Lovely pub, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Sat in the conservatory area, lighting very pretty and heaters available in Winter. Homemade Chicken and leek pie was very tasty and so reasonably priced, added veg with it. Meal with 2 drinks was only £16. Would recommend and will return.

Beautiful location by the canal with some nice walks nearby. We visit most weeks and have the Sunday carvery and a canalside stroll. Always a pleasant relaxing experience. The carvery is not expensive and is generally tasty and good value. Surprised to read the negative reviews about the staff and food because that has certainly not been our experience - we love it here and look forward to our weekly visits.

The place is very nice, and we did not expect ultimate food. The fish and chips were exactly how they should be. We had a nice table with a window view so all was excellent. Service was ok but a little bit more focus on the customer could have improved the experience.

Went on a lovely sunny Lunchtime for a bit of Alfresco Dining, but unfortunately the food was not in the same league as the weather. First impressions on walking into the property, seems to be looking very tired, dirty and smelling a little greasy. Before ordering I wish we had read previous reviews as my wife went and ordered the very criticised Roast of the Day Baguette which was Turkey. The Sour Dough Baguette was stale, turkey had no taste and was very dry. I ordered the Jumbo Hot Dog with additionally priced Caramelised Onions and a side portion of Chunky Chips. On arrival the onions were stone cold, so I mentioned this to the waitress who took it away. Two minutes later reappeared after the whole thing had obviously been pinged in the microwave as the bread roll was also very hot and as it cooled started to go hard. The sausage was burned as shown, and the overcooked and fatty tasting chips were on my plate whilst I thought as a side portion they would have been served in a separate dish so we could have shared them. Now on reflection I should have taken it all back and told them this was not acceptable for the quite overpriced bar snacks. However like the table next to us who also were not very complimentary with their cold Pizzas, we choose to just walk away without making a fuss with my Wife saying this was the worst meal out she could remember for a very long time and we dine out quite regularly.

Lovely spot, restaurant recommended by a local. We arrived 15 mins before they started serving, so plenty of time to read the menu. When waitress came to take the order, my husband chose their homemade pie but was told 'we didn't have any at lunch' and after checking with the kitchen, still didn't have any at 4 pm (pet hate of mine - tell diners what's not available when you give out menus) Three of us had the loaded mac n cheese but we all agreed it was creamy but not cheesy. Staff were readily available, one young lad was lovely but the female staff not so much. I asked for the bill as I was going to the ladies and the girl snapped at me. I'm afraid we would not return, bit of an add experience overall.

Beautiful setting with comfortable seating facing the canal basin. Disabled friendly.. Welcoming and helpful reception. Menu choice was extensive. Service was very good with servers passing by every 20 seconds! Fish and chip meal was excellent, hot and nice presented. "Home made" chicken and leek pie was a major disappointment. Presentation was good, food was not! Shame... Chicken was pulled, stringy and tasteless. Filling was underwhelming. Pie was close to impossible to cut open, needing excessive force, as though the pastry was incorrectly prepared. It was very thick, neither puff, nor shortcrust. This was mentioned to the server and reponse was a "sorry about that"

Moored close to the Foxton Locks Inn on a Friday evening and decided to have a meal. Despite it being busy we were able to get a table outside overlooking the basin. This has a great location and is a nice pub. The staff were excellent. We both had fish and chips, we didn’t have too long a wait and it was lovely. I had a pint of Beavertown Neck Oil and it was great. Would definitely come again as long as it’s not too full of gongoozlers.

Very limited menu! Over priced food, very basic and overcooked. Food arrived and had items missing that was listing in the menu description. Had a ploughman's platter for 2 - no butter for the bread, missing chutney, stale baguettes and not enough for two! My daughter had scampi and chips, the chips were so hard, they were more like pork scratching!!!! With enough mushy peas to bearly fill a tablespoon! And the burger was the most driest and uninspiring thing I've ever seen. Very disappointed. Beautiful location, nice staff, just wouldn't eat there again.

Mother’s Day Sunday Lunch We are regular customers for Sunday Lunch. It is convenient and quick. Never brilliant, but easy. Sadly, Mothers Day lunch was disappointing - Carvey with choice of 3 meats, very tender. The accompaniments, were very over cooked, carrots would suit being puréed, if they had been peeled, cauli cheese soggy and tasteless. The potatoes, are huge and not at all crispy. The setting is perfect, especially in the summer, but really guys, sort out your food!!!

Following a weekend away as a couple, we decided to visit Foxton Locks on our way home. It was a fairly chilly day so decided to enjoy Sunday lunch at the Inn too. Carvery was being served (although I think other options were available too). The staff were very friendly and despite not making a reservation, were able to fit us in. Table service offered for food and drink orders, with waiting staff very attentive. The carvery was very good offering a nice selection of meats, and the vegetables were hot but not over cooked. During the time we were eating I noticed that the vegetables were replenished twice, so fresh was always available. Value for money, only criticism would be that the restaurant was very hot, although it was cold outside and the carvery grill had been on for a few hours so this could explain this.

