Booked for Sunday Lunch, with our dog. Lovely quiet atmosphere, plenty of dogs, all well behaved. Water bowl with top up greatly received. Food top notch lovely pink beef, plenty of gravy, what’s not to like. Teddy had kids Roast Chicken with veg & gravy, he loved it. Best Cauliflower Cheese I’ve had in a long time. Definitely recommend, definitely visit again

Great old pub in the heart of tourist area Lincoln. Friendly welcome and decent food. I probably come here at least once a week and it’s the sort of place where a lady could sit and read a paper with a coffee without issue. Staff go out of their way to make newcomers welcome.

We go to the Wig every Tuesday for quiz night, which is one of the best in town, I'm involved in another one on Sundays so need to be impartial! it is hosted by local DJ John Marshall ably assisted by Kezza and it is great fun The food is good quality pub food always served in reasonable time and piping hot and you can alter bits i.e. swap mash for chips. Though the availability of pies is now a running theme. But what really makes this pub excellent are the staff Martin, Hannah and Dawn in particular. For example last night Hannah asked if a gent Neil could join us, he had been in the night before and she got talking to him. Turns out he was from The Wirral and this was his 1st trip since losing his wife just before Christmas and he loved pubs and quizzes so Hannah suggested he came back next night for their quiz and said I know a team you can join, and we were happy to have him. Talk about going above and beyond thx Hannah. The evening ended eventfully with a small fire in the gent loo, hand drier overheated, but the staff were cool calm and collected escorted everyone out swiftly, you would expect that but I have seen happen and people panic, well done team. See you next Tuesday

Pros: -The servers that took our order and seated us wer every friendly and helpful - The food tasted lovely Cons: - Food wait was 45 minutes with no forewarning - Despite the menu stating a vegan option and explicitly stating at order the roast was without a Yorkshire pudding / was vegan, was still served as vegetarian with Yorkshire pudding. When highlighted to the server, solution was to just pick the Yorkshire off the plate by hand at the table -No vegan substitution for the removed items - No checkback undertaken

Nice pub, with a reasonable beer selection. Absolutely outrageous pricing strategy for food - £8.25 for one small piece of chicken badged as a ‘small plate’ Staff blamed the ownership group and gave the only option for it to be returned to the kitchen for a refund. Have a beer but skip the food

tl:dr: Had to leave after waiting 2 hours for food. Emails to the establishment regarding the experience ignored. ------ My sisters and I booked the festive menu for 4 people for Monday 23rd December. We were asked to email over which courses we planned on ordering in advance, which we did, and requested a quiet room as one of my sisters suffers from migraines. We had also emailed ahead asking about wheelchair access, but received no response. We also received no response to emails regarding dietary requirements. On arrival we were told that we'd "Unfortunately arrived at the same time as a table of 10 and a table of 12". Early red flags that we wished we had heeded. We were seated around 6:30pm and after a rather inappropriate 30 minute wait we received our drinks. Despite being seated in a quiet room, the door leading to the room slammed every time it shut, banging loudly every time staff came in or out. 50 minutes after we'd been seated I enquired as to when we should expect to receive our starters. One hour after arriving our starters arrived and, once we had finished these, so began another long wait. We asked multiple times for updates as to how much longer we should expect to wait for our food, but on each occasion no one came back to us. Another hour passed, two hours since first being seated, and we had still not received our main meals. Despite the fact we had emailed our orders in advance and pre-booked the table, we were still waiting at 8:30pm for our main meals. As my sister was now beginning to feel unwell and could not wait any longer, as well as the rest of us being now tired, hungry and fed up from waiting, I went to inform the wait staff that my party was leaving as my sisters got their coats. The main bar area was chaos. A young man ran past me, out of breath and holding plates of food, saying he'd be with me soon. Another young lady came to the bar, stressed and out of breath, and in a panic said she'd also be with me soon. The atmosphere was tense and overwhelming. I'm not sure what issues were going on behind the scenes, but the team was clearly stressed, overworked and understaffed. It was actually appalling the conditions these young people were left to operate under. Eventually I managed to talk to someone and received a verbal apology. We were not charged for the food and drinks that did turn up - and I wouldn't have expected to have been - and left. Frustratingly we were told that we could not be reimbursed our £10 deposit. I live in London and only manage to see my family every 4-6 months or so. When I do come home my sisters and I meet up for a family meal. It's a special occasion for all of us and requires a lot of pre-planning particularly as one of my sisters has two young children and the other two unfortunately suffer with long-term, chronic health conditions. This meal is the highlight of my trip home. On this occasion we looked at many restaurants specifically for a celebratory Christmas meal and were so excited at what Wig & Mitre had to offer, especially as I'm vegan and often struggle to find an establishment that caters to a plant based diet. It was therefore gutting that our evening turned out as it did and that we ended up leaving hungry, tired and disappointed. After our ordeal I reached out to Wig&Mitre via two separate email addresses and after a month - including a follow up email to give them an opportunity to respond - I've not heard a thing from them. Please don't go here. They really don't care about their customers.

