Very disappointing. Probably the worst pub in Lincoln by a mile. Owners (especially the women if that's what you want to call her) very rude and narcissistic, looks like she's on something all the time as her attitude is up and down like a yo-yo, I'm not sure if that's just her or what ever she's into clearly... her boyfriend (the actual owner) is brainwashed by her so he lets her run the pub into the ground. Pub is dirty, toilets disgusting (dead flies the lot) beer is chemically tasting, don't even go near the Guinness unless you want bits in your teeth unless you're hungry. Rear door is held open with a 30 year old broken speaker and garden hoses. Bar maids don't even collect glasses as they're too busy leaving the bar unoccupied and smoking it up outside like it's Hyde park. All this adding up to a dead pub with hardly any customers. It's like they're running this place into the ground, it could have good potential however due to the owners this place is barely afloat. Pool table takes your money and doesn't even give you a game. Friday night must consist of 10 people if that. All I can say is that it's such a shame, unfortunately the owners cannot manage a pub and it's customer base. I even heard the bar workers asking for narcotics. Stay away, there's 100 more better pubs in Lincoln then here.

Went to the Fox with 5 friends (couples). This pub is close to home however we dont tend to go in there often. The night started well, drinks were flowing and we were having a good time. We overheard one of the bar staff asking for illegal substances, one of the group made a passing comment, and another lady (presumably the owners wife) stormed upto the table stating she'd be "watching us like a hawk". We calmly explained that we thought she was directing her hawk like vision at the wrong group and maybe she should assemble her nest a tad closer to home... She was clearly and unfortunately intoxicated herself (professional for working behind a bar, I know) and demanded that we must leave after our next drink. Despite working behind the bar, she was outside drinking and smoking most the night, one of the group asked her friends for a lighter, to which her and her group said "do not answer"- as if we werent human or present. We are local people and felt personally attacked by the lady's mannerisms . Especially baring in mind she was a senior member of staff (owners wife!) We put plenty of hard earned money in the pub tonight and were left feeling like criminals, we even volunteered to be searched to prove our innocence, which was promptly refused. All we wanted was a few nice drinks at our local pub for a change and were left feeling like outsiders by individuals (staff) who are clearly incapacitated and incapable of deciphering between drug users and young working class persons trying to enjoy a drink. At the end of the night I went to talk to the actual owner about how we'd been treated, expecting some clarity and lord forgive me for asking but perhaps an apology. Baring in mind this man is supposed to own several pubs, he seemed to have absolutely nil sense of customer service and even though he wasnt in the pub most of the night night was talking to me like I was in the wrong, solely due to his intoxicated wife (staff member) giving him an extremely one sided version of events - which were totally incorrect. One of our group didn't appreciate the way he spoke to me, and was rude back - as anyone with a backbone would be after the way we were treated tonight. He raised his voice and declared us all barred, despite me talking to him politely and calmly, all he was worried about was that he'd had a long drive, not that us as a group have lives, problems, and jobs too. Its unfortunate that a pub in such a good location treats its local punters so poorly after spending a small fortune in their unkept pub. Other than us, there were two people in the pub - I now understand why. I appreciate there are two sides to every story, however other bar staff have since said we were treated unfairly and that the owner and wife were extremely rude to us as a group. Its disgusting and people like this should not be running a pub. Until new ownership is found we wouldn't dream of returning even if the man (who'd through no fault of ours had a long drive) thought with a level head for a second and decided to unbar us. We are young couples who felt discriminated against through totally poor judgement tonight and what was supposed to be a great night out with friends for a change has been morphed into a poor display of total incompetence by its own owners. This pub is always closing down/re-opening and with owners as such it would come as no suprise to happen again. Hope new ownership comes and we can make the Fox a proper local.

Menu looks good, lots of options and reasonably priced but sadly the food wasn’t great. I had a sizzling chicken dish, the veg was absolute mush and the seasoning had just been sprinkled on top. Another dinner so overcooked and some of it burnt it left a bitter taste. The last dinner we had was great but this has put us off going back

I'd give it a 5/5 for the food. Great prices, large portions and good service....it was Halloween weekend too! But I'd give it a 3/5 for the decor and clientele. Fair bit of swearing going on (had children with us). But would definitely go again.

