We visited the carvery on a Saturday lunchtime visiting Lincoln. The visit was very enjoyable, we were seated quickly and received genuine and prompt service from arrival through to paying the bill even though is was busy. The carvery was excellent and very well stocked with a very good variety of meat, veg and sauces. Two of us were vegetarians and opted for the meat-free carvery which was more than enough! The Yorkshire puddings were especially good. The food and drinks were very reasonable and we will return. I thoroughly recommend the place.

We had booked a table for 6 and was placed in a small booth with hardly any room. My girlfriend is currently nearly 7 months pregnant and we felt like sardines with hardly room to move or breathe. I also felt completely disgusted to hear that another table had 8 mimutes of 45 minutes left to go. Just as we placed our forks down the waiter came to clear our plates and asked if we would like dessert. When we declined his response was okay i will get you the bill. I find this poor as we hadnt even finished our drinks! The food itself was tasty but the portions of meat were very small. The mash potatoes were specially tasty. The restaurant itself feels more like a canteen and you 'get what you are given' in terms of meat quantity.

Just eaten there today Sunday 7pm. Did not book but got a table anyway. We were warned that only 2 meats out of 4 were left but we soldiered on.Staff seemed fine. Plenty of choice with nicely cooked vegs but my partner would have had to pay extra for a sausage which I thought a bit mean considering only half of the carvery meats were available. My only moan apart from this was that the plates were not very warm. Consequently by the time one is halfway thru ones plateful the remainder is cold. Average all round I would say.

The service was average, but the food was not very good quality. The veg is very dry as it is under the heat lamps all day and the meat is also dry and flavourless. I had to drown my meal in gravy (which is the only thing that actually has taste). Although it is good value for money I would at least expect the food to be of better quality. I was also recommended a new drink which wasn't on the menu, by the server, which I said I wanted, to then be told 5 minutes later that this drink is not available and she didn't realise. I found this very unprofessional. Overall a bit of a disappointing visit, as id previously heard good things about Toby carvery but I wasn't impressed.

Thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Toby Carvery. Outside there was a thunderstorm going on and torrential rain but inside we felt warm and secure. The staff were excellent and so was the food, the beef had almost run out ( they had had a busy day with the Steam Punk festival!)and Georgia explained this to us but there was still plenty of other meat alternatives. Georgia welcomed us showed to our seats and explained the procedure etc. and checked on us regularly to see if we needed anything. Our waitress Lauren was superb through the whole meal experience.Only downer was the parking issue, we had paid £3 to park n the close by parking building only to find out from the signs on the walls when we enter the venue that " Parking for patrons was free...ask for details" apparently the parking people do not want to display this fact on their machines! Will definitely return, fancy trying the breakfast menu next!!!

We fancied a Toby carvery after a day in Lincoln so called in at 5pm to eat. The restaurant was fairly busy but we were quickly greeted by a lovely waitress who seemed to be the only one that was doing anything. Throughout the meal there were two other members of staff but they seemed to be glued to the till. The carvery was lovely the only issue was that the turkey had run out which at 5pm is a shame! The vegetables were lovely but the roast potatoes were bland. We arrived with vouchers for ice creams and these finished the meal off nicely. Throughout the meal our waitress was lovely and very attentive a credit to Toby Carvery. Overall the experience was good but there are a few things that stop it becoming excellent.

Nice fresh carvery and very enjoyable apart from a very large family/party which were causing rather a lot of grief amongst other fellow diners !! The kids and some of the adults were running around the restaurant . Been very noisy and generally roudy !! Really glad we have well behaved and well mannered children !! As I was discussing this with the waiter one of the family members started to pick an argument with me !! Just glad my children were at the toilet at the time !! It was upsetting and intimidating !! But I can really say it was dealt with swiftly and professionally by the lovely waiter and manageress who also took her time to sit with me and my family once the others had gone !! For which I was very grateful for !! It hasn't put us off and we will definately return X X X thanks X X x