Beautiful pub but absolutely dreadful service. We made a booking for a large group for a birthday celebration. Family had traveled far to meet up but we were faced with awful service. We gave a preorder for food of which we were told the meals that were missed were not on the order, they clearly were. We asked questions on the email, these were never responded to. Starters were missed and then the mains were sent in dribs and drabs. Four had been sent out of which one had to be returned due to bring cold. It took that long to receive others that gravy had to be sent back because it was cold. Then sides came out but they didn’t have the meal to eat it with. Then three mains just never came, again being told they weren’t on the email, again clearly were. We cancelled them at this point. The manager came to see us and said he actually could not find an email from us ?? Yet starters and some mains had come out !! He asked if we knew if it had been received !! Clearly it had. My nephew had spoken to someone the week prior, of which his response was I don’t work those days !! This was not what we wanted to hear or resolving the issue. We had to say if the remainder meals did not arrive in the next 10 minutes we were leaving ( less the three that still did not arrive and cancelled). He clearly has no customer service skills. The pub clearly cannot cope with large bookings and therefore should not take them. The manager did offer a free drink which some of us did have and 25% off the bill which was appreciated but the experience totally ruined the day and no free drink or money off can repair that. The poor waitress was the only one showing empathy to the situation. We can safely say we will not be returning ******************************************* Wig & mitre clearly not bothered to receive a one star review as no reply received after 4 days. !!!!

First I must say the staff at the place were lovely when we arrived if a little panicked. We booked the table in September for 6 people. We were staying in Lincoln for New Years Eve. We booked the table for 7.30pm so that we could have a few drinks before hand and then head on to the Lion and Snake. I rang on the 30th December to discuss the menu and spoke to a gentleman who said he could see our booking and that we were coming from Cleethorpes. He said we could order off the normal menu and was looking forward to seeing us. I had also emailed multiple times between September and November. When we arrived no one really spoke to us and i went to seek someone out. I spoke to a lovely lady who said that our table was booked for 6.30 and we were an hour late. I showed her the multiple emails which showed that our alloted time was 7.30pm and that we had spoke to someone the day previous. The lady's colleague then arrived and said that an email had been sent to say our booking had been changed to 6.30pm and that the kitchen had closed at 7.00pm. I explained and showed the lady that I had not received this email and that I had spoken to a colleague of hers the day before. She then confirmed that I had not been sent the email changing times. She went down stairs and spoke to the chef, where my wife and the rest of the party heard him say "this is a you problem not a me problem". She then came back up to me and said that we could have a main course. We ordered quickly off the normal menu. 3 had fish and chips and 3 had chicken and veg. We then had 3 desserts. The mains were okay, the desserts were poor. We ate the food and then left pretty promptly. In reality it caused a bit of stress and made us cut our meal short. We said everything was fine. It was extremely quiet for a New Year, but every where was

