of a fork, wet courgette and some tiny amount of cabbage. Shocking! No cauliflower cheese or parsnips, even a bit of broccoli would be nice. Desert was apple crumble which was ok. On a positive note the staff were pleasant. I definitely would not go back based on value for money, and the incredibly lazy veg we received! Poets House in Ely is much tastier, better value for money and better quality of service.

Really nice 3 course meal at the red lion this evening with my best friend. Came in a few times and never been disappointed, you get what you pay for that’s for sure! A massive thank you to AJ for the lovely service she provided us with and to the chefs in the kitchen, beautifully presented and not long to wait at all. ❤️

Visited with some friends as a celebration and have to say it was very disappointing after hearing from a friend following a previous visit and reading reviews. The welcome was okay although service throughout was very slow and not very attentive. I nor our party thought the menu was very inspiring and reluctantly felt that the food served was overpriced for what was served. We requested some additional vegetables for the table which never materialised despite being promised nor did anyone apologise for missing this. Not an evening as expected unfortunately with none of us willing to recommend nor return any time soon.

We are so lucky to have this great place within walking distance of our home. Always a pleasure visiting and great local food.

We had a fabulous Mothering Sunday lunch. The food was top dollar and the service first class. Will certainly come again

A lovely historic pub, originally known as 'The Black Swan Alehouse' in 1620 apparently. Lovely roaring fire & beams beautifully furnished with some lovely art works on the walls in the restaurant area. A heavy velvet curtain to keep draughts at bay from the entrance & large antique radiators add a homely warmth on a winter's day. Car parking available. Attentive friendly service & delicious food. 3 courses for £23, 2 choices for each course so well worth a try! Definitely would love to visit again.

Great food, great service, great price,(even though my father in law paid!) we’ll definitely go again and we never go out because we can normally do it better ourselves, plus we could bring the Whippet !

Beautiful pub! The food was absolutely amazing!

We used to go regularly but haven’t been for over a year, and we won’t be going back. While the waiter was excellent and the ambience is great, their value for money is very poor. We paid over £15 for the Mac ‘n’ cheese with salad. The portion was the size and quality of a microwave meal for one a tin pie dish and the salad consisted of just lettuce, nothing else. The pie was in the same sized dish with some veg on the side at over £19. When asked what we wanted to drink when we sat down, I asked for a large Sauvignon Blanc. It wasn’t till we got the bill we realised this was £13 a glass. I think many shops and restaurants have used the current cost of living crisis as an excuse to charge more than necessary, and The Red Lion at Soham has jumped on that band wagon.

Fabulous surroundings and the food is excellent. Thanks to Donna and the staff for looking afterwards so well. They were both professional and friendly. Would recommend the Red lion to those who appreciate good food

I don't bother to write reviews but hubby and I went for Sunday lunch and what a treat it was. Honestly one of the best Sunday lunches we have ever had and we've tried a fair few! We both had the roast beef which was meltingly tender, juicy and pink and all the accompaniments were perfectly cooked and delicious. I'm not a bad home cook but if only I could cook like this! Exactly what you want when you go out, food better than you can produce yourself, otherwise what's the point? I've lost count of the times I've thought my roast potatoes/Yorkshires/gravy are/is better than this, but not so at the Red Lion. The food was stunning, and the desserts - I can thoroughly recommend the chocolate and orange bread and butter pudding with creme anglais, yum! We have tried other so-called 'gastro-pubs' which have either been a snobbish version of any other chain out there (wouldn't have been surprised if they were just overpriced, out of a bag ding dinners) or so pretentious they made us feel uncomfortable (and their food wasn't all that in our opinion - under-cooked veg and more fat than meat). The Red Lion is a cut above. Waiting staff were all lovely and friendly and had a chat with us and their other customers but weren't intrusive. We honestly could not fault it and will definitely be back, and soon!

Have just enjoyed yet another superb meal and wine supported by excellent service at this superb restaurant. I cannot recommend it too highly.

I recently dined here, I do feel the service and atmosphere are great. I wasn't overly impressed with the food. The let down for me were the potatoes, I just felt the roast potatoes were reheated and tasted soggy instead of having that nice crisp crunch. It's expensive and brands as upper market Dining, I just didn't expect to be let down and I do really love potatoes. Still, overall 4 star. The other aspects to the menu and food were good. I still would return, just maybe choosing something different.

Dog friendly, lovely staff. In the winter there is an open fire. Staff are knowledgeable and eager to help. Excellent selection of gins.

Lovely food! Great Service! I missed my Birthday dinner earlier in the year due to health issues so I decided to treat myself a few months later. I'm so glad I chose the Red Lion. I chose the Lamb. For me, the portion size was absolutely perfect! And for once it didn't come with Mint sauce all over it! I can't stand Mint sauce! Thank you, Red Lion, I will definitely be eating there again. 5*****

Friends and I stayed at the apartment above the red lion recently and ventured downstairs for an evening. (Apartment was great but unconnected to the pub). The service, food and overall experience was excellent. It was a surprise as this place was a hidden gem which we found without recommendation and pure coincidence. I could not speak highly enough of the staff, and though I do not live nearby, will be sure to visit if I am in the area.

Booked for lunch for Sunday, the food was fabulous, the staff very professional and attentive, overall a very good experience, could do with some background music.

