Staff really welcoming. A good range of beers. The cask beers are superbly kept. The food looks and smells delicious. All in all, a great find!

Had a great experience. Six of us had different choices from the menu and all were delicious. Lovely staff, Hannah was very welcoming and attentive. Really enjoyed the quiz too. Will definitely be returning.

I recently enjoyed visiting York, a charming city with stunning architecture. On the way back home, I stopped at Lincoln. After enjoying the sights at Lincoln, I stopped by to see my sister-in-law, who is expecting next month. It was a delightful visit, likely the last before she welcomes her new baby. We decided to cap off the visit with a drink and some nibbles at a local pub. Upon arrival, the bar staff instructed us to head to the second floor and choose any unreserved table. We found a cosy corner, perfect for relaxing. However, our initial contentment was soon disrupted. A bartender on the second floor unexpectedly shouted across the room to acknowledge our arrival, startling us and other patrons. After waiting about 5-10 minutes without receiving menus, I approached the bar to inquire, only to be accused of rudeness for not properly checking in upon selecting our table. Despite my attempts to clarify the misunderstanding, citing the instructions we received downstairs, the bartender argued rather than explain the establishment's policies and assisted us. Not wanting to cause any stress for my pregnant sister-in-law, we decided to leave the pub. Having travelled extensively across the EU, the US, and other regions, I've never encountered such an unwelcoming experience simply for following seating instructions. Travellers visiting this pub should be cautious of the bearded bartender, whose lack of professionalism and courtesy significantly dampened our experience. ______________________________________ Thank you for your reply. I truly appreciate your response and understand the importance of supporting your team. I just wanted to clarify that at no point did we intend to cause any disruption or misunderstandings. When we arrived, the bartender downstairs didn't instruct us to check with anyone regarding seating. A gentleman at the lower bar kindly informed us that we could grab a table and make ourselves comfortable, and that we would be served. The table we chose wasn’t dirty, though it was missing two sets of forks, which we didn’t think was a problem. If we did make any mistake in terms of seating, we would have greatly appreciated a polite approach, perhaps explaining, “Sorry, this table isn’t quite ready yet,” or something along those lines. That would have been helpful and easily understood. But he didn't, he just ignored us until we approached him at the bar after waiting for 5-10 minutes as I have mentioned before. He could politely tell us to move elsewhere and do not cause any issues by just nicely explaining the situation, but again, he failed by raising his voice and getting in to argument. While I understand the need to support your staff, we were left with the impression that we weren’t welcome, and that is the main concern I wanted to raise. A lovely pub, didn't eat but beer was well kept and service is great

Really small portions we spent £70 and came out hungry. A Pork "Tomahawk"was a chop and my wife ate her crab linguine in 7 mouthfuls. Terrible value AVOID the food and awful wine. Nice beer mind and building too have a beer and leave.

Visited recently after our daughters graduation, We booked in advance which was wise as they were very busy. Food was excellent, I had the ham,egg and chips but it was more like a gammon steak and came with a delicious pineapple chutney. Service was excellent - nothing was too much trouble. A perfect end to an amazing day.

Had a lovely experience at The Wig last night, I especially liked my ham, egg and chips which was more like gammon, a juicy,tender piece of meat rather than slices of cold ham, served with a pineapple and onion relish, perfect! My partner had beautiful fish n chips, also fabulous Great staff, particularly Dawn who found time to chat even though she’d had an extremely busy day as it had been graduation day in Lincoln!

Such a treat! I came here to celebrate my graduation with family and friends and the food was absolutely amazing, would definitely reccomend. Our server Dawn was fabulous!! so kind and friendly, and made our experience here so special, thank you very much. Will definitely come again.

Just ate here and had the honey and mustard ham. It was a proper hunk of gammon like a steak and when cutting into it, shredded beautifully. I’ve not had a pub ham as lovely as that for a long time - usually it’s just a thin slice but this was a CHONKER! Also the waitress was great - she was so efficient and hardworking props to her.

