We decided it was about time we sampled the Sunday Carvery and a recent birthday seemed as good an excuse as any. We booked a table and were glad we did as it was lovely and busy - not too busy that we had to wait, but busy enough to get a good atmosphere in the spacious function room. There was a choice of four meats and we sampled them all between the four of us in our group - they were all cooked to perfection. There was a lovely selection of vegetables which were being topped up regularly during service, and everything we had was hot and tasty. We were glad, however, that we had left enough room for dessert - the list of choices was mind blowing and the ones that we (eventually) picked were delicious. The staff were friendly - especially the chef, and we were made to feel welcome, and will definitely return soon.

They don’t seem to mention that they have a Thai chef who creates both excellent (if slightly limited) British food, but also excellent Thai food, adjusted to your personal taste! The desert menu is “limited” to a dozen cakes, cheese cakes and pies that are absolutely amazing! (For those who can’t decide which to choose, they very helpfully offer a “cake away” service at a reduced price!). The staff are very friendly and very helpful, there is plenty of parking, and you can choose between a modern, light airy eating area, and a more traditional pub setting.

Royal hotel was recommended to us by a couple of people so we booked it got up there early had a nice few drinks before dinner staff are very friendly food was lovely haddock and chips with minted mushy peas was delicious very reasonably priced. Was a bit concerned when we first arrived as restaurant was empty but it soon filled up as the evening went on the place is very clean on attending the public gents there was toilet tissue over the floor as you do get some disgusting people but when I returned some 40 minutes later it was tidied up so proof they do keep an I on it. If returning to the area I would definitely eat here again or even stay here seems a nice hotel.

This is the first time to the Royal hotel restaurant. Very disappointed with there food. Had the royal big breakfast, the was so bad you couldn't even cut the sausages. Well over cooked. The presentation was very plain and basic. A local cafe I go to is much better than the hotel food. First and last time for this restaurant. Unless I get a paid job to do a mystery shop review 😆

Food, staff and accommodation first class. Staff are just brilliant, Phil, Lucy, Nat, Alisha and Will, plus lots of others. Nothing is too much trouble, breakfast is lovely and all the food is really good. If you stay try the Thai menu, authentic and so yummy. We had our anniversary there and the left a lovely message in the room with chocolate and decorated our event table. Great location and one of the cleanest hotels, staff really take a pride in their hotel and service. We will be back. Ali & Brian xxx

Came here 2 years ago a couple of times whilst on holiday. Had an excellent meal and dining experience in the main dining room. Returned this year with friends and what a disappointment. Main dining room not in use. We were seated in the lower restaurant. The food was great, no complaints there. The issue we have is that we came to a restaurant not a sports bar! The staff put on the football at the request of some rowdy, drunk guests. On complaining they offered to move us mid meal which was only about 5 meters away from the issue. We don't appreciate the staff giving us dirty looks and talking about us amongst themselves and making us feel uncomfortable. If we had realised it was going to be more like a pub grub night out we would not have returned here. Overall poor management, poor service and standards have dropped. Will not return and will no longer recommend.

The meat was not carved it was in chunks , the potatoes a nice size but not cooked through the middle , the broccoli and peas also could have been cooked longer . Large portions so no one goes hungry , we have had a meal here before and it was alot better than this time . Probably will not have another .

We booked a Sunday carvery, as we were staying in our chalet nearby. We heard really good things about the carvery. so popped into the bar the day before and had a drink, before booking. The staff were very welcoming and overall super friendly. The carvery was lovely. There were four choices of meat, of which you could have all (Of course I did) The sides were plentiful and there was so much choice. I was extremely impressed. We had a nice, big plate of food, each for £14:95, accompanied by drinks, paid for separately. Excellent value for money. I’m not sure about these negative reviews to be honest, I couldn’t find any faults. I thought the food and service was of great standard.

We were staying locally for a short break and the Mrs remembered coming here about 25 years ago so we thought we would try the carvery as a nostalgic return. Everything was pretty much as she remembered, sadly almost exactly as she remembered ! The staff were pleasant but the hotel itself was so dated. We had our dog with us and stayed in the 'restaurant ' area. Think more cheap cafe than hotel restaurant. The carvery was actually in the 70's style function room. I tried a couple of meats that clearly needed re-hydrating with gravy. The roast potatoes were way under cooked and the vegetables had seen better times. The stuffing was probably just a packet of Paxo with hot water added, not even cooked. We tried the soggy and chewy batter pancakes which I thought were maybe a local delicacy, but no, they were in fact the Yorkshire puddings! On the plus side, the mash was ok and the pieces of crackling quite pleasant. It was fairly cheap and the Mrs, who is a veggie, got a pound off for not having meat.In summary, it was really poor. Not something we would recommend or return to. There are better around including doing a roast at home. Sadly, a disappointing return to a childhood memory.

