We went for a meal for my husband’s birthday and we always go for the quiz on a Tuesday evening. We went with friends. The food was excellent and the staff were lovely and helpful, Martin the owner is great, Thank you.

We visited for Sunday dinner at the weekend, the food was amazing, service brilliant everyone was polite and helpful. We will definitely be returning

My friends and I enjoyed dinner and dessert at the Wig and Mitre on 1st July. Our welcome was very friendly and warm, making us very comfortable. The menu was excellent, with a good range of foods to accommodate all tastes. Our food came quickly and was delicious, including a beautiful sirloin steak which was cooked exactly to the request. Our evening was comfy, easy and delicious with wine flowing easily. I would 100% come here again and am already making plans with my husband to do so. Thank you Wig and Mitre for a gorgeous evening.

I had the pleasure of hosting our engineering partners from Austria at the Wig and Mitre. The location made for an interesting cultural exchange and the restaurant was a nice smart yet not intimidating, easily accommodating to our party of 8 and the food was fantastic. Our guests left impressed with their evening and I highly recommend the venue.

Stopped in for a drink on Friday night. Town was very busy due to the concert at the Castle. We ordered drinks at the bar and couldn’t find any seats so we headed upstairs and asked a waitress if we could sit at one of the used dining tables that wasn’t cleared down yet whilst we finished our drinks. She said yes, no problem as long as we weren’t planning on sitting long. No sooner had we sat down, a waiter with a shaved head and a long beard approached and asked if we’d like a menu. We explained the above to him and he called us all a restaurant’s worst nightmare then said his colleague is unreliable and doesn’t know what she’s doing half the time, before walking off. What an absolute melt… I feel sorry for anyone having to work with him. We couldn’t finish our drinks fast enough, so I guess his tactic worked. Won’t be back there any time soon and hope the management team read this and adjust his attitude.

Booked room upstairs for sons 30th birthday, everything was lovely the staff couldn’t do enough for us especially Charlie who went out of her way to help. The buffet went down very well everything was perfect would highly recommend

Lovely friendly pub, made to feel very welcome, good banter between the competing quiz teams... waitress service (Charlie) was prompt and courteous, nothing was any bother, quiz host was articulate, funny and welcoming too. Looking forward to returning next weekend before the Madness gig 😊

Had a fantastic meal last Saturday and everything was so reasonably priced. Special thanks to our waitress, Charlie, who was super-efficient, attentive and good humoured. The restaurant was heaving as there was a concert at the Castle, but Charlie was still smiling. Will definitely return - especially if they're still serving the flat-iron steak!

Sadly, slow service despite a quiet pub. Bread, (special) butter and oil took 30 minutes to arrive (without its butter). Squid starter arrived overcooked and Luke warm (and not lightly dusted as per the menus description...more heavily caked in breadcrumbs and cooked until chewy and unpleasant). Bream papillote was such a small portion at £18.95 I wondered if I was supposed to wait for side vegetables (Especially since I'd not had a starter). My partner had a large bowl of dry, tasteless gnocchi which benefitted from a nice piece of chicken. Sadly we were also crammed in next to another table of two, despite the place being empty. We were right next to the stairs, so we were charmed by the staff moaning about having to go up and down every few minutes. (Other than a male staff member who ran up the stairs and bounced between the levels from the seated area to the upper bar... making us jump). Strangest meal out in a very very long time. Such a shame.

Disappointed with the overall experience yesterday evening. A 25 minute wait for bread nibble that was missing the butter. Starters came about 15 minutes later and the squid was cold and, overcooked and not at all lightly dusted. The Ndjua scotch egg was very nice however. Sea bream was nice but very small, 2 olives, 2 tomatoes and a few potato halves. Supreme of chicken was nothing like expected. Sun blush tomatoes were just cherry tomatoes and only 2 of them. Parmesan cream was like beurre blanc with no seasoning. Could not taste pesto or parmesan. Disappointed. Other people seemed to be enjoying their food but we weren't impressed. Won't return.

Great experience, me and my mates came in for a few drinks and despite being near the time of the kitchen closing they were able to do us a few bowls of chips, got chatting to Anna on the bar she was very friendly and bubbly.

