Lexi was very friendly and attentive. Food was OK. My daughter's sausage and mash was cold and didn't taste great.

We booked a table and it was all ready for us when we came in. Staff where friendly and helpful and the food wasn't bad at all. Overall an enjoyable experience was had by myself and the two other people with me.

Our meals arrived quickly and were hot and tasty.Would have liked a little more bbq sauce on the starter but still tasty

Lexi was our waitress and was absolutely fantastic, we only pop in now and again but the service is always excellent and the food was too match, well priced. Much more upmarket eateries could learn a lesson from how this place is run. Nice atmosphere as well.

Was great totally full, lexi was the best host.

Dropped in on the off-chance they had a table free as we had a long journey ahead and hadn't planned dinner! We were met at the door by a delightful young lady who confirmed they had availability and showed us to our table. When my husband turned to go to the bar the waitress asked him to sit down and told us she'd fetch our drinks. Food was delicious, piping hot and plentiful. The staff, from the waitresses to the bar staff were absolutely brilliant and couldn't do enough for us and, we noticed, for any of the guests on the premises. The atmosphere was great, lots of laughter and certainly some banter between the bar staff and customers. Absolutely brilliant night for us and somewhere we will most definitely come again. Would highly recommend this establishment.

Ideally situated to meet up with friends or for business just off the A1. Pleasantly decorated and clean pub, friendly staff with table service most times and in my opinion good value for money for the quality of food I expect from a table number pub.

Dropped in after a long day at work and was welcomed with open arms. Out of Guinness, but that's not the staff's fault, so I chose something else. A good pint it was..... Can't fault the food for the establishment this is. It's not a Michelin starred restaurant, so if that's what you're looking for, drive on by and give the staff a break and save everyone's time. Some things are beyond people's control. McDonald's is never far away either, but you'll never get the attention to detail or care for your experience that was provided to me on this evening. Hungry and in need of a rest? You'll get the same level of food as expected from a chain pub. 15% of people will complain about it, but their dog would eat it..... The same 15 % of people that complain about it would feed their home cooking, and their dog would probably leave it. Overall, don't expect gourmet food, and if something you wanted isn't available, then pick something else from the extensive menu. If you weren't happy with the food you probably shouldn't have skimped and would've been better suited to a restaurant where booking a week in advance is advisable. Alternatively, accept this establishment as it is.... Quick, no booking required, fuss free and reasonably priced. Finally....... Big shout out to Amy B and Kacey. Couldn't do enough between them and made the end of a long day a more than pleasant experience. 10 out of 10 on my fingerbowl dipping (tm) scale 🤘

A wonderful meal out with my husband, with some amazing friendly and welcoming staff. A big thank you to Kaitlin who was only on her second shift but was a real asset to the restaurant team and was even concerned she had messed up when she hadn't. Also a big thank you to Jodie for her unwavering hospitality whilst we were at The Tawny Owl and as we were leaving. Would highly recommend and will definately be back.

Food was awful, couldn't eat the steak it was so tough!!!!!! With family group so didn't complain about the food as I had already had to send back cola twice because it was as flat as a pancake!! Staff just said checked everything so nothing they could do, very helpful.

Food 5stars I had a starter the onion bhajis with mint sauce, not normally a fan but these are fantastic. For main I had the American style hotdog with katsu chicken loaded fries, this is ridiculously amazing. Then dessert the dark chocolate and mint tart was to die for. Staff served us promptly and very friendly, good banter which I love, this place is totally one of my favourite places to eat. Would totally recommend.

Came in for a roast dinner was very nice. Was busy but when food came out it was still hot. Waitresses Lucy was very helpful and friendly. Will come back.

We arrived at booked time 2.30 on Sunday and we're very disappointed to be told Roasts had all gone. We were 1.5 hours into a 4 hour drive home from York and had booked based on reviews. I guess our fault for not checking if roast was all day. We ordered alternati es and the food was lovely so no complaints. Would certainly visit again if was in the area.

We attended as a party of 7, the table we were sat at had a strong draft of cold air from under the bench seat. We asked if there was anything that could be done, to be told that they had no control over the vent and also had no where else to move us to so would have to put up with it. The people sat on the bench seat had to try and cover the draft with their jackets as it was that strong. When the food arrived it was ok, the steak was mainly fat however this was rectified by Sam who waited our table. Although the replacement did take a while to arrive. The desserts took a long time to arrive and weren’t great, I wouldn’t recommend. Service from Sam was great however overall experience wasn’t. We are all freezing cold when we left and for the price of the food it was not great value for money.

Had a great time out with the family, very friendly staff, we had Rubie as our waitress she was amazing with service and understanding, would definitely recommend going and I hope you get Rubie as your waitress and have an amazing experience like we did

Absolutely love this place- it’s my new favourite place to eat when I visit Newark. The food is always so tasty, hot and fresh. The staff are pleasant, helpful and always look very smart. The atmosphere there is also pleasant and the toilets are well looked after. Would recommend here to anyone.

Excellent customer service despite only 2 staff to serve food and drink they did brilliantly, unfortunately there's always one, he was on the next table complaining that their plates weren't taken away quickly enough before they left! Even though he knew there's only 2 staff. If you've finished your food either just leave or if you want to stay and chat over an empty table then move to an empty table!! Food was very nice quality.