Usually go out to restaurants with the old man but, while doing some shopping in the St Marks area, decided to have a Sunday roast at the Toby. As a Vegetarian, the meat-free lunch was ace. Crispy Yorkshire pud almost the size of the plate, lush stuffing and veg and roast tates which almost rivalled the mother-in-laws (and hers are pretty damn fine). Old man was happy with his "proper" roast dinner too. Piled high plates which neither of us could finish, absolute bargain and very decent fare. Worth a visit for basic but wholesome Sunday roast. Away for the weekend for my birthday and chose Toby carvery for me meal out. Oh it was so the wrong choice, there are so many other places to have gone. From entering and waiting 5 minutes for someone to great us things were not good. We were sat at a smudged dirty table and left for 10 minutes before some came to take our drinks order after 5 minutes the waitress came back to confirm our drinks order that was a coffee and glass of water. We then got told to help ourselves to our meal from the carvery. We went up and chose our meats i had some slim slices of dried up beef and some dry turkey. As we chose our veg i got my fingers burnt by the serving tongs as they had been left under the heat lamps. We ate our meal and then noticed our drinks had not arrived, i suppose it was a big order to remember. We asked for our bill and yes the drinks were on it. I pointed this out and i dont think our waitress believed us so off she walked with our bill only to return with a biy of paper with a deduction for the drinks on it. Not the bill. We went to pay with only this in hand and again had a 5 minute wait for someone to come to the till. I said this is my bill and was told no and was given the correct one i pointed out that we had intended to order sweets and more drinks but because the service was so bad we would go elsewhere. No apology was given and we left. The food was not cracking all the meat tasted the same and was basic mush. The service was non existent we did more our selves. I would not visit a Toby again.

After reading mixed reviews and previously experiencing great food and service at another Toby we decide to give it a go. So today four of us had booked and gone here. Upon arrival we were told we would be shouted once our table was ready, literally as our bums hit the seats we were shouted up, not sure why we couldn't have stood and waited a moment. We were seated at our table by a friendly lady who promptly took our drinks order. Sadly this was the only speedy bit.Our drinks were sat on the side for at least 10minutes before someone came to ask us If we had ordered any. Staff seemed very unorganized and no specific job roles / tables to serve. We were stood waiting in the Que for our carvery for a few minutes, no big deal but the man carving looked like he could do with some help! Again, comparing this to our experience in another 'branch' we received an awfully small carving of our chosen meat, looked more like a child's portion! Not much veg readily available to chose from, other than potatoes we only age the choice of carrots, peas or cabbage - I assume we were waiting on refills for two other empty dishes. Gravy looked as though it hadn't been checked in a while as had all sorts of bits of people's dinner floating about in it. Bread sauce was nothing to be deisered thanks to its poor consistency. Having said this the food we ate was very tasty and to the usual Toby standard. Compliments to the chef. We sat about waiting for our bill for at least ten minutes, again no one came! We then went up to the bar to settle it before leaving. The lady behind was very ignorant and quiet frankly rude. She was going about doing her job however wasnt rushed by any means so who knows why she couldn't pause a moment to see what we wanted or if she could help! Without even acknowledging us she glared and walked off leaving us stood there!! A few minutes later 're appeared and carried on cleaning glasses! Finally she miserably asked us what it was we wanted, when we told her we would like to settle the bill her response was 'have you been assigned a table' 'well which one was it I can't do anything unless you tell me' a simple 'Which table were you seated at please' would have sufficed! Grumpily she eventually understood we wanted our bill splitting without so much as a thank you or a goodbye when we left. Hardly what you expect from front of house staff. Sadly we will not be visiting here again!

I had to telephone my wife to ask her to get some paper from the Ladies and bring to us. Not a good experience at all. I would be very interested to know how often the toilets are checked!