Since finding this lovely pub we always enjoy our evening meal here. Just had a wonderful weeks holiday in a cottage in South Hykeham so we came here for 4 evening meals and Sunday Lunch. I had Chicken Diane, twice, cod and chips, Southern Fried Chicken and the roast beef Sunday Lunch. Every meal cooked to perfection served with a smile. Tony had mixed grill, it was huge and he really enjoyed it, excellent, Cod and chips, the larger portion, 16oz Gammon, another excellent meal, chicken and mushroom pie and roast pork for Sunday lunch. Desserts we had ice cream, Apple and Rhubarb crumble with custard I had syrup sponge and ice cream. We truly enjoyed every meal, the kindness of staff and we will return for sure. Thank you everyone for making us so welcome.

Popped in for a quick dinner. Staff weren’t overly friendly and we weren’t greeted on arrival. Food was pretty good and great value for money. There is plenty of parking too. Probably wouldn’t do back, but not a bad meal.

Cant comment on the food as I was unable to eat. I walked in at two mins to eight and asked if they were still serving food. The lady turned her head and looked at the clock which was showing eight o’clock and replied, sorry no we stop serving food at eight. What terrible customer service. Just lost a potentially good customer who is working locally in the area for a couple of months. Well done.

Booked a table for Sunday Lunch so we could go the day we arrived at the cottage. A warm welcome and the meal was just perfect. Hot and tasty, cooked to perfection. We also ate there Wednesday and Thursday. We enjoyed every meal, home cooked chips, real mashed potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding, the roast beef was home cooked too. So happy to have found a real pub where we will go on our next visit to the cottage. A big Thank You to all the wonderful staff.

Great find!! We really struggle as I'm vegetarian and my husband is celiac. The chips were GF which is rare and he had a few choices too. Could do with a veggie lasagne on menu (Just my opinion as it's my fave,) one of best places we've been to for a while. Excellent service. Food was quick too. Great oldy worldy pub too!

Firstly, please don't confuse this pub/restaurant with The Fox and Hounds in Willingham by Stow. Tripadvisor calls that pub "The Fox and Hounds, Lincoln" - but it is it is a totally different pub. Very confusing. The pub I am reviewing here is in North Hykeham, and is actually nearer to Lincoln than the one in Willingham by Stow - so the Tripadvisor description of the other pub as "The Fox and Hounds, Lincoln" is very misleading and inaccurate.OK... so in relation to the Fox and Hounds in NORTH HYKEHAM, LINCOLN. The first point is don't be put off by appearances. When you first walk into the pub it feels more like a local boozer where people just go to drink and watch football on the telly. But appearances can be very deceptive. The food here is absolutely fantastic. This is real home-cooked, high quality food at ridiculously low prices. The chef is obviously keen to go beyond the usual mundane pub-grub and has come up with a fantastic menu with some really innovative items that you just wouldn't expect on a standard pub menu.Being a vegetarian, I absolutely love this place. There is a multitude of choices on their vegetarian 'specials' board - and it's not just the typical boring baked potatoes and omelettes that you get in most pubs. The chef has really made an effort to come up with some fantastic veggie alternatives, which are genuinely home-cooked - not just the usual microwave rubbish that most pubs serve.Frighteningly, on a recent visit the landlady told me they were actually thinking of changing the menu and introducing a carvery (.... Aaaaghhhh!!!!... ) please don't do that,.. you already have a superb menu and serve some wonderful high quality food. Why change?!?! What this pub needs is not a new menu, but better marketing. Whenever I visit, it always seems to be nearly empty, despite being on a very busy main road with hordes of commuters driving past. When the word finally gets out about this hidden gem, people will be queuing outside to get in !!As I said at the start, don't be put off by appearances - the food is superb.

