Wow what a find. the best place to eat for miles around if you have dogs with you as it is very dog friendly. We went for Sunday lunch and sat out on the covered terrace next to the lovely garden. There was a choice of 4 roast meats and a vegetarian option. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. The cost was also very reasonable. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The whole place has a lovely atmosphere.

Lovely garden, dog friendly. Sadly, my first choice of a drink and a main course were unavailable. Not a great start. My husband was more lucky with his choices. My alternative main was nicely cooked, husband very happy with his. Would be a good idea to keep on top of what is available to avoid disappointing diners.

Attempted to dine here 2 nights in a row and on arrival the first evening was told by the manager (who was sitting drinking a glass of wine) they were unable to take any more tables due to shortage of staff. Turned away again the next night when I phoned to try to book, and was told they were fully booked. Was turned away earlier in the year too! Clearly they don't want the business!!

We had a lovely meal here with our two dogs and sat outside in the beer garden under a canopy of grape vines. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Unusually for us, we both ordered the same meals - Garlic prawns and steak and kidney pie. The prawns were large and wonderfully garlicky. The steak pie was home baked with lovely pastry and crammed with tender chunks of steak and kidney in rich gravy. We were too full for pudding!

Smashing home cooked Sunday lunch with ALL the trimmings. This is exactly what you want for a proper Sunday roast. I had the lamb, my sister had the beef. A plate fully of well cooked fresh vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy. No fried potatoes pretending to be roasties like most places do. The pub was very busy but there were lots of staff running around keeping everyone happy. Lovely garden. Parking isn’t plentiful so we parked on the road which was fine. This was my first visit but my family say it’s always good. Well done everyone, we were well fed, our little dogs were contented under the table and all the staff were friendly and efficient. I hope to visit again next time.

While staying in the area, my husband and I decided to try this local pub. We went for an evening drink towards the end of our holiday and we were very impressed by the continuation of 'at seat service' and other covid safety procedures that were in place. The staff were very helpful and friendly. While we were there, we noticed a poster which stated they would happily try and cater for any dietary requirements. Currently having very challenging dietary requirements, we thought we would enquire to see if there would be anything suitable for me to eat with an aim to have a meal there the next day, which was the last day of our holiday. The staff member (we think her name was Rachel) was very helpful and gave me a menu to look at and advised us to pop into the pub at lunch time the following day to speak to the chef. Rachel did ask us if we wanted to book, but due to being uncertain if I was going to be able to eat anything, we felt it only right to speak to the chef first. We popped into the pub the following day and explained I had been advised to speak to the chef that lunch time regarding my dietary requirements. There seemed to be some confusion and flustering amongst the staff, but then another staff member (who we can only assume was the chef) appeared from behind the bar. There was no friendly "hello", just "when are you looking to book", which we felt quite abrupt. I was speechless as he did seem quite rude so my husband answered "tonight". The member of staff, again rather abruptly answered "we're fully booked". Due to the nature of this staff member's attitude, I feel unable to give an "Excellent" rating to the Greyhound. Such a shame as the staff working there the night before were so friendly and helpful. With that, we thanked the staff and left. Obviously a bit disappointed, as from the poster it looked like the menu could be easily adjusted to meet most dietary needs and despite being offered the chance to book the night before, we didn't get the impression that by the following lunchtime they would be fully booked for that evening. However, we managed to find another pub within the area which met my dietary requirements, so we had an enjoyable meal there instead. Despite the abruptness from the one member of staff at the Greyhound earlier in the day, we returned for a few drinks later that evening. It's a shame that one person's rudeness can let a place down, but thank you to all the other staff (particularly Rachel), who were so helpful, friendly and welcoming.

A party of 6 of us were staying locally, and as the Euros are currently on and England were playing, we thought we’d book a table in front of ‘the big screen’. We phoned ahead and they said a table of 6 in front of ‘the big screen’ would be no problem. As we took the short walk over to the pub we full of hope about the evening ahead, football in a nice local pub whilst on holiday, what more could you want? Turns out, quite a lot…On arrival we were taken to ‘the big screen’ which turned out to be the kind of TV you’d find in your grandparents house. Our table for 6 was found in the corner of the room, but as we sat down we were told by debi (the name Karen would have suited her better) that only 5 of us could sit at the table, and 1 of us would have to sit over by a man called Tony, goodness knows who he was. We were genuinely shocked! We said that we had booked a table for 6, not for 5? Debi’s reply? Because of COVID only 5 can sit at your table.Incredible.As we ordered drinks we could hear debi speaking to her next victims, telling some other people that they were blocking her walk way.It was almost as if Debi didn’t want any customers, if she doesn’t want customers her actions are certainly making that a reality. We genuinely felt sorry for the rest of the staff as they seemed decent, but very aware of Debi’s foibles. The staff were fine, and to be fair the drinks were good an fairy inexpensive, but Debi? Well, let’s just say she’s got a funny way about her.The important thing is England won 4:0, and maybe, just maybe it’s coming home. And if it does, then even debi might give in and break out a smile

Really lovely meal and strong COVID precautions. Like all the pubs I’ve been to recently the food menu appeared slightly reduced. Despite this it did have a comparatively large number of options for vegetarians and the menu marked other dietary options. Everybody is given their own paper menu and you are required to write your contact details in a corner in case contact tracing is needed. This is the first pub (of four) I’ve been to where these details are actually collected. Staff wear face masks (which I’ve also not seen in other pubs) and this did not detract from our enjoyment. Other usual measures are also in place but I won’t list them. They are easy to comply with and are not intrusive to the ‘dining experience’. There is spacious seating in the outside garden. Staff were friendly and I’d happily return.