Me and my boyfriend came here for a few drinks last Friday night, there was live music on and overall a really good vibe. We enjoyed taking to the young girl on the bar called Anna, she was very chatty and made our experience 10/10

Absolutely fantastic food. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. I'd especially like to mention our waitress Dawn, she was so friendly, nothing was too much trouble. She advised us on the menu and took our order. We opted for the burger and chips. Really tasty. There were plenty of choices and will definitely be back to try more! This pub does not fail to impress. Hopefully Dawn will be working again when we return, she is the kind of person that brightens up the dullest day!

Came over the bank holiday there was a great atmosphere full of people having conversations no mobile phones (they are allowed) there was 2 girls behind the bar talking to customers while serving with a smile and laughing. The place was very welcoming I had a Guinness which was cold and poured perfect. We all didn’t have food but stayed for a long time as we had table service for drinks which was unexpected so we couldn’t say no as service with a smile sense of humour was fantastic (wearing glasses). Pony tail girl and girl with glasses were so funny and very welcoming. Got to say will be returning to try the food as I live not far away. Ignore the bad reviews best place in lincoln.

What a disappointment We attended here as a foursome as they profess to having the best food in the area. Sadly this is not the case We were slightly early to arrive but were greeted and sent upstairs where there was an array of dirty plates and glasses littering the bar, not a problem as they could’ve been busy but there were more empty Tables than full ones. We were then seated and ordered drinks I had the mojito which for the price was not value for money It should’ve been mint but was something resembling water cress instead . We all ordered beef and this took 35 mins to arrive and when it did the beef was tough like it had been reheated several times and the roast potatoes couldn’t be cut and both were just about inedible. all plates had 2-3 thinly sliced carrots and a very small portion of green beans we also ordered courgette fries which were cold on arrival. Nobody came to ask How our meals were and it was clear there were other problems as one table got up And walked out and the other three had all complained, we noticed one family Of four were missing meals and the children ate after their parents. Absolutely shocking wig and mitre stop making claims of the best food in the area when you quite simply Are most definitely the worse !! We paid £90 and had one meal removed from the bill which still wasn’t enough.

Was in the area so decided to come for a few pints after a long bank holiday weekend. Got chatting to the alternative barmaid who's name I believe was Charlie and she was brilliant! Really friendly and in the know proper service with a smile. The drink selection was good and the prices very reasonable. Would definitely recommend this place. Finally got our scotch egg!!! Woohoo! Was visiting Lincoln for the History weekend and popped in the Wig n Mitre. Stayed all night for the amazing hospitality. They make you feel so welcome, like you're part of the family. Absolutely wonderful. Ended up going every day we were there just to see everyone, and would 100% visit Lincoln again just to go to the Wig and Mitre. Thanks so much for making our weekend memorable 💖 will see you again

Came here last night there was a band on, a young girl she was fantastic and the place eventually got packed out. Martin the manager had a great sense of humour and was welcoming. Young girl behind bar was excellent think her name was Hannah and dawn was doing table service and she was wonderful, a credit to the company, what a great team, customer service was 100%. Will certainly be returning!!

Just had a pie that I hear Oliver the chef has hand crafted over 2 days. Good lord. It was phenomenal. Dawn was also an excellent server. Nothing too much for her. What a sweetheart.

Fantastic night finishing our daughters early birthday 🎂 after going for a pizza. Very welcoming we were only going to have a couple of drinks but staff Anna and a regular customer Nathan made us feel at home. unfortunately introduced us to shots. Wow just Wow 👌 👏 😍 👍 Well all I can say is highly recommend, homemade food cooked by a 23 year old girl, head chef and her amazing team. I Recommend everything on the menu, but as you can see scotch egg, squid, ham, egg chips, chicken pesto burger, fish and chips 100% perfect.

Came Saturday sat downstairs, the place was absolutely packed out. This wasn't a problem as the staff were still busy the service was fantastic 👌. A lady in her 40s grey hair was great upselling is a must and she didn't disappoint we only came in for a main a couple of drinks but ended up with a bottle of wine and desserts. Food was hot cooked perfect full of flavour. Will be returning because the place is very welcoming.