We were meant to go to a different restaurant for dinner but as that one was fully booked we ended up here. The restaurant and pub area looks uninviting but we thought we give the food a chance. Wrong decision. I have never eaten anything worse in my life. My Haloumi Burger was exactly what it says: Haloumi in a piece of bread. No sauce, no salad, no taste. My husband had gnocchi soaked in an undefinable sauce and god knows why the “chef” thought it was a good idea to sprinkle some balsamic vinegar on top. Worst of all were the fish fingers for our daughter though. Disgusting and not edible and a shame that this food gets offered for children. The service was alright but could have been quicker and it all seemed very improvised.

We had read many of the previous reviews before deciding to visit this restaurant. The general opinion of previous reviewers ranges wildly from one extreme to the other. We therefore paid it a visit on a Thursday evening during February with an open mind.It was clear from the menu and the prices being charged that this was not going to be a fine dining experience. We chose to sit in the bar area rather than be the only people in the restaurant. The atmosphere was very much "village pub", and greatly enhanced by the friendly staff. There is a range of local ales, which is always a good sign. The choice on the menu was extensive enough for us. I went for a curry, knowing full well that it would not be Indian Reastaurant standard. This should come as no surprise given that this is not a specialist establishment and would not have the required fresh spices in stock. Even so, it was well prepared and flavoursome. My partner had a stuffed chicken with veg in a very buttery sauce. She felt there was a little too much butter but enjoyed it all the same.Value-wise, it was ok. We had two reasonable meals in a warm and friendly environment, which is what we set out for. It was not remarkable but neither was is as bad as some reviewers would have us believe. Importantly, we preferred The Ship, which is the other eatery in the village and which we went to the previous evening. It offered just that little bit more. Just personal choice.

We went too a fundraising event held here on saturday the 16th and the evening was good fun but the food was not good. For the amount of people there i was at the back of the que and when we got to the table the food was almost gone. What was left was cheap sausage rolls pork pies cut into quaters and a couple of sandwiches. We were told it was a hot/cold buffet. There was no salads no pasta there was not even deserts. When we spoke to the ladies that put this do on they told me that the food was done by the royal. If it was not a charity night i would have asked for my money back. I would think twice about doing anything at this hotel.

We used the Royal as the venue for refreshments after a funeral and they were help full and sensitive helping with organisation of the do. Kenny was really helpful and we decided to go with a buffet salad and roast meats as many of the family had to travel and who wants to cook after a funeral anyway? Having a handful of people with special dietary needs was no problem at all, and he catered for vegan, vegetarian, Dairy free and gluten free - which was wonderful. There was a good variety of salads with hot potatos & bread (including gluten free) as well as several vegan friendly options. The price we thought was not too much more than a finger buffet and was much more suitable to our needs. Another good thing was that we were given a phone number we could ring if the number of people at the funeral had been more than planned and they would have done something quickly to accomodate them. Overall a good experience.

Once again a delicious car very with a choice of 4 meats which are very generous servings. We have been going there for many years and the car very has always been great. The only criticism I would find is the lighting is a bit bright and the mustard table cloths do nothing for the decor but the food makes up for all that.

I suggested to a friend that we pop in here for a bite at lunch. I'd visited the coffee shop previously, but hadn't eaten there. The welcome was friendly, and the service prompt although they weren't particularly busy. He had chilli con carne and I had the cottage pie, with a soft drink and a latte. I thought his chilli looked a bit meagre, but my choice filled the plate. I enjoyed it, and finished it even though it was somewhat more than I wanted for lunch. On a different day I could have spent a couple of happy hours in the bar, sampling the selection of beers.Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Had Sunday lunch here over the bank hols with my family. Its a carvery style service with 3 /4 meats on offer and an array of fresh veg. It was lovely and hot and well cooked and we all enjoyed immensely. The price was right, the service good and the place fab. Will visit again without a doubt.

First impressions of this place are good! Parking is easy, and the entrance hall is rather grand and welcoming. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, and the staff are helpful, pleasant and engaging. The 'pub' part is traditional and the bar well stocked. The beer is well kept and my wife said the wines were too.I went with my family for a meal together, whilst visiting my wife's 93 year old grandmother. We were given a spacious table in the restaurant, and had high expectations! The food, sadly, was very disappointing indeed. Had we gone to a village pub, we would have been satisfied with the vast portions slumped on the plates, stacked high with chips to fill them out. The rather overdone steak swimming in sauce exhibited a patent lack of attention to detail, which we did not want. We can cook better than this ourselves at home. To round it off, the desserts (whilst cheaper than the going rate for pub food at £3.95) were clearly frozen, with the unmistakable scent of cardboard. We had come to a hotel expecting something a bit special, tastefully presented and definitely better than a cook-at-home supermarket ready meal... and we were willing to pay for it. In the end, this was a very expensive pub meal offering poor value for money. I'm afraid we will not return.