The place itself is always beautiful, the beer was good and the staff friendly. This was meant to be a nice meal on Xmas Eve but the food was pretty awful. We booked a table for Friday 20th booked online . Checked emails to confirm my booking only to find msg which read. . Please note this booking is not yet confirmed I phoned the following morning only to be answered by a less than interested person that they were busy and hadn't had time to check their emails 🤷🏼‍♂️ This should have been a warning sign! When we arrived at 5.00 we found one available to ask where our table was! Went upstairs and was eventually seated in a room that was empty all bar one couple. When we received our menus it was not the Festive menu I was expecting. When querying this I was told I should have read the small print which explains that you needed to book this menu in October and pay £10 deposit!!!! I explained I never saw thus info on the website only to be rebuked by this so called waiter ...that in that i should have called in to collect a broucher... I explained it was a spare of the moment decision.! There was couple of men who arrived after us and were seated near us one of them smelled so bad of BO it made us feel sick ...as there was an empty restaurant we asked to move however the surly waited explained ALL the other tables were booked but we saw NO reservations on those table's! When our meal arrived my risotto was disgusting I couldn't eat it ....I've tasted better baby food. One good point it the waitess/manger who noticed my uneaten meal and asked if there was anything wrong , thanks to her we were offered money back for my uneaten meal. A beautiful atmospheric building needs better management...don't go until this happens.

We had a table booked for tonight (21/12/25) myself and my wife tried to call on numerous occasions over the past couple of weeks last Saturday 14th December we actually drove from where we live which is an 36 mile round trip to speak with someone regarding our booking to which we had paid a £50 deposit for! When we attended the establishment it was loud and busy but we tried to speak with a member of staff who told us to go upstairs to discuss the issues once upstairs we were told to go downstairs we told the lady that we were told to go here because of the laptop she went to speak with what we thought was a manager called Rick who was absolutely disgusting he was foul mouthed and was very rude he didn’t want to help and the girl was told to get our number so somebody could call us we are still awaiting the phone call and we will not be attending tonight Rick throughly put us off. we are down £50 and a 36 mile round trip a terrible experience and we didn’t even sit down for a drink or food. A side note to all this is that apparently the phones are down and don’t work or haven’t for sometime we left a couple of messages as to the reasoning behind travelling because we hadn’t heard anything back from anyone at the wig and mitre. Absolutely shocking and cannot believe a place that is normally well regarded was this bad.

A great venue, with real character, let down by two major factors. Over half of the main meals were unavailable due to having sold out, despite it being Friday 20th Dec and plenty more bookings after us being disappointed. Despite politely asking whether this would affect a later booking I had on the Saturday, we were met by poor and condescending staff who claimed, “of course it will be affected, what do you expect us to do…”. Ensuring you have enough supplies for your expected bookings would be better. Second group booking cancelled.

My two choices were off the menu at 5.30 or should I say 6.10 when our order was taken and we eventually received our food at 6.50. The food itself was incredibly ordinary. We love the sticky toffee pudding although we have to say it varies in quality. The pie with chicken was delicious. The spices on the nuts are not my taste. I had the feeling these spices where not the intended spices. They don’t match with nuts. The pie of the day - pork, cider and something else was delicious along with veg, mash and gravy 😍 I would recommend the food served here based on this visit.

My husband has been diagnosed with diverticulitis. He is experiencing a flare up and has to eat bland but tasty food. Today we needed lunch on our way to Hull from Peterborough. We chose the Wig and Mitre because they had a fish dish on the menu and I liked the sound of the vegetarian option. My husband explained to Richard, the barman, that he needed plain fish and mashed potatoes with gravy. The chef, Fletcher, offered him grilled haddock with mashed potato and cauliflower. Richard apologised for the lack of colour in the dish but my husband was delighted with his meal. It was tasty but unlikely to irritate the inflammation. I chose the Turmeric-Roasted Cauliflower Steak with spiced potatoes, chimichurri, pomegranate seeds & harissa coconut yoghurt. This was amazing. The ‘steak’ was huge but well cooked. The combination of tastes, textures and colours was delicious and satisfying. For dessert, I had Coconut and Lime Panna Cotta, with mixed fruit compote, biscotti & mint. The biscotti was a little hard so I soaked it in the compote. The panna cotta was soft and wobbly with a mild coconut taste. The compote was sweet and sharp. It was lovely to have a dessert that was created in the kitchen, not bought in.

