wanted to try this establishment out, so 3 of us ventured out for lunch and had the 2 meal deal for £12-00 scampi for me and fish and chips for the others and to follow crumble pear and berry with lots of custard. So that is why I gave it 4 stars

First class We called in lunchtime a very hot day . We had a beautiful crab salad with new potatoes. The crab was from Aldeburgh and was really sweet and delicious, potatoes were cooked to perfection. Tina who owns the Butchers Arms prides her self on using local produce . The staff were very pleasant and followed all the correct safety guidelines. Felt very safe . We ate outside but there was plenty of room around the tables inside . We will be back

We were staying locally and found this pub late afternoon on a Sunday. Nice friendly atmosphere and staff but unfortunately the meal was not at all as we would have expected. Roast beef that we could hardly cut. Vegetables that were overcooked and yorkshire puddings that were burnt.

2 couples stayed for 2 nights. Clean accommodation, altho' the breakfast is only available in room, but no problem. Landlady very welcoming. Restaurant food very good & not too expensive. Pub's better from inside than it looks from the outside. Address should be more clearly marked as Knodishall Common near Thorpeness.

From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome, Tina had made a real effort to do an amazing table with crackers and chocolate lollies for all the children, it looked wonderful, jugs of juices were provided and refilled when needed, Tina catered for all the children needs even by providing sausages for the children who did not eat turkey and there was so much food. The food tasted so lovely and was very well presented. The children then had a visit from Father Xmas where Tina joined in. I want to thank Tina and the staff so much the children had a lovely time and asked when we can go again. thank you so much

The service was excellent nothing was to much trouble for the landlady who was doing the waitressing very polite and helpful. Stayed for one night and overall accommodation was okay for the one night, room for improvement in some area's but at the end of the day you get what you pay for and generally it was clean. We opted for breakfast in the room which was more than adequate, which included fresh milk, yogurt and orange juice plus cereals and other items . Had evening meal in the pub which was very good. We had our dog with us and he was made very welcome as they are very dog friendly. Would consider staying again if I was in the area.

Myself and 2 friends along with our 3 babies (all under 1) booked for lunch, we were told as we had children we would be put in the conservatory (obviously wanted us out the way), which on a boiling hot day was like a green house....asked for 3 highchairs 2 of which werent even the height of the table and they were completely disgusting as were the tables, we used wipes to clean everything ourselves and they were black......food was extremely average and the man behind the bar was the most miserable man I have ever seen, he was very rude when we asked if the highchairs were cleaned. We left very unhappy and I honestly wouldnt return if you paid me.

Me and my partner popped in for a meal and sat in the bar we were greeted by a grumpy barman who seemed like he did not want us there. He served us our drinks and told us sit where u like. I would say very rude and need some training in customer service. Our meals were really lovely and I could not fault them at all. I was a bit upset when we were eating our meal the barman thought it was ok to keep going out smoking outside the bar by the gentleman toilet leaving the door open so we could smell the smoke. I would recommend the food but sorry not the service and if his attitude carries on people will avoid the place

I recently visited this pub for a family meal. The staff were friendly throught our meal but never asked us if we wanted drinks. The pub itself was very cosy with the log fire on and was nice and clean. There was four of my family members (including myself) who ordered steak, one order was for well done steak, 2 were for medium and one ordered medium-rare with a peppercorn sauce as a side. There was plenty of food on the plate as it came served with chips, onion rings, a mushroom and a tomatoe. When the steaks came they were all near enough well done! Mine had a little colour to it but it looked more well done than medium, as for the medium-rare there was no colour to be seen which was a shame. The peppercorn sauce was watery and had no flavour which was a dissapointment!! One a postive side the staff had no problem with us bringing a cake for the birthday boy. All in all the pub itself was lovely but the food was a big dissapointment and not worthy the money.