Well what can I Say, very dog friendly with a very welcoming Dawn she was lovely, so 2 labradoodles and 2 very thirsty and hungry people after managing to conquer the steep hill. The home cooked food was just amazing would recommend this to any one with or without dogs.

My wife and I stopped in on a whim and found the best food we've had in a very long time. The fish and chips were absolutely perfect, as was the burger. Fresh and beautifully cooked. We were very impressed to say the least, and we are not easily pleased! Absolutely 5 stars.

Having read the excellent reviews before we chose here we thought it would be a great place for lunch. We found it hugely disorganised from the outset. No one knew the numbers who were in, so they just sent people upstairs to try and find a table. Having sat down in a room upstairs, we ordered our food and told the server we were in here. We were made to feel awkward 45 mins later (while still waiting for our food) by whom I can only assume was the manager, aggressively accusing us of opening the curtain to sit in here and making it feel like was it was our fault for sitting on some tables that were 'upstairs'. Some serious customer service training needed and better organisation in general. We were made to feel extremely unwelcome and uncomfortable. If I stopped here it would be pretty damning, but let's continue. I must say it is the most over priced food I've seen in a long time. Small portions for big prices. The crab was actually crab paste and not served on sourdough bread as described. Trade descriptions act anyone? Certainly not worth it in my book. In fact, I had to call into the fish and chips shop for a portion chips afterwards to actually feel full.

overpriced food and awful had flat iron open steak on sourdough sandwich asked for medium, well it was that over ot was.like chewing a shoe, it was just white bread not sourdough, 5 tiny slices of steak and the sauce that came was nasty it was mushroom and Stilton it came in a pot and there was a 1cm layer of grease on it. when we complained even the staff member turned up his nose and said what is that, my husband had crab on sourdough with pickled cucumber and had rinds of skin on like they had peeled it an d put the peelings on the plate. When he asked where his chips where the waitresses got all haughty and said he'd not ordered any and continued to argue then just walked off! came back and slammed them on the table!! we had checked the menu and what we had paid and they has definitely Bern ordered. It's a nice old building but that's how they lure us poor unsuspecting souls in as not enough care had been taken with the food or customer service don't be tempted by its location. Very disappointing

Place was a mess clearly been busy prior to our arrival. chips were amazing but are not home made I had ham and egg ham was overcooked and very chewy egg was not runny and over cooked my wife's meal Sausage and Mash was ok my wife had a cheesecake for pudding which was amazing I had a Panna Cotta which rates as the worse I had ever had , I had to go to Tesco after to buy one to remind me of why I like this pudding. Kitchen view from the Bar looked messy and the chefs were not dressed correctly.

We found ourselves without children and without a meal plan so went to the Wig. Had a very good deal which was on the website although the serving staff weren't aware of it, but they honoured it without quibble. Lovely food, nice atmosphere. We may go here for our son's 18th in a month or two.

Nice and classic English pub, we had a good and relaxing evening. I ordered the fillet of bream and the way it was served pleasantly surprised me, but it in terms of taste and texture it was nothing special. The veggies were also a bit boring. Staff was very friendly and pleasant.

Had a meal here yesterday and all I can say is WOW! Exceptional service from the lovely lady and the manager behind the bar. Never have I had a steak that was cooked to such perfection and the pigs in blankets as a side order were to die for. I will definitely be returning and strongly recommend this pub.

My friends and I enjoyed dinner and dessert at the Wig and Mitre on 1st July. Our welcome was very friendly and warm, making us very comfortable. The menu was excellent, with a good range of foods to accommodate all tastes. Our food came quickly and was delicious, including a beautiful sirloin steak which was cooked exactly to the request. Our evening was comfy, easy and delicious with wine flowing easily. I would 100% come here again and am already making plans with my husband to do so. Thank you Wig and Mitre for a gorgeous evening.

