Went for Afternoon Tea and we were really excited as the restaurant looks amazing, we frequent the bar regularly and the staff are always so friendly and helpful. Sadly we were actually disappointed with the afternoon tea, the sandwiches were dry as they had obviously made in advance. There was quite a few tiny little cakes which were pleasant but certainly no WOW effect and very middle of the road! Nothing else savoury apart from the sandwiches compared to other nearby hotels. It basically felt like a very ordinary paint by numbers afternoon tea with no extra thought or effort to reflect its amazing surroundings. I wouldnt recommend it and won't be back again for afternoon tea...though the cocktails in the bar are amazing! Just put some effort and imagination into your afternoon tea...share a photo on Facebook and we will try again!

I wish I’d bothered to read the reviews before booking this for a friends big birthday as it really put a dampener on a good night. The service was just so ridiculously slow. After over an hour waiting for starters we asked for a complimentary bread basket to be told absolutely yes, but not complimentary. Apparently the delay on service in an almost deserted restaurant was due to us being a large table (a table of 7!) who booked this over a month ago. Quite frankly if you cannot staff your tables you shouldn’t be accepting bookings. The food was lovely but the wait and the customer service was completely unacceptable. I don’t mind paying expensive prices when the service reflects that however the team they have working don’t have any customer service training and don’t care. The fact they charge an automatic service charge on top is almost laughable considering how abysmal it is. There are an abundance of good quality independent restaurants in the bail so my advice is just to avoid this place at all costs.

First of all it is a little confusing when trying to write a review about The Antlers Restaurant on TripAdvisor when it is still using the old Grille Restaurant !!! My partner and myself visited midweek and in the early evening using a Christmas present voucher from my daughters. This entitled us to an allowance towards our meal and a free bottle of house wine. I have to say that we thought the white house wine was in fact very nice and well chosen by the restaurant. We enjoyed our starter and also the main course though I did have a slight issue with the steak being overcooked. We were well attended though we could see that the larger attended tables were having issues (still) with slow service. I can only comment and give 5☆ on our personal experience which despite the minor issue that was resolved by our waiter Henry. He was very attentive to our needs and informative regarding the food and wine. It is fine dining but we would perhaps give it a little more time for those little issues to be resolved before returning for a special occasion.

Someone has done a wonderful renovation of this hotel probably costing millions. However the staff consist of youngsters with zero communication skills, zero manners and zero desire to serve clients. I took my two daughters and son there for dinner. The bar is waiter service only and drinks were slammed down with a bad attitude. I went into the restaurant to enquire about our table and five or six young staff were hanging around the bar in there and totally ignored ne standing there like a lemon. I decided to leave rather than endure anymore and one of my daughters also came with me. The other two stayed for dinner which cost £120 without drinks and they said the service was slow and poor but that the food was good. I will never go back and am amazed that so many people were there accepting this level of service.

What happened to this place? This was the only place to get food after a night out prior to 2015. Back after 7 years and the food has gone so far south that I preferred a local "no name" place. Quality plus energy needs to be re-established.

We were staying at the White Hart in Lincoln over Christmas 2022 so we booked the Christmas Dinner/Lunch here. It looked very nice with a substantial multi-course meal with nice options. We also at breakfast here each day. Overall, it was very good, but uneven. The food for the Christmas meal was mostly excellent but not entirely. Starters - a goat cheese start and liver pate - were excellent. Main courses which we got were lamb with potato dauphinoise and green beans, and roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and mashed potatoes. The lamb was outstanding, as were the potato dauphinoise, Yorkshire, and the gravy for both dishes. However, the roast beef was overcooked and a bit tough, so the meat was mediocre. The excellent gravy and the accompaniments made it nicer, though. Dessert, Christmas pudding, was excellent. Two of us had Manhattans to start, and these were very good. One of us had a martini, also very good. The bartenders did a good job with the cocktails and knew what they were doing. Two of us also had an excellent local cask ale with the food. The meal started with a pleasant cocktail time when waiting to be seated. The restaurant overall is quite nice, attractive, and comfortable, but not special. The hotel is old but unfortunately they modernised the lobby and dining area and this detracts from the character. Service was very mixed. The servers were all working very hard and were mostly very friendly, attentive, and doing a good job. However, it was clear that they were understaffed, and later servers told us this was in fact the case. Things were a bit slow and the presentation uneven, not very smooth, which seemed to be due mostly to the lack of adequate staff. Overall, it was very good, and as we did not plan to do much that day other than the meal,and had good drink and food, we did not mind the long time that the meal took, but it did take a long time. We had a very enjoyable time but it was not perfect and it was quite expensive, a bit overpriced for the overall experience. Breakfast was similar - inadequate but good staff, good food.

