Fish 'n' Chick'n in Chelmsford

Very hit and miss one day could have a very good meal the next it’s stale cold and seems like it’s been sitting there for ages One thing the boy with the nose ring and long hair needs to wear a hair net or at least tie it back and stop playing with it then serve food

Had amazing fish and chips for lunch today. The lady was amazing. I had just arrived and wanted something to eat. I thought it was a takeout only place. After placing my order I realised you could sit in there restaurant. I offered to pay more because that’s what I would expect Instead the lady told me that I didn’t need to and gave me a cup of coffee. Food was amazing. Service was outstanding. If you get a chance it’s well worth it.

So had a meal from here tonight. Wanted a delivery as not to safe out there. When i worked out price difference between delivery and collect i was shocked. Not only do they charge a delivery fee, which is fine, they put the price up a hell of a lot aswell. Ive attached 2 screen shots so you can see the difference. This is not including delivery fee of £2.50 either. This shop is clearly abusing fhe fact tbat most people dont want to leave the house. Dont mind paying a delivery fee but there is no difference in a sausage delivered to one i pick up. Unless the one delivered is wrapped in gold. Daylight robbery of your local community should be ashamed. Oh food was ok, warm not hot.

If you want some good fish & chips, then make your way to this place. The staff are very friendly, they comply with the Covid rules. All their food is freshly cooked to your requirements & is very tasty.

Good food, could be better if they had salmon on menu for a little different. Only one dessert. An apple pie would be nice.

After ordering a large cod and chips and a battered sausage and chips I had to wait for 20 minutes whilst others that came after me ordered and received there orders I got home to find the cod was a small to medium at best when I cut into it,it was overcooked and dry. I will not be going back.

We purchased fish and chips with side dishes and cost £24.00!! The chips were cold and fish barely warm. We live minutes away from the take away so they should have been hot on our return home. We shall not visit this fish and chip outlook again. Don't waste your money, it is over priced and very poor quality. Total waste of £24.00

Highly recommend this little place for Fish & Chips, able to eat in, quality of food is excellent/hot & freshly cooked. Great customer service with happy staff. Good menu choice, no need to book.

That was absolutely disgusting. I got served before my daughter and was given my food immediately (COD & chips) my daughter then got served and we waited half an hour for her battered sausage, chips & onion rings. Her onion rings were sitting there for ages and when I questioned how long it would be the chips had run out. As we left the girl said see you later and I couldn’t help replying no you won’t. When we got home we was equally disappointed, my food was cold and it was a thin scrawny piece of cod. My daughters sausage was barely battered, patches with no batter and the sausage was burnt, the onion rings were rock hard, even the cats turned their noses up at the food. If I was offered free food I wouldn’t go back it was that bad. I suggest you don’t waste your money.

Have eaten here a few times alway good service ,lovely food good choice staff very nice and the place is clean eating in the food is alway better then takeaway.

Went there to get a takeaway for myself and my Daughter. Don't quite know what happened, but the chips were all shrivelled up and looked like what was left over in the bottom of the deep fat fryer , my chicken was so dry and tasteless it was difficult to chew, I ended up giving it to my Cat and even she left it . Plus I asked for a can of drink and they forgot to put it in the bag. If I lived nearer I would have taken it back. It's a shame as the last time I went there it was quite good.

Slightly later in the evening than expected but excellent cod and chips freshly cooked served by pleasant staff. What more to say for a takeaway.

I came here last night to have a quick, late dinner with my 11 year old son. We arrived at exactly 8.45 - 15 minutes before the advertised closing time. The sign on the restaurant door said ‘open’. However, as I tried to open the door a man just rudely called out ‘we are shut’. I then pointed out that the sign said ‘open’ and that we were there before the published closing time. This was ignored - no apology, no nothing. Truly awful customer service. We just walked out. So, I don’t know what the food is like at all. If it is anything like the staffs attitude it will be terrible. We won’t return.

Ok, it is basic inside but this place serves up very good food, and nothing is too much trouble for Ashleigh, one of the best waitresses my wife and I have met! Thank you.

Had the large rock eel and chips last week and it was beautiful. The batter was cooked to perfection.

No Sausages and Saveloys cooked and ready at dinner time. As a result waited 15 mins for a chap at the back room to microwave, and he forgot that they were left in the microwave! Not good to witness him working the microwave let alone the fryers, disgusting !!!

Always pop in here every 2 weeks after Chiropractor and the fish is beautiful, and the chips the best around. Love it.