Heard mixed reviews for this place so I thought I'd try it today. Yes breakfast is positively disgusting. Have to go pay at the bar before you sit down so they have your money before you realise the food is vile. My son had two sausages as he's an avid sausage lover but he said they were the cheapest tasting sausages he's ever had. Then out came my vegetarian sausages which I couldn't cut the knife physically wouldn't go in them. Then there's the vegetarian 'hash brown' as pictured. Burnt to high heaven and tasting of charcoal. Inedible. The guy that brought it out to me was sniggering then realised why when I looked it what he'd just put on the table. The meat version of the hash brown looked the same and I wondered why it was black then found out why. The Yorkshire puddings were rock hard and put grease all in my beans. The fried eggs weren't yellow in the middle they were totally grey there was no way I was eating those. The mushrooms were shrivelled to nothing and were full of crunchy bits like dirt. The toast machine has just about had it and either had to put it through 3 times or once and it was very burnt and also inedible. I went for the put it through 3 times toast and it was still like untoasted bread. Other than that there was fatty bacon or jugs of tinned tomatoes. Premier inn is a comparable price and far superior to this rubbish. I might not have demanded a refund on this occasion which I could kick myself for but they won't ever get another penny out of me. Don't waste your money or your stomach lining it's a disgrace.

Came here as a treat for my mother day before mothers day and came with my little brother and sister. It was the first time we had been. We were amazed at how big the carvery was, we also had dessert and was very pleased with what we had. Customer service was good and the price was reasonable. Would definately come here again and recommend it to other people.

If you've ever been to a Toby before you'll know what to expect. A plate with meat and veg, all as you'd expect from a Sunday roast. If you haven't you may feel a little let down by their meat portion sizes but I guess the restaurant chain has to make money somewhere.

We were seated and drinks brought unfortunately there was no turkey on the carvery but other three meats were well stocked. Worried that the vegetables may not be hot but they were fine. Good selection and an ample portion of meat. The beef was very good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Managed to make room for the winter fruits crumble and custard which was excellent. Each person got large jug of custard. When in the area will definitely visit again.

4/2/16 Came in for lunch at 1:30. Food was good but service was shocking. Waited for a long time to be seated even though the restaurant was half empty. Waitress then took us to our table, asked us what drinks, and left. Eventually we went to the bar to ask if we were meant to go and help ourselves to food or wait to be asked what we wanted. They said to go and get food. When getting gravy I burned my hand as the gravy pots are stood on a big slab that is heated from underneath. When I went to the bar to get ice the bartender told me there is a sign saying "caution: hot" but it was a tiny sign round the other end of the gravy station. Not good enough for something that hot! Food was decent. The waitress came back to ask how our food was and then rudely walked away before we even had chance to answer.

We went for a Sunday lunch with the family and it was just ok overall. The food was all well cooked and hot, but it wasn't anything special and it didn't beat a home-made lunch. Toby Carvery are offering a few promotons at the moment and 1 of them is 2 carverys for £10. You don't even have to print anything out, as I just showed them the deal on their website using my phone. The food is all really good quality, as nothing has been sitting for too long and drying up under the heat lamps. The meat selection was excellent (4 to choose from) and the sides options are varied and ample. The only critisicm would be that the utensils that are used to help yourself to the sides are really hot !!! There are small napkins placed along the top which help, but a sign warning of this would be helpful. Maybe a different type of material could be used for the utensils too that doesn't heat up as much under the strong heat lamps? The service was fine too as we weren't waiting for any length of time during our visit. The tables were clean as was the cutlery and glasses. All in all a great meal at a great price.

We came here as a family in the evening due to a voucher promotion. We have eaten here before and it was great, although it was earlier in the evening so maybe that is where we went wrong (but only for one aspect ** which I will explain below)Veg - good selection but the majority of it was lukewarm due to no doubt to the fact that it had been on the warming plates from when they opened and we were there at about 20:30** Carrots - hard. Beans - hard. Cauli - rock hard. Add the fact that the veg overall was lukewarm = yuck.We also felt that the meat portions were very stingy - 3 thin slices per person! We won't be in a hurry to return.

This was my second visit out of three to a Toby carvery with the family. Whilst out venturing around Lincoln on the last day of our holiday out of pure luck we found a Toby carvery, not sure how we would have missed it though! It was very quiet and peaceful considering it was nearly 3 in the afternoon. Food was lovely as usual, gammon was slightly too salty but the amount of beef they gave me took my mind straight off it, not faults other than the possibility of closing the curtains or having a fan on as it was a very hot and sunny day! No fault of the restaurant but I couldn't open the bottle of my Ginger Beer :O I was mortified! But a very nice waitress came over and replaced it in an instant and what a very nice Ginger Beer it was!Great for a nice lunch out with the family, I recommend the King Size plate and a bottle of Ginger Beer, you won't regret it!