We made a reservation which was great because they were very busy. Even with a full house they presented us with fresh, yummy hot food. Delightful.

I had the pleasure of hosting our engineering partners from Austria at the Wig and Mitre. The location made for an interesting cultural exchange and the restaurant was a nice smart yet not intimidating, easily accommodating to our party of 8 and the food was fantastic. Our guests left impressed with their evening and I highly recommend the venue.

Nice pub with friendly staff. We had the scotch eggs,burger and fries ,also the cauliflower steak. The house wig and mitre beer is well worth having (4.5 out of 5 rating). I would recommend for a lunchtime meal whilst sightseeing around the cathedral and castle.

The wig and Mitre is a beautiful pub with great staff which promises greatness with its menu. But it ended with the great staff. The food was very disappointing. It came, and almost everything was cold And for the price, the portions were very small. I did mention my fish and chips were cold and was given a 10% discount on my meal but to be honest I would have preferred it to be hot. If we had been a large party it may have been a factor of trying to serve us all together but we were only four. And nearly £100 later we left feeling very dissatisfied.

Great time & brilliant meal, above beyond service by Rick. Will happily be coming back again.

Stopped in for a drink on Friday night. Town was very busy due to the concert at the Castle. We ordered drinks at the bar and couldn’t find any seats so we headed upstairs and asked a waitress if we could sit at one of the used dining tables that wasn’t cleared down yet whilst we finished our drinks. She said yes, no problem as long as we weren’t planning on sitting long. No sooner had we sat down, a waiter with a shaved head and a long beard approached and asked if we’d like a menu. We explained the above to him and he called us all a restaurant’s worst nightmare then said his colleague is unreliable and doesn’t know what she’s doing half the time, before walking off. What an absolute melt… I feel sorry for anyone having to work with him. We couldn’t finish our drinks fast enough, so I guess his tactic worked. Won’t be back there any time soon and hope the management team read this and adjust his attitude.

Booked room upstairs for sons 30th birthday, everything was lovely the staff couldn’t do enough for us especially Charlie who went out of her way to help. The buffet went down very well everything was perfect would highly recommend

Sadly, slow service despite a quiet pub. Bread, (special) butter and oil took 30 minutes to arrive (without its butter). Squid starter arrived overcooked and Luke warm (and not lightly dusted as per the menus description...more heavily caked in breadcrumbs and cooked until chewy and unpleasant). Bream papillote was such a small portion at £18.95 I wondered if I was supposed to wait for side vegetables (Especially since I'd not had a starter). My partner had a large bowl of dry, tasteless gnocchi which benefitted from a nice piece of chicken. Sadly we were also crammed in next to another table of two, despite the place being empty. We were right next to the stairs, so we were charmed by the staff moaning about having to go up and down every few minutes. (Other than a male staff member who ran up the stairs and bounced between the levels from the seated area to the upper bar... making us jump). Strangest meal out in a very very long time. Such a shame.

Had a fantastic meal last Saturday and everything was so reasonably priced. Special thanks to our waitress, Charlie, who was super-efficient, attentive and good humoured. The restaurant was heaving as there was a concert at the Castle, but Charlie was still smiling. Will definitely return - especially if they're still serving the flat-iron steak!

Disappointed with the overall experience yesterday evening. A 25 minute wait for bread nibble that was missing the butter. Starters came about 15 minutes later and the squid was cold and, overcooked and not at all lightly dusted. The Ndjua scotch egg was very nice however. Sea bream was nice but very small, 2 olives, 2 tomatoes and a few potato halves. Supreme of chicken was nothing like expected. Sun blush tomatoes were just cherry tomatoes and only 2 of them. Parmesan cream was like beurre blanc with no seasoning. Could not taste pesto or parmesan. Disappointed. Other people seemed to be enjoying their food but we weren't impressed. Won't return.