Went again tonight, cod goujons were superb, great free, chunky, fresh cod, chips were very good. Basic but very good quality food, well cooked. Nothing not to like. Thanks

3 of us popped into the restaurant on Thursday evening. it wasn't busy & we chose our table. the waitress gave us menus & we ordered our drinks & food. 2 of us had cod goujons & the other had savaloy. the meals came out promptly. the plates where piled with our food & was piping hot. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. whilst paying our waitress asked if we had a loyalty card (which we hadn't). I use this shop fairly often with either takeaways or restaurant meals & knew nothing about the loyalty card. she explained how it worked & that it had been running for years - I have definitely missed out over the years!!! thank you to our waitress for her excellent service & friendly nature. will definitely be back soon.

Have had a fish and chip take away with mushy peas . Service is great and the prices are are good . The Fish in batter is lovely . I will go back again when i fancy another one .

Called in again on a Friday evening. As usual, the fish was freshly cooked. The chips however were almost mashed. Not sure what had happened to them. We did not complain but mentioned when paying.

Popular fish n chips that has been serving South Woodham for years. Does take away from the front shop who's sit down restaurant out back. Very popular at weekends you may have to que to be served but we'll worth the wait

Popped in tonight (Friday 18h August) with my wife. We were in the queue waiting to take away when I suggested we sit in the restaurant. We were welcomed straight away my a lovely lady (whilst she was taking a bill) we took our seat and the same lady came to take our order. Her manner was friendly and helpful and it was obvious she cared. My wife ordered a sparkling water, which unfortunately wasn't available, she suggested a soda water and lime. My wife wasn't sure, but the lovely waitress offered that she would get one to try, and if my wife didn't like she could choose something else. How often are you looked after so well, irrespective of standard of restaurant? The food arrived which was hot, fresh, plentiful and tasty. Many thanks for such a lovely experience, and all for under £20.

Visitamos el restaurante el 25 de julio de 2017 nos pasado a través de la tienda de pescado hasta el restaurante de la parte de atrás. Nos sentaron enseguida tomaron el pedido. había otras tres parejas en el restaurante. Dos ya estaban quejándose de la espera por la comida. Los armarios de en frente estaban llenos con pescado y pollo cocinado. Después de una espera de 30 minutos que pedimos la chica donde estaba nuestra comida dijo lamentamos que están ocupados. Esperamos otros 5 minutos y luego fuimos a la tienda de enfrente para hablar con el gerente, nos dijo si estoy ocupado vendiendo la comida aquí no puedes tener. Su actitud era asqueroso. Nos dimos la vuelta y salimos.

Estábamos buscando un lugar para tener pescado y patatas fritas y vi fish'n 'Chick'n. Si me sincero de nuestro primer avistamiento no nos apetecía. Tras la inspección más cerca es mucho mejor. No dejes que el aspecto exterior te desanime.

Hemos sido leales clientes del restaurante woodham durante algún tiempo. Regularmente comer en el restaurante. El personal es encantador. Una camarera en particular es tan amable y servicial. La comida es preparada a la orden y se sirve siempre fresca y caliente.

Service has always been good for us, food always plentiful. Children enjoy the kids meals, cheaper than your average Chinese or Indian!!!

If after shopping in South Woodham Ferrers you fancy some good fish & chips then make your way to Fish n Chickn where you can order food to take home or sit in their restaurant & enjoy a meal. Both their fish & chips are freshly cooked to your requirements & on sampling them you will find them to be very tasty indeed. As well as fish they can provide you with various pies & other tasty items as well as hot & cold drinks, all at a very reasonable price.

Haven't been for a good few weeks and it was the worst experience we've ever had here, the chips were as if scrapped from the bottom of the pan, tasteless & in pieces that appeared scrapped by the spatula while serving them up, cod coujons in breadcrumbs that were well over cooked, broke into pieces when trying to cut them up, prawn cocktail served on some lettuce no other salad, I had to ask for the missing bread that comes with it, 2 slices plonked on the table with 3 of them little butters in a wrap fresh from the fridge/freezer making it a nightmare to spread, couple of beers and a coffee made this a 29quid disaster, yes I complained and got the chips free!! Won't be rushing back, disappointed.

My wife and I went for an early meal in the diner on a Tuesday evening and were very happy with the service we received and with the quality of the fish and chips we ordered.Excellent value for money.Will most certainly return.