There were only about 5 couples in there ! The boy let us stay . Ordered the drinks ,not much of a choice, then went up for the food. Checked it out first as given it was not busy and mid afternoon it may have been heated to death or scraps. But it was not . It all looked good and well stocked. Got a good portion of all the meat, it tasted good too. The building is dull and boring and no atmosphere at all . Dishes were cleared eventually, so my wife and I sat awhile and chatted , it was still not busy and we watched other people who knew the procedure wait and wait to be seated when the 13 year old interrupted snapping that I could pay at the bar. Trying to not go mad went over to the crowded bar .NOT customers but the STAFF ! . Will not return. The Toby at Badgers Mount Sevenoaks Kent is excellent.

The poor level of customer service within this establishment is endemic. It starts at the very top with the management, filtering it's way to the very bottom to the waiting staff. The quality of the meal you can expect is a complete lottery with the odds leaning towards an 80% chance that you will leave extremely disappointed. Depending on when you go in; it might be OK, then again it might not. It might be hot. Thee food may be hot, whist more than likely it may not. This company must be losing a lot of potential income, as looking on this site this problem seems widespread across the whole chain of restaurants.

I should have turned around when I saw the signs on the door saying 'no sausages'. How is a firm like this unable to source sausages?? But, I was there, so just dived in. Went up to the counter.....no bacon, a couple of 'Yorkies', no breakfast gravy, a smattering of hash, no brown sauce. I waited ten minutes for the bacon to come out, then just took what I could. The table I sat at was sticky and unpleasant, lots of rubbish underneath. When I went back to the counter, there were loads of 'Yorkies' but again no breakfast gravy. I asked the monosyllabic fellow who came out of the kitchen how long it would be, he said 'five minutes'. So, I waited five minutes. And when he did finally appear, I questioned him again, he said he'd bring it across to my table in a couple of minutes. I ate what I pulled from the buffet, but no sign of the gravy ten minutes later, so just walked out. The hash had potatoes that were so hard that it pointed to not being cooked properly. I've been to Toby breakfasts in the past and they have, without reservation, been really good. But this was just absolutely rubbish. My suggestion, before going to pay your money, go and see what is on the counter. If it looks good, then do so, because they can be really good. Wish I'd done it this time, because half the metal counter was empty.

Went in the Lincoln Toby carvery about 17.30 hours on the 14th December and it was 90% empty. The waitress showed us to a makeshift table adjacent to the French windows overlooking a cold wet and dank patio. We asked for a different table so she offered us the same type of table on the opposite side of the doors but still a makeshift set up. We asked if we could have a booth or a proper table but we were told they were all completely booked. We said we didn't want to sit on those makeshift tables and we weren't offered anything else, nor any apology and so we left. My friend went into Debenhams so I decided to call the duty manager to see if she could resolve the issue or offer an explanation. She was completely clueless and totally disinterested, in fact coming over as if she were a 14 year old bimbo. She did say that all the tables were booked for parties for a half hour's time. To which I asked why the waitress hadn't explained this in the first place, and I why there weren't any 'reserved' signs on all these tables. The duty manager said they don't use them, she said they put a menu on the table to mark they are reserved. I asked how she expected the customer to know that? She didn't answer. I then asked for the head office customer complaint's telephone number. She said she didn't have it. She told me to complain on line but even if I did it would be the Lincoln Toby Carvery that called me back anyway. Basically, she insinuated that I was wasting my time complaining and that it wouldn't get me very far We went across the road at the Chinese buffet and because we had parked there we came past the Toby Carvery an hour later to get to the car and although significantly busier it certainly wasn't wasn't full. I contacted Toby Carvery head office today who said that they were escalating the complaint away from site, though it might take seven days for someone to get back to me. I am not holding my breath, given the comments by other customers on here. It seems to me that this particular Toby Carvery is staffed by clueless and totally disinterested young women who are either at University and this is their part time job and they are just going through the motions, or if it's their full time job they have just mentally switched off for the shift. Either way, I wont be back...

