Stopped in for food with my family and all meals were excellent. I had Steak cooked to perfection and my elderly parents were impressed with their meals too (Burger and gammon). The owner was also very friendly and pleasant, coming over to check how things were. Couldn’t fault the service will definitely return

This used to be a lovely establishment but sadly the current owner has ran it into the ground. We attempted to dine here 2 weeks ago Awful experience which resulted in being served a chicken dish that was raw. This was easily rectified but the owner instead opted to hide in the kitchen and refused to engage with his customers and leave all the flack to two inexperienced young teenagers(which they clearly couldn’t handle)to deal with his incompetence. No discounted bill was offered or any attempt to put the experience right.

We came here on an impromptu visit in August 2024, it's been a while since we ate here (not a reflection on past visits) but we were pleasantly surprised after ordering our food by the quality and portion sizes. My parents are usually hard to impress, but they certainly left both full, and satisfied with the level of service we received Honestly this is a game changer for us, and will be having further family meals in future at the Inn on the Green. Thank you and keep up the great work!

Overnight in motorhome. Ate evening meal in the pub. Food was acceptable though there was a lengthy wait to be served although I did not think the pub was overly busy. Drinks were very expensive and our final bill had several mistakes, which were in their favour. Glad I checked. Peaceful night though along with two other motorhomes.

We had the most amazing sausage sandwich for lunch today. Sausages were very tasty. ‘ proper sausages’ . The chips were perfect - lovely fat chips. Tasty coleslaw and really nice salad. The meal was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. Will most definitely be going back

Had a stop over on our way to Norfolk show ground , felt right at home, lots sat outside as the sun was shining, great food had the lamb shank and the gaffer had beef stroganoff . Happydays

Bit of nostalgia as this is where me and my partner first met around a year ago. Came back for food this time and I was amazed. Great gluten free options. Food tasted amazing and of good quality and portion size. Definitely value for money. Such a lovely place to just unwind and enjoy good food and a drink. Will be back again soon. Thank you

Dog friendly but not on carpet areas

Brilliant place to stay and eat, we were made to feel very welcome, fantastic friendly and hardworking staff and the food is delicious, will definitely visit this place again, well worth a visit especially if you are a britstop user

Stopped here over night in our motor home as going to the Newark show ground. Car park full of motor homes but the staff very accommodating. The food was amazing recommend this place. Would defo come back again

Visited last night, table was booked for 6.30pm, it was quite busy because of quiz night but that was fine, when food still hadn't been served by 8pm I went to the bar to inquire only to be told that even though other diners who arrived after us were being served before us they don't do them in order, still had to wait a further 15 minutes, food finally arrived and the burgers were not very hot but didn't feel we could send them back because didn't want to wait any longer for another one, so very disappointed as it was a birthday meal for my daughter

Very loud with other drinkers. Wanted to bring elderley but won't bring again as was disgusted with the service. I was left astounded at the level of bad language in front of children. This was really close to the restaurant and the prices was way overpriced for the quality of food. Service was super slow. Would never recommend.

Went for lunch with my husband. Ordered chicken Chardonnay that didn’t show up when my husband’s food arrived. Had to go ask for it. Chicken arrived as bland as possible. Absolutely no seasoning on the chicken. I’ve never in my life had plainer blander chicken. There’s just no need for it. Your kitchen staff are seriously undertrained to be frying plain chicken. Basic kitchen experience would tell you that adding no flavour to chicken will produce chicken with no flavour. The crushed new potatoes were also simply just crushed new potatoes. No butter or salt or pepper. Tarragon sauce was weak, watery and bland. ‘Fresh seasonal veg’ was rock solid. I can’t rate it any lower honestly. Hospital food at restaurant prices.

Dropped in unannounced with the family for a Sunday carvery. Very friendly staff. Good carvery with generous meat portions and delicious veg selection. Would certainly visit again.

Food is standard pub grub. Building and garden need some work done. Both toilets broken.

A lovely quiet dog friendly pub, perfect for a post dog walk drink, however I wouldn't recommend the food. We ordered halloumi fries, chicken wings and salt and pepper squid and only the halloumi was edible sadly, the wings were in a thick unpleasant batter and the squid was so over cooked it was dark brown and too crunchy to eat. We did mention this to the young man working but he seemed overwhelmed, left most of it and at £5 a small plate it was a real waste of £15. Shame as otherwise a lovely pub!