Sunday morning visit after breakfast, so it was quiet at the time. Clean and airy, the bar staff were very friendly and helpful. I've been here many years before, and it has kept up the high standards

We’ve just had a beautiful meal for Valentine’s Day at the restaurant. The staff were friendly and attentive, good quality food and wine and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be going back

Great place to eat, awful place to work.

We’re now aware of the staffing issues and this was evident in our visit as the food took a while to be served and we had to chase the pudding, however staying at the hotel meant we weren’t in a rush. The food was lovely, although overpriced for what it is. The staff were excellent, clearly overworked and under pressure but our interactions with them were positive. Claire and Bethany were friendly and down to earth and should be commended for their customer service and work they do

What staff were there were polite, busy and doing their best when we called pre-booked as a family for Sunday dinner, but there was no-where near enough of them to serve/wait efficiciently. Consequently there were unacceptable waits of up to 40 minutes between courses. The food was only poor to average in quality and the cool dining room meant for a poor, uncomfortable ambience.

Where to begin….went for a celebratory birthday meal for five people. The service was akin to faulty towers but not in a funny way. The staff were clueless - bringing food and actually admitting they didn’t know what it was. Food took an age to come and some dishes were cold and/or inedible. We waited about 40 minutes for starters and then another 20 for the main courses which all came at different times. Very disappointing all round and certainly won’t be returning or recommending to others.

Staff were rather unpleasant, fairly unhelpful and at times a bit rude. Food slightly made up for it but was okay at best. Will not be returning.

We visited for lunch and on arrival there were only two other diners in the restaurant. The greeter said she would check with the chef if we could be accommodated! Once we had a table, it took a long while before we were offered menus or drinks when there were only four people in the whole restaurant. The only other bookings appeared to be for a few afternoons teas, maybe 11 or 12 people in total. The main course was served hot and was delicious so no complaints at all. After waiting a very long time for the plates to be cleared I had to ask a waitress who was busy scrolling on her phone to clear the table and bring some desserts. On arrival, the sticky toffee pudding was almost cold and the toffee sauce full of unmelted muscovado sugar. We were then presented with a bill for the full amount, not the lunchtime special price. This was soon amended. It’s such as shame as there were plenty of staff but they appeared to be untrained, uninterested and without any direction. This is letting down both the kitchen and the hotel’s reputation. Considering there were a handful of customers food was very slow coming from kitchen. People nearby waiting for afternoon tea were still waiting when we left. Just not good enough and customers will go elsewhere for a better experience. The new management needs to take note and immediate action.

Calamity is the best word I can use….arrived at 6.30 for our reservation. 10 mins later waitress asked if we were ready to order…I reminded her we hadn’t placed a drinks order yet…10 mins later she came and took the drinks order and we waited and waited…and waited ….the wine came within 5mins …..20 minutes later beers arrived …one beer was cider instead of IPA as the waitress had little knowledge about either the food or what brands of beer they stock….Placed our meal choices….three of four starters came out 20 minutes later…one dish was requested without bacon as my wife doesn’t eat meat….it had bacon in so was sent back…still no fourth starter….beware if you order scallops as the portion is just 2…(only just plural then!)….10 minutes later the third dish came back without the bacon….still no forth starter…..we had at this time been in the restaurant for 1 hour and 20 minutes….. I complained to the manager and said we were leaving….the forth stater finally arrived ….the manager agreed to take 2 starters and one beer off the bill…..however our evening was ruined and we had to go to a nearby pub to get a meal…I had high expectations of this place as it is an iconic Lincoln hotel and restaurant…sorely disappointed.

The restaurant had only 3 tables of diners when we arrived.Lots of staff looked like they were stood around doing nothing.Took us over 30 mins to receive our starter which we had to send back as it was cold. The main arrived and was delicious and warm. We did not get time for a dessert as the service was so slow and we were due at The Cathedral for a show . My partner asked that they wave the charge for the starters as a gesture of good will which they did as I also had to leave the restaurant to get cash as their card machine was down. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Lovely staff... food was good but salad was a buit limited in content. Rather a lot of lettuce and croutons I would have liked some tomato and onion or some other salad ingredients.