Fantastic pub/restaurant in the heart of old Lincoln. it was so good we ate there both nights we were in the city. Traditional but smart styling, interesting menu very well cooked and presented plus friendly, professional staff. Couldn't have asked for more.

Only popped in a couple of times for a drink but absolutely love this pub. Small intimate, cosy, bags of atmosphere. Could happily spend an afternoon there relaxing and just enjoying the vibe. Would like to go back to try the menu.

What a huge disappointment. We had booked a table, no problem. We ordered our drinks; bottle of wine, pint of beer and a zero alcohol beer, no problem. Then we put our food order in. The waitress came back to tell us there was no crab on sourdough toast so two of us changed our choice... again only for her to come back to say there was only one scotch egg (ordered by someone else in the group) so changed order again. Then the main course order. The waitress came back...no sea bream, no honey roast ham, no flat iron half chicken (three out of four not available). We were never told things weren't available (or even what was available) when we were given the menus or the order was taken. Apparently the waitress was only finding out what wasn't available when she entered the choices into the till/order system. I'm sure you can imagine that we were not impressed; it was the birthday meal for one of the four. We decided to not have anything so finished the beers, put the screw lid on the remaining wine and said we were leaving. We paid for the drinks (best part of £30) and left. As I said, it was one of if not the most disappointing restaurant/bar experiences we've ever had.

Wendy and I were married at Lincoln registry office and had arranged a wedding breakfast at the Wig and Mitre. The Castle and cathedral is a wonderful setting. Tina had been so attentive and professional in organising the meal and the private room for 20 of us. She made everything run very smoothly. The food was excellent of course. I cant thank Tina and the staff enough for making this a truly memorable occasion. I give the venue and staff 10 out of ten for the whole affair, from initial contact right through to the wonderful day we had. I will add photos when everybody has sent them in to me. Thank you so much for a wonderful day Tina.

We literally fell across this place. We had only arrived in Lincoln about an hour before. We received a warm welcome by the manager and the young lady behind the bar. This is a comfortable place with a nice atmosphere. It is not rowdy. The beer is good and the food is excellent. Very pleased. Thoroughly recommend. We will visit again. The food is much better than the usual pub menu. Well done to the staff in the kitchen Ollie and Fletcher and Hannah and the young lady behind the bar

So, I came from London not knowing my surroundings much (typical tourist, I know) and, on the scenic walk back from the castle on Steep Hill (caution: it's actually VERY steep), I stumbled almost literally onto the gorgeous pub that is The Wig& Mitre. I cannot recommend it enough, the food was fantastic, the local hospitality was so warm and friendly and the drinks very reasonably priced. That night happened to be a pub quiz, so if you happen to be there for it, do get involved! The quiz master and all the staff are absolutely wonderful! Can't wait to go back there again!!!