We used to come here regularly, unfortunately this will be the last time. 3 very poor meals served to us. Over cooked food, plate full of salad . Overall very poor. Chef should be sacked.

Found this pub on search for sites app. We could park our motorhome for the night as we were half way on a long journey. A coal fire was cosy. We had a lovely meal & service was excellent. Thank you so much for your hospitality.

Food was good, unlike lots of other carveries it was uncrowded with no children running around , making it a relaxed placed to eat

Visited several times before. The food has usually been good but on this occasion the food was exceptionally good, very generous portions and beautifully cooked and presented. The menu is varied, considerably more choice than your usual pub/restaurant and offers some interesting dishes. Would have given 5 stars but the attention received left a bit to be desired. Not enough "patrols" by the waiting staff. We were waiting so long I ended up going to the bar to place our order. No table check either. In summary, well worth a visit, a very good restaurant, just a little bit more attention and it would be excellent.

We stayed over at the inn on the green in our Motorhome in there car park. The staff were friendly, although the kitchen was shut they still made us some chips which we enjoyed with a few drinks. They were so helpful and made us feel like nothing was an issue. Really beautiful little spot and perfect for a night stop over if you are touring in your Motorhome. Thank you so much ♥️

Each time we drive from friends in Newcastle back to Saffron Walden we stop here for a late lunch. The staff are lovely, the food is great value and the portions are both large and delicious. Highly recommended the ribs.

Went to try somewhere new with My Mum for a pre Christmas lunch. Although the pub was nice with open fire etc it's clearly catered for the Sunday Carvery crowd. We reserved seating and was placed in an area with no atmosphere and where the person behind the bar couldn't see us. Mum ordered the beef stroganoff. The beef was so tough she couldn't chew it and ended up leaving all the meat. So basically she had mushroom stroganoff. This was brought to the server's attention and she apologised. We still had to pay for it. I had a burger and my partner had steak both of which were fine. £75 for 3 meals and 3 drinks. Over complicated menu (which results in poor food quality) one person serving food and drinks and lack of atmosphere. This will be my first and last time visiting.

Top notch. The food was lovely and plentiful. The staff are polite and made us feel welcome. We stayed in our motorhome in the car park at the rear, nice flat car park. Would definitely recommend it, and if they'll have us, we will be back. Thank you.

Walked in on a Wednesday lunch time, staff polite, we ordered Steak & Ale pie & a Sea Good Selection - both meals well presented & tasted delicious, fresh & served promptly. Coffee was good. Will come back.

We pre booked a table for 20:30 Me and my Husband both had the 10oz steak and they were both cooked to perfection absolutely best steaks we’ve had! It was nice and warm inside with a nice quite atmosphere The service was quick and fast Definitely worth every penny! Couldn’t recommend anymore!

Absolutely awful service, booked a table on the phone for a table of 5 for 7.30 for my wife’s birthday, we got there at 7.30 only to be greeted by a bewildered woman almost looking shocked we had turned up, and then to be told they didn’t have a table for 5 because they had a walk in group of people who they gave our table to. Absolutely awful service without a care in the world she had messed up our booking and evening. We left without even a sorry or her giving a toss.

Absolutely disgusting service. Booked a table and on arrival (on time) we were told our table had just been given away to a walk in group so there was no where to seat us. Since when do walk-ins take precedence over booked tables?! the woman in charge looked like a rabbit in headlights with no clue what she was doing, no warm welcome or greeting. No apology. The waitress offered to turn a 4 seater table into a five by just dumping a seat on the end, love the idea of being cramped and not using my elbows whilst eating. Absolutely shocking shoddy service. Been here several times, seems to be different staff each time & the quality of the food & the way it is cooked has deteriorated. Lacking atmosphere.

Went for carvery lunch today, which was very enjoyable and the service here was excellent...I feel however the desert was rather a let down... ordered apple crumble which turned up with cold apple....and if I'm being honest was a cop out in it's production..... apple covered by broken biscuit is not the crumble I expected.... And the chocolate brownie came with coffee ice cream, not vanilla as advertised on the menu

Found this pub as a half way stop between Yorkshire and Norfolk. Food was lovely, some of us had sandwiches which were top notch, sausage and mash, and fish and chips, proper food and helpings. Reasonable prices.