A great little pub restaurant, I come here most Friday's with my wife while the kids are at karate. It's often busy but the service is great and where always finished in time to get the kids. Here you get proper chips (not frozen ones) and the food is always great, iv never had a bad meal from here. If I was to recommend a dish Id say either the fish (whale) and chips or the braised beef in a giant Yorkshire pud (get a extra gravy boat) are two of my favourite meals also the stakes are good too. I can't coment on the desert as I'm always too full to have one . The price is very reasonable, the bill for me and the wife often only comes to around £20 for our 2 meals and two drinks. The staff are very plesant and welcoming. If your coming with a large group of people Id book tho as it gets busy if there's just two of you they normally always fit you in

My husband and I have just enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch and cannot believe previous reviews. It was served promptly by a very friendly young waitress and the presentation was eye opening. Three thick slices of beef, which could be cut through like butter, a giant homemade Yorkshire pudding, sat atop a plateful of vegetables. Roast and new potatoes, carrots, peas, cabbage and cauliflower. Gravy which was really tasty and the waitress obliged by bringing another gravy boat. Excellent value for £5.95 or £7.95 if you wanted either starter or sweet. Previous review stated food was overcooked. Mine today was cooked to perfection and certainly not soggy. Have been for evening meals before and never been disappointed so thought we would try Sunday lunch. Will definitely be going again. Trust me and go and try the Fox and Hounds yourself - I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Tried the Sunday lunch today in the hopes of finding somewhere nice for Christmas Day lunch this year. Sad to report that they definitely cater for the "cooked to death" customer. Big plate of well overcooked, soggy veg. Lamb very well done (not in a good way), huge yorkshire pud that looked lovely but was tasteless, and reheated roast potatoes. We had starters but seriously wished we hadn't. My minestrone soup was like fatty red dishwater, no sign of any veg or pasta in it. I left the whole bowl after a taste but no question from the waitress about it. My husband's pate was ok but obviously shop bought. So disappointed.

Me and my partner visited here last Tuesday, we both decided to have the sirloin steak, I had mine cooked medium and my partner had hers cooked well done, the steaks were cooked to perfection and melted in our mouths! It was served with the best homemade chips I've every tasted, fresh salad and coleslaw(which again I'm guessing was homemade). The place was busy but we didn't wait long for our food at all, and the service was excellent. We finished off by both having the lemon cheesecake, which was very tasty and again was homemade! Excellent we will be back!

We visited this place on Saturday night with friends whom had previously eaten here. They made sure that the booking was for the conservatory as this was the nicer surroundings. We ordered two mains from the 'specials board' Forrester chicken and then from the main menu, seafood platter and the mixed grill. Orders were taken quickly and although the place started filling up we didn't wait long for the mains. The portion sizes were ample, and we can't complain about the mains, which were piping hot and delicious.Desserts and hot drinks are unfortunately, where it has let the place down. In fact our friends were quite embarrassed as they had recommended the place. We had to attract the attention of the waitress for the dessert menu and to place a further drinks order, even though the place started to empty. Unfortunately, she was unable to take the drinks order ( presume under age) so we had to go the bar and collect them. We ordered two fruit crumbles, one Baileys cheesecake and a lemon biscuit base dessert ( apologies forgotten the correct name). When we asked the waitress about some of the desserts she had no knowledge of them so she had to ask the kitchen, perhaps she was new.The desserts came out separately, cheesecake and lemon dessert first and I have to say based on all the other portions sizes we had, the cold desserts seemed small in comparison, they were nothing special and it was commented that they were tasteless, in fact bothe dessert liked the same. One of the crumbles followed and was stone cold including the custard and had to be sent back, no sign of the other crumble, the waitress claimed that she thought we only order one crumble. Both crumbles then came out together. The presentation left a lot to be desired, and it looked like it had been plonked in the bowl, the crumble topping was minimal, just a bowl full of stewed fruit. However, after the complaint the new Crumble was piping hot. We order filter coffees only to be told after the order they no longer serve them, so went for hot chocolate and an Irish coffee. The Irish coffee was fine, but, the hot chocolate tasted like dish water and weak. Both were sent back and no replacement offered. We should of requested an adjustment in the bill over the dessert issue, but, paid the bill and left. The total came to around £50 ( without drinks from the bar) although, we can't grumble at the price. We would rather the food be correct and pay a little extra. We all agreed that we felt the desserts were some what of an after thought in the kitchen.Attention to details is needed on the desserts and hot drinks.