We kept hearing how great the butchers arms was so we decided to visit today for lunch. Bar lady was friendly, waitress acted as she ought to make an effort to be friendly. Food was quite quickly served I had omelette with chips, husband ham, egg and chips. Omelette was lovely althought it came with 3 small new potatoes ( not sure where they came from as I thought new potatoes were out) and a bowl of chips. Obviously didn't listen properly. Ham was from a pack not a gammon joint boiled on site as we expected. Chips were actually very nice but the mayonnaise was a cheap in a sachet version. My husbands drink was nice but I asked for diet coke and was given Pepsi with no explanation of " sorry we don't do coke but we have Pepsi " dessert we both had the same sticky toffee pudding husbands was ok mine had a crunchy sponge which I did not think was usual, asked husband to try it and said his was not like that, he offered to swap but I wouldn't. Told waitress when she arrived her words were "oh was it I'll tell chef" and proceeded to cut at it whilst walking away. Went to pay, was offered no refund or apology. We certainly won't be going again. I advice you to spend your money else where xx

Well me and the wife do not really eat locally, but have recently decided that we should make an effort to do so, and you never know, we may even stumble across a little gold mine. Unfortunately this place was not it. Starters, I had the white bait, it was cooked ok, however it was tasteless. For main, I had the fish and chips and the wife and the salmon cake. My fish was ok, but certainly not worth nearly £10. And the wife's salmon cake was served cold. When we questioned the waitress apologised and took it back to the kitchen where the chief put it in the microwave as when it was re - served it was soggy. He chips contained pieces of my white bait from earlier, so the frier clearly isn't kept clean. All in all £45 for not a very nice meal. We will not be visiting again.

I am not really sure what say about this place. Having read reviews I was certainly expecting more. I chose the vegetarian vegetable burger? Pattie? Drizzled with balsamic dressing and salad. It turned out to be two monster size potatoe cakes covered in breadcrumbs and fried. The only sign of veg. Was a tiny piece of tomatoe and an equally tiny piece of courgette. Two big tasteless lumps of food. There was a sign on the entrance door advertising a vacancy for a chef so maybe someone was just doing their best in the kitchen in the absence of an expert. Other guests were seemingly happily tucking into their food so, maybe I was unlucky. My sister had as similar opinion of her food too and did not want to return in spite of the pub being only two minutes walk from our accommodation . I really would not recommend eating at the Butchers Arms to my friends.

From the moment we entered we were made to feel welcome, the bar and restaurant staff were friendly and welcoming, unfortunately thats where it ended, the food, although very well presented was the saltiest meal I have ever tasted, I opted for the liver and bacon, we finally worked out, after talking to the people on the adjoining table that the mash and gravy were to blame, to try and get the taste of salt out of my mouth I decided to go for a dessert, another wrong move, I ordered an apple and berry crumble, it was absolutely disgusting,I refused to pay for it, which the manager was happy to accept, overall a lovely pub, friendly staff, ok service, in dire need of a chef with some taste buds

The pub is in Knodishall 3 miles from Aldeburgh. The menu is small because everything is fresh, locally sourced and doesn't get better than this! The new owners took over a year ago. They created a traditional local pub. We had dinner there twice. The first time the restaurant was full on a Tues night. They still gave impeccable service and a wonderful meal. The 2nd visit they were not full our dinner was just as good. We didn't find a better pub or restaurant in the area.

As an ex-pat I was really looking forward to a traditional Sunday roast. The Butcher's Arms was recommended so off we went. Sounded promising as we selected from the menu however it didn't turn out to be so great.I am not sure how they managed to give us Yorkshire puddings that were both burnt and soggy. We pointed out that they were burnt and were given new ones, they were marginally less burnt but still soggy. The gravy was thin and sparse, the beef was "okay". The chicken was slightly better. The veg was the best part, except the potatoes that had rock hard "shells" but not in a crispy yummy kind of way. Fortunately dessert was better, possibly because it was outsourced. Very disappointed family. :(

Tried to arrange our engagement party here and is the worst communication and service from the event organiser I have ever received. Constantly ignored even when it got to the point of going into the sea you to speak to the lady who organises. Had to keep chasing for responses and in the end was just ignored and never got back to. Is a real shame as we really liked the cafe there but will not be returning after the way we were treated.