We arrived around 10 minutes after my parents - who had been taken to the reserved table. However had not been offered the opportunity to order drinks by the server. We joined the table and it was a further ten minutes before we were able to call over a server to take our order. Given the delay in ordering drinks, we hurriedly ordered food and I can catagorically say all was ordered correctly and the server wrote them down on a pad which she transferred to a EPOS machine. The server did not really know what drinks were available so we chose to buy at the bar. We were not advised on delays / wait for food - it was 40 Minutes before five meal arrived, three of which had a a problem. The persion I assume was in charge did remove one item from the bill as a gesture but we had planned to stay another hour or so for drinks and desserts but didn't.

What an AMAZING pub this is with delicious food and fantastic customer service. Want to say a huge thank you to Kaylee for being so welcoming and lovely and also to Darcy and Jodie for the brilliant service. Will 100% be back and so will my doggo who loved all the attention and treats. Amazing pub and will be recommending to family and friends.

Decided to eat at tawny owl on our way back from visiting family and what a great experience it was, the food was great and so was the service, a young woman named Lucy was so attentive to our needs and was great with the kids. Would highly recommend

Carvery meals were all lukewarm and had to be sent back to heat them up. The children’s nuggets were dry and inedible. The table position was awkward and one side of the table was blinded by sunshine and there were no furnishings to block it out (no blind or curtains). Staff were lovely.

Once again the Tawny Owl gave us a great morning of fun with breakfast with Santa. Excellent value for money, all the staff were amazing as always. We do this event every year and it’s always a great morning. The kids love it, the breakfast is really nice. Thank you to all the team for making the morning so much fun.

Unfortunately we left feeling very let down. The meal was the start of the festivities but was very much an anti climax. We were left waiting some time for our food and it came already cold, one of us had requested cheese be removed from burger due allergy but found 2 other ingredients had also been removed too, this with the cold food was a downer. Staff did remove the price of the burger from the bill but was still rubbish. I also was very surprised to find a glass of wine to be nearly £9.... London prices in Newark... really? I'm afraid although the Tawney owl is my local we will be thinking twice before going again...

We came to the Santa paws and it was amazing- we all loved it. Staff and Santa have been amazing and all the dogs behaved impeccably. It was our grandson’s birthday and they even provided a cake and everyone sang happy birthday.- he loved it 🥰 We had the most fabulous time and we will be back 😘

Four of us arrived, alerted to the a 45 minute wait on food, that was OK, yeah upturned bowl of chips at the foot of my chair, which I removed before sitting down. Advise staff after 50 mins, where was our food, just over the hour, and check again on food arrived cold, sent mine back, and daughter ate hers cold and as had prior arrangement. Desert hot and nice. Spent £105.00 on this food, long time since I've been and will not be in a rush to go again.

Slow food, held up after a starter. Fries were cremated, burgers had no sauce in them. Disappointed.

I've only been here twice with my best friend and it's been excellent service both times. The food is always hot and tasty and the service is always quick and polite. I definitely recommend coming here.

We went out for a family dinner, it was amazing, the food was flavourful and enjoyable definitely recommend to go, our waitress Rubie was amazing too, she was quick at service and very kind and thoughtful, I hope next time I go we get to have you as our waitress again because you were spot on with your work.

We came in on sunday and even though there was technical difficulties the staff remained professional! The young lady i think rubie, who was bringing our food out to us was very sweet and kept making sure we had everything we needed!

Visiting in the area and having eaten here a few years ago called in tonight on speck and got a table straight away - Service provided by Lucy was excellent as was the food. A great place for all - Couples or families.....

Long wait for terrible food, expensive beer. Ordered sirloin steak when it eventually arrived it was more than half rock solid sinew and the whole plate of food barely warm, definitely avoid this place. At nearly £7 a pint I thought I was in London let alone the delights of Newark…

Had a great evening celebrating my daughter’s 11th birthday. Kaitlin who was serving our table all evening was fantastic got us everything we needed and was very polite and engaging and made a fuss of our birthday girl.

We came here for the first time this evening after being recommended by a work colleague. The food was fantastic, service was great and easy parking with electric vehicle charging facilities.

Went for my daughter’s birthday was a nice meal out but overpriced in our opinion for the actual quality of the food served, staff were friendly and welcoming but slow to clear plates and glasses. Nice relaxed atmosphere though and everyone had a smile on their face throughout and we had a good time

I don't understand all of the reviews. We have been twice and both times it seemed a pointless pub to go to. The food was flavourless and not very warm and the portion sizes were small. It's definitely not good value for what you get. Wouldn't go back

Great service all round and we were treated professionally by Darcy and Nathan. Nothing was too much bother for them and were warm and welcoming.

Food was OK, all plates cleared up. Service was very good, we asked for some extra gravey no troubles. We came as 2 families so they kept the bills separate but have us the discount as a table thanks. Darcie was great and ensured we had a nice time

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Tawny Owl is by far our favorite pub in the area! We pop in regularly, and every time we’re greeted with a warm welcome from Kaylee, the General Manager, and Sam, the Manager. They’ve created such a friendly, relaxed atmosphere that we always feel right at home. We don’t usually go for the food, but the menu looks fantastic, and we can see how much effort goes into everything they do here. It’s a true family-friendly spot, and the staff always go out of their way to make sure everyone has a great time, including the kids! If you’re looking for a cozy, welcoming pub with top-notch service, The Tawny Owl is the place to be. It’s a true gem in our community, thanks to the wonderful team led by Kaylee. Highly recommended!

A nice ambience and good food. The restaurant was comfortable and not too noisy. The server was helpful and friendly. The food was good but the The Ultimate Spicy Beef Burger was not very spicy and needed more Jalapeños. The 30% discount was much appreaciated to help with the costs.

Food was cold, staff spent more time in the back which was a nightmare when you have to order from the gluten free menu! They need to expand on the gluten free menu as you limit people so much. It's not their fault they have allergies!
