The best restaurants serving British food in East Midlands

Shocking service this Sunday. Our party arrived at 2.30. At 2.50, we'd still not even had our drinks order taken and hadn't even been acknowledged by any member of staff. Granted, the restaurant was busy, but this does not excuse not engaging with your customers, letting them know there may be a delay, offer an apology at least. The limited staff were clearly overwhelmed and unable to cope with the number of covers that the management had booked in. Can't feedback on the food as we all decided enough was enough and didn't wish to wait any longer to place our order and left. This was the only time one of the staff acknowledged us by saying goodbye! Unbelievable. We can, however, highly recommend The Chequers in Burbage. This was equally as busy as The Railway when the four of us arrived. However, we were warmly welcomed, seated, and drinks on the table in under 5 minutes, and our food orders were taken within 15 minutes of being seated. The food was amazing. I honestly think those running The Railway would benefit from visiting The Chequers to see for themselves how well a Sunday Lunch service can actually be delivered, even when very busy.

First time my friends and I have been to a bottomless at Craft, least to say we were disappointed. We arrived and notified the staff that we were here for bottomless, seated but was not attended to for half an hour and the drinks took a further 20 minutes. In the whole time we were there, we were served 3 drinks each. We came to an end of our bottomless early due to this and notified the staff, which were lovely and apologetic but not worth the price.

Dropped in for lunch. Very pleasant and enthusiastic new manager. Very good pub grub and reasonably priced. Nice surroundings.

Came across this place on a long journey and couldn’t have worked out better. Such a lovely pub and fabulous food. They were very short staffed but they all worked so hard and it in no way affected our experience. Can only imagine how incredible it would be with the full team. Thank you to the whole team for a great meal

I visited with family for Saturday lunch. One of our party is diabetic and the staff adjusted dishes to ensure she had a lovely time with no prior warning. Great service and food as always

Eaten here many times, always excellent and good value. I always compare anywhere I travel to the food here and few compare.

Stay away. Visited today 9th March waited 25 minutes in a queue to order, definitely not enough staff, tables not cleared and dirty definitely won’t be returning.

Wonderful pub with a very friendly atmosphere and staff were excellent Their Sunday roasts are to die for - well all their food was great and well presented with a classy feel

We were a pet free traveling couple who were very impressed with the cleanliness of the room and ensuite it was spotless given that they do allow pets to stay. Every request from parking early to gluten free breakfast (I’m coeliac) was accommodated faultless stay no negatives to report would stay again

Only got 2 as bought for me. Fish overcooked due to quality of raw product, thin for cod, chips full of bits, please season mushy peas and curry sauce as once back in car the customer can't, very bland. Disappointing over all. Thanks for owner response and just have a taste of the peas as my sister also thought they were bland, maybe a batch from processor which had Seasoning missing, we also use Tinned mushy peas on our establishment and can be sometimes a bit hit and miss also.

My family went to the Welby Arms for dinner yesterday evening. My husband is in a wheelchair and they were very accommodating, putting a ramp in place and helping him indoors. The food and service were both excellent, as always when we visit there. The landlords pie and the lambs liver in a Madeira gravy are highly recommended! We were so full after the main course, we couldn’t manage a dessert - maybe next time.

Had a wonderful stay at this amazing little gem of a hotel. The evening meal was sensational, packed with flavour and so fresh. The pub is charming and full history from the surrounding area, our room was spacious and very comfortable. Highly recommend a stay.

Can't comment on food as not tried it, but the drinks and entertainment are good

The food was exceptional. Everything about the experience was top drawer. Definitely will return. Highly recommend.