I went with 4 friends. Waited for a table for 15 minutes even though the place appeared empty. Then after we sat down no one came to us for at least 15 minutes and then we had to go and find someone, we didnt know what to do, as in should we just go up to the carvery or wait for the waiter to see us first, it all seemed very vague or do we get our own drinks or does the waiter get them? Finally we went up to the carvery, queued for 10 minutes. The amount of meat was very sparsre, a childs portion in my opinion. I do not eat huge portions but but a normal portion it was not. I was going to ask for more but felt it would be embarassing. The vedges were peas, carrots and cauliflower cheese and red cabbage. Last time I came here all vedges were fresh, not this time. The sauces and gravies were not labelled. The best thing on the plate was the mashed potatoes , only because it was buttery. Very disappointing meal, plates were cold too, so by the time you were half way tthrough your meal the food was stone cold. I shall not be going here again.

Well this morning drove in to lincoln for a hearty breakfast, looking forward to a good toby breakfast parked up and went in annnnnd that's when the happy story ends.Having paid for our breakfast and the never ending coffee, tea proceeded with cups to the table. Collected plates, put down said plates due to some scummy residue on the back of them and selected some others. So the gauntlet of what was edible was made, the bacon is horrifying I wouldn't give that crap to my dog, the sausages feel like they are wrapped in some kind of man made material that quite possibly shouldn't be consumed. Now I wanted eggs I lurrrve the eggs however today was not the day I was having eggs :( arriving to some oily white slop in a dish there was no eggs, I asked the person behind the counter of food darkness "have you got anymore eggs" too which I got a shrug of the shoulders and "I don't know" yeah well thanks for that. However the food preporation person (can't possibly call him a chef) said they would be 5 mins, we'll let's be honest to bloody dishes of eggs went put earlier surely you can manage to see when one dish of eggs has been used. So anyway took the plate of disgust back to the table only to find our cups and cutlery had been taken grrr. Filled up on coffee which was horrendously weak and pathetic.Too think I actually considered having a Christmas meal here as there where spaces, sod that I couldn't possibly stomach the food or the disorganised staff again. Yeah just check out that bacon pic. When there is more fat than meat, Jesus how cheap is that crap.

We decided on this as we were looking for a traditional Sunday roast. The place was very busy, so had to wait around half an hour for a table. Given the parking charges, that adds significantly to the bill (they have no car parking). Having looked forward to the roast, it was extremely disappointing, in that there was hardly any meat! The beef was mostly fat and gristle, and was limited to 3 slivers around half an inch wide by 3 inches long. The turkey and pork were slightly bigger, but so thinly cut as to be transparent. The vegetable selection was good, and there were plenty of those, but if you're a meat eater, steer clear! It also took about 10 minutes to pay the bill, which required queuing at the bar, as the waiting staff seemed unable to recognise that we had finished our meal a further 10 minutes before. We won't be back, and I recommend others not to go until they sort out the service and the standard of portion control on the meat.

We needed feeding so a quick look on yell.com for Carveries brought this up as the nearest. Unexpectedly it didn't have a car park so I paid for an hour on the meter outside. When we went in the place had an occupancy of around 60-70% but we were told there would be a 20-25 minute wait for a table. After waiting and being allocated a table we then joined another 35 minute queue for the carvery. The carvery chef was doing his best and the kitchen staff kept replenishing the empty carvery items. The meat portions that were being given were on the lower limits of acceptable, only around 4 ounces. The huge Yorkshire puddings were nice. Having put my meal together it wasn't steaming, nothing was 'piping hot' and really was a luke warm experience with the mash being cold after the walk back to the table. On the way to the venue we checked the Toby website, where it clearly states a two course carvery is £6.99, in line with most other outlets. After getting to the table it appeared the Carvery was £9.49 for a single course, everything else being extra. Having accepted a budget of around £25 it ended up in with a bill of around £50 for a basic 2 course meal and soft drinks for 3 of us. My dessert, Blackcurrant Eton Mess was little more than dish of whipped cream visited by half a dozen blackcurrants and a few tiny bits of meringue. No display of skill here. Conclusion : Ripped off, Very expensive, Unacceptable wait, cold food with frugal meat portion. The staff were all lovely and surroundings pleasant but clearly this is one organisation that is not getting its act together.