I recently enjoyed visiting York, a charming city with stunning architecture. On the way back home, I stopped at Lincoln. After enjoying the sights at Lincoln, I stopped by to see my sister-in-law, who is expecting next month. It was a delightful visit, likely the last before she welcomes her new baby. We decided to cap off the visit with a drink and some nibbles at a local pub. Upon arrival, the bar staff instructed us to head to the second floor and choose any unreserved table. We found a cosy corner, perfect for relaxing. However, our initial contentment was soon disrupted. A bartender on the second floor unexpectedly shouted across the room to acknowledge our arrival, startling us and other patrons. After waiting about 5-10 minutes without receiving menus, I approached the bar to inquire, only to be accused of rudeness for not properly checking in upon selecting our table. Despite my attempts to clarify the misunderstanding, citing the instructions we received downstairs, the bartender argued rather than explain the establishment's policies and assisted us. Not wanting to cause any stress for my pregnant sister-in-law, we decided to leave the pub. Having travelled extensively across the EU, the US, and other regions, I've never encountered such an unwelcoming experience simply for following seating instructions. Travellers visiting this pub should be cautious of the bearded bartender, whose lack of professionalism and courtesy significantly dampened our experience. ______________________________________ Thank you for your reply. I truly appreciate your response and understand the importance of supporting your team. I just wanted to clarify that at no point did we intend to cause any disruption or misunderstandings. When we arrived, the bartender downstairs didn't instruct us to check with anyone regarding seating. A gentleman at the lower bar kindly informed us that we could grab a table and make ourselves comfortable, and that we would be served. The table we chose wasn’t dirty, though it was missing two sets of forks, which we didn’t think was a problem. If we did make any mistake in terms of seating, we would have greatly appreciated a polite approach, perhaps explaining, “Sorry, this table isn’t quite ready yet,” or something along those lines. That would have been helpful and easily understood. But he didn't, he just ignored us until we approached him at the bar after waiting for 5-10 minutes as I have mentioned before. He could politely tell us to move elsewhere and do not cause any issues by just nicely explaining the situation, but again, he failed by raising his voice and getting in to argument. While I understand the need to support your staff, we were left with the impression that we weren’t welcome, and that is the main concern I wanted to raise. I hope this feedback can be useful for future situations. Feel free reviewing CCTV, or provide me with the phone number for further explanation Thank you again for your time and consideration.

Visited recently after our daughters graduation, We booked in advance which was wise as they were very busy. Food was excellent, I had the ham,egg and chips but it was more like a gammon steak and came with a delicious pineapple chutney. Service was excellent - nothing was too much trouble. A perfect end to an amazing day.

Had a lovely experience at The Wig last night, I especially liked my ham, egg and chips which was more like gammon, a juicy, tender piece of meat rather than slices of cold ham, served with a pineapple and onion relish, perfect! My partner had beautiful fish n chips, also fabulous Great staff, particularly Dawn who found time to chat even though she’d had an extremely busy day as it had been graduation day in Lincoln!

Really enjoyed the food here (Sunday lunch menu). Very well presented and cooked. The service was good and very friendly toward the dog that was with us. It was a wet day when we went, which was a pity as we couldn't fully enjoy the attractive location on the Brayford Pool side. The price was maybe a smidgin above that of standard pub grub, but this experience was much better than standard fare and made the meal good value. We would go again and would recommend to others.

We arrived at nosey Parker and we ordered our food and drinks as soon as we arrived, we received our starter not too long after and it was lovely. However that’s when it went downhill we sat waiting for about 1hr for the mains to come out ,just for the sides to come out beforehand. We continued to wait and about 20 minutes later the mains came out after one of the team members went to see where our food was. As we were sat eating our food a younger staff member came up to us to ask if everything was okay with the food and didn’t even give anyone chance to reply before walking away. We were also promised some fresh onion rings but never received them.

We had been out for dinner and then a drink at mailbox, and decided to go for a drink at craft. In the cue, as we got to the front the bouncers took us to the side and said we aren’t going to be let in because they “have us on camera doing cocaine in an alley”. We did not, any cameras would see we walked straight from mailbox to craft, no alleys whatsoever. I have heard from a few other people that this isn’t the first time craft have done this. Seems like they pick and choose who they let in, not sure on what basis this is decided. But it is so wrong on so many levels, won’t be returning and will be letting people i know, that they do this and not to go there.

One of the best morning rituals we had in Lincoln. From the atmosphere, the amazing /friendly staff, to the variety in the menu this place is a must stop while in Lincoln. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed coming here daily for our two weeks in the UK. Scarlet and her family made our time here feel like going to a friend’s place for a truly great cafe experience. I indulged in their various speciality menu items in our time here including Honeycomb, Irish Crème, and Amaretto lattes; additionally their espresso drinks are crafted with great attention to tempt the taste buds. Be sure to also partake in their savory paninis, wraps and ( my recommendation) toasties. All of which can be enjoyed in a cozy setting to meet with friends or just people watch. Coffee Culture offers a fantastic experience and stopping point for a day out in town. The staff will make you feel like family every time you visit.