Visited Lincoln Cathedral with a friend...wish we had stayed here.... Had supper in the grille.. I had their fillet of pork..yesterday evening (5/10)...it was delicious...all cooked from fresh and well presented...followed by 'milk & honey' dessert... Staff were very attentive and helpful. We stayed in this excellent hotel for my husband's birthday. This hotel is in an excellent location near the Castle and the Cathedral, the rooms are large with a modern bathroom. The Grill is where meals are taken, the breakfasts, hot or cold are varied, delicious and generous. The staff are friendly and efficient, and helped to make my husband's birthday special. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel

Hey look, I don't like giving negative reviews. Everyone has an off day and maybe tonight was an off day. 7pm, party of 6. Place was empty. First guy we met was professional and pleasant. Showed us to a booth and got drinks for two of us as we waited a short time for the remainder of the party. Party all sat down, and orders taken. Starters arrived and wrong salad brought in. Yes there was an offer for a replacement salad but it should not happen on a quiet night. Starters were OK. Nothing special. Main courses. Long delay to get all 6 plated out. Steaks were neither good meat or cooked well. Small portions of chips. It's all about first impressions. These were not good. I'm hoping it was a rough night rather than this is the normal service. The food is divine! I had goats cheese starter, and braised beef main, just ice cream for pudding. A good selection for all available. You will have to book for a Saturday evening. Book early to choose where you want to sit, as sitting in the middle of the restaurant is not ideal, people come past you on the way to toilets. Only thing that let this down was the service. Popped in for lunch today. We both had the Grille Beef Burger and it was fantastic. One of the best burgers we've ever had. Started off with pre-appetizer of marinated olives, green and flavorful. Appetizer was citrus cured smoked salmon and was a wonderful start to the meal. For entrees my partner and I ordered the ribeye and cod loin. Both were very well presented, but the cod lacked a bit of flavor. Will go back for another dinner.

We went back for our sons 1st Wedding Anniversary after enjoying the Thursday night deal which was good value. What a disappointment! We were a party of 7 and ordered rib eye steaks and the Poussin sharing meal at £32 for two. Be aware on line there are two menus. The one is for the bar meal the other is for the restaurant and there is a big difference in price. We had two great steaks but about 5 chips come in a cup on a piece of wood. The third steak was so fatty we complained only to be told by the poor waitress who was nearly crying that the chef was refusing to replace the steak. She appeared to be being intimidated in the workplace by the chef and was clearly struggling. We explained it wasn't her fault. The poussin was cut in half and hardly any meat on it which is a far cry from the half roast chicken on the Thursday deal. We were told there was a half hour wait for it to be cooked from scratch. So we were offered bread for the table in the meantime at only £17.50 or focaccia at £2.50 each which we ordered two. This arrived burnt. We had to take my son on somewhere else to eat as he was still hungry. The meal was over £125 so felt this was a lot to pay to have to go elsewhere to give my son some dinner

I found the room a good size and the hotel room was quite there was tea and coffee making facilities and a packet of biscuits the view was ok It had a full size bath if you want a good soak

We came for a meal having pre booked weeks before. Unfortunately in the afternoon of our visit many people booked a meal in the Grille so every table was booked by 5.30pm with no thought of whether the kitchen or serving staff could cope. They could not. Poor staff training as no-one told the girl taking the huge number of last minute bookings that extra staff and food would need to be brought in. With a big event at the cathedral which apparently the White hart did not know about, only being 100 metres away, no relationship must be in place. We waited 1 hour for the starters being served by the manager with several items on each dish having run out such as pickled cucumber. Another 45 minutes wait for the mains. No pork left. What is the point in booking? Will not go again.

Returned to Lincoln Grille for Sunday lunch. Excellent food with meat sourced from Fosters the best butcher in Lincoln, good price but service could have been a little more attentive.

White Hart sits at the top of steep hill in Lincoln it’s one of the oldest parts of Lincoln almost next door to Cathedral with lovely one of a kind shops. We were there for lunch which turned out to be a delight. Staff were helpful and friendly and the food was gorgeous everything from a super crab & tagliatelle dish to a cheeseburger with style. As well as the main menu there is a lunch time special 2 dishes for £14.95 , a gluten free menu and yummy puds. We’ll definitely be going back soon.

We were wanting to go elsewhere (somewhere recommended by our hotel) but it - and everything else in Bailgate - was closed.And we're thrilled they were! Grille was the only place we could find that was open and what a stroke of luck that was. Our meal was superb!Service impeccible, location great, everything was perfect.After our meal the waiter invited us to go up to the rooftop to view the cathedral at night... it was wonderful.