Nipped in for a cheeky pint on the way home from golf. Menu looks good and reasonably priced, different food nights throughout the week, along with a quiz night.

To be honest, we ended up here because our chosen restaurant was booked up. Anyway, pleasantly surprised. OK, It's a group pub with an over extensive menu, but we ordered a couple of burgers, they were well presented and tasty, so quite happy. A reasonable Red and a pint of local ale made an enjoyable meal. And they're dog friendly too.

Wow food and service was fantastic. My husband is a chef and always finds something to moan about but we went here for tea tonight and everything was fantastic couldn't fault a thing x

Exceed expectations after looking at website. Friendly staff, clean and neat. Rump steak tasty lamb shank excellent and lasagne like best home made version. Desert and drinks as expected, value for money. We would return.

We loved the staff ,so friendly ,the food was gorgeous we both had the steak pie ,we don’t live local and were on route to an event and rushing ,they dealt with our food order quickly without compromising on the quality -well the worth the journey ,our village pub should eat here and get some tips -hope we get to boat again soon -thanks guys 👍

Nice place, good food but check your change. And beware the price they charge is same as on menu. Quick update. Food about same, new staff from last time and pleasant enough. If going for meal try to avoid a Sunday. Local folk bit loud in bar, not really place for kids. Sat probably best for family meal.

My husband booked a particular table in the window as a special lunch for my birthday today, 24th July 2023. This was booked a week ago and he was assured that we would have the table we asked for. We arrived at 1pm only to find that the table was occupied. They did confirm our table booking but asked us to pick somewhere else to sit. Very disappointed as I was really looking forward to it. We left and went elsewhere. We got the impression that the staff could not have cared less!

Friendly welcome- initially called to ask to book for dinner snd request we could park our campervan overnight which was readily agreed. They accept dogs in bar area where we were able to eat. Both chose the beef snd ale pie which was delicious- real tasty meat , extra gravy in a jug , good cooked veg with mash or real chips. Delicious and a hearty portion . Served morretti on tap - another bonus! Staff were friendly and chatty and had a relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend

Impromptu Sunday evening meal with hubby and friend. Extensive menu choice, which was good. Unfortunately the service and food was a little bit of a let down. Hubby ordered pork belly and chill (which he asked for to come together). I ordered the chicken tikka. To be honest; the chicken tikka lacked any sort of flavour, just tomatoes. Hubby’s chilli was exceptionally hot, and all he could taste was the heat of the spice. No real flavour whatsoever Oh and we waited over an hour to be served. :(.

I am a person that doesn't normally complain. The carvery meal was absolutely disgusting. The food was tasteless and cold. The meat was OK but all of the vegetables were horrible, some were too soft, some were too hard. The Yorkshire pudding was raw in the middle and I couldn't eat it. Nobody came to ask if we wanted a dessert or more drinks. We were just left unattended to. I was not charged for my dinner. We will not revisit this pub and we certainly won't recommend it. We travelled from Nottingham to meet up with our friends. What a waste of time!

What a lots of rubbish. The meat was fine. The vegetables were discussing, cold undercooked and overcooked. Generally not a tasty dinner. Travelled from Nottingham as this pub was recommended. So disappointed. Didn't get asked if we wanted a desert. Nobody seemed bothered. We were left just sitting there. Would not revisit would not recommend.

We called here as it's a 'pub stopover' as well as an hotel, huge car park hot food on cold plates !!(is it really beyond the wit of a chef to keep some plates on the bottom of the oven ?) Not impressed with the food either. The best part was the local car club meeting!!

There was a vintage car meeting when we arrived, which was nice. The food was delivered on cold plates, I got the impression that it had been sat on a counter top waiting for a waitress to come & get it, for more than a few minutes, as the food when it arrived was tepid at best the onion rings being the hottest. To say that this is a reasonable sized hotel I would have expected hot meals on hot plates, or maybe it's because we were in the car park, in a campervan & not paying the hotel fees & not eating in the restaurant, just the bar, which only had one cask ale in good condition.