Me and my boyfriend came here for a few drinks last Friday night, there was live music on and overall a really good vibe. We enjoyed taking to the young girl on the bar called Anna, she was very chatty and made our experience 10/10

Absolutely fantastic food. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. I'd especially like to mention our waitress Dawn, she was so friendly, nothing was too much trouble. She advised us on the menu and took our order. We opted for the burger and chips. Really tasty. There were plenty of choices and will definitely be back to try more! This pub does not fail to impress. Hopefully Dawn will be working again when we return, she is the kind of person that brightens up the dullest day!

Was in the area so decided to come for a few pints after a long bank holiday weekend. Got chatting to the alternative barmaid who's name I believe was Charlie and she was brilliant! Really friendly and in the know proper service with a smile. The drink selection was good and the prices very reasonable. Would definitely recommend this place. What a disappointment We attended here as a foursome as they profess to having the best food in the area. Sadly this is not the case We were slightly early to arrive but were greeted and sent upstairs where there was an array of dirty plates and glasses littering the bar, not a problem as they could’ve been busy but there were more empty Tables than full ones. We were then seated and ordered drinks I had the mojito which for the price was not value for money It should’ve been mint but was something resembling water cress instead . We all ordered beef and this took 35 mins to arrive and when it did the beef was tough like it had been reheated several times and the roast potatoes couldn’t be cut and both were just about inedible. all plates had 2-3 thinly sliced carrots and a very small portion of green beans we also ordered courgette fries which were cold on arrival. Nobody came to ask How our meals were and it was clear there were other problems as one table got up And walked out and the other three had all complained, we noticed one family Of four were missing meals and the children ate after their parents. Absolutely shocking wig and mitre stop making claims of the best food in the area when you quite simply Are most definitely the worse !! We paid £90 and had one meal removed from the bill which still wasn’t enough.

Came over the bank holiday there was a great atmosphere full of people having conversations no mobile phones (they are allowed) there was 2 girls behind the bar talking to customers while serving with a smile and laughing. The place was very welcoming I had a Guinness which was cold and poured perfect. We all didn’t have food but stayed for a long time as we had table service for drinks which was unexpected so we couldn’t say no as service with a smile sense of humour was fantastic (wearing glasses). Pony tail girl and girl with glasses were so funny and very welcoming. Got to say will be returning to try the food as I live not far away. Ignore the bad reviews best place in lincoln.

Finally got our scotch egg!!! Woohoo! Was visiting Lincoln for the History weekend and popped in the Wig n Mitre. Stayed all night for the amazing hospitality. They make you feel so welcome, like you're part of the family. Absolutely wonderful. Ended up going every day we were there just to see everyone, and would 100% visit Lincoln again just to go to the Wig and Mitre. Thanks so much for making our weekend memorable 💖 will see you again

Came here last night there was a band on, a young girl she was fantastic and the place eventually got packed out. Martin the manager had a great sense of humour and was welcoming. Young girl behind bar was excellent think her name was Hannah and dawn was doing table service and she was wonderful, a credit to the company, what a great team, customer service was 100%. Will certainly be returning!!

Just had a pie that I hear Oliver the chef has hand crafted over 2 days. Good lord. It was phenomenal. Dawn was also an excellent server. Nothing too much for her. What a sweetheart.

Wow just Wow 👌 👏 😍 👍 Well all I can say is highly recommend, homemade food cooked by a 23 year old girl, head chef and her amazing team. I Recommend everything on the menu, but as you can see scotch egg, squid, ham, egg chips, chicken pesto burger, fish and chips 100% perfect.

Fantastic night finishing our daughters early birthday 🎂 after going for a pizza. Very welcoming we were only going to have a couple of drinks but staff Anna and a regular customer Nathan made us feel at home. unfortunately introduced us to shots. Came Saturday sat downstairs, the place was absolutely packed out. This wasn't a problem as the staff were still busy the service was fantastic 👌. A lady in her 40s grey hair was great upselling is a must and she didn't disappoint we only came in for a main a couple of drinks but ended up with a bottle of wine and desserts. Food was hot cooked perfect full of flavour. Will be returning because the place is very welcoming.

