The best restaurants serving British food in East Midlands

Came twice while staying near by. Once for breakfast for my birthday and once for lunch. The breakfast whilst nice enough was for what they called a belly buster rather underwhelming. 2 of each apart from the toast I’d say was a normal size belly buster rather underwhelming = more than you can manage! Still, it was nice enough even if it was on the warm side rather than hot! The lunch, that was nice we had the jacket potatoes, wife with time mine with chilli con carney. Arrived hot and tasty. They are dog friendly too but have to remain in either the conservatory or outside which is fair enough. Price reasonable if a little on the high side for the food on offer but we will certainly come back next time we are in the area, we always do visit here. Staff friendly too if sometimes a little slow at clearing and cleaning the tables sometimes but I guess if it’s busy or they short staffed it’s difficult to keep on top of.

Came in with my son and next-door neighbour I had the steak pie and she had chips and fried bread we have both been really sick straight after leaving the restaurant will not be coming again

Popped in before eating at an establishment near by and was made to feel like we was a nuisance and unwanted

Have visited several times now. Service consistently slow ,one staff member serving with no recognition of waiting time.Got fed up of waiting so left today.

I went in here for some late night fishies and the chippings and when I went inside there on the floor was the remains of someones blood from a wigston punch up in the chip shopIt was not a sight a woman should see who only went in the place because she was hungryI decided against ordering seeing the state of the place and decided to raid the cupboards at home instead for something to eat as you do as a plan bI do not think I will go in here again and will choose a cleaner chip shop instead and I definitely wouldn't go in here late at night on a Friday or saturday

Enjoyable meal as part of Murder Mystery event. Not the best meal I've ever had but great value. Breakfast was substantial and excellent

I eat here regularly with my daughter, when she has a day off work. The food is always lovely. Main meals offer vegan/ vegetarian/gluten free options, There is good choice of cakes and drinks. The home made soups are always really nice and the staff are really friendly and helpful. The menu isn't massive, but I wouldn't expect it to be in this setting and prices comparable to other cafes in the local / surrounding area .

I have been here over the last few weeks many times for breakfast and lunch, the full English breakfast is lovely and really good pice, today we went for lunch, Angie who cooked the food was lovely, so friendly with a big smile, the food she cooked was lovely as always, very quick service and the chips were amazing! Ella the waitress was so attentive, nothing was too much trouble, she was polite, helpful and checked on us to make sure we were enjoying the food… I have read some of the reviews on here and I do not understand why people have posted such bad comments, everywhere is clean, excellent food, excellent service, free parking, inside and outside seating, amazing views of the marina and the food is really good prices. Mi familia y yo tuvimos una oferta groupon aquí. Al llegar todo parecía bien, nos presentó los menús sólo para descubrir que no eran ofreciendo lo que había en la oferta groupon. El primer plato llega, que parecía fantástico darnos muchas esperanzas para el resto de nuestra comida. El campo principal tomó 40 minutos si no más en llegar, por que hacía frío. El papa puré parecía smash, y todos nuestros platos principales se veía como la comida que te dan en un 3,99 todo lo que pueda comer restaurante. El cerdo pedimos, que no estaba en el menú, pero el groupon ofrecen, era insípido. no devolverlo, ya que no queríamos esperar otra hora para nuestra comida. Cuando pedir bebidas principales ups, la camarera se le olvidó nosotros así que esperamos otra media hora. Una comida de 2 platos tardaron 2 horas, lo que es una vergüenza. sólo había 4 mesa por lo tanto no había excusa. Entiendo que tenían un comedor separado; así que ellos no quieren clientes groupon cerca pagadores personas completos. No vayas aquí. No malgastes tu dinero. La comida nos dejó 2 de nosotros enferma. Estos chefs necesita formación adecuada, por lo que el personal.

Bought 6 beef burgers of which the 2 i have had as chunks of bone in. The 1 piece of sirloin steak I had cost £8 and cooked medium rare left to rest for 10 minutes was like eating leather . Pork Pie that was recommended by many people was very disappointing when I cut into it the jelly just all ran out ,very disappointing

On arrival the pub was busy as you’d expect on a sunny Saturday! We had booked a table and were reminded about the car parking which we’d spotted signs for so that was helpful. When we were seated our drinks orders were taken. These then took 15 mins to come before we could order food. We ordered as soon as the drinks came and were told there was a 35-40 mins wait for food. Which you get as it’s a busy weekend. We ordered at approx 14.10. At 15.05 I asked the server how long our food might be as we had two very hungry 7 year olds with us. I was advised our order was next and would be 5 mins. I asked again and was told our food wouldn’t be long. We’d also got up and ordered our own drinks at the bar in this time as service was a bit hit and miss. We’d already ordered crisps for the kids as we’d been waiting so long. Our mains came at 15.30, after an hour and 20 min wait. When I complained about the length of time I was told it was because my children had starters and the time was from them and the time essentially gets “reset,” to which I did point out it was still an hour and 20 mins for our mains to come… The food was ok, but I’ll be honest we would maybe come back for a drink but not for food. Service wasn’t great and food was average at best. The kids Mac and cheese was tiny for my 7 year olds and I gave him most of my chips from my meal. The only saving grace was that I managed to use the 30% off mains code for this weekend. Such a lovely location for the pub but a shame it was all a bit lacking today!

We booked for a lunch to fuel ourselves before walking round the locks. The conservatory part felt a bit dated and decor was tacky, also our table was dirty. I was dripped on through the roof but was able to shuffle to the side to avoid this but there was a bit of water on floor. Staff very friendly and attentive as they could be with how busy it was. We waited a good 45/50 minutes for food so were very hungry when food did arrive. My husband had a burger, which he said was okay but nothing special. Lettuce in it was brown and it seemed odd to have raw red onion in it. Chips very good though. I had the homemade chilli in a Yorkshire pudding, it was okay but again nothing special, I felt overpriced at £13.95. Presentation on both meals was very basic. Drinks also seemed expensive. Overall a bit disappointed, wouldn’t return anytime soon.

We had 7 family members for a great lunch out. It was terrible food for 5 of us. I sent mine back. Staff not pleasant. Expensive horrid experience that ruined a lovely family outing. NEVER again