Just called in for a drink today, by happy coincidence as the Half Moon Inn was closed on a Monday. (What sort of pub closes on a Monday?!) So, further along the road we decided to give The Fox & Hounds a try as it's also a CAMRA recommended pub. There were two choices for cask ale drinkers, both from Jenning's Brewery in Cumbria. I had the Cumberland Ale and was delighted in it. Though we didn't eat today, we noticed that the boards showed a wide range of reasonably priced food. We found the pub to be warm and welcoming, the bar fairly busy with the locals, so we headed on through to the cosy lounge, We set off today with a goal of visiting the Half Moon Inn, but the Fox & Hounds easily won our return custom.

I visited The Fox & Hound last Saturday evening as a party of four from an impromptu Saturday night dinner after having been recommended the restaurant by a friend of a friend. We managed to book at table for 830pm. On arriving the car park was full – people were parking on the road! We thought this was a good sign! On walking inside we were told by the front of house at the bar that our table was not ready yet, so we ordered a drink and were then told our table was ready in the conservatory. No-one told us where this was so we made our own way and it was easy enough to find. The conservatory was full bar one table, which arrived not long after us. We pondered over the menu – which had a great variety, and lots to choose from, as well as a specials board with some good choices including an 8oz Peppered Sirloin Steak, and Marrakesh Chicken Melt. However after being left for nearly half an hour, no – one had arrived to take our order. We then noticed a waitress go over and take the order of the table of six who were seated after us. A little annoying but we’re not ones to complain, especially when we’d booked last minute – and we weren’t in a rush. However we did decided to collar her on her way out of the conservatory and ask for her to take our order. After she had done so, another table called her over and we overheard them ask where their food was, as they’d ordered at half past seven – it was now gone 9pm. We didn’t think this was very promising and did wonder how long we were going to be waiting for our food. However within 10 minutes of ordering our starters arrived, and swiftly after we had finished so did our mains. Fantastic value for money portions of good food – nothing too over the top, just really nice pub food – which at the prices they charge (10oz Sirloin & all the trimmings for £10.95,) is such good value for money. We were too full for dessert so asked for the bill, which came to a little under £60 for three starters, four main courses and a round of drinks – very reasonable. All in all I would say the food was really good for the price, I would return and recommend but maybe not if you wanted somewhere more intimate or up market for a special occasion – or if you don’t like waiting when it is very busy! It’s really good pub food with averagely good service. The ladies behind the bar are definitely more friendly, polite and welcoming than the waitresses!

This fantastic country pub restaurant has single storey, detached/separate rooms for B&B. I am currently working in the area so staying here during the week I. One of the brand new rooms - all rooms are fresh, very comfortable and excellent quality and value for money but the brand new room surpasses some London hotels stayed in. Lee and Norm - landlady and landlord are so welcoming - just feels like a home from home which to me as a lone female is a priority. The menu and quality of food is superb - a must visit and stay place. I'm here until at least Easter!!! And apart from being at home, wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

Stayed there for three nights in 2012 and had to return, even if just for an evening meal, this year. The food is simply wonderful. Amazing choice - the longest list of "specials" I have ever seen. You can tell it is all fresh and freshly cooked by the way you can change the order around and make a meal of your own. Large portions, well cooked, excellent value, and good real ales. The real treat, however, is the friendliest staff and it is full of locals who are also friendly, fun and remember you. It is nothing less that a well frequented licensed community centre! Warning: get used to this pub/restaurant and you may have to move house!

I have been here as a party of 20 and also as a couple and the service is excellent . The food is well prepared and presented and there is lots of it! Just enjoyed one of the best rib-eye steaks I've had anywhere served up with their delicious home made chips and fresh salad (£10.95).......wife had surf & turf which was excellent too.