We held an reception in The Red Lion's beautiful coach house and Lucy, Donna and the team were absolutely fantastic! Every guest said how amazing the food was and staff and they helped make our day truly magical! We wouldnt hesitate to recommend this fantastic venue.

Our dinner for four was absolutely wonderful. Our appetizers (celeriac & Stilton soup was amazing), mains and desserts were all delicious and creative. Drinks were great. Nice service and a relaxing, comfortable, clean decor. Would not hesitate to recommend this spot! Go!!

Aside from that what a hidden gem in Soham, lovely olde world pub little nokks and crannies, good selections of wines, beers and gins. Great service, friendly, what more could I have asked for. Delicious Sunday lunch here. Our party of 6 had between us, roast beef, pork, venison a chickpea stew and Mac n cheese. All delicious. Lovely pub, friendly service. Would visit again. Just been back for a big family birthday lunch. Cannot fault the place, amazing.

Great to see a local pub restaurant take such care of customers, and serve fantastic food to boot. Menu was wide ranging, with choices to suit everyone. All three courses were delicious. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes!

Another fantastic evening at this lovely restaurant, we have been eating here for the last two years and have never been disappointed with Lucy and her teams food, and service.

We had eaten here on 2-3 other occasions and found it to be very good, a lovely cosy restaurant the food and service had always been excellent. Our last visit was not so great we had invited a couple of friends to join us and booked well in advance, arriving in good time at the restaurant we stepped in and were completely ignored, a couple of staff had come past and seen us waiting but completely ignored us, I must be honest they were of course busy but even a simple greeting would have been appreciated. We had a drink and having ordered, our food was bought out quite promptly our meals were all lovely freshly prepared and tasty as a party of 4 a small bowl of vegetables was bought out, we asked if that was for the 4 of us as frankly the amount of veg for 4 people was miniscule, we were told the dish was for us all. There was a small spoonfull of greens each and 3 pieces of carrot that would not have made 1 medium size carrot in total! We weren't sure haw to divide 3 pieces of carrot between 4 of us!! Naturally we asked for some more vegetables. Deserts were delicious the crumble lovely but such a small portion. We used to refer to this place as a little gem in Soham, so disappointing I don't think we'll be returning any time soon.

Service is impeccable, food is so tasty with a varied menu to suit a pescatarian, vegetarian and two meat eaters! Two of us don't drink and they supplied us with a very nice non-alcoholic prosecco, the wine list for the drinkers was very good. We had a really lovely evening and couldn't fault a thing, we highly recommend.

Wow. What a lovely evening. From start to finish, a seamless enjoyable time, superb service - thanks Donna and team - and the food was delicious. Between us we had smoked salmon pate, mushrooms on toast, and hummus with some fresh bread and butter, then pork belly with amazing crackling and roasties, fresh vegetables, Lebanese lamb with rice and tzatziki, so tender, and a vegetable tagine. Lovely wine and we retired to the bar for liqueurs and desserts of tiramisu, chocolate mousse, cheesecake and creme brûlée. All so yummy. Very relaxed and very delicious. Can’t wait to come again!

Wonderful service, beautiful presentation and good wine! A feel of nostalgia with the antique tables and chairs... and they are happy to swap your chair if you want the more cushioned version as requested by my son!

Our first visit yesterday, having been recommended by a Soham resident, glad we took his advice. It's an interesting old pub with a small car park attached, and dog friendly throughout. Lovely day so we ate in garden. Food was very good, if a bit pricey, with some interesting choices. The service was excellent. Shame it was so quiet but people may have been put off by an erroneous notice online saying the pub was permanently closed (malicious rival, perhaps?) It isn't closed and it's well worth visiting. We'll go again.

Six of us (three couples) dined at the Red lion on a Saturday lunchtime. All of us agreed that the food was really excellent. I had shoulder of lamb which was perfecly cooked and my wife had turbot ("which was beautiful"). Another of the party praised the spiced goat. The carrots and creamed vegetables were delicious, as were the roast potatoes. The portions (veg and roasties) were a bit on the small side but exquisite. Prices are a touch on the expensive side but well worth it. It was cosy, the ambience was just right for a Saturday lunchtime, and the service was good and unobtrusive.

Just returned from lunch with two friends. I have been before and suggested my friends joined me on this occasion. The food was absolutely wonderful! My friends were very very impressed and couldn't believe how full of flavour the food was. We all had the lunch menu and had all 3 courses, good size portions and all beautifully presented and delicious. Our waitress was excellent, attentive and helpful in every way. Thank your for your creative skills in preparing our delicious lunch.

This was only the second time we have been here, the first shortly after it opened, which wasn't the best experience, and again this weekend. A much better experience. Both were family visits. For all in the party, it was positive. Welcoming from the start, a good selection of choices all at a very reasonable price. The icing on the cake was that one person had dietary requirements and rather than just getting a dumbed-down version of the choices on the menu, the chef personally phoned the guest and prepared a course, especially for her. Thank you, it made all the difference and we will definitely be going more often.

Without doubt the best meal we had on our recent 6 day visit to East Anglia was at the Lion in Soham. The service was outstanding and the menu was impressive. Moreover the chef delivered really excellent fare and not least top quality fresh vegetables....

What a gem, we were so excited to find such an excellent restaurant within walking distance when we first moved to Soham. The food is amazing, perfect sized portions, fresh ingredients, we have never been disappointed. The staff are always friendly, efficient and really helpful....