When going into your establishment at around 9pm on a Friday night. I was waiting around for about 5 minutes whilst one guy was serving and another was cleaning. He called to a girl called Ali to come and serve us to which the response was a roll of the eyes at me and proceeded to say "what do you want!" When I asked if there was chicken nuggets available, she turned to look and then said "how many do you want?" Not once did I feel welcome in your shop, her attitude is disgusting! I work in retail myself and would be pretty sure that I wouldn't have a job for very long if I spoke to customers like that! After working for 9 hours I didn't fancy cooking, but went home to cook after I told her to cut the attitude and I walked out of the shop! I will not returning whilst she is there, and hope she gets a good talking to about it, as it was witnessed by 2 other members of staff and 3 customers!

Great traditional fish and chips to take away, with many extra options to change your normal order. Also has a great diner for eating in which makes fish and chips even more of a nice occasion.

We fancied a change for lunch, & as it was bitterly cold outside we decided to have some lovely fish & chips, so went to the Fish'n 'Chick'n restaurant in the centre of town. Their food is the best, the fish is very fresh & covered in a crispy golden batter & the chips are great too & all for a very reasonable price.

We went in to get a take away late on Sunday. There was a guy sorting out food behind the counter and he called for the person to come and serve us. Three times he called, then had to go out the back for her to come through. To top it all off, she then swore in front of us, then proceeded to give us the wrong food. Having worked in take always before, I was disgusted by her attitude. It may only be a weekend job to her, but no one should have vulgar language thrown around in front of them. The food was good (although wasted because she charged us for another portion of chips we didn't want), but if I go back again I refuse to be served by her.

Food is good and tastes fresh but the service was slow which was disappointing as it was mid week and there were only 2 other tables occupied. The restaurant needs some TLC and updating but good for a quick bite to eat

Living in South Woodham this Chippy is convenient to use. Cod and chips can't be faulted and I found the large cod to be a good size. They have a wide range of choice and cook to order on many items. A bit on the expensive side but convenient.

Called into this Fish 'n' Chick'n.We had Cod and Chips and Chicken and chips. The Cod was very nice as was the chicken. I would like more chunky chips than the smaller chips. Staff very friendly and service was very quick. Will be back :-).

Always good fresh fish and a chance to have a bottle of local beer! Clean and tidy restaurant. Good value

The amazing thing about the food is its fresh and the batter so light as hardly evident. The chips as well as the fish carry no residue flavour from the oil, everything is the cleanest flavour ever.

Having seen all the promotions for weeks about the kids eating for £1 on Good Friday we got here fairly early to beat the rush with the family. It was quite busy already in the restaurant but certainly wasn't capacity full. We were warned when seated there would be a wait before the waitress came back, about 10 minutes...so we waited....and waited....and waited...what annoyed us most was that we weren't given regular updates like...sorry really busy will be back in 5 minutes or even any eye contact made. The two women's on duty deliberately avoided eye contact...then made a point of seating a serving another table of 4 before us...they were nearer the takeaway door perhaps more visible whilst we were in the main restaurant but not invisible! Then a girl clearing tables smiled as she took our kids empty cups away...and I asked if she could take our order...she said she would and came back and apologised for the wait! This girl AMY usually worked in the takeaway section and had been called in to help...but she had a MUCH nicer manner, and better CUSTOMER SERVICE skills than either of the two miserable women usually in the restaurant. When I also read the small print about the vouchers for the kids deal I nearly left there and then but Amy sorted that out and apologised again for the wait. If this place has any sense they will RETRAIN the two regular staff and promote AMY!! The food when it came was lovely...but our enjoyment after an hours wait really tainted my enjoyment of the meal....I won't rush back to sit in....

eat here quite often, dining in food is better than the take aways, plenty of seating, starters, mains, tea, coffee, soft drinks, beers, ciders, during the week they tend to have 1 member of staff serving so service can be a bit slow,

I visited on Sunday at approximately 2.00pm having just moved to the area, I was in the middle of DIY so wanted a quick lunch. When we walked in it was empty and no/one was to be seen, after saying 'hello?' a few times a member of staff came out. He took our order, we paid and he made it up quickly. I tried a chip and they were only luke warm. I told the person who served us and he said 'oh' and checked the unit and said 'the element isn't on underneath so they aren't being kept warm, sorry.' Given that he checked and saw for himself that they weren't very hot, I would have expected an offer of some fresh, hot chips but nothing more was said. When I then turned the fish out of the way to put salt and vinegar on I noticed the underside of the fish batter looked a bit soggy. If I wasn't in a rush I would have asked for a freshly cooked meal. When I went to actually eat the meal properly outside, as it was a cold day and the chips weren't hot to start with they went completely cold before I was even half way through, and the fish was actually really soggy batter on the bottom, not just a little bit like I first thought.Overall I was really disappointed, I would say don't go here when it's a quiet time, go at a busy time when the food is being freshly cooked.

