Old Post Office in Newark and Sherwood

Absolutely lovely roast dinner with tonnes of gravy. We were so chuffed to have almost a home cooked meal. Served by Josh who was very cheery, friendly and helpful - THANKYOU

Definitely a locals place, we were stared down upon entering like we were waking into the OK saloon. Quite uncomfortable really . However, cheap drinks and a massive venue. Tables were not clear but it was a Saturday afternoon. They serve Lilleys cider too.

Been here a few times for food. More recently the menu has changed along with the prices, and although it's not as good value as it was before it's still good value. I had the fish chips and chip shop style curry sauce which tasted really good and just like chip shop curry. You can also bring your dog in here which is an added bonus.

Came today as seen they were starting roast dinners so thought we’d give them a go. We wasn’t disappointed, great food and service. Would deffo recommend trying the roasts

This pub is just so unique, great food and drink and the team could not do enough for you. We used the beer garden which is lovely and service was quick.

The staff were very polite and welcoming, we ordered a cheese and bacon toasted sandwich with dirty fries and chives, while our expectations weren't high as it was a budget meal, I have to say we were disappointed. We waited over half an hour after ordering , the presentation was poor, the fries were at best luke warm, no chives, smothered in barbeque sauce, the sandwich had been fried in the bacon fat and was soggy and greasy

Just left here was meant to have a nice family Sunday meal food was not very nice I’ve heard of good reviews from here but was not the place for us to go to the manager was very rude which made us feel very uncomfortable would not return

Fantastic find just off the market square , we walked in through the beer garden expecting a small quirky pub but wow the place is enormous and laid out as a sports bar with sky TV pool table and darts boards with lighting rigs . Food was tasty and we were warned it would be a 30 minute wait which was fine . Definitely be going back soon.

A very nice (and large inside) dog friendly pub. We had a day out in Newark and came across this tardis of a place. It was excellent. A very relaxed atmosphere, clean and tidy and nice food too. Next time we're up in Newark, we'll be back

Absolutely awful the food is crusty dry and honestly looks microwaved. Had to show ID even tho I'm full of tattoos . Unbelievable! If there was a 0 star that would be my answer.

Sausage: 1.5 – These aren’t just your typical salty, cheap fry-up bangers, oh no. These are exceptionally diminutive, salty, cheap fry-up bangers. Lack of texture and taste, both were over-cooked on one side and under on the other. Which set a precedent for this plate… Other Ingredients: 2.0 - Single slice of cheap white toast, but that’s not the end of the world for me. Advertised as button mushrooms, the tinned, sliced fungi were somehow dry and watery at the same time. The pair of eggs had nicely runny yolks which mixed in agreeably with the beans, to then be slopped on the toast. Half a grilled tomato took up more room on the menu than the plate, and the bog standard 2p cash & carry HBs did exactly what it says on the catering-size sack. But the bacon…catastrophic. There were no discernible rashers in the unappetising looking dollop of pigginess, but when excavated there were four…bits. Which ranged in done-ness from nearly raw to almost charcoal – one of the pieces had both these of textures, one at each end, quite an achievement. Staff & Stuff: 2.5 - The Old Post Office is a big old barn of a place, one where you order food at the bar. Barman was polite and cheery. Although it was early there was quite the range of irritating noises in the air, crying kid, fruit machine bongs and toots, groups of lads giving it large my son – shouldn’t be surprised really as this is fundamentally a pub that serves food. But it got on my wick, sorry. Good cleanliness. VFM: 2.0 – £7.99 for the food, tea was £2.50 extra. Cheap, cheerless, but what would you expect from a massive pub chain? You often seethe term “hangover breakfast” used when the food is poor, but if I was feeling rough the next day I’d personally rather pay a few bob more for proper ingredients.

We visited with 4 friends, we all ordered food at the same time. 2 meals arrived and after they had been eaten another 2 arrived and eventually the final 2 arrive, I had the curry which was horrendous, 3 pieces of chicken in a small amount of sauce, with a lot of rice that had been either left in the microwave for too long or had been sat on a hot plate for ages. The rice was hard, the portion size was something like a child's meal, the other meals where rubbish, I'd have been better off going to Macdonald's. When queried the state and portion size of the food the staff just said that's the way it is. I won't be frequenting this place ever again.

Popped into this pub as we were on our way to some where else to eat. Just fancied a quick snack, waiting over 20 mins for loaded Dorrities, not worth the money at all. They were shocking in fact. Over priced for what they were.

Great place. Town centre pub with a very nice atmosphere, both for families and for sports fans, or just for a casual drink. Lots of tables, inside and out, pool table, plenty of big screens showing all the main sports fixtures, and lovely food. Not to mention a good selection of beers and fast, friendly service.