Carvery ok, the cauliflower/broccoli cheese was tasteless and the mash potato is definitely “smash” but the gravy was tasty so I smothered it in that so it all tasted nice in the end. Staff friendly enough, however when we tried to order the roast dinner sandwiches we were told they hadn’t got any. But they allowed us to order normal sandwiches plus carveries!? So I asked how come you have carveries and you have sandwiches but we can’t have a meat sandwich with roasties as advertised on your menu and the waitress just said good question but I’ve no idea that’s just what I’ve been told! Take it off your menu then

Bit of a mid lunch really. I had the fish and chips which was pretty nice. Nothing overly difficult there at all really. Put it in a fryer and wait. My Son had the chicken nuggets and chips with peas and the peas were awful. Others had similar orders and they said the same. Decent enough food but nothing special. The Jazz band was pretty awesome and made a cool atmopshere, however made ordering difficult and there was some mistakes with our order. It really screams of a chef that's not being challenged or held to account with their food. Not a big fan of dogs being allowed in the eating area, especially ones that are not being looked after properly.

There were about 25 of us for our annual Xmas meal. The veg came out first and 3 huge platters consisting of loads of carrots a little broccoli and cauliflower were placed in the centre of the table. The plates were cold. So by the time our main course arrived (also on stone cold plates) the veg were completely cold. We had to ask for them to be microwaved to heat them up. 2 small slices of turkey. Awful gravy I think it was called ‘cranberry jus.’ The potato’s were good. Someone paid £3 extra for rump steak which was tough. Everyone left most of the meal. The manager asked if everything was ok when he came to help clear the plates. He only had to look at the amount left to see that it wasn’t. Who puts food on stone cold plates!! The desserts were good. Although 2 very small slices of Xmas pud was a bit mean. For around £25 a head it was very very poor. The staff were apologetic and nice. We did get a 25% discount by was of an apology.

All of use left the undercooked Brussels Sprouts, too tough Roast potatoes looked nice but were not crisp and chewy, left behind! Waitress upon payment said thank you she will inform the chef as that is important. I replied I would be surprised if the chef does not know already what is being served. Was not offered a reduction of the price albeit the price is not expensive! I would only cater for customers that visit ad-hoc and will not return with this dis-appointing food. The staff were delightful and very efficient. The food was good, however it was like being in a dog’s home. There were four dogs in the conservatory area all of which were allowed to stray away from their tables. Their owners seemed oblivious to the fact that not everyone wants to be sniffed. I don’t understand why people have to bring their dogs with them and treat them like children, finger feeding them from their plates. it is perfectly acceptable to leave them at home or in a cool car for a couple of hours while their owners eat. When smoking was allowed in pubs there were designated areas. Now I think we need dog free zones!

Lovely place right by the locks with wonderful views. Parking is in a pay and display but well worth it. We were here for a family wake and the effort put in was just fantastic. Food was lovely and such wonderful staff. Thank you very...

We couldn’t ignore the rat in the room. Slightly freaked out by this TBH and the overall experience was pretty dreadful anyway. Hot chocolate is cheap and nasty powder with hot water. No cutlery or butter arrived with soup. No milk with tea. I know...

Ideally situated on the canal and 11 locks in this picturesque area, quite highly priced but reasonably good food for mass production meals with that slightly homemade feel, unfortunately, as the venue is fully aware, they have a huge wasp problem, outside dining is very...

Lovely location, nice friendly staff but the food really isn’t worth it. I would only recommend a drink. My family’s meals were all just about adequate, however, the ploughman’s was awful. Cheap cheese which was like eating wax, stale white baguette, a mini pork pie...

Great views over the canal from the glasshouse and garden area of this huge pub. Sadly the food isn’t as good. The nachos were tasty as were the chicken wings but over cooked. I had Caesar salad with again very overcooked tough chicken and there...

I lived in Leicester for nearly 4yrs back in the late 80s. This was one of my favourite places to eat. I loved the ploughman's lunch in particular with its big chunk of Stilton and a mature Red Leicester to die for, and a gorgeous...

Absolutely appalling service from young guy serving, who completely ignored me. Only one other customer who was waiting for ice and he turned his back on me to take app orders. I waited patiently for several minutes then had no choice but to leave and get a drink elsewhere. As I did this I heard a sarcastic goodbye from the bar area. I am a regular customer in the sugar Loaf and welcome the opportunity to speak with a senior manager and identify the barman as I think this behaviour should be highlighted as clearly customer service should be a skill required for the job he is employed to do.

Went in for Sunday lunch with my son, when my meal came out It was cold, I mean very cold. Absolutely diabolical. Certainly won't be going back there anytime soon.