Called in here before attending an event at the cathedral (The Snowman) about 5 ish. Really quiet but did get busier as the time went on. I chose the goats cheese salad and my daughter the sausage and mash. Both were delicious, and the sausage and mash was a sizeable portion. We finished off with plum crumble for me and pear bake well tart for my daughter. Again both delicious. Attentive good service throughout. Really good price too when I got the bill 12.95 for 2 courses so came to under £25. Really pleased with that.

Poor rib-eye steak, if it was a rib-eye, very thin (1/4”- 1/2”) small size portion of approx 4-6oz in weight and not very tasty. Won’t be going back here in a hurry. Overpriced for sure!

Friend booked a table for 6 (3 couples) for NYE dinner. Had a bad experience here last year during the Christmas market but gave the benefit of the doubt. First indication of the disappointment to come was the number of empty tables as we walked in. We were hungry so ordered some ‘pre-starters’ which took 20 mins to arrive (why bother offering pre-starters if they take so long to arrive?) and cocktails which took even longer to arrive. Starters were bland, particularly the mushroom pate which was ice-cold, devoid of any noticeable seasoning or flavour and served with stale walnuts and a bizarrely sweet apple purée. Most of us opted for steaks and these were mercifully well cooked and came with bog-standard accoutrements a la 1970’s (unseasoned grilled tomato and mushroom, ceramic cup of anaemic chips). Had to request steak knives, which surely shouldn’t be necessary at a ‘gille’ restaurant. When the waitress forgot to bring a fork (as requested) she tutted, wandered over to a colleague, muttered something and flounced into the back leaving us to try to get the attention of another of her colleagues to provide a fork to eat our rapidly cooling meals. Decided to skip dessert and make an early escape. Service throughout was very slow and staff seemed not only disinterested but actively hostile to our presence. The highlight for me was reading the introduction from the chef, Marcus Mumby, on the first page of the menu. Full of unwarranted self-regard and gloriously lacking in anything approaching self-awareness. The illustrious Mr. Mumby may be a legend in his own lunch-time but if I were you I wouldn’t let him anywhere near yours!

Thank you for a lovely dinner yesterday, my husband had a T-bone steak and I had sirloin and it seriously tasted amazing. Service very good too. Definitely come back here.

A group of nine of us dined together, and chose from an appealing range of dishes which were beautifully cooked and well served. Prices a little above average, but good value.

We were overdue a return visit to The Lincoln Grille and following a recommendation, really pleased we did-variety of steaks and sides with selected drink available for £15/head. One of the best rib eyes we've had. Value, quality, ambience and very well mannered service-well done.

we went for a day out in Lincoln on Saturday 20th October, after going to the castle we decided on a pub lunch so we had a wander around and decided to try the White Hart pub but while walking towards it I noticed the Grille restaurant and even better noticed the very reasonable priced lunch menu. so decided to go in here instead. we were offered to chose our table so had the one near the large doors. the décor was right up my street. though the nicely coloured chair I sat on did have a few stains..the waiter came within a few minutes to take our drink order but we were also ready to order food.I opted for the root vegetable with apricots, blue cheese and crumble pie and my partner had the pork, both came with new potatoes.I'm not vegetarian but I liked the sound of the pie and it was absolutely delicious.While eating, the fire alarm started going off which meant we all had to stand across the road for a few minutes, a bit annoying as having to get all your belongings and then go back in to food that had been left unattended .all the staff were lovely.

We couldn’t order off the cocktail menu as one of the bar staff had gone sick and the bar was too busy. To make up for this we got the first round of drinks free.We had a mixture of steaks, chicken and lamb. The food was ok but nothing to shout about. We did have starters and desserts but to be honest the food was very forgettable. We had a bottle of Malbec which was ok. Overall just disappointed with the cocktails as they are normally very good at the White Hart.

Great food and service.Olives in the starter were a bit small but there was loads of them!Delicious 12oz Rib Eye cooked perfectly.Nice wine list that was just enough for the variety of dishes.Told on entry that two dishes had run out but there was still plenty to choose from.Very friendly and helpful staff.

The food was lovely but the service left a lot to be desired. Unlike most restaurants where your server advises of any specials board or how special offers are to be interpreted from the menu, this certainly was not the case with our server. Our food was slow to arrive but was well presented and very tasty. However, clearing of the plates was slow and the server made a point of stating she “couldn’t carry away four plates.” The deserts arrived and again was nicely presented and tasty but not sure it was worth the price charged. However, when ou are expecting to get two courses for a set fee , you don’t mind. However, when you receive the bill and then get told the choices made were not included in the deal, and the manager is called to explain, it really brings it home that the service provided was not as expected.Also take care when entering the White Hart and approaching the bar - sarcasm is in abundance from the bar staff when asked about food