This review is not for the food or service but definitely the atmosphere. My teenage son worked here around college and constantly seemed to be at work. Very busy until he decided he did not want to participate in secret Santa. He was belittled and moaned at and yes he probably should have done it but then...all his shifts disappeared off the work app... all of them. He was even scheduled for xmas day so I decided not to do a family xmas dinner. Then xmas eve every shift vanished and after xmas he was offered 6 hours for the whole month. Prejudice behaviour.. maybe a word to acas is needed So after putting my review the pub said they have tried to contact him. Yes you have removed him from group chats for shifts and emailed him for a disciplinary after my review. Shocking behaviour... way to treat a teenager. Why does he need a disciplinary after not turning up for the 3 hour shift you gave him after removing all his other shifts. Let's me add that his brother worked there and you also removed his shifts for spite...all over one of them not wanting to do secret Santa. Managers should be sack for prejudice. In fact I think I now will contact acas

Never been here before but to me first impressions count the inside was lovely well lit and really clean, the guy who served me Chris was really good, polite welcoming and asked about allergies when I ordered food. Ordered breakfast this came piping hot and well presented not as expensive as I thought it would be thank you for a great start to my visit to Newark

What can I say we had breakfast coffee was good breakfast looked great (no mushrooms) service great but all I can say is later in the afternoon both felt terrible bad stomach pains and lots of rushing to toilet,would I recommend (No)

This has been our go-to eatery when visiting Newark in the past. We've always appreciated the variety on the menu and the value for money. It's been a couple of years since we last went, but our recent visit was disappointing; fewer options (much of which unavailable on the day of our visit) and prices definitely pushed upwards. If the food had been good then we wouldn't have minded, but what turned up - eventually as is was a long wait - was poorly cooked, not as advertised and/or a small portion. I appreciate that it's a tough time of year to balance high demand and shortage of deliveries, but if youre charging usual prices then I dont think it's unreasonable to expect the sane service. Sadly, despite what appeared to be some hard working staff, I don't think we'll be back.

Definitely cool Peroni served here tastes delicious. I cannot say that about mojito drinks. Even in Old Post Office one can get two glasses of a drink pretending mojito.

First things first. I do like The Old Post Office and yesterday when I went in there I noticed the refurb and new wall paper and lights, which are a nice touch. I also noticed the food prices had gone up substantially, maybe with the fact that Wetherspoons has now shut leaving nowhere else for punters to go or the price hike is to pay for the refurb I'm not sure, still I decided to eat hoping the food quality also increased in line with the inflated cost. Unfortunately the food quality / portion control is the same as always, now you just pay more for it. £18 for 2 very small subs with less than a handful of chips is just not good value for money I'm afraid. It's a nice pub to sit in and have a drink in, but as for eating I think next time I'll go to the chippy on the high street.

Went today for a Christmas meal of 16 people. Food was amazing no complaints, came out in good time and staff was very attentive. Also needed wheelchair access and high chair and all was provided. No faults thanks again 🙂

Normally the food was very nice as well as staff but on this occasion found a hair in my dinner which they wanted to refund me for a drink of coke staff all talking behind the bar not really doing anything felt like they didn't want to be there partner burger was very oily was not rested and will definitely not be returning 19.11.23

Called in for Supper, chose 3 small plates as starters from a varied selection, Pate, Chicken Goujons and Battered Prawns. Wife chose Festive Macoroni cheese with Pigs in blankets and shredded Turkey for her main but as it was a newly introduced menu an error occured and she got a standard Mac n cheese ! We brought this to the attention of the manager who swiftly remedied the mix up and gave my Wife a complimentary drink whilst she waited. 5 star service, food was good value, would recommend.