We came for a drink 21 April 2024 and sat upstairs. There were 14 big bluebottle flies in the front windows and there was some food on the floor. I assume kids had dropped chips accidentally. When we paid our bill downstairs I told the manager about the flies and he said they must be fruit flies. I said no, they were definitely bluebottles but he made no mention of what he intended to do, he just said he was short staffed due to illness. We returned 24/4. The weather was cooler but there were still 4 bluebottles in the front window of the upstairs bar. The staff need to pay closer attention to cleanliness, even when it's very busy.

Absolutely phenomenal execution of the food. The steak I ordered was warm in the middle despite being ordered bleu, as is very rarely accomplished. The desserts were so good that I’ll be coming back just for a sweet treat. The best quality of food of any pub in Lincoln. The beauty of the venue also contributed to the amazing atmosphere. Went to this gem of a place for afternoon lunch belive it's a new venture in this pub / restaurant.. Booked for our 36th wedding anniversary online . on arrival 7.45pm it was obvious that it had been a busy days service empty glasses & bottles all over the bar uncleared tables etc. however once the only server(oliver)was able to attend to us things improved greatly he explained that there had been a University graduation ceremony at the cathederal & things had been "manic". Our food was fantastic scotch eggs crab sourdough starters. sirloin steak (cooked perfectly) & thick cut ham dish mains. The service was excellent especially given that Oliver was having to run around like the proverbial headless chicken so my only negative observation is increased staffing may improve things.

We booked a table for dinner on Saturday evening. On arrival, our table was in a crowded corner upstairs and, in response to a request from one of our party, we were moved to the empty restaurant space up on another floor, which was great and very much appreciated. Ollie, who really looked after us very well all evening, went the extra mile for us, and then some. He’s an absolute gem. It transpired that the staff rotas had not been updated correctly, resulting in staff shortages and several meal choices not being available for diners that evening. Ollie was trying to look after three floors of bar customers, and diners, at the same time. He was constantly running up and down stairs sorting out problems in all areas. He maintained a very calm and pleasant manner despite the difficulties experienced. Our starters were good - halloumi, mini peppers, courgette fries, and squid, although some of our preferred choices were unavailable. The flat steaks were unavailable so 3 sirloin steaks were ordered (£8 each, more expensive). All 3 steaks were full of gristle, not very tasty, and overcooked. The crab linguini was lacking crab and flavour, and may have been improved with Parmesan cheese (not available). The bream was delivered in a paper parcel and was delicious. Only one dessert was ordered - ice cream and the diner really enjoyed the selection of flavours. All in all, the food was acceptable and hopefully, the staff and food shortages that night, are not going to be the way forward for this business. Ollie held everything together and without him, I think the business might have closed down that night. His work ethic is incredibly good and he deserves a medal.

Excellent repas. Un des meilleurs que j'aie mangé en Angleterre depuis que j'y vis ( 2000). Excellent pub food, the best I've had in years actually. The meat was delicious and well cooked and the sauces delicate. Service was cheerful and efficient. A wonderful experience.