We have eaten here many times and we have always found the food delicious. The food is always good quality and value for money. The staff are friendly and welcoming. From 9 o'clock there was live entertainment which was enjoyable and made us stay for another drink after our meal. We all had a good time, we will definitely return.

We visit Mundesley for 3 weeks every year and spend a lot of our time in this amazing place. The carvery is out of this world and the family that own the Royal are friendly welcoming and always interacting with our children (9,11 and 13 years old).Selection in the Carvery is vast and portions large, great array of scrummy desserts and a lovely bright coffee bar at the back.We return here every year not just for the good food but for the delightful staff who make every visit a pleasure for our family of five.

After having this place recommended we thought we should give it a try. Oh how I wish we hadn't. The greeting was non existent, the food when it arrived looked pretty awful, burnt on one side and underdone on the other. One meal in a sauce looked extremely unappetising, the service was pretty poor with quite an attitude!Certainly wouldn't recommend this place, far better going to the ship up the road, it was more friendly and far far better food.

I stopped here for dinner with my dog on a Wednesday night, especially for their carvery. It did not disappoint! They allowed him to sit inside at the table with me, and the staff were excellent - friendly and attentive. The carvery was one of the best I have ever had! There was a good range of food, I was allowed two different meats, and the beef was amazing! It was so tender and melted in the mouth! I didn't expect such good food from a carvery to be honest! The pub was busy and everyone seemed to be happy and having a good time. The prices were unbeatable, and it may not be particularly fancy, but it was good food at excellent prices, with great customer service!

The food at the Royal is really good. Great choice and reasonably priced. It is certainly more than pub grub with a wide menu and a real willingness to please if a dish contained something you can't eat. For example my partner can't eat certain foods so a cheese sauce was produced instead which shows the flexibility here. Andrew - the manager and I think owner kept saying as long as we were happy then that was the main thing. There's plenty of room to eat whether you want to use the bar or the dining areas. There's no pressure to move from the bar area. There seems to be little choice of venues in Mundesley with the Ship Inn and the Manor hotel being the others but we could certainly recommend the Royal for dinner. Empty plates all round!!

I have had a drink here a couple of times as well as a buffet for My 40th Birthday. We decided to have a family meal last night. My buffet last year was amazing and they really didn't scrimp on the food, from thick door stop sandwichs with thick carved ham, to an amazing chilli and rice. Our meal last night was lovely, pork chops on sage and onion mash and bangers and mash, with bread and dippng oil to start and hummous. The food was well cooked and tasty, the flavours complemented.Service was very very good, not to attentive, but just enough with a pleasant disposition. The total bill for 3 starters, 4 mains (3 adults and 1 child) and 2 rounds of drinks came to under £60. The owners have done a fantastic job in changing and pulling up the hotel and revamping it, It is totaly different to years gone by and I would definitely recommend people to eat here as well as to consider them for a function as you wont be disapointed.

Loved our evening meal: hot, fresh and huge portions of yummy food. Felt very sorry for the young waitress working during the evening as she just couldn't seem to please the managers despite working hard. Breakfast was just as yummy and the waitress was amazing and she was the only person serving. We weren't happy with the noise coming from within and from outside the hotel room. Staff seemed to use the step underneath our window to chat and to smoke - lovely on a hot summer's evening when the window is open. Guests also seem to use the same spot and we asked them on several occasions to be quiet. Also couldn't really work out what was happening with the renovations and feel that some character has been lost.

Have popped in occasionally and had the most delicious pie and gravy. Was in the area Saturday and thought a lovely pie and gravy will go down a treat on such a cold day. Saturday luch time, no pies on the menu, just a very basic baguette, omlette, baked potato menu, really disappointed. Should have guessed, very sparse of dinners. Ordered the egg baguette, to be told a minute later 'we can't get hold of any eggs'. So all the omlettes were unavailable too. I've just been to a farmers market down the road that's full of eggs and pies! Cheese baguette ok, very cheap colesaw on side( sorry being really picky now). It has changed hands and don't believe the menu online, we won't be going back.

Wow what a find. the best place to eat for miles around if you have dogs with you as it is very dog friendly. We went for Sunday lunch and sat out on the covered terrace next to the lovely garden. There was a choice of 4 roast meats and a vegetarian option. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. The cost was also very reasonable. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The whole place has a lovely atmosphere.

On a recent trip on the Norfolk Broads, we happened upon The Dog and had some lunch. Nice welcome and really good food! The Dog Menu was a particularly nice touch, bought some treats for the pooch, which she loved. The food was so good that on our last day, on the way back to the boatyard, we did a little detour and returned for another meal. Highly recommend, will definitely return! Thank you.