Basil would be proud of the management at the greyhound Hickling. We had booked a table for 6:45 and were unfortunately delayed 15 minutes, I called ahead giving them notice that we would be delayed, to which they said no problem we will hold your table. When we arrived we where just 5 minutes late and waited in line 5 minutes to be served, the waiter took us to our table to find another family sat there, he disappeared to find out what had happened. A moment later the proprietor debi arrived and pointed at an old dirty plastic table and chairs over in the weedy corner of the garden and snapped “you’re late so you’re over there, I gave your table to this family” I was stunned but not wanting to cause a huge scene in front of my family and other people eating in the garden I sat down with my family quietly. The waitress brought us menus and asked to take our drinks orders, I expressed my disgust at the treatment a paying customer had just received, the waitress offered us apologies, but i get there feeling this was not an isolated incident, the proprietor, debi, came by the table and offered a half hearted apology, muttering about people not turning up, I called ahead and was just 10 mins late. I told her not to worry I would leave her a review. She later returned and offered us another table, failing to have the other table cleared and us moved, when the waitress brought out our starter we advised debi had offered us the other table and asked if she could arrange to have it cleared we then moved and finished our food. When the bill arrived they failed to show us an itemised bill which we then insisted on seeing, they had overcharged us by £11 on a £45 meal. Essentially charging us twice for our drinks. As for covid preparations they are not properly managing track and trace, asking you to write your details on the menu and then asking you to dispose of your own menus, the staff are all wearing suitable face coverings accept the proprietor who is wearing what can only be described as a old time card players visor, upside down over her mouth, it must be a joke there is no way that is approved as a covid secure face covering, it must be showering people with droplets. In summary avoid this establishment at all costs, appalling management, zero customer service and over charging, totally ruined my families evening out.

Located in the centre of Hickiling its the only pub in the village proper. We had a two night stay nearby at Dairy Barns and were thinking of trying two different venues for dinner. Following our first visit we returned to The Grehound Inn the next night.

Visited our local pub for an evening meal after a busy day as we were to tired to cook our own. We were greeted with the usual warm and friendly atmosphere with a lovely fire crackling away. Placed our order which arrived very quickly and what a stunner it was!I had the chefs special of braised lamb liver in a bacon gravy with mash and savoy cabbage topped with crispy onion. I would have to rank it in my top ten meals of all time. This dish needs to be moved to the main menu and not just be an occasional special! Perfectly cooked and everything in the right amounts, simply stunning dish.My wife had the king prawn carbonara from the main menu, which again was exceedingly good with just the right amounts of prawns, sauce and pasta.Well done Chef, this is food as it should be, keep up the good work!

A lively local pub with a warm welcome and food. There was a pub quiz going on which we could have taken part in. Our meal was nothing special but good pub food and good sized portions

Dined in the restaurant 2 nights whilst staying at Lawson Cottage B&B; 2 mins away. Very popular pub/restaurant so it's advisable to book if you wish to have dinner. Great selection and the food was delicious. Staff were calm and friendly, despite being rushed off their feet on our second visit. The pub is dog-friendly. Will definitely visit again on our next trip in November.

Ok we asked for an outside table and then changed our minds because it was very breezy but when we arrived there were only five places when we had booked for 6. The staff were clearly well put out and very rude and impatient with us. Then one of our party was brought a meal she had not ordered and did not want so she had to wait for the meal she had actually ordered to be cooked. The rest of us had almost finished by the time it came. The food was very good- shame about the attitude

Pub located in Hickling and we called in for a bar meal to be told there was a1 hour waiting so you know that this place is very popular saying that the time did not put us off as we sat outside in the gorgeous evening sunshine and had a drink or two . Didn't have to wait the full hour but nearly . Meal was delicious, plenty and hot which I think is a must . Pleanty of staff which were friendly and helpful. Overall I would give a big 10/10 or 5 *****

Don't bother unless you're local, over priced and very average. Not vegan/veggi friendly at all - hardly any choice

what a lovely Fish and Chip shop, front of house was a lovely friendly lady, Young lady at the till was obviously new and learning the tills, but what a lovely happy go lucky young lady she was. Explaining, she is new to the tills so please bare with her. Ordered our food, Traditional Cod and Chips, all nice and fresh and tasty, and nice size portions. Looking forward to going back to Well's later in the year for some more Fish and chips from here

Great staff, amazing views, nice range of beers. They continue to do a great job on the pier, we are so lucky to have it. It's a treasure that has been beautifully maintained.

Have popped in occasionally and had the most delicious pie and gravy. Was in the area Saturday and thought a lovely pie and gravy will go down a treat on such a cold day. Saturday luch time, no pies on the menu, just a very basic baguette, omlette, baked potato menu, really disappointed. Should have guessed, very sparse of dinners. Ordered the egg baguette, to be told a minute later 'we can't get hold of any eggs'. So all the omlettes were unavailable too. I've just been to a farmers market down the road that's full of eggs and pies! Cheese baguette ok, very cheap colesaw on side( sorry being really picky now). It has changed hands and don't believe the menu online, we won't be going back.

On a recent trip on the Norfolk Broads, we happened upon The Dog and had some lunch. Nice welcome and really good food! The Dog Menu was a particularly nice touch, bought some treats for the pooch, which she loved. The food was so good that on our last day, on the way back to the boatyard, we did a little detour and returned for another meal. Highly recommend, will definitely return! Thank you.
