Had a meal here tonight before seeing Fairport Convention - EXCELLENT by the way - and it was lovely to be back again. Very clean and nice restaurant area. We were served by Ashley who was lovely. Thank you for tonight. There were plenty of choices and we had the burgers which were delicious. Cooked very nicely and still juicy. Really enjoyed the meal. And keep hold of Ashley, she is a credit to you!

Great village pub, excellent food, wonderful service, marvellous selection of beers/lagers/ciders. The Dragon and I rarely go anywhere else for a pub atmosphere and a relaxed environment. Since Emma & Phil saved the Ship from the doldrums, it has done nothing but flourish, survived the pandemic, and always delivered with great staff providing service with a smile. I’m absolutely astonished with a recent review on this platform.

A lovely village pub with a large grassy beer garden behind where you feel comfortable with dogs and kids, family and friends. All feels very safe in terms of hand sanitizer availability, one way system and social distancing. We love sitting in the beer garden which still gets the sun in the evening. Eaten most things now off the menu and not had a bad meal yet. The owners Phil & Emma go out of their way to help and accommodate which is fabulous. My partner has lots of allergies and also a stoma and from a diet perspective can only eat chicken. Although the menu changes he’s able to request a specific meal in advance and nothing is ever too much trouble. Great British pub food at a great price and service. Can’t really expect more from a village pub.

Ignore any reviews before February 2019 which is when new management arrived. Pub has been given a makeover which makes it look clean and inviting. Just eaten an excellent meal served by friendly and efficient staff who all showed they have a sense of humour. Great home cooked food and amazing home cooked crumble. (You must try it). This is my first visit for many years when I had a poor experience with a previous manager and the whole experience is unrecognisable from my previous visit. Pleasant and attentive staff with decent draft ale (TTL), rather spoiled by the noisy crowd hogging the bar space. The menu is unimaginative road-house fare and likely sourced from a supermarket. The prawns in the cocktail were in truth just shrimps and the salad leaves bordering on tough and tasteless, but the sweet potato fries were fine. The cod and chips was OK but was served on a cold plate; if I'd wanted to finish it then the chips would have been stone cold. By no means the worst place locally for a casual evening meal but I doubt we'll be returning.

We booked a Saturday evening meal here expecting it to be packed with people heading across the road to the sell-out concert at the village hall across the road. In fact when we arrived we were the only customers in the cold dining room. The bar was quite full with a really raucous hen party in one corner. We were dealt with by the manager Craig who after we had chosen our table and shivered a bit, did get the heating turned up for us. He took our drinks order and pointed out there was free starter on offer, with every 2 mains. As our eating companions didn't want a starter my partner and I shared the two vegetarian starters. The mushroom bruschetta and the olives with cheese were acceptable and the vegetarian stroganoff my partner ordered was deemed very tasty. However there was a lot more rice than stroganoff so much of the rice was left and she felt she could have managed more of the sauce. My slow cooked beef was interestingly seasoned, but was clearly not a particularly good piece of beef. Even slow cooking hadn't really rescued it.Whilst we were eating a couple more diners came in and were served and the raucous party continued in the adjacent bar. We finished our meal and waited expecting to be asked if we wanted dessert, instead it turned out we had been deserted. After 25 mins we finally realised that there was nobody serving in the restaurant and we went to the bar and they said they were so busy they couldn't do anything for us. It was getting close to the start time for the concert so we knocked on the kitchen door and advised the chef we would come back later and pay. On returning to the pub in the interval the manager revealed he had gone out to pick up a family member and his car had broken down and that was why we were abandoned. Discussion with locals at the Village Hall revealed that many of them too had abandoned The Old Ship since it changed hands, so it really is in danger of becoming a real Marie Celeste. It is a shame because the food wasn't bad, but the experience overall was poor, hence the 2 star review. It may be convenient for gigs in the Village Hall, but we will eat elsewhere in future.

On requesting a Gluten free, meat free Coeliac friendly Sunday lunch, the Chef speedily appeared and offered to prepare an off the menu Peppered Salmon on a bed of beautifully cooked fresh vegetables. Being a nice evening my partner and I picked up our friend decided to try for a meal first pub we tried was full drove into the village found the Old ship, had a few people inside quite a few outside, I inquired if there was space for three people, staff very accommodating, found us a space to sit, staff took the drinks order at the table, giving time to look at the menu, a good range of food, taken our orders, reasonable amount of time for our meals to arrive (20 minutes) food was hot and well cooked, the landlord introduced himself to our table, (Craig Russell and Partner Lorraine Feast) have only had the place for about seven weeks, informs me he has now got a good chef in who is very knowledgable with food, has lowered his prices as they were a little high prior to these taken over, I have been very pleased with how the staff and landlord have worked with the customers, nothing to much trouble. In my opinion this pub is in it's early stages of becoming a very reputable venue to visit.

Had an evening meal the other night as this is our local pub. Waitress very attentive & polite. Food was fairly good though the steak my friend had was a bit fatty & chewy in places. Good value for money doing 2 for 1. The bar side was busy due to a band playing which was nice to see but apart from that the place needs a complete re - furb. It looks old, worn, grubby & depressing. I used to enjoy going in there as a teen (18 of course!) back in the late nineties when they had a pool table but on the few occasions I've popped in for a drink in the evening it's been dead with just a few locals clinging to the bar,no atmosphere. I've heard the current owners are leaving & that new people are stepping in, so please do something with this what could be a lovely village pub & make a name for it like it used to have. Good luck to you.

We visited for the first time yesterday for a family meal. The pub's traditional with a separate area to eat. The Old Ship Inn doesn't have a website and their FB page doesn't show their menu (that I could see) so we weren't sure what to expect. My partner had fillet steak which he really enjoyed, I had the surf 'n' turf which was lovely and our son had steak and chips. It's worth noting that they don't have a children's menu, just smaller versions of the adult food which wasn't a problem for us and I was really pleased it meant he wasn't eating burger or pizza (although he spotted the venison burger with emmental and bacon after he'd ordered). Dessert was lovely as well. For me, although I'd happily visit again based on the food alone, what really made this place was the staff and especially the waitress. This is a village pub/restaurant and obviously has its locals - there was the feel of the good old times when everyone knew each other in the pub and had good times together which added to a lovely atmosphere. Families with young children might struggle to find them something to eat on the menu but I'd bet if you spoke to them they'd be able to accommodate you in some way - this place has the best customer service I've seen in a long time. To give a rough idea of costs - 2 pints of lager, 2 small glasses of red wine, 1 fillet steak, 1 rump steak (child serving) and 1 surf n turf, 3 desserts cost just under £70.

We had our Golden Wedding celebrations there and it was a wonderful occasion. There were quite a few years when we decided to give it a miss but recently this last year we decided to revisit and were so impressed we have been going every month for a meal as we like the atmosphere the staff and the food. I really like having lunch in this pub which I've been coming to a few times a year for about three year usually on a Saturday when it's quiet. It servess typical pub fayre -steak pie and chips and peas sort of thing, certainly not fine dining but neither does it pretend to be something it's not, and main courses cost £5.99. The staff are always friendly and it's in a good location with an independent book shop down the road. In the pub itself there are several shelves of books to dip into. It's also in a great location to have a stroll around the village and outlying field and by ways. There are a number of posters up advertising live folk music gigs held at the pub and other local venues..It's also dog-friendly.
