The best restaurants serving British food in East Midlands

We came here for a carvery meal which was good except for the amount of meat we were given which was tiny, half a slice of turkey and half a slice of beef, we had expected a bit more. We went to order a dessert but had run out of our choices so we didn't bother.

We have just returned from a 2 day night stay, and unfortunately we were quite disappointed, and we wouldn't recommend. Firstly when we booked, we specifically rang and asked if we could have the 1 four poster room. Were advised that was fine. We arrived to check in, the pub was chaos. Very, very busy, with no real attention. We were allocated our room, and told "sorry we can't give you the four poster room, because we have given it to someone else!!". Instead allocated Room 4, which essentially is the spare room above the garage! Really disappointed by this. We had an evening meal at the hotel on the Sunday. Service was poor, no wine list and cost was £107. We paid for this on the night. Breakfast very hit and miss.. 1st day was good, 2nd day numerous items missing. No juices, fruit or anything. On check out, we were told there was a bill of £107!! I have to prove through a receipt this was paid! Fortunately I had it. In summary this is a 5 bedroom pub with rooms. It's dated, lacks attention and rooms really differ. I don't believe we were treated very fairly, to be promised one thing, given another, nearly charged twice and poor service. We expected more but left really disappointed.

Fantastic roast dinner, all fresh, hot, and extremely tasty, beef was beautifully cooked and melted in the mouth with huge home-made yorkies.. new range of still ciders (bee-sting) was a great 👍

I came here with my partner and 2 young kids on a whim that they’d have space for a roast Sunday lunch! Found ourselves a comfortable bar table with plenty of room and ordered a roast dinner. Can I just say wow. For £50 to feed all 4 of us, with two roast dinners with all the trimmings plus drinks you cannot fault it!! The thing I like most is the staff genuinely like being here, they enjoy their colleagues, when another colleague starts a shift there’s a genuine joy in the greeting they receive and I know that’s niche but it is nice!! The staff are what makes this place but honestly a superb roast dinner, can’t fault it unless I’m being a total arsewipe in saying the sausage was a bit overdone but didn’t even know that little delight was also included so win win. Delightful. Thanks guys.

The service has declined since we last dined here. Little touches have disappeared. The wine is now plonked on the table and initial glass no longer poured. I had the lamb wellington, and was somewhat disappointed to receive 2 small cubes of meat. It was very nice though as was the rest of our meal.

Service wasn’t great. Made a reservation and got told to find a table anywhere! Waited 15 minutes for drinks, ridiculous! Hash browns were cold. No bacon and no eggs. Yorkshires were stale, would not recommend.

Pleasant welcome and greeting from staff Food ok but ROAST POTATOES hard and stale so inedible Meat small and badly carved!

Excellent food and service for dinner and breakfasts, the staff deserve a special mention especially Olivia and the other lady serving on Friday night, very personable and first class customer service skills. Best steak I’ve eaten for a long time, if we are ever back this way will definitely drop in again.

Our final visit to the Bonnie Prince before it closes and becomes a Hickory Smokehouse. Great service from the staff as always, especially April. So helpful and makes sure everything is 100% right and everyone is happy. Great to hear we will see her again at the Merlin in the future

Friendly staff, nice place to eat. Lovely home cooked food. The chips were the best I've had from anywhere in a long time. Will be going back

Hit and miss lunches . The garlic mushrooms were delicious but all the salad was was old and the salad leaves rotten , with a very unpleasant dressing . . The fish was either cooked in rancid oil or the tartar sauce was rancid . We told the front of house who said the chef insisted the salad was fresh but I am afraid that wasn’t the case . We will not be returning

River was the best server ever so polite and lovely to me and my boyfriend. they served us very quickly and was polite and very nice and chatty whilst doing so.

Manager always keeps it spotless and she and her staff are always friendly. No matter how busy it is the staff are always attentive. We love the pub

5 star service, 3 star food. Brilliant service at the White Post yesterday. They found us a table by the window without steps and with plenty of space for my elderly mum and her walker. The service could not have been better. The food was average - a dry crust on the pie, poor onion rings, uninspired burger, passable lasagne. But overall a pleasant experience because of the outstanding personable service. Thank you.

Came for dinner tonight, only 10 people eating so not at all busy. Two staff waiting on service was shocking the waitress was on her phone all the time had to ask for drink had to ask for sauce . Never was asked if the food was ok . Food was ok