We came for a drink 21 April 2024 and sat upstairs. There were 14 big bluebottle flies in the front windows and there was some food on the floor. I assume kids had dropped chips accidentally. When we paid our bill downstairs I told the manager about the flies and he said they must be fruit flies. I said no, they were definitely bluebottles but he made no mention of what he intended to do, he just said he was short staffed due to illness. We returned 24/4. The weather was cooler but there were still 4 bluebottles in the front window of the upstairs bar. The staff need to pay closer attention to cleanliness, even when it's very busy.

Absolutely phenomenal execution of the food. The steak I ordered was warm in the middle despite being ordered bleu, as is very rarely accomplished. The desserts were so good that I’ll be coming back just for a sweet treat. The best quality of food of any pub in Lincoln. The beauty of the venue also contributed to the amazing atmosphere. Lovely staff too

Went to this gem of a place for afternoon lunch belive it's a new venture in this pub / restaurant.. I hope they keep it going as I have to say it was without doubt amazing 1 of the best I've ever had and seriously good value.. the pub its self is spotless very well put out friendly helpfully staff ..Martin the new manager brilliant helpful and dawn who served us again brilliant she was again helpful chatty I believe when u get a team like that uou can't go wrong so many thank

Booked for our 36th wedding anniversary online . on arrival 7.45pm it was obvious that it had been a busy days service empty glasses & bottles all over the bar uncleared tables etc. however once the only server(oliver)was able to attend to us things improved greatly he explained that there had been a University graduation ceremony at the cathederal & things had been "manic". Our food was fantastic scotch eggs crab sourdough starters. sirloin steak (cooked perfectly) & thick cut ham dish mains. The service was excellent especially given that Oliver was having to run around like the proverbial headless chicken so my only negative observation is increased staffing may improve things.

We booked a table for dinner on Saturday evening. On arrival, our table was in a crowded corner upstairs and, in response to a request from one of our party, we were moved to the empty restaurant space up on another floor, which was great and very much appreciated. Ollie, who really looked after us very well all evening, went the extra mile for us, and then some. He’s an absolute gem. It transpired that the staff rotas had not been updated correctly, resulting in staff shortages and several meal choices not being available for diners that evening. Ollie was trying to look after three floors of bar customers, and diners, at the same time. He was constantly running up and down stairs sorting out problems in all areas. He maintained a very calm and pleasant manner despite the difficulties experienced. Our starters were good - halloumi, mini peppers, courgette fries, and squid, although some of our preferred choices were unavailable. The flat steaks were unavailable so 3 sirloin steaks were ordered (£8 each, more expensive). All 3 steaks were full of gristle, not very tasty, and overcooked. The crab linguini was lacking crab and flavour, and may have been improved with Parmesan cheese (not available). The bream was delivered in a paper parcel and was delicious. Only one dessert was ordered - ice cream and the diner really enjoyed the selection of flavours. All in all, the food was acceptable and hopefully, the staff and food shortages that night, are not going to be the way forward for this business. Ollie held everything together and without him, I think the business might have closed down that night. His work ethic is incredibly good and he deserves a medal.

Excellent repas. Un des meilleurs que j'aie mangé en Angleterre depuis que j'y vis ( 2000). Excellent pub food, the best I've had in years actually. The meat was delicious and well cooked and the sauces delicate. Service was cheerful and efficient. A wonderful experience.

Well done to all involved; the refurb of the pub is looking amazing and the new menu is fantastic! Would highly recommend the Wig & Mitre to anyone looking for a nice drink or a meal. We look forward to popping back again soon for another meal at some point soon! Thanks from the LFWT team