Absolutely disgusting we asked for drink witch came with lipstick on the glasses me asked for new ones and all they did was tip them in to a new glass from the dirty one so disappointed with them they used to be so good here

Food and drink were both excellent, although the beer selection was a little thin. If you want a range of beers, better look elsewhere. Upon walking in, we seemed to be ignored until the barmaid finished her chat. No acknowledgement of us at all. There was nobody else being served so a little frosty for a reception. She was friendly, but it just felt like I was on a charm offensive to get any meaningful response from her. Customer service improvement would really add a lot, but maybe they do for the locals. As a visitor, I felt it took too much effort on my part to feel welcome.......UPDATE from 20/4/23.....Went back for a meal with my wife and things have gone downhill. Unfortunately, the previous response from the owner said that the miserable staff member who was more interested in her regulars seems to be still working there. FAO Management, she was somewhat mature with bottle blonde hair, and a fixed grimace. Maybe this will help you identify her. Further, We were charged GBP3 for a salad (some tomatoes and lettuce without any dressing) which the previous staff member had told us comes free with the order of the Thursday "Sizzler Special". Despite this, when we paid, we were told by this mature sourpuss that because it was ordered at 4.50pm, (but "delivered after 5pm") it did not qualify for the Thursday Special discount. Unfortunately, this information regarding times is not displayed anywhere on the menu, nor in the pub, rendering her excuse meaningless. Left with a real feeling of having been ripped off. Will be spending money elsewhere given this deliberately vague attitude to customer service in future. To be fair, the younger members of staff seemed much more interested in smiling and helping when they could. The older members might learn a thing or two from them.

Great pies, beer and atmosphere

With a table for 7 you would think the pub would want to take advantage of giving great customer service. In a nut shell ….. No!! The young gentleman who took our order was miserable as were the two female waitresses who would later bring out our food and drinks. Is all not well at this establishment?? Our family eat out a lot at various restaurants and we asked the gentleman if it was possible to have half rice, half chips on the curry, he replied he didn’t know. After the 3rd person ordered curry he said “no it’s not possible”. He hadn’t moved to ask anyone so quite how he knew this had us all bemused! The rest of us ordered our food. The burger, carbonara, ribs and stroganoff were reported to all be nice. However the naan bread that came with the curry was inedible. They were rock hard! In the whole time we ate our meal no one came to ask how our meal was. No one came to ask if we would like to order more drinks, the two waitresses were too busy chatting at the bar! A member of our party had to go to the bar to re-order drinks as it was quite clear we were not going to get waitress service- they were too busy stood at the bar chatting! And no it wasn’t busy. We waited 50 minutes after finishing our meal and nobody came to ask us if we wanted more drinks or indeed a pudding so we decided to go to the bar and ask for the bill. The two waitresses seemed irritated that we asked to pay separately, despite working it out for them. With lots of eating establishments to choose from offering a much better service, I really don’t think I will return. The rest of the party said they could smell a fishy smell that wasn’t nice??

Wow - what a find. Service was excellent/ staff were very friendly and professional. Loads of room and choice of areas to eat and drink. We ordered the pie and the hawaiian gammon. Both were served quickly and looked impressive on the plate. Prices were sensible. The food was delicious- really tasty. I highly recommend.

We are local and have eaten here quite a few times, but we most recently went on Mother’s Day and were really disappointed. The place was packed on arrival for our 12pm booking, and despite us having called days in advance to book a table, there was no record of our booking. Speaking to other diners in the queue for the carvery and we discovered the same had happened to two large tables who had also called to book. Despite many members of staff at the till area, we were left waiting by the door with no greeting or acknowledgment. It was about fifteen minutes before anyone came to see us, and there was no apology for the wait. We were taken to our table and did order drinks straight away but no one gave us a menu. We knew we wanted carvery so asked for the tickets for those instead and then because the queue was so big we didn’t get any good until 1pm - an hour after we arrived. The meat and roast potatoes were lovely but the broccoli and cauliflower were undercooked. The staff didn’t seem to have ownership of any set areas leading to really poor service. After we finished our carvery we sat around waiting for plates to be cleared and a dessert menu for ages but no one came to serve us; I had to catch the eye of a waiter before we were given any attention. It was about 1:45 before we ordered dessert and given we were supposed to vacate our table at 2pm we weren’t given much time to eat. We ordered two desserts and one dessert was sent to the wrong table. Not a problem but the second dessert didn’t arrive until my partner had already finished. And when the second arrived it came with the other dessert we’d already been given. No one came to ask us if we wanted the bill or more drinks etc so we went to the till ourselves to pay and they didn’t even have a full record of what we ordered and asked if we’d already paid some of the bill? Appreciate it was much busier yesterday than it normally is but the day was really badly organised and there didn’t seem to be any sort of plan on what the staff would be doing.