Poor quality food, building cold, January Sales offer scam. I would have eaten in the city centre but decided to walk up Steep Hill and check out Wig & Mitre January Sale offers on their A-board blocking the footpath. Somewhat confusing. One side of the A-board main courses £10, the other side selected lunch time offers £8. When I last visited for a drink some months ago, empty, not today, busy, or at least had been busy, from the evidence of the dirty uncleared tables. It must be the lunch time offers enticing them in. As I walked in, I noticed tables were dirty, had not been cleared of dirty dishes. I waited at the bar whilst drinks were ordered. I then asked of the offers. Barman rattled off less than half a dozen items, muttered terms and conditions, then brought me a board that listed the very limited offer. He had obviously been briefed, should a potential customer question the scam. A scam. Does not include everything on the main menu. I was also told get my order in, kitchen closed in ten minutes. Outside it said open all day. That evening I checked on-line, kitchen open all day. Scam.very restricted offer. Steak? No. Bangers and mash on the main menu a little over ten pounds. The same was true of the lunch time offers, only a few pence more than the offer price. At this point, once it was obvious it was a scam, I should have turned on my heels and walked out. I was at the bar several minutes. Whilst there, I noticed the door to the kitchen was open, sitting there an order of fish and chips. I asked for a table by the window to be cleared. I was directed to a table in the gloomy interior. Barman cleared a table. Apologised. Said he was the only one on. Serving drinks, taking orders, serving tables, cleaning tables. My order of scampi and chips arrived within minutes. Disgusting. On a par with a greasy spoon cafe, only a greasy spoon cafe would have been cheaper and better quality. Frozen peas, poor quality chips, very poor quality fake scampi. Served on a cold plate. The restaurant was cold. The WiFi was blocked by the security on my phone, not secure, an untrustworthy connection. Flipping through the drinks menu, no cocktails. Maybe for the better, as most bars and restaurants are clueless on cocktails. The only positive. A lovely old building. A chain and it shows. Begs the question, is this January Sales scam running across the chain? There are far better places to eat local to the Wig & Mitre. What would have happened if a group of people had sat down, ordered steak and chips, then when eaten, presented with a bill for the full price on the menu, not as they expected, ten pounds each? I would have refused to pay. I was wise enough to question the offer before ordering, but not wise enough once the scam exposed to turn on my heels and walk out. Had I walked out, at least I would have been spared the disgusting scampi and chips. The start of the New Year has seen many pubs and restaurants close. With the abysmal low standards of the Wig & Mitre it is easy to see why. The only suprise is that they remain open for business. --- update --- It is bad enough, poor quality food and service and a scam. To lie about the scam makes it worse. The large A-Board outside illegally blocking the footpath made no mention of terms & conditions on the offer displayed. I was wise enough to ask. Immediately 'terms & conditions' as though briefed or had many complaints, a small board was produced displaying a very restricted offer. There were no posters displayed. There are far better places to eat nearby, where they care about what they serve, care about service. --- update --- RedCat, the pubco that owns the Wig & Mitre, has called in administrators.

We visited from York for Sunday lunch meeting with my wife's sister and two dogs. The Wig is a great historic pub steep hill Lincoln. The food was brilliant, service was excellent and they couldn't have been more helpful. For anyone looking for a dog friendly place in Lincoln this is the place. There is a drink station for your dog with water and bowls plus you can buy a Sunday lunch snack for your dog. We will be back!!

Went for a pre Christmas meal with family back in Lincoln. Had booked a table on lower floor due to family member having mobility issues which came as a surprise to the staff on the day. They had to move another table to make way. Food was OK, but nowhere near as good as their normal menu which is great. Shame really. I like the place but would be hard pressed to go back for the Christmas set menu. For the price, it just was lacking.

Had a great time...staff are very friendly and create a relaxed atmosphere but also attentive..I had a prawn cocktail which was really nice however the Sunday roast beef was outstanding..can't remember when I've enjoyed food so much..10 out of 10...i'll be back!

Beer was good. Whole place smelled like fried fish. Atmosphere ok, however a couple were playing a very loud rattling dice game across from us so we left after one drink.

Food was excellent but nobody responded to my reservation request before I arrived. Fortunately there was plenty of space on the day.

We arrived on Christmas Eve after making a booking online for 9 people. We were told to go upstairs into the front room. The gentleman said the waitress would come up and take our order as we were a large party. So we didn’t have to come down to the bar. The waitress was extremely ill mannered and curt towards us while ordering. It was not a friendly atmosphere. We ordered drinks and said could we have a little longer as our whole party hasn’t decided on food. She huffed. She brought the drinks up. We had ordered two Buck’s Fizz. They were both flat. It was an irritant when we asked for them to be changed. We asked her what she had made them from. She said Prosecco. It should typically be champagne and if not it should be mentioned. The brunch took just under 50mins to arrive. We thought they had forgotten about us. The food was nice but not good enough to come if that waitress is still there. Her attitude was awful. We come every Christmas Eve for breakfast. The wig has always been known for its atmosphere and staff. Not now! Unfortunately after many years we will Not be returning.

Walked in just after a very busy period today, despite being clearly put under pressure whilst busy the chap behind the bar was really pleasant and chatty, ordering was easy, food and drinks great. You can’t ask for much more!

There wasn't steak on the menu. But they had two in the fridge. Yippee. Tasted lovely perfectly cooked.