Sadly, it was a disappointment all round. I'll start by stating I was charged twice by their app. Hopefully my bank/vendor resolves it, it's not a problem but it was a bad, unwanted start to a terrible lunch. Ordered chicken chorizo croquettes, they looked like toes mid cremation. Pretty burnt, I imagine they taste fantastic. Also 3? For nearly £7? I've never done drugs but I feel I need to as to understand how you can charge that for such a small portion. Cheesy garlic bread aka the dryest flip flop in the desert. I know it can be hard to make the perfect g-bread but when you have to snap it and dust from said bread enters the breathable atmosphere, you've gotta reconsider the time you cook that. Mains wise, BBQ Mac burger, as well as a cheese and bacon burger. I know burgers well, I'm no Gordon Ramsay but I am fat (ok I'm not that fat) and love burgers. I've eaten thousands. My brother in Christ, that burger was rank. Like if I had to decide between that again and my own excrement (with garnish obviously) you know, it would be tough choice. My wife is like a Dyson, pure food vacuum, but picture is what she left. I'm as surprised as you, but genuinely one of the worst meats ever. What is going on there? I mentioned the double payment (ironic as I wish I didn't even pay once) which was dealt with as well as the pandemic. Too little, not enough ownership, 'dont know' - you know how it went. I really feel for the young lad, I stated I paid twice, plz fix, he said he'd ask the manager. Fair, he did, and he came back with 'its pending, it'll sort itself' And if it doesn't? 'dont know' You don't mess with people's money, I'm more annoyed the manager didn't come and say anything, just left it to this poor lad. I was more than nice because it's not his fault but management should deal with that, not the knife and fork delivery service guy. Sound like a Karen right now but if you mess with people's money when they have very little (not myself but can't imagine others on low incomes coping with that) then you'll have some super upset angry folk. All in all really disappointed with the visit. I know you stated you are low on staff that day and that my guys is fine. I don't mind waiting. I do however mind being served garbage. Hopefully some helpful words there. Edit - have reached out as requested - heard nothing.

Our first visit here today. So much space! Friendly service. Great prices. Food was good but only discovered after tucking in that we didn't actually get the food we ordered 😂 Will certainly visit again 🙂

Went to watch football . It was a lovely experience. Sophie behind the bar was absolutely lovely and speedy and helpful!

We have not eaten at the Old Post Office.....and will not be doing so in the future. From the management down this establishment is so poorly operated. A waiter in football shorts (!!!) so many uncleared tables and what was cleared was stacked at the end of the bar. All this after waiting an age to even get served. Come on, Stonegate, sort this out.

So pleased to have found this pub! We were visiting Newark with 4 dogs between us, and we wanted somewhere to watch the rugby. This place made us so welcome, it is very spacious, so the dogs were relaxed and well behaved! Great service, nice food, good beer. We'll definitely be returning. Thanks guys 😊

This is the second time weve been to a "it's your pub" franchise and I have to say your very skimpy on the portion size. My lasagna was the size of your salt shaker in a massive black bowl. The chips were freezing and the bar staff didn't bother bringing our drinks so my husband had to go and grab them. Yeah we won't be returning

Blooming awful food don’t do it regardless how desperate you are. I should have gone to the kebab house up the road. How can anywhere not be able to cook chips??? Chicken burger was awful and they tried to clear my mates plate before he’d even finished. Tables sticky too. Also took 10 mins to find ketchup.

Food was hot and tasty, and served quickly despite the pub being busy. The team were friendly and the pub being dog friendly was a bonus!

Bit off a mixed bag, really. We went for lunch, that's me, my wife and my parents who are in their eighties. The service from ordering to the food arriving on the table was very slow, although it's a big venue it wasn't overly crowded. I asked for a medium rare stake and got a well-done one. But as I was hungry, I ate it. My mum had fish and chips, and, at first sight, it looked nice and we all commented on the huge size of the fish. But when she attempted to cut into it. The batter was very hard. And despite looking huge, had a very small amount of fish inside. My mum mentioned this to the barmen, who, to be fair, sorted complimentary deserts for the whole table. The place is nice and clean with plenty of T V screens if you are a sports fan. And it boasts an impressive looking beer garden. The toilets are clean and not smelly. I always find this a bonus. They also have a radar toilet.

Ordered our food at the bar. People were ordering food after I placed my order. Receiving their food first. Had to ask twice where my order was. Even said when I placed my order we were catching a bus in one hour.

I recently booked a table for the England Women's football game and the the service was great from the initial phone call and on the actual day. They were very accommodating when I had to change the time. The pub was organised, clean, airy and very family orientated and the staff were lovely. Thank you 😊

I don’t know why there are so many harsh reviews of this place, huge pub lovely beer garden and good quality food for a low price. Plenty of seating with loads of screens for sport as well! Right in middle of Newark centre, vegetarian and a couple of GF options available and dog friendly! What more could you want, cheers Liam for your great service today!

Absolutely terrible. Food was awful, infact we go a refund. Such a shame but we certainly won't be eating in there again.

We had a good visit, Tuesday early teatime, there was no one in to be honest but ser ice was very quick and the food was great. I think this will become a local for us

Nice clean pub, food and service was good.

This large venue offers multiple seating options. With more TV’s than beer taps it’s a great place to catch a game. Pool tables down the back, family’s welcome. The food was excellent and the service friendly.

We've never been here before and wanted to try somewhere different. The choice and prices were really good and the food was delicious. We will be back!