We enjoyed a lovely, carvery, lunch here today. The food portions were very generous with a good range of vegetables. The bar staff were very polite and helpful and the carvery chef very professional and courteous. An enjoyable, family meal to celebrate Mother’s Day.

I came across this gem purely by chance after a Google search and it didn't disappoint. A welcoming country pub/restaurant with a varied menu and a good selection and the bar. Fair prices and friendly staff made were the icing on the cake. This place has a good sized carpark and patio seating area.

Very friendly atmosphere at this pub my party chose to have a drink at the bar area first and viewed the menu the staff were very friendly with choose our food and choose a seat further into the pub I personally choose the steak and ribs and really enjoyed it a big portion as you can see and I belive it was around £15/18. The rest of the party had chicken and ribs the lasagne, which came with a huge mountain of chips, scampi and chips the rest of my party all enjoyed their food I would eat here again and recommend

We stumbled across The Inn on the Green en route from Inverness to Folkestone. We were welcomed by Mel along with our two spaniels and were even able to stay overnight in the huge car park in our Motorhome. We had great food and lovely service. Thank you 😁

The lovely Mel looked after us very well during our visit on a chilly wet Tuesday night. Cold beer and fresh hot food were the order of the day. My gammon steak was excellent as was the beef stroganoff my partner chose. Another big plus for us was the pub is dog friendly. Milo & Monty enjoyed their bowl of water and free biscuit! Definitely worth a visit.

Went for a meal with my wife. Order ws taken wrong which no one came to ask if everything was alright so never put right. Waited over one hour for someone to so we could order from the sweet menu, which we gave up on . From our table we could see the so called staff just laughing and joking having a good time totaly not interested in doing anything. Then when we had had enough and decided to leave we wrere charged for things we never had. The sad thing is that the food we did have was good. Its a pity the same cn not be said about our experience and the staff !!!!! Will never be going again !!!!!

Stumbled across this gem on our way back from visiting our parents in Spilsby. Will absolutely be returning and recommending. Amazing home cooked food, great prices and a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Would give more stars if I could.

Wish they had told me they were full booked, instead of taking my booking for a table of 6, as had to wait nearly 2hrs for our meal.

05.11.22 The restaurant & bar are clean & nicely decorated. Food was lovely & fresh. The portion size are generous. The servers are all friendly & polite. The service was slow, we waited a while to be served even though it wasn't busy in the restaurant.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch, the food was lovely; the chef was really nice; Katie, the supervisor listened and dealt with any issues. The serving staff were slapdash, my coffee ended up in the saucer and was not dealt with by the waitress, the lunch on the menu was £11.95 but the bill to collect our carvery was £12.95! The staff waiting table did not deal with our enquiry and the overall service was poor. Having said all that, the place itself was really nice and we will probably return, hopefully the staff will have been trained better.

We were a party of 4. Nice place. Nice atmosphere. Had one of the nicest and well cooked Sunday carveries for a long time. Thank you Raj for great food. You’re an asset. Sadly there are some points that need addressing which I spoke to the supervisor about. I don’t know if some of the waiting staff were new but they need some training in ability and attitude. We ordered some coffees and the girl serving spilt one and forgot the milk on the other. When confronted she just shrugged her shoulders and walked off saying that she was only delivering and it wasn’t her job. Wrong! I wasn’t impressed. Young man clearing tables didn’t wipe the table leaving the residue from the previous meal for the next guests. Not impressed at the lack of attention to detail. Also we had to question the meal prices. The menu said £11.95 per meal and we were charged 12.95. When confronted they said we were charged wrong but it doesn’t leave a good impression. On the whole we enjoyed ourselves but we had to constantly check things. All things taken into account we’d go back there.