My wife and I use the restaurant a couple of times a month. We normally have the seniors meal. This comprises of fish and chips, two slices of bread and butter and a cup of tea all for under £7. The fish is small and is served on small plates but it is more than adequate. Both fish and chips are always freshly cooked and the fish is beautifully white and fresh.At busy times, service can be a little slow depending on how many staff are on.The restaurant offers a loyalty scheme which gives stickers for every main meal. These are put into a small folded card. Once full and there are 10 spots to fill, one main meal is given free. For regulars this makes eating there even better value.

The personnel in Fish 'n' Chick'n are very friendly in deed & always have time for a chat while you are waiting for your fish to be cooked.The fish itself is always very fresh & is beautifully cooked in a golden batter & the chipsare very good too, all of which you can purchase for a very reasonable price. You can either eat in their restaurant or use their takeaway service.

Was in town doing a bit of shopping and realised we didn't have much time before dinner time so stopped in here had a lovely sausage and Batter with chips and curry sauce while other half had the chicken burger with chips and abused my pot of curry sauce kids had kids boxes with a drink all cooked well and very filling would return if in area staff were very polite and shop was also very clean.

We went shopping in South Woodham Ferrers & smelt the aroma of fish & chips on the air & followed our noses until we came upon Fish'n'Chick'n, so decided to go in & indulge ourselves. They provide a takeaway service as well as a restaurant service, so you can please yourself & choose what you want to do. The staff are very friendly, the fish is lovely & fresh in a crisp golden batter, & the chips are well cooked too, all this at a very reasonable price, who could ask for more.

Eating in or taking out, you won't be disappointed with the food! We occasionally visit for our weekly fix of Haddock or Cod and chips but usually we pick up our takeaway on the way home from work on a Friday night. Portions are pretty generous and prices are very competitive. Staff are always friendly too!

I eat here regularly, fish is generally cooked well. I recommend going for the Haddock in breadcrumbs, rare to get this option and its well worth a try, now my favourite.Good value for money both sitting in and take out.

For me these weren't the best fish & chips I've ever had, don't get me wrong they were ok and a reasonable portion. I really don't like fish served with the skin on, but that's my preference, if it was served in my local chippy like that I don't think locals would go back.The waitress was lovely, the the decor was good and everywhere looked clean. Got to be worth a visit !

You always seem to forget to review those places close to home, so this is my local chippie and it's great - especially the curry sauce!

So, an evening meal was needed, and Fish and Chips was fancied. So Fish n' Chicken was selected. The service was great, our order quickly taken. Drinks and food was delivered to our table in good time. The fish was well cooked and the chips were fantastic. No more need be said. It is a great little restaurant

Meals are good and on the whole reasonably priced. The menu is what you would expect from a fish and chip shop but there are a few surprise and delight items.Service is always good and attentive.

Great Service, and good value. Sizeable portions and great quality. Queues are generally lengthy but reflects the regular client base. Worth a visit.

This fish restaurant is well worth a visit if you like fresh fish which is well cooked & very tasty ! They also sell a choice of pies to everyone's particular taste & of course chicken & other tasty morsels as well as cans of soft drinks etc. As well as traditional fish & chips in the paper, you can, if you prefer to sit down at a table in their restaurant & receive waitress service & enjoy your food & drink in this comfortable area. This is the place for good food at a reasonable price.

Two portions of chips cost over £5 and they are just average! Everything else on the menu looked really expensive too.

Hard to get good fish & chips nowadays and this is OK but the portions were not generous and I wont bother to go back . Ive had better and a little cheaper .

Often get fish and chips there, good but would like my fish not so well cooked, Grandchildren love the sausages.Very good service.

Excellent range of food.Good value.Try the Greek salad - great add on side dish.The chips are best in area (and if you try the other Fish 'n' Chick'n shops you'll find consistency).Fish is tasty and priced well.Look at the selection of side dishes and you'll realize it's more than a fish shop.

This place has a good take away and a very good sit down area, it was well laid out with good seating and lots of room, it was very clean and tidy and the Staff we met was friendly and helpful the food was on the table in good time, and there was a good menu at more then fair price's
